Extract Assets plugin producing BAD color JPGs.

I am using latest version of Photoshop CC 2014.
If I use the Adobe Extract plugin to extract various assets from my PS master file, the resulting JPGs are significantly oversaturated.
If I use "Save for Web" instead, embed profile checked and save to sRGB, then the resulting JPGs are fine and match the master.
Why is Extract not producing good color??

Hi Ken
So there has been lots of back and forth on using sRGB. Ultimately we figured having it on by default leads to a lot more pain than necessary and so we did not offer it in Extract Assets.  Here is a detailed explanation by Marc Edwards on why it should not be used: Photoshop: Save For Web, Convert to sRGB should be off by default for PNGs and GIFs  and I tend to agree with him. He has also written a great post on how to color manage using Photoshop Colour management and UI design that is relevant for everyone using Photoshop for creating images on the web.
Does that help?

  • Pixel dimensions not rendering correctly with Extract Assets?

Was really excited to hear about extract assets and have been trying to set up a new workflow but am having some difficulty. My PSD is set up ay 2x size, so I need to create 1x-sized assets. My 1x-sized assets are rendering with a 1px white line around them and I can't figure out why this is happening? I have tried both with the .5x button selected and also speccing the required pixel dims in the layer name, and both produce the same result.
In my layer name I have: [email protected]%, 498x440 filename.jpg-85%
The resulting asset is 500x442px and has a 1px white line around it
    What am I doing wrong?

Hi can you email me your PSD file? My email ID is: [email protected]

  • Why can't I select "Extract Assets" in my PSD?

    Hello,
For whatever reason, I cannot select "Extract Assets" in the right-click menu of layers. I've done this before several times with success, so I'm not sure what's going on here.
I've rasterized the layer types & styles. The extract assets option is grayed out and not selectable under the File menu item either.
    Any ideas?

Found this on another adobe forum.
Any Photoshop file that is in 'CMYK' Image mode will not have 'Extract Assets' enabled. Change the mode through Image > Mode > RGB Color.
    Worked for me.

  • Slices & Extract Assets, or Copy CSS & paragraph styles for retina web designs?

I'm trying to figure out how Adobe wants me to work in Photoshop when producing website designs.
Extract Assets is useful for fixed-size objects to produce 50% & 100% assets. 200% png output results in anti-aliasing even from vector shapes. Please correct me if I'm wrong but this seemed to be the case. Slicing is useful for elements on the site that may have variable height/width needing end-caps and repeat-x or repeat-y images e.g. buttons and nav-bars.
If I need to work at 2x resolution for retina, using Extract Assets and Slices, my paragraph and character styles dimensions are doubled, as are the dimensions of all my objects. This makes the Copy CSS a bit pointless - double height, width, margin, padding, shadow blur etc.
Should I be designing at 2x resolution and extracting and slicing, or at 1x and using Copy CSS, exporting paragraphing styles? Or something in-between?

Hi Ben, I ammended this line of code as you have shown and still I have no joy. So I reverted to an older version which was correct, but i am stil having the same issue.
I have a my_site folder (defined local root folder), with the index.dwt in it. In my_site there is also an assets folder with 3 further folders, CSS, JS and Images and their respective files in these.
Bregent. Thanks, I did define at set up. I went back to manage sites and checked there too and thr root file on the local is the same at set up. I just don't get why after I made changes to the carousel and and reiploaded the site I have had issues :-(
Any other places I should be looking people? This is driving me crackers!

  • Write Me a Curves Plugin to Match Colors

I need some help.  Would someone be willing to write me a plugin function for CS3 or 4 windows?
    Here is what I need.
I need to be able to produce a "Color Cast Adjustment Layer"... using Curves.   Heres what I mean.  Its for color retouching.
I want to be able to pick two colors with the color sampler tool.  Click on a color and have it be point #1 on the info pallete just as it normally is... and then remember those RGB color numbers under color sampler tool point #1.....then... pick a second color with the color sampler tool... and then remember its rgb numbers too.
Now here is the catch...we need to take the "center point of the rgb curves adjustment layer function"  and adjust the rgb numbers from sample point #2...to equal the RGB numbers from sample #1. This produces an "offset color"...the color I need to paint over point #2 so that it now becomes the same as color #1...my chosen color.
This is going to be used to be able to paint out color casts in an image with a perfect offset color...so that the second color... which is my problem color...now looks like color #1... which is my preferred color.  This is great for retouching.
I would be willing to work closely with a developer, I have the ability to do a special kind of video conference so that we can both see eachothers screens live real time, and audio talk about the concepts live, just like we were sitting in the same room together.  So we can collaborate very easily...and I can show you he steps I have to take manually to get this done.
If anyone could help...I might even be willing to pay someone to help develop this for me.
Im OK at photoshop and C+ but not this kind of programming.
    Thanks
    Suzzie12

    Jhon,
I am working on a collection of useful examples and hints for DataPlugin development. This document and the DataPlugin examples are still in a early draft phase. Still I thought it could be helpful for you to look at it.
I have added an example file format which is similar to what you described. It's referred to as Example_1. Let me know whether this is helpful ...

  • Printing to an Epson R2880 results in bad color (only from Adobe SW)

I've had a nice workflow that I've used for years.  I'm sure many of you would find it a bit tedious and I won't go into the details of it, but the important part is that I always printed out of Photoshop (CS6 Extended - now at 13.0.3 - yes I have the stupid Trial window bug, but that's another matter).  My monitors are profiled (no custom printer profiles, but I've downloaded appropriate profiles from PixelGenius for those times when I've needed them, and with my color management my prints have been fairly accurate.  I use and Epson Stylus Photo R2880 and I've been very happy with it.  I mainly work on a 24" iMac (2009 vintage).  Recently I decided to change my workflow entirely based on some of the tutorial videos I've purchased from LL.  I decided I was ready to integrate much more LR into the workflow, especially now that it includes soft proofing.  Because of the new workflow I was really looking forward to printing out of LR.  That should more or less get you current.
To date, I haven't printed with my new workflow and I'd say I haven't printed anything since 13.0.1 on PS and 4.1 on LR (not that I was printing from LR at the time).  Having not printed in a while I knew I'd need a head cleaning (sure enough I did) and, as is my habit, once the head was clean, I printed (from LR) a 4x6 of the image I planned on printing at a larger size.  It catches any lingering gunk after a cleaning.  The print just didn't look right to me (too dark and the colors were a little off).  I've encountered prints with bad colors once before and it turned out to be a driver issue.  In the process I found a great image that is indicative of some kind of problem and I keep both good and bad prints of it handy... just in case.  I decided to print this image, and sure enough it came out looking like the standard craptastic version I was getting with the bad driver ages ago.  Just to check out that it didn't have to do with my new process, I printed the same image from PS (which worked fine last time I printed this image).  It too came out all wrong (the same all wrong as LR).  Since the bad prints looked just like the old "bad driver" prints, I figured I knew what was going on and worked with Epson to reset my print pipeline and reinstall my printers (I also have a Workforce 845 for "throw away" printing and for my wife to use).
With new installs for my printers in place I went ahead and printed again... and again it came out wrong.  I was, to say the least, despondent.  As a final sanity check I loaded the image up in Nikon Capture NX2 (version 2.3.1) and did a print.  All of a sudden the print came out perfect.  It matched my old "good" prints and, just as importantly, was a dead ringer for the image on the screen.  This is where I find myself.  Apparently color management is broken in my Adobe products, but works fine in my Nikon software.  I'm at a bit of a loss.  I'm 99.999999999% sure that I'm printing out of LR, and especially PS, correctly.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'd love to be able to print again.  Printing out of Capture NX2 is really not a great option.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

I agree this whole issue is confusing. I have been on the issue (proper printer driver behavior and proper application behavior) using Apple's new print path for a few years now, so I will try to make an attempt to clear up as much confusion as possible.
If drivers and applications are working (written) properly this is how it is supposed to work.
When printer manages color is selected in an application print dialog then all functions of the printer driver are available.
When applications manages color is selected then Color Matching is grayed out defaulted to ColorSync, and the property written print driver defaults to No Color Adjustment (Epson) or No Color Correction (Canon).
See attached examples of both Epson 9600 driver version 8.19 and Canon iPF driver version 2.14.
Epson can and has definitely gotten it right with their latest drivers.
Canon on the other hand uses a special case file (AppColorMatchingInfo.xml) which list the applications that use Apple's new printing path. New application like Photoshop CS5 will need to be added to this file or the driver will default to color management when application manages color is chosen which results in double profiling.
I see nothing that indicates to me that neither Apple or Adobe have problems or bugs in this printflow. Only drivers (and old drivers) that are not written correctly for Apple's new printing path seem to have these problems with double profiling. That being said, do I agree with Apple's approach regarding the new print path? NO. It appear to be an attempt to idiot proof printing using application manages color printing, although it is claimed to be necessary for 64-bit applications. I personally would prefer to use the old print path (like still available in Indesign) where all options are available in the driver regardless of what CM setting I choose in the application print dialog. But it is what it is.

  • Converting color .jpg image to grayscale

I have a color .jpg image that I want to convert to grayscale and then add annotation. Is this easy to do in Illustrator?

    Thomas Crowley wrote:
I've opened the .jpg image in Illustrator. It is a line drawing.
Those two statements constitute a logical fallacy. A JPEG image is a bitmap, and not, in any way or fashion, a "line drawing". Therefore,
...I cannot edit individual parts of the drawing.
is because the "individual parts" of the image are single color pixels. To "edit" these, you need a bitmap editor.
It's necessary to say "edit" (w/quotes) because you will be editing pixels. Any notion of 'lines', 'planes', and 'shades' only exist in your mind, and not as physical separate objects somewhere inside the bitmap. If you think you can "select" a big black square "object" in the bitmap editor, well, that's because the software only makes you think you can (it's easy to scan for the edge of a single color filled region).

I have just updated photoshop cc (14.2.1) but the I don't have the "extract assets" function in the menu "file".
    It doesn't exists.

Extract assets tool not found in Photoshop 2014 (updated version). How do i get this tool available for me?

And thanks for reporting back. Glad you got it sorted out.
The naming convention can be misleading.
People use CC when they mean CC 2014.  aka v. 14  and v. 15 respectively.
But Adobe is labeling their products as suite groups.  CS 6, CC, CC 2014.

  • Satellite M115-S1061 - display issue - bad colors

According to my daughter, her Satellite laptop running XP-SP2 suddenly went dim. At first I thought it might be the backlight inverter so I obtained a replacement but changing that failed to make any improvement.
Experimenting with the display settings it became apparent that many of the display colors were not what they should have been and I began to think something had happened to the LCD or its cabling causing the loss of one of the primary colors i.e.: blue however, upon rebooting I observed plenty of blue from the diplay until XP fully booted.
While changing themes and setting in an attempt to obtain a mere usable display, it became increasingly obvious that there is some type of video inversion going on.
That said, I can find no setting that would could cause this or any similar report of this malady. I have swept for any virus and gone back several restore points with no findings or imprivement.
The driver has not been updated so there is no ability to rollback to an earlier iteration and a search for an update indicates the current dirver is the latest.
Also, as noted, during initial boot-up the display appears to be of relatively normal brightness and the colors are as they should be...
It is not until the XP desktop launches that things go astray.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as school is back in session and I either get this resolved and get a new laptop!
    TIA,
    Bob

According to your description I believe that this might be a graphic card problem.
I would really recommend connecting an second, external display/monitor to this notebook to check if the same bad colors would be visible on the external monitor.
If the same bad colors would appear at the same time on the second monitor then the issue could be really related to a bad GPU chip
In such case a replacement (motherboard) would be necessary

  • Extracting assets

Not sure why I'm extracting assets and only half the image is getting extracted - basically cutting it in half - what am I doing wrong - it worked perfectly the first time?

I managed to fix this issue. First of all make sure you upload the data using built in FTP in Adobe Muse to avoid any issue. Although you can also use some other FTP but thats more work compared to the ftp option already present in muse.
In my case the problem was due to the permissions assigned to the images on my host. I contact my host and asked them that images aren't showing up. They corrected the persmission and now my site is live.
I have seen similar questions by users asking the solution for the same problem. You need to contact your host and ask them to correct the permissions.
    Hope this helps!
