Extra power cable needed for a SATA drive in a G4 AGP "Sawtooth"?

If one adds a SATA controller card and a SATA hard drive to a G4 AGP "Sawtooth", will a power cable like the one at the below link be needed, or would the necessary power cabling ordinarily come with the drive?

Thanks for the additional information, japamac.
That would be Left (or right angle 270º) for the data cable.
Which of the below data cables would be more appropriate, the 18" long one or the 39" long one?

Power connectors would be a left angle 90º to get wires going up.
I found the below two (the first is the same one linked near the top of this thread):

Is it okay to have one of the ends of a "Y" cable remain unconnected? I've done that with my existing ATA power cables, but I wanted make sure that that is also okay with the SATA power cables.

  • Do I need to install drivers for a sata drive?

I have K7N2 Delta2-LSR and it came with a sata raid driver floppy disk.  Mine is just a single drive on which I want to install Windows. I read some where that it is not needed during windows installation unless I want to setup a raid system. Is this correct? My sata drive shows up under the external device icon, the small green arrow icon on the system tray. Is it suppose to be like that or is it because I did not install the sata drivers during windows installation? Any advice please?

What brand and model of SATA drive are you using? I had two other posts on this issue because one model of Maxtor drive that I tried works fine and another model does not work at all.
My configuration is like yours, I currently only have one SATA hard drive connected to this machine. There are multiple PATA drives on the machine and they all work fine together.
Seeing your post made me do more research on my motherboard. Until now, I thought the SATA controller on this board was not capable of RAID. I know know it is, thank you silverferro and Stu

  • Enclosure for MacBook SATA drive

Do I need a special external drive enclosure for my MacBook drive? When I removed it, I noticed it doesn't have the pins where the drive is connected to the computer, but rather two thin, extended pieces that slide into the computer. My Macally enclosures were used with my older MacBook HD which had the pins (that were easily bent). I don't think my current enclosure will allow this drive to be used?
What enclosure would support this drive? It's a Hitachi drive that came with my MacBook (intel).

  • Bios settings for single SATA Drive Help

I have just installed a 945P Platnium mother board with a Pentium 4 3.4 extreme with HT tech.
I have 2 GB of memory, nvidia 1 gb video 9800 GT, I have 2 IDE hard drives: WD 320 GB(C:) and WD 120 GB (E:) and a CD/DVD drive (F:). I installed a WD 500 GB SATA drive on SATA 1 and the two IDE hard drives on IDE 1 on the same cable with the 320 GB as master and the 120 GB as slave. The CD is on IDE channel 2 as the master.  I have cloned the IDE 320 (c:) to the 500 GB Sata which is now the boot drive (c:).
I have been able to boot the computer but the CD/DVD drive doesn't show. If I unplug the the hard drives and reboot then the CD/DVD drive shows up.
My question is: I want the single 500GB sata as the boot drive (c:) (don't need RAID?). I want the two IDE drives with the 320GB as drive (e:) and the 120GB as drive (whatever) and the CD/DVD drive to show up as (F: or whatever).
I don't know what settings in the bios I need to be working with. I have been experimenting but would like the correct way to set the bios up.
    Thanks

    Nope. Didn't work.
I can try things all day but this doesn't make sense. Surely someone knows what bios settings are required (especially on the MSI board site) to set the bios on a MSI 945p platnium motherboard. I have the sata drive plugged into the Sata 1 connector and bios still says it is ide channel 4 master. The computer will boot with just the sata drive plugged in but the problems start when I plug the ide drives in on ide 1 or 2 or 3.

  • Storage controller driver for 4TB SATA drive

    Hi,
I am having trouble initializing a brand new 4TB SATA drive (Seagate Barracuda 3.5") . I am connecting it to my HP Envy 17 (Windows 7 64-bit) through a USB 3.0 hard drive dock for backup purposes only. Initialised it using GPT but nevertheless it refuses to show the true volume of the new HDD and the system keeps on recognizing it as a 1677.9GB drive.
I have been reading a little about this issue online and guess that only the volume above 2.2TB is detected but could not find a solution anywhere and Seagate doesn't offer one either. Have already tried to update the driver for this HDD (Microsoft driver version 6.1.7600.16385; driver date 6/21/2006) but the system tells me this driver should be up to date.
Thank you in advance for all your advice and guidance !

    Hi,
Check with the manufacturer of the external USB dock and make sure that it supports 4 TB hard drives.
Otherwise open up the RUN window (Admin) and try the following:
    diskpart
    list disk
select disk x ----> x equals the target disk
    clean
    exit
Now unplug the USB drive and plug it back in.  You should get a prompt to format and initialize the HD. Choose GPT and assign a drive letter and label.

  • Recommendations needed for portable hard drives

Looking for a recommendation for portable hard drives -
    1. I'm buying a new 2TB portable hard drive to use with my iMac for my Time Machine backups.
    2. Additionally, I am buying a second 2TB portable HD for the iMac for SuperDuper back ups (I'm adding a second layer of back up and bootable clone protection to my life).
    3. Finally, I need to also purchase a 1TB portable HD for SuperDuper back ups for my MacBook Air.
I'd just as soon keep life simple and buy the same brand for all 3 drives. I want things easy.
(I have Mavericks on both computers and don't want to worry about Western Digital software inadvertently being installed without my knowing it, possible causing me to lose data on my computers. So maybe it would be simplest all around to avoid WD?)
Simple and easy and reliable - that's all I ask.

    Information.
    Best external hard drive?

  • Need for HP Twain Driver

Hi, can anyone tell me where or the link that I can use to download the twain driver for an HP Officejet 8600 Pro all in one?  Thanks!

    Hello @ Rmur,
    Welcome to the HP forum.
I understand that you are looking for an HP TWAIN Driver.
    I would like to help.
TWAIN is a software protocol that goes between your computer and your scanner.
It helps ensure that your computer can understand and display the data being sent by the imaging device.
It is not something that you can download from HP.com.
When you install the 8600 full feature software, it should set everything up.
May I ask, why you are looking for a TWAIN driver?
What kind of error message prompted you to look for one?

  • Extra power cable?

I just got my new Apple TV today...
Is the new Apple TV power cable a standard connector? Where can I get one?
It's great that there is no power supply brick to deal with!
I want to be able to move it from the family room to basement, but not have to move the power cord.

will it be harmed if it is plugged in using the cable from the previous apple tv?

  • Power Down needed for adding extra disk

I have a sun netra 240 which currently has one 72GB disk,
I am adding an extra 72GB disk, my question is do I need
to power down the server to insert the new disk or can I

You do not need to power the server off to insert the new disk, this can be done live. The only thing you might have to do is run devfsadm after inserting the disk.

  • Cable/adapter for external hard drive

    Hello,
I was wondering whether or not a cable/adapter such as this would work for connecting an external 2.5 inch hard drive to my ibook.
    Thanks
    12 In. iBook G4 (1.2 ghz)   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   512MB RAM

I see however, that most of them say that they draw power directly from the USB, is this possible?? The reason I am trying to go so cheaply is that i'll only be using it once, to clone my hard drive to a new one which will then go into my ibook.
    Thanks for any replies!

  • Disk caddy needed for DVD RAM drive.

Where can I find a disk caddy for the DVD RAM drive in the Power Mac G4 I just got? I have looked on the Internet for accessories but it doesn't appear to be something that is available any more.
The computer was dropped off where I teach and I'm trying to refurbish it so it will be useful but I cannot even install OS X as the drive needs a caddy.
I was even going to replace the drive itself with a normal drive that has a drawer but all I have readily available are CD-ROM drives.

    Hey Spock,
Thanks for the star. I checked out one of those DVD-RAMs and they're very cool looking as far as the disk is concerned:

If you want one to play with I'd be glad to send it to you. I have two.
Hey it's 5.2 GB. For the time that was huge. It's a lesson of the history of technology that what is currently huge will be a joke tomorrow. Hey look at the history of floppies here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floppy_disk
I remember the first computer I saw was a gigantic wall of triodes (look it up) thirty feet long.
There was so much heat you couldn't get within 20 feet of it. The tech who serviced it (replaced the tubes when they blew out, every few minutes) said:
"16K of random access memory. It'll do square roots!"
    and we were like:
    "Ooohhhh!"

  • Power supply needed for MS-7220 (Diamond Plus) and others.

The following statement is taken form the K8B Diamond Plus Manual.
For ATX 12V power connection, it should be greater than 18A.
If I am interpreting correctly, the ATX 12V connector should have dedicated to it a minimum of 18A.
My first, question is if the Power Supply has two or more rails, how do you know the power dedicated to the ATX 12 connector on the Power Supply?
Second, if a +12V rail is not dedicated the connector, how do you know what is connected to each rail of the Power Supply?
This maybe the source of why many are saying, they have more stable system performance when using single rail Power Supplies.
I have tried eleven different manufactures to get more detailed Power Supply specifications, but no responses; today through February 1st is the Chinese New Year.
Those of you running the K8B Diamond Plus, what are you using for Power Supplies and are you having any instability problem?
One thing I did find curious was that going the manuals and in most all of the newer Socket 939 motherboards have this specification, but nothing in the motherboards specifications of on the MSI Web Site about this required and the are a lot of 500-600 Watt power supplies sold that do not meet this specification.
The statement Total Wattage does not mean a thing has even more meaning to me now.
Are we going to have to know the Current Rating of each cable on the output of a Power Supply now to insure we are purchasing the correct Power Supply?
    Roger

    Roger
Ihave a Tagan 580w U22 with switchable dual/combined +12v rails and it is very stable, set it combined for 35a.
Only thing to ponder was the 4/8 pin +12v/p4 connector, power supply has the correct split 2x4pin connectors so does the board but there is a little removable cover over 4 pins,so thinking MSI fitted it there for a reason I have fitted only one 4 pin connector,no problems as yet.
Think you may well have a point re the 18a.
I have just given my son my old sli platinum/cpu/heatsink/ram/vga card, this setup ran  250/11/4 @ 1.4v & ram 2.5 3 3 7 1.1 @ 2.75v with the Tagan.this setup now fitted in his case but with a dual 18a rail Enermax and he can't o/c stable to the old settings.Case has better cooling than the wavemaster it all came from.
Dont think the enermax is bad just that it supplies the power a different way.
