Extra Hard Drive case for M90z?

Hi,
I'd like to know if/where I can buy an extra Hard Drive case (the blue caddy holding the HD) for M90z.  It would come in handy for quickly switching multiple HDs I have.  A quick search on Google says that the part number may be 3QQU8HFLV00, but I didn't see any seller as trustworthy.
Thanks,

Hi, you need to know if the drive is IDE/ATA/PATA, or SATA, and Firewire is far better than USB...

  • Hard Drive Case/Enclosure for dead G4

Hi everyone, I am now joining the ranks of owners of a seemingly dead G4 who hears the fan of death, seeing the rotating beachvolleyball and then- NOTHING. FREEZE.
So, which hard drive case would be workable? (G4, 15 inch ibook) I am looking for a ata firewire/usb case. What's out there and works? (without braking the bank, yet again)
Ideas? I basically would like to pull off the data and if necessary reuse the uncompromised hard drive.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
OWC sells good enclosures (their own brand). You need one for a 2.5" drive.

  • Does it support 2 (one extra) Hard drives? "GT70 2OD-831XBE"

    Hi there,
So I found this laptop that I really want. Why? Because 4700MQ and GTX 780M...
BUT it has only one hard drive (7200rpm 1TB), and I would love add my 256GB SSD to it.
Question is.. Can I? Is there room for one? Does it support an extra hard drive? I have seen "GT70 2OD" models vary from 1 to 3 hard drives..
I have to ask it here, on this forum because the googles doesn't know the model number "GT70 2OD-831XBE". The BE stands for Belgium and means it has an Azerty keyboard (yes sadly enough I need it, I live there). Oh btw this one doesn't have an operating system pre-installed. I have no clue, but maybe that's what the "X" stands for?
You can check out the website for the specs (written in dutch, but I think you can manage).
If you add 'www' than this is the link: laptopshop.be/product/410408/category-180904-msi-laptops/msi-gt70-2od-831xbe-azerty.html#product_specifications
I really hope you guys can help me.
    Thanks.

Thank you very much for your response darkhawk.
So either way I will always be able to fit a 2nd hard drive in there?
Because there is only one hard drive in there, which means there is a free bay physically (wether it is for SATA or SuperRaid 2).
Are there GT70 models that don't have 2 bays? (This was my initial question, I now notice it was confusing.)
And yeah if there is a 2nd slot it probably won't be SuperRaid 2 (which is good in my case ).
This will be my first MSI laptop so I'm very new to the brand, the used hardware and model numbers.
    Thank's again!
    A GT70 is a GT70 is a GT70.
Basically, no matter what GT70 (as of writing this...keep that in mind) it is, it will have 2 x 2.5" bays. In some cases, 1 bay will be taken up by a SuperRaid/SuperRaid 2 (older models like my 0NE came with SuperRaid, newer 2OE's and such come with SuperRaid 2) card, in others it will be an open/free slot.
As I said, it will have 2 bays no matter what. I'm just not sure if the 2nd bay will be SATA or SuperRaid. Most likely it will be SATA, but I can't say with 100% certainty.

  • Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Can i add an extra hard drive to my laptop?

I have a HP Pavilion g7-1219wm Notebook PC and i was wondering if there was room for an extra hard drive ? I'm thinking about maybe getting a 1 TB hard drive and run Win 8 on it and run Win 7 on the hard drive thats in it now because some of my apps won't work with Win 8. Thanks

No it only takes one hard drive:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnYjCML3gv8
You can dual boot Windows 8 and Windows 7 on one hard drive, however. Microsoft has made it harder than in past versions of Windows, but it can be done:

Well first you have to figure out what is wrong with the machine and solve that problem first.
Your post is very vague on what occured, and there are many types of "crashes" it really depends upon what see on the screen and what the hardware does, we can't see it to tell you, so you have to tell us.
I suggest you run through these user tips and provide more information about your hardware.

If this is going way over your head, there are local PC/Mac techs that will assist you for a fee, Apple only does hardware repairs and is advised to use them if you discover it is, especially if under warranty/AppleCare.
Hard drive and RAM upgrades can be handled yourself or by a outside tech in many older models of Mac, but don't expect Apple to cover the new parts.

  • Fitting an extra hard drive to the Pavilion p6-2033de

I would very much like to fit an extra hard drive to this machine (SSD).  Can you tell me what I need to do ?  There does not appear to be an extra bay for another hard drive although there is certainly a spare SATA connector on the motherboard and a spare power connector.  Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

    Hi,
Your PC is not provisioned for multiple hard drives.
If you don't use your optical drive then remove it and use a 5.25" to 2.5" adapter.  You can always obtain an external adapter or enclosure for the optical drive.
Use a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter and fasten the SSD to the bottom of the PC.
This Dual 3.5" HD stacking bracket along with a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter might work.
You might be able to bolt the SSD to the area just above the hard drive. Try aligning the SSD from inside the fame to some of the existing holes.  This thread may give you some ideas.

  • Pulling hard drive and installing in hard drive case

My 5-year old 700 MHz CRT iMac has died. I'm mulling over the alternatives, from dumping it, to fixing it, to replacing it. For one piece of the puzzle I need more information, and I'm hoping someone here can help.
As I understand it, I can pull the hard drive (the problem is definitely not the hd) and put it in a hard drive case thus converting it to an external USB or firewire drive for another computer (I'm sending this from a G5 iMac). Do I have that right? And if I do that will the data on the drive still be accessable - in other words, can I transfer the data from the old drive to the new computer? In case you haven't figured this out yet, it's data that was not backed up.
Assuming that I have the basic idea right, is there anything else I need to know? I'm guessing that when I pull the drive I'll be able to identify exactly what kind of case to get. Are there recommended brands or are they all pretty much the same. Recommended retailers?
    Thanks for the help.
iMac 700 MHz (CRT)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You can certainly do that. The iMac has standard IDE/ATA HD, so you can get almost any enclosure, put it in there, and then recover your data. It will be completely readable. In fact, since it was an internal drive with all the system data on it, you could even boot your G5 iMac from an external FireWire drive - assuming that it is OS X on the G3 iMac.
I like the Mercury Elite Pro enclosures from OWC found HERE. I have had one for the last few years and it has performed very well. One thing that you should look for when buying an enclosure if make sure it has the Oxford 911 chipset and not the more common - and less expensive - Prolific chipset. The Oxford is more compatible with more systems. Some users have not been able to get the Prolific chipset to work while some have, but not been able to boot their Macs with it. Avoid the hassle and get the better Oxford chipset.

  • Are there certain external Hard Drive cases that aren't compatible with Mac

I have a new 160gb Hitachi hard drive and connected it to a Vantec NexStar usb 2.0 hard drive case (borrowed from a friend).
Disk Utility sees the external disk...however, whenever I try to Erase or Partition, the Disk Utility hangs. In Activity Monitor, it shows up as "not responding". I even left it over night to see if it recovers itself but no luck. I've tried the MacOS Extended (journaled), MacOS Extended, and MS-DOS types.
I'm wondering if this case is incompatible with Macs? I would prefer a case that has firewire though...so I might just buy a new case to try?
Has anyone run into something similiar?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the idea...not sure why I didn't try that.
My new iMac recognized the drive immediately and asked if I wanted to initialize it. Took about 2 minutes. When I connected it to my MBP, it saw it right away...
I'm still not sure why the MBP couldn't initialize the drive when I tried...
Oh well, important thing is..it's working now..and I've backed up my iTunes and iPhoto libraries.
    Thanks again!

  • Hard drive setup for CS5.5

    Okay, finished a new build:
    Intel Core i7 2600K processor
    Asus P8Z68-V motherboard
    Corsair 16 GB memory
    Zotac GTX560 video card
OCZtech 60 GB SSD boot drive
    2x Hitachi 1.5 TB 7200 hard drives
    LG blu-ray burner
So the question is about the hard drive setup.  Boot drive is pretty basic, with Windows 7 pro, CS5.5, firefox, and MS Office about the only things installed.  So, two questions:
    1. How do I change the boot drive so that things like "My Documents" is put on the D: or E: drive rather than the C boot drive?  Is it a Windows thing or do changes need to be made within Office or Firefox?
    2. How do I set up the two extra hard drives for Premier?  The IT guy combined the two drives into one partition, which kindof defeats the point of having two drives, right?  So we need to split those back out so there's a D & E drive and then I designate within Premier that the media cache and previews goes on one, and the storage & media & projects goes on the other?  Do I need to do that within all the separate programs -- After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier, etc. -- or can it be done all at once?
    Thanks for any help!

    1. Windows.
    2. Those disks are in raid0 and appear as a single disk, so all you need is to have the IT guy add another two disks in a similar raid0 and to add an external disk for your backups.

  • Cannot rejoin partition in extra hard drive

I have a 3TB SATA hard drive that I just created a partion upon in order to install windows (with bootcamp).
This is an extra hard drive and does not carry the operating system OSX 10.8.4.
    I alloted 1TB for windows.
I was using bootcamp and all was going lovely when I recieved an error message that windows couldnt be installed.
So, I decided I would start over again and rejoin that partition and leave windows off of my computer for now.
But, here lies my problem, I can rejoin that 1tb and that 2tb back together. There are no options.
    Help?
I know you'll probably need more info. Just ask and ye shall recieve.

There are two issues, lack of support by Disk Utility in 10.8.4 for 2.2TB and larger, but new support in Boot Camp Assistant for 3TB drives.
The likely reason though that Windows can't be installed is you have to remove all other drives during install / You need to Windows to format and use part of the drive.
Normally BCA will want to use the whole drive if there is no Mac system on it. Windows would do better if it was the only OS using the drive and format just 1TB for instance and use the rest of the drive for other purposes so Windows is within the 2.2TB region.

There are only 2 SATA slots. One is for the hard drive and the other for an optical drive (DVD/CD-ROM..). There are also 2 PATA/IDE slots for PATA devices. There is also a PCIe x1 slot so you can use this slot to get this: http://www.span.com/product/SATA-3Gb-SATA2-PCIE1x21-PCI-Express-x1-Card-1x-SATA,-1x-5x-eSATA-support...
which is a PCIe x1 SATA card which gives you another SATA slot for a SATA device if the slot is still empty.

  • Mac Pro, Creative Suites and extra hard drive query

I am seriously looking at purchasing a 15" Mac Pro this year - I know what specs I want, but I am curious as to what Mac users do re the extra hard drives? I am used to having a second hard drive on my PC for scratch discs for the Creative Suites including CS4. What do Mac users use for extra scratch discs? Do you use a removable drive? Apple tells me that I can't have any second hard drive in the Mac Pro or iMac, hence my query. (I will also be attaching my Wacom Cintiq 21UX to it as well.) Thank you.

Thank you Steve - however I use the scratch disc in both Illustrator and Photoshop and Premiere, hence it becomes a more general question.
In moving to a Mac I am trying to understand whether the drives work differently, or can you partition the main drive on a Mac and use those partitions for scratch discs?
