Extra picture folders after a restore in PSE-O v11

I have an HP laptop with all of my pics and back ups on an EHD.  The EHD recently died but I have additional copies of all my pics on other EHD and my laptop.  I have a backup of the organizer from March 2014 on another EHD.  I just tried to restore the organizer to a new EHD and it looks like everything is now connected but now I have all of these additional picture folders on my EHD?  The folder system doesn't show my original pictures folder that is on the new EHD.  What did I do?  and do I need to correct something?

Never mind  I did it again with the "keep original folder structure" ticked.  All is good:)

  • Wrong Drive Letter After Using Restore Command PSE 9

I know this is an old subject, but it has a twist that I can't relate to other posts. So I'm posting a the question again. I have a client who has all of her pictures stored on an external Drive J, lets say. She also has a full backup using the PSE 9 Backup command that she stored a a second external Drive H. Drive J failed. She bought a new external Drive is named N, lets say.
At this point she uses the PSE 9 Restore command, which runs without errors. The problem is that all of her 30,000 images are disconnected. The Organizer thinks they are still on Drive J (her broken drive). and not on Drive N, the new drive.
I have only communicated with her via email and have not seen what exactly she is seeing. However, from what I can tell, she has been using the PSE 9 Backup/Restore command correctly.
I even simulated her process on PSE 9 and it worked fine.
John R. Ellis has published a lot of hints etc regarding problems for PSE 8 and earlier, and they keep coming up as I search.
Does anyone here have any idea what went wrong and obviously more importantly, how to get the PSE Catalog working again?
    TIA

You may need to let the software decide on the file structure.
    File à Restore
Select Hard Drive/Other Volume and click the adjoining browse button
Navigate to the folder on your external hdd, select the back up (tly) file and click open.
Go to specify Destination <NONE> and click the adjoining browse button.
I recommend you navigate to Pictures or My Pictures
When you see the message “the restore was successful” you will probably see a flashing message (bottom left in Organizer) which says opening catalog.
You will also get a message: The catalog named ……….psa could not be found. Please open or create a different catalog - click OK.
In the catalog dialog click New
If you see a message saying you have chosen the original file structure and new folders may need to be created - click Yes.

  • Cleaning up iPhoto folders after CrashPlan restore

Came home Friday to find one of my Seagate HDD in my Mac Pro failed.  This volume held my iPhoto Library.  I am currently using CrashPlan to restore the volume.  While CrashPlan gives you the latest of each file I am getting files from iPhoto 10, 9, 8, 7, etc.  Anyway to remove all of the old depricated files/folders and keep just the ones required for iPhoto 11?  I would even consider exporting photos and re-importing them if there was a way to maintain the meta-data.
    Thanks for any suggestion.
    Jim

If you can not recover the iPhoto library intact as a single package then you will have to start over using teh originals photos and importing into a new iPhoto library
It is no possible to recreate an iPhoto library - it must be kept intact as a single entity

  • Extra Administrator folders after turning on FileVault

I turned on FileVault a little while back and I just noticed there are some extra folders in my Users folder...Besides administrator (which has the Filevault icon) there are "administrator 1" and "administrator.old"...they both only have a Library folder in them but I'm wondering if I can throw them out (maybe a hangover of pre-OS X days because it reminds me of having multiple System folders). Thanks
P.S. I have a non-FileVault user profile for doing SuperDuper backups, could this be the reason for one (or both) of the other administrator folders? (There is also a folder in the Users folder called Backup.)
Message was edited by: Oliver Lu

Turn off FileVault, log out, and try to log into those other accounts. That'll give you some idea if they're duplicates or not. The only appropriate way to *throw them out* is to log into a good admin account and use the Accounts PrefPane to delete them.

  • How do i get my pictures back after a restore?

i restored my iphone at the apple store and came home to put everything back on but cancelled it becasue i didnt have time to do it. so now i cant figure out where my picures went and how to get them back. i got 200 back from photo stream. please help.

    What pics?
pics taken with your iphone should be imported as with any other digital camera.  If you failed to do this and they are not in photo stream, then they are gone.

  • Is there a way to preserve App Folders after a restore without restoring from a backup?

I want to set up my new phone as a new phone without any iTunes backup or iCloud backup, there is too much stuff in there and want to do a nice clean install. HOWEVER, i have 440 Apps in folders, thats a lot of time to go through and manually put them back into folders etc. Is there ANY possible way to get this done easier?

    No.
Only the backup has that info.

  • 90% of pictures disappeared after new program. Time machine folders mostly empty. Downloaded my Carbonite file. Can I restore directly from this file or do I have to drag and drop 20,000 pix?

90% of pictures disappeared after adding Maverick. My Time Machine folders were in the right order but mostly empty so useless for restore. Repair and rebuild attempts were not effective. Downloaded my Carbonite file which is now sitting on my desktop. Is there any way to use the restore command to rebuild my portfolio or do I have to drag & drop approx 20,000 pictures? Can album groupings and faces be retained?

Do you still have the original library that was present at the time you upgraded to Mavericks?  If so apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • HT201210 My itouch screen froze showing "plug to itunes" after trying to update to iOS6. Is there any ways to export all the pictures from it before restoring?

My itouch screen froze showing "plug to itunes" after trying to update to iOS6. It still can be turned on and off. But the screen froze showing that message. I perhaps need to restore it. But is there any ways to export all the pictures from it before restoring?

Only if y can get the iPod out of recovery mode with the program. Otherwise you will have to restore via iTunes which erases the iPod.

  • Notes on third-party apps closing (not really crashing) after a restore

    Hello,
I'm adding the umpteenth message about a problem that, after happening basically with each single iPhone change since my old iPhone 3G onwards, I would say it's pretty common.
I have solved this problem recently with a third sequence of actions, so I'm posting my brief "history of restores" for the benefit of others. I hope I've tagged this post eloquently enough to make it easy to find.
So, in most (if not all) cases of previous restores I've bumped in the classic issue where after the restore process (which, BTW, involves always a few more sudden phone restarts than expected) only the "native" iPhone apps run normally. All the others appear for an instant and then close. They don't really crash because both in iOS 6 and iOS 7 you can see them as "running" by double-tapping the iPhone front button. Moreover, those with active notifications will actually notify the user regularly. Their UI, though, doesn't go past the splash screen.
The underlying cause, also considering it relates only to apps downloaded via App Store, is presumably some DRM-related information that gets messed up during the restore process.
My personal experience included previously two distinct solutions, and each of those only worked in that occasion, i.e. has been useless in the other cases:
The oldest, and still most documented solution, was just to download, via iPhone, a new app from the app store. After a restart, or maybe even without one, the new app and all the others started working.
The second, less mentioned online but still pretty widespread, was to sign out from the Apple Store on the iPhone, and then sign back in.
This time, where I got a replacement for my iPhone 4s because of the common problem of the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip getting "burned" or dislodged, I tried both the solutions above but they didn't work. In the process, I've found other possible solutions that didn't work:
Deauthorizing iTunes on the Mac and then reauthorizing it.
Getting a new app via iTunes and then syncing the iPhone
Sign out/in with iCloud on the iPhone.
I was therefore close to abandoning my 877 apps already configured and organized in folders in the previous backups, and willing to accept the burden of setting up the iPhone as a new phone.
Nevertheless, I still hoped that a "mixed approach" would work and, indeed, it worked.
Here is the sequence that worked in my latest case:
Restore the iPhone as a new phone
Open the App Store on the iPhone and get a new app, not among those already downloaded previously
Open that app and see that it works (actually, after an iPhone replacement steps 1-3 would make sense anyway to check that the phone works properly)
Start a restore from a previous backup
As soon as the apps start syncing again, open the first app already sync'd and check that it works. It should work, that's what happened to me, and so you can wait the whole time required to sync back all the apps.
My experience involves also a falsification of the statement that the problem resides on individual backups. This is false because I've used the same backup, at step 4, that I selected before going through 1-3 and that was not working initially. Moreover, after step 5, I've realized that the old backup I had used was too old because yesterday evening, while I had my iPhone still misbehaving with third-party apps, I took a few pictures that would have gone lost using the old backup. I have then started again from step 4 with a backup from the night after the pics, when I was fiddling to fix my issues. Also the newer backup, clearly done while the apps where "bad", ended with all my apps working again.
Basically, once the "physical" phone runs third-party apps, than any backup would work. The (missing) authorization portion that causes the misbehaviour might be related to the phone IMEI, or some other piece of information that is not included in backups.
Does anyone know a specific thread here or blog post on some website where there is a collection of cases like mine?
I'm not looking forward to seeing what voodoo variation will be required the next time I replace my iPhone...
    Hope this helps.
    All the best,
    Giovanni

  • Extra Picture Folder?

After the iOS 5 update on my 3Gs and now on my new 4s,  I have two picture folders, the "Photo Library" which was always the ones I synced via iTunes, but now I have that folder also showing (named as it is on my laptop) , which shows the same pics as the "Photo Library" how do I get rid of one of them? This is not the Photo Stream folder or the Camera Roll...it is two folders with the same pics.  The one on my Laptop that I use to sync via iTunes is called "iPhone Pics". With the old iOS, those pics were what made up my "Photo Library".  Since the update and now on my new 4s, I have the "Photo Library" AND a folder called "iPhone Pics" with the same pictures.  I don't need them doubled and hit edit when in album mode to delete the "iPhone Pics" folder but I can't.  Any ideas how to get rid of it?  If I don't sync the folder, what will go into my "Photo Library"? These are pics I took with my Canon Camera and have on my laptop but wanted on my phone also. I can't find any explanation anywhere that pertains to the photo library...just about the photo stream on iCloud....

OK..once I posted this a list of other threads showed up so I found the answer.  The iOS update basically turned the photo library into a master list of all the pics I added to my phone via iTunes..so if I had more than  one folder uploaded, they'd all be included in the ":Library" but I could also view each folder alone if I wanted to much like the master music list and playlists on iTunes.  It seems crazy to me but I only have one folder uploading so it isn't a big deal to me but I can see that for others, it's a good thing.  As long as it isn't taking up any extra space on my phone, it doesn't matter...I just wish there was a way to hide the "subfolders so they don't show unless I want them to.

  • How to move Downloads, Movies, Music& Pictures folders to an external drive

I have a 2008 iMac which hard disk (as you probably know) is not upgradable. After 16 months of use the disk became full so I bought an external firewire drive (1T LaCie d2). My plan is to move most folders located under /Users/username/ (the Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music and Pictures folders) to the external drive and replace them with aliases.
Searching on the net, I found instructions on how to move the iTunes Music folder and how to change iPhoto default photos folder. I then moved the said folders and their contents to the external drive and created the aliases. Now when I try to delete the folders for their original location I get a message stating that "folders cannot be modified or deleted because they are required by Mac OS X". I know that I can delete these folders using terminal Unix commands but is this the correct approach?
Or should I go and create a new user account using as Home directory a folder located on the external drive? Or, alternatively, just change the existing user Home to one in the external drive?
I think my question is important and of general interest and I was really disappointed to find out that Apple has no documentation on this subject (or at least, I couldn't find any).

this happens because they are protected by "deny delete" ACLs.

that's one way to do it. then you can move the folders to teh external and put symbolic links, *NOT aliases* in their original locations.
Or should I go and create a new user account using as Home directory a folder located on the external drive?
Or, alternatively, just change the existing user Home to one in the external drive?
that might be the easiest option. just copy the whole home folder to the external. then go to system preferences->accounts. unlock the lock at the bottom, control-click on your user and choose 'advanced options". in the popup change the location of the home directory to the external. then reboot and when you log in your home directory should be on the external. then you can trash the old home directory on the internal.
