Extract audio and record to a CD

Is it possible to extract the audio from a clip and burn it to a CD? If so what would that workflow be?
Thanks
Kent

Often, in order to solve a particular problem, you need several different bits of information. There's a section in the FCE user manual about exporting audio. There's another that discusses using tracks from an audio CD in FCE, and that's where you find out the specifics of CD audio files. It can be hard to glean all the details you need from one spot in the UG, as voluminous as it is. That's one of the wonderful things about this forum, IMHO. I guess what I'm saying is that the only advice I could offer is to break your issue down into as many different discreet parts as possible and find the information you need for each part.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
The iPhone can maintain multiple pairing records, but it can only connect to one headset or hands-free device at a time. However, in your situation there may be a solution. You can connect the iPhone via Bluetooth for calls and use the 3.5mm jack on your iPhone and car radio to connect for music.

  • Extracted audio and GarageBand

    Happy New Year to everyone!
Today I have been working with a very short video clip (3:24:24) taken Christmas eve. Unfortunately popping sounds can be heard in the audio track and as a result I extracted the audio in attempt to fix this. I copied the extracted audio to the Desktop and from there placed it in an empty track in GarageBand for fixing.
My problem is that in GarageBand the audio clip is longer than prior to extraction. The initial length prior to moving it into GarageBand 3:24:24, but once in GarageBand is longer 3:42:43. This happens before I do anything to it. It is longer from the moment I place it inside GarageBand. Prior to this it has the proper length.
I noticed this the first time I pasted the audio back into iMovie HD since the audio was out of sync!! I thought I did something wrong in GarageBand and so I went back and fixed another copy of audio clip with the same results.
Also, also the audio is 16 bit.
I don't understand why it is longer in Garageband. Any suggestions or help would be great!

    Happy New Year!
After I wrote my message I went searching to the GarageBand 2 discussions and found this possible solution from a member named "hangtine":
    Q. How do I convert a sound with iTunes? (The Never-Fail™ method) neverfail
    A. Drag the sound file into the iTunes window, if it isn’t already there. Set iTunes’ Importing preference to AIFF, 44.1k, 16-bit. With the name selected in the iTunes window choose Convert to AIFF from under the Advanced menu.
When the conversion is done a new file will be created and listed in the iTunes window (Convert doesn’t actually convert, it recreates in the new format). Select this new iTunes song and chose Show Song File from under the File menu. Drag this file into your GarageBand Timeline and it will play fine.
I followed this advice with my audio clip, and my GarageBand-corrected audio clip was almost normal in length, although it was 4 secs. longer. Nevertheless, I was able to used it in iMovie.
Since I still had an unaltered audio clip in iMovie, I synchronized (visually) the "changed" waveform with the waveform unaltered one. The video and sound was synchronized! Still, the audio clip had 2 additional seconds added at the begining and at the end. I plan to crop the audio and everything will be OK.
I wish there was an easier way. I will try your suggestion with QuickTime.
    Thank you.

  • Extracted Audio and Video Project CRASHED!

    Hello,
HELP!! I put a 9 minute video together and wanted all of the Audio Out. So, I went into Timeline, selected ALL the audio clips, went to Advanced and clicked Extract Audio.
Now the Video won't play properly. It's like a bunch of still frames, and I can still hear the audio.
When I pull an individual clip from the project and put it in the clip viewer, the Video is fine and there is no audio.
How can I get my movie back? I am desperate.
    Thanks
    Frankie G.

    Catspaw,
I'm new at this, so I don't have my terminology down, but I know this for sure: Thanks for your help. I'm back in Business.
I went into the Cache folder, got the .mov file, created a new project, and moved the .mov file to the Timeline. Then I Saved the File and dumped the 4 gigs of trash that was mostly Extracted Audio files.
But, when I played the my project it was only 32 seconds of Black.
That, however, was the Original Project where I'd Extracted the Audio and created all those problems.
Backing up a bit: I had also followed your advice by moving All the clips--one by one--from the Timeline back to the Clips file. Then I saved the project, renamed it, but when I tried to play it back things got whacky and that spinning colored wheel would go forever.
But, I wasn't giving up, so I followed the Cache/.mov file procedure with the Re-Edited version and Bingo--It worked.
The two steps you suggested were the way to go.
The .mov file entered the Timeline as One 9-minute clip, but that was not a problem because I had completed the project. Before I hit Save Project, I Exported it to a fresh tape in my video camera.
Thanks again for your help, and I hope this lengthy message helps others.
    Take care.

  • Can i simultaneously play audio and record a different stream?

    Hi!
I've got a Mac Pro and am contemplating purchase of a Macbook Pro. In short, I have a radio show, and I play much of my music off of a laptop.
The station has a Lexicon Alpha connected to our console. One typically plays music via iTunes through a USB connection. Thus, the Lexicon handles digital->analog conversion.
I'd actually like to record my show from the console to my laptop. I would likely purchase something like an http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/duet.php>Apogee Duet that would handle analog->digital conversion. I presume I'd use something like Logic Pro (or perhaps there is some free software like Garageband that might be fine for this purpose) to record/save the stream. Note: The Duet has a Firewire interface.
Is this possible on the Macbook Pro?
I'm guessing that it is possible, simply because:
    1) No digital-analog or analog-digital conversion is being performed onboard, thus the computer is simply handling 2 digital data streams.
    2) Further, the devices are not transmitting a signal on the same bus (USB or Firewire) but, rather, using one of each. Perhaps that doesn't make any difference.
Thanks in advance for confirming this for me. It will help in a purchasing decision.

    AG,
Since I have both types of devices an older USB Tascam US-122 and a Presonus Firestudio I tried a quick test. Played Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" in itunes via Tascam USB output and recorded a stereo guitar track in Logic via the Firestudio. Worked fine on this older G5 desktop.

  • Windows Vista, Audio and Recording Proble

I have just installed Windows Vista, and am having some serious problems with my audio. My problem is, that my mic does not function at all, and i have spent two days trying to fix this. My sound card is a Creative Soundbalster 5. sound card, and?apparenty will not work,?as it is supposedly?not Vista supported, but please, prove me wrong. I can only get sound output if i use intergrated, as there seems to be no drivers for 64-Bit VistaI?am using intergrated sound at the moment, and i can hear fine, but my mic will not work at all.
I have tried all the obvious options and as said, spent two days trying to fix it. As stated, i am running 64-Bit Windows Vista, and have a Creative SoundBlaster 5. that has no drivers. When i use intergrated, i get sound but the mic wont work.Any help at all would be appreciated, so please, help if you know anything. Thanks, Nos.

If you try the modded drivers by Daniel_K, you will get full functionality like in XP. But if you still want to have Vista's enhancements, then you should modify the Installation INF of the drivers.
I have detailed the necessary steps in this thread a long time ago.

  • HT4016 How to extract audio from a movie that is already in my project without having to delete and re-import the movie?

    The article is
"How to extract audio from a movie file"
But it only tells you how to extract when you first drag the movie file into the project.  This much is obvious when a dialog presents you with a checkbox asking if you want to "Extract the audio track" ... Duh
    Here was my workflow:
Dragged the movie file into my project
I checked "Extract the audio track"
I shifted the "Movie Start Time"
Extracted audio track did not shift with the movie
I deleted the extracted audio and played the audio directly from the movie
Now, I need the audio extracted again at the current movie position
I knew where this option was in the Logic 9 menus, but I'm having trouble finding it in Logic X
Is this option still available, or has it been removed?

    Solved:
I found the menu option for extracting or re-extracting the movie audio.  BTW, the original article:
Logic Pro 9.1: How to extract audio from a movie file in 64-bit mode
should really also state the menu command for extracting the audio, not just the procedure when first adding the movie to the project.
    Here's the menu command:
    File>Movie>Import Audio from Movie

  • Can I record audio and spread it across several slides

I am having trouble recording audio at the same time I am
recording a software simulation. Must be like the chewing gum and
walking thing! I would like to record a few slides at a time and
then add the audio. I select Audio and record, but it only records
on the first slide...or whichever slide it happens to be on. I
thought I saw somewhere that I could choose to spread the audio
file across several slides if I choose. Can anyone tell me if this
is possible and how to do that?

    Hi deidrelynn
After you make that long voiceover, have you tried clicking
Audio > Edit Timing... and adjusting the split bars where you
want the audio to break? If not, perhaps that's worth a shot.
    Cheers... Rick

  • TA25603 I can't find the advanced menu in order to extract audio.

I'm using iMovie '09 and I have Advanced features turned on.  I am having issues syncing up audio and video with a few of my clips.

I know how to detach the audio.  I am having trouble syncing up the audio and video for some clips in my movie and one of the suggested things to do was to extract audio and use the audio as one separate track.  I don't know where I find "extract audio."

  • Extract Audio is grayed out

    Hey guys,
I searched for a solution but haven't found one. Hopefully somebody knows what's going on.
I took the selection tool and selected my video/audio1 clips (two short ones) Went to Clip, Audio and then Extract Audio was grayed out.
Audio Grain and Render and Replace were not grayed out, though.
    CS5
    Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit
Not many other programs running. Shouldn't be a RAM issue.
    Thanks for any help,

Extract Audio is only available when you select a master clip in the Project panel or a bin, not in a sequence.
(Funny; I was just going to link you to the Help document page about Extract Audio, and I saw you posted there Notice what it says in Step #1?)

  • Audio Out of Sync in iDVD 6 Even When Extracting Audio iMovie 6

I realize this issue has been addressed since the first release of iDVD, but the previous workarounds of “Extracting Audio” in iMovie 6 no longer seem to keep the audio in sync when burning to iDVD 6. In fact, the audio is even out of sync in the iDVD preview now; i.e, the preview correctly shows the audio will be out of sync on the DVD-Video.
I have read at least one post that states Extract Audio (in iMovie) does nothing but pastes the audio on a separate track, but Apple’s own Knowledge Base offers this as a solution.
For those of us that have years of video that is analog or 12 bit, the Extract Audio seemed to be the solution, but no longer.
As a noteworthy side comment not meant to make this post too long, iMovie 6 is significantly slower in extracting the audio for a 2 -hour project, taking hours, and making the iMovie file 50MB. The process sometimes stalls to the point where “Force Quit” shows iMovie in Red and “Not Responding” but the process does eventually complete. The previous versions would keep the audio and video files in a separate folder and the iMovie file was a more manageable size. Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated.

I am fairly new to iDVD 6 and iMovie HD (widescreen), but I an currently assembling a highlight DVD for my daughter's softball team. We are in mid season. I had been creating separate movies (per game). I extracted audio and/or added sound and video effects to some of the movies clips. Alas not only do the extracted (original audio) and added audio (outdoor cheer) disappear but also the video special effects (slow motion) are not maintained in widescreen but are pillarboxed when copied/pasted.
At any rate, I am have now created a compilation iMovie and will be dumping new footage into it as we go. Editing the compilation, as well as editing separate "save as" individual game movies.
I only had 2-3 clips that had been audio manipulated and shared those back to my video camera and then reimported from camera back to the compilation project. The extracted audio with separate tracks are now a single audio clip but at least I have audio during those clips.
To end this ramble, knowing the limitations of messing with audio and trying to cut and paste to different movies I will now create duplicate movies with a master having no audio enhancements.
    Dave
    Thanks, Len
I hadn't thought about this option. It seems like a
lot of work. I wish there was an easier way. I have
archived ("Shared" to full dv quality) to DVD-ROM
discs all the raw .dv clips AFTER extracting the
audio, hoping that I could use these clips to
assemble custom DVD-Videos in the future, without
having to "Extract Audio" a second time. The .dv
clips all play perfectly with the audio synced in
Quicktime. Of course, the clip's audio was in sync
before the "Extract Audio" was applied. This sync
problem ONLY rears it's ugly head with iDVD Video
discs (don't know about DVD Pro). Thanks again for
    the suggestion.

  • Recovering extracted audio

I posted this under another topic, so I apologize for reposting, but I'm really curious if someone has the answer to this question.
I performed the extract audio on a project that was created using iMovie HD 05. I upgraded to iMovie HD 06. The extraction was performed on iMovie HD 06. Now the audio is completely garbled. There was no undo in the edit menu when I finished.
Is there any way to recover the extracted audio? Or do I have to start from scratch.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russell

    Russell,
When you use the Extract Audio command, the audio is copied from the original video clip and placed in one of the separate audio tracks.
The volume level of the audio in the original clip is then set to zero.
So in your case what I would try is deleting the garbeled extracted audio and then select the original video and type 100% to replace the 0% in the clip volume box at the bottom of the iMovie window (or click on the little speaker icon and slide the volume slider back up to the 100% mark).
You can then use the Extract Audio command again.
Post back if this doesn't work.

  • Recording narration on tape - extracting audio only - workflow suggestions?

I have a bunch of students who are recording their narration tracks onto tape via a camcorder.
What is the best workflow to get these clips with audio only into iMovie 08?
Presently, we are capturing all the clips iMovie 08, then using Movie Tools Convert to AIFF droplet, dragging the aiff's into iTunes and accessing them in iMovie from iTunes.
Alternative suggestions? There are lots of narration clips and lots of students working in a noisy computer lab, so direct recording is really not a good choice here.
Don't have QTPro on the computers.
If I'm doing the CMD+Shift drag technique correctly, you must drop the clip ONTO an existing clip to get the audio separated from the video.
There is no way to extract the audio any other way in iMovie 08?
Is the better workflow to install iMovie 06 and use it's Extract Audio feature?
There would still be several steps to getting the extracted tracks into iMovie 08.
thanks for any suggestions or pointers

the 'Export with Quicktime..' option allows you to choose 'Aiff' as option.. that exports the audio-only of any project..
so, one option of workflow is: import camcorder-narrations into an Event, create Project, Export As Aiff, (process in Garageband), and the usage of iTunes is in my opinion a very clever way.. (using Playlist to organize audio before usage in iM) ..
another way is, to do all audio work in Garageband.. which is the intended workflow in iLife08.. edit in iM08, 'share', and do all audio in GB ..
consider to install iMHD6 on one computer as 'audio workstation': import tapes into an iMHD6 project, Export as Aiff, share those audio files to other Macs (LAN, usb sticks) - a good naming scheme is of paramount importance
.. There would still be several steps to getting the extracted tracks into iMovie 08.
    basicly: yes.

  • Transfer PAL to NTSC and extract audio:  Best Place in L.A.

I have a little record company.  I'm going to release a video of a concert as a DVD and will ALSO release a CD of the same concert.  I want to extract audio from the PAL (for the CD)at best quality for remastering.
I also want to Convert the PAL to NTSC so I can edit it in FCP.  (I assume that's the best quality Video I can get under the circumstances.  Is that so?  Is there a better way?  It's music, so it HAS TO BE in sync)
I will do the editing for the DVD master, and my mastering guy will deal with the music for the CD.
    1. Can anyone suggest the best place in L.A. to do these transfers?
    2.  Can anyone suggest the best place in L.A. to author and replicate the DVDs?

    Laurie,
I've put the word out to the LA contingent of FCP elitists about your question. Hopefully one of them will respond.
If you decide to go through a software based conversion, there is a thread over in the FCP forum that will be useful to read.
