Extra unknown space taken up on iPod

I've had a 160GB iPod since the beginning of the year and originally had it synced with a Mac that I've had for a while. However I ran out of space on that computer for my music so I recently got a new HP laptop with Vista. Although it was a pain in the *** I eventually got all my music into iTunes on the PC and was able to sync up my iPod. Now, although it works fine, according to the graphic of available space for the iPod there is 55GB taken up in music (normal) and a mysterious 33GB of space taken up by "Other" (not movies, pictures, etc). This leaves 50 or so GB in space left, which is fine for now, but eventually I would like to have that 33GB as well. I've looked in all my files and can't seem to find where all this hard-drive space could be going. Any ideas?

My dad bought a 3000 n100 lenovo computer a while back, he ended up taking the show computer off of the shelf becuase they offered him a good deal. He never noticed that around 80-90 GB of 106 GB was taken up on the computer. The computer is mine now and I am absolutely confused. I have hardly any files on the computer at all, and throughout all of my files none of them are large enough to take up that much space. Someone please help, it makes no sense how all of this space could be taken up!!!

What operating system?
Space may be taken by Lenovo backup files or Windows
System Restore.
Also in Vista Shadowstorage may take alot of space,
but not permanently, it gives it back as you need it.

Space taken up on ipod - help?

When I plug my ipod in to the computer, the bar that shows the space that music photos, etc take up is filled over half way with an orange bar that says "other"/ what is this, and how do i fix it?!

Other can be Album Artwork, Notes, Contacts, Firmware etc. or files that are on there if you are using the iPod as a removable storage device. If you feel that Other is being incorrectly reported then try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

Extra large space taken in my new Macbook

I just got a new Macbook Air, and I wanted to transfer all my old data from the old macbook air, so I used time machine (tho later I realized it was wrong). Now I did the migration assistant, and my new laptop just looks like my old one. But then I checked the storage on my new laptop, it says others take up 90G! I think my accidental first attempt with time machine just copied the whole backup to my laptop, and now I barely have enough space on my disk. What should I do to delete whatever was created during the process? Thank you

However, when you use Migration after the first time you boot your new Mac it tends to create a second account, so check in /Users to be sure that isn't the case also.

You cannot use iCloud Storage to suppliment your iPad. They are mainly used to backup iPad.
Free up space on iPad
Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Delete what is not needed to free up space on iPad.

IPod Sync Problem - syncs songs, but then no songs on ipod - space taken by other

I recently got a new computer with Windows 7. I installed itunes (64 bit for windows 7) and imported my songs from my external hard drive. I automatically synced my ipod classic and once it completed got the instructions that it was ok to disconnect. When I did, my ipod shows no music, but the space taken in memory is the same as the amount of music I have (around 8,000 songs). When I reconnect, I get a message that I need to restore my ipod since the files cannot be read and they show up as other on the bottom of itunes. I've tried multiple times - restored ipod, uninstalled/reinstalled itunes, deleted ipod driver, reinstalled driver, cleared the ipod in disk mode, but no luck. Please help me solve this problem! It's driving me crazy having a new computer with itunes that does not work!

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes cant read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
My suggestion.
Connect your Ipod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When Itunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your iPod, preferably Manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got quite a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.

Updated my ipod to iOS 5 but after sync now has 13GB of space taken by "other".

I recently downloaded the iOS 5 and updated my 3rd generation, 32 GB, iPod to this, but after I snyced the iPod, I suddenly have 13.9 GB of space taken up by "other". Before the sync, I had all of that space free.

Thanks for the info, the ipod is in the middle of the restore and everything seems to be back to normal.

On iTunes, my iPhone used to have like over 100 mb free, but now, after the update, it only has 10 mb free! And the information that is taking it all up is labeled "other." Anyone else have space taken up? Thank you in advance for the help.

I think its a question of waiting for Apple to explain and solve this one.
Don't think its the extra features in the upgrade. People are reporting capacity down from 7.3Gb to 7.1Gb after restoring - this presumably is where the extra needed for the upgrade has gone.
Reading the Duscussions the size of Other is varying from 100s of Mbs to 2 Gbs which feels more like a bug or something not being 'tidied up' by the update process.

You'd think a solution would be available when you select the "more information" option.

You may need to remove some Apps, movies, and other synced content as well either via the sync process with iTunes or using the appropriate screen gestures to remove them directly from the iPod.

I realise you can you can delete them on your ipod slowly as you have to click on each one, and you can restore your ipod, but surely there is a way to get around this?

TS3195 My Ipod is reading "Ipod is Disabled. Connect to Itunes.." So i have to restore my Ipod in order for it to work. My question is how can i retrieve all my photo's taken on my Ipod before restoring it to its manufacture state?

My son decided to play with my ipod for his amusement and starting entering multiple codes as a password. Even though i had already set the option not to lock after multiple attempts, it ended up disabling anyway. So now my Ipod reads "Ipod is Disabled, Connect to Itunes." I connected it to Itunes and all i get is another error message saying:"The Ipod is locked and can not connect to Ipod." After reading multiple articles turns up i have to restore my ipod to its manufactured state. Before i do that i want to see if anyone can help me in retrieving or transferring over all my photos that were taken on that Ipod before i can even start the Recovery/Restore process. PLEASE HELP!

There is no way to get them from a disable iPod. That is pat of the security offered by the screen-lock passcode.
- If the photos were on the iPod when y last backed up you can resore from backup. See:

Can I view videos taken on my Ipod Touch on Apple TV?

I've recently purchased my Ipod Touch 4th generation and Apple TV 2nd generation - I don't seem to be able to view videos taken on my Ipod on Apple TV. Would appreciate any feedback.

You will have to import the video into your iTunes library and convert it to an AppleTV version. You can find this option in the Advanced menu in iTunes ->create iPad or AppleTV version

Try and force iPod into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off iPad
2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPod
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad
