Extract image in Photoshop CS4

Hello, I'd like to extract an image in Photoshop CS4, but I can't find the Extract tool. I saw an online tutorial that says it's under the Filter Menu > Extract. But it's not there. Any thoughts?
Thank you.

  • Cannot edit PSE 5 Organizer image in Photoshop CS4

After reverting from the Organizer in PSE 6 to PSE 5, I had been using the PSE Organizer with Photoshop CS2 without difficulty. I have upgraded to CS4, but before doing so, I replaced my hard drive and did a clean install of Windows XP and my various programs, among which was PSE 5. The catalog which had been backed up came through fine in the new install. Today I was browsing through the Organizer and chose an image to edit in Photoshop CS4. Unfortunately, although CS4 opened, I got an error message that "An error occurred while attempting to edit the file in the external editor." I tried to designate CS4 as an external editor, but, as I expected, PSE would not accept it as Photoshop is normally recognized as an editor. I had backed up Documents and Settings from my old drive and can access them, if that would be helpful. I would appreciate any information that would put ne on the right track to solve this problem.

There is an old workaround to make PSA2(Organizer 2)use CS2 the external editor. I have no idea if it will do any good in your case. Might be worth a try though.

"Peter, we have found that PSA really does use CS2 with a simple workaround: you must go into the CS2 folder, right-click the executable file, select COPY from the pop-up menu. Now, right-click any blank area of the same folder and select PASTE to add a copy of this executable. I suggest renaming this copy to something like CS2COPY.EXE
Now, back in PSA, point the "default editor preference" to this newly named executable file, CS2COPY.EXE. Make sure you are not selecting a shortcut to the original program executable."

  • Opening raw images in PHotoshop CS4 extended

I appologize in advance for this DILETTANTE question. I was happily using Lightroom II until recently when I decided, like an idiot,  to buy Adobe Design Suite, which includes Photoshop Cs4 Extended.
I am unable to open raw images, I get "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.". The camera I use right now is Canon 5D Mark II. Lightroom does not have any problem either importing the raw images from the card or importing them from my hard disk, if I had already copied them there from the camera card.
    Could anybody help me?

For that camera you need the ACR plug-in version 5.2 or higher; you probably still have 5.0 from the installation of the software.
Check in PS Help > About Plug-in...
For 5.5 for Mac look here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4577

  • Float images in photoshop cs4 - edit preferences untick open doc as tab doesnt work

Hi, i have read about floating all images in windows on the forums and i have tried unticking the open documents as tabs in the edit preferences - interface section and it doesnt work, my hand is really starting to hurt, i dont know why this isnt working ?

If you drag the files to the margins (e.g., near the menu bar) of Photoshop CS4 (11.0.2), and not to the workspace, they will actually open as windows.
It'll actually do the expected thing in CS5 (i.e., open as Window) even if you drag the file to the workspace - in other words they finally fixed that bug.
Kind of a shame Adobe doesn't think blatantly wrong stuff like the "drag to workspace always opens a tabbed view" bug is important enough to fix in maintenance releases for older products.

  • Can you guide me how to mirror an image using Photoshop CS4 ME ?

    hello guys...
as I was surfing the InDesign forum, I just found this which is exactly like the question I was about to ask, but since I read that it's not that easy to do it with InDesign, I am sure that it's doable by Photoshop, but how ???
any way to do it ???
    thank you very much .

Unfortunately I'm not too good for recommending good tutorials, as I'm almost 100% self-taught (experiment, try, fail, try again, succeed, that kind of thing).
A Google search for "create mirrored image using Photoshop" does turn up a lot of tutorial content, e.g., http://www.photoshop911.com/tricks/mirror_image.html
With Photoshop you can do anything to an image given sufficient time and effort.
    Enjoy the journey!

  • So they removed Pattern maker, and the Extract filters from Photoshop CS4

Personally I hardly ever used these, but did occasionally. I was wondering how this is going to affect others?
I don't see how removing two items from the filters menu makes much difference to anything. Maybe its more of a launch time issue, although I'm not sure that taking functionality away just to have fraction of a second faster launch, is a little daft.
They are still included on the CD, but this is going to inconvenience me if I ever need them in a freelance role. There were problems with both of them: When I first saw extract, it was almost as if the engineeers themselves hadn't woken up to non destructive editing. And pattern maker lacks the most obvious features, and doesn't perform particularly well. They are also both slow and cumbersome to use.
    But
they do have other occasional uses beyond what they were (admittedly quite badly) designed for, especially pattern maker for reintroducing sampled texture sourced from the image. I don't see much replacement for this

    Regarding "Extract" and "PatternMaker":
If you really need them right now, just add the CS3 plug-ins into CS4 they will work as they always have.
Actually, John Nack has stated that those old plug-ins will be downloadable from the Adobe site if you need them.
    >We've bitten the bullet with this release and have sent a number of features into retirement. Extract, Pattern Maker, Web Photo Gallery, Contact Sheet, Picture Package, and PDF Presentation have been removed from the default installation.
    >
The latter four have been replaced by the Output module in Bridge CS4, and our intention is to replace Extract with features inside Photoshop (building on Refine Edge & more). All of these except PDF Presentation will remain available as optional installs (to be posted on Adobe.com), but over time they'll be phased out.

  • Help with image analysis Photoshop CS4 Extended

Hi there - I recently went to the Birmingham NEC photo expo and saw a guy there giving a CS4 extended demo.  He showed how at the click of a button a folder of new photos were reduced to a smaller bunch of just the most tack-sharp ones.  I can't find out how to do this with my CS4 Extended - can anyone help - or am I just imagining it all  :-)))

    Sounds interesting.
Did he do that in Photoshop itself or Bridge or Lightroom?
Anyway, I suspect one could maybe achieve something like this in Photoshop with some fairly heavy Scripting, but I suspect the Script would have to actually open the images for analysis …

  • Can I scan an image from Photoshop CS4 (or another component?)

I'm new to Photoshop (used to Corel PhotoPaint where I have a command under "File" to "acquire" an image from an external scanner).
Is there a way to do it in Photoshop or do I look for another app in CS4 for that purpose?
    Thanks,
    Rob

I have a CanoScan 8800F, which I can use through Twain (PSE, CS5/32-bit) or WIA (also with CS5/64-bit). The WIA interface offers only very rudimentary functionality (eg no activation of backlight for scanning transparencies). I don’t buy the argument that I should not tie up a $1000 piece of software for $200 (or so) piece of hardware. When I scan, and particularly when I scan old off-color slides, I don’t know beforehand if I can salvage the image with post-processing or if I should adjust the scanner settings. If I scan from Photoshop, I can adjust color and tonality, and I fail to salvage the image, I can re-scan with different settings, while the slide is still in the holder.
Some say that it is silly to a tie up a $1000 piece of software for $200 (or so) piece of hardware. What, then, do you call investing money and learning time for another piece of software if I already own Photoshop and can use it?
The present implementation of the Twain scanning with the 8800F is suboptimal, however. For instance, if I have been scanning slides and the scanner driver is set up for color transparencies, and I then configure the scanner for scanning paper (by removing the slide holder and inserting the back plate which blocks the backlighting), my next attempt to scan aborts with an error message that the scanner is unable to scan slides, probably because the backlighting is blocked. The scanner UI, along with the tab for adjusting scanner settings, is visible in the background, but I can’t access it because of the error message. And when I acknowledge the error message, the scanner UI disappears. I must physically re-configure the scanner to scan slides, then select paper scanning (in the software) and again re-configure the scanner for scanning paper.
    Best regards,
    Antero

  • Opening Bridge preview images in Photoshop CS4

When I click on Open to open an image previewed in Bridge, the image opens in Paint. I try to click on Open With and am given a menu of Paint (default), BullGuard (my antivirus)FS resizer and Explorer, with no means of changing those. What can I do to change this so as to open in Photoshop?

Thanks for that Curt. However, the method in the link does not work for me, but I found an answer for myself: for any others with this problem, do the following:
Bridge > preferences > file type associations > jpeg > click on arrowhead > browse > select CS4

  • Cropping tool now deletes whole image in Photoshop CS4

Recently the cropping tool has taken to deleting the whole image, no matter what is cropped.  I've been attempting to trim the edges, something that was working just fine a few months ago (now operating under Snow Leopard, so wouldn't be awfully surprised if it was an SL glitch). But...suddenly, for no obvious reason, when I select part or most of an image and then hit return to crop, the entire image disappears and I'm left with nothing.
I've scanned through the preferences but can't find anything related that might be set or checked where it shouldn't be.  Wondering if this is where we throw out the plist and try again; and also if this is a phenomenon others have encountered.
    thanks,
    gf

    Wade,
Sorry I didn't answer your previous post. No, resetting the crop tool, for whatever reason, didn't wipe that 1pixel measurement in Width (and frankly I still don't know when or how it arrived in the first place, but clearly must have been me at some point).  I've used Photoshop for more than a decade and it's the first time I've bunged that up quite so cleverly.  Now you mention it, though, it's odd a reset didn't wipe out that measurement.  Now at least I'll be watching to see if and how it returns.

  • Cannot Paste Image into Photoshop CS4

I've lost the consistent ability to paste images from otehr applications (e.g. screen captures or web browsers) into Photoshop. It doesn't seem to matter what the source application is (so a screen-cap utility versus alt+prtScrn makes no difference).
This is issue is plaguing the majority of artists in our game studio.
It's even happening on new, clean installations. It happens under both XP and Win7.
The problem is progressive -- it starts mildly, and gets worse over days and weeks (not just during a single session).
When Photoshop starts, you can always paste at least one external clipboard image into it. After some number of external pastes, however, PS will simply stop importing the contents of the external clipboard, and will just keep pasting its own internal clipboard over and over. The # of pastes keeps getting shorter and shorter as the problem progresses -- for myself and our art director, we can usually only paste ONCE and then have to restart Photoshop. Twenty times a day.
The "Edit->Purge" menu options are often greyed-out, so that's not an option for fixing.
    Please Help!
    thanks
    kb

There is a registry tweak that affects Photoshop's clipboard importation process.
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop\11.0]
    “AlwaysImportClipboard”=dword:00000001
Might be worth a try adding that value on your system.

  • Can someone please tell me how to save an image from Photoshop CS4 as a RTL file?

I recently bought a VuTek Printer and I have to have a RTL file that is from Photoshop, does this have anything to do with PostScript?

Are you sure about that .RTL file extension?
All that I can find (quick search on Google), indicates that it is a Borland (software) RunTime Library file, in a TXT format.
Are there any details in the printer's manual about what it needs, with an explanation of the .RTL format?
    Good luck,

  • How to unblur image in photoshop cs4

    please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    help
i don't know how to unblur it

i don't know how to unblur it
As John said - please provide more info/ an example. There's a million types of "blur" or loss of sharpness and each of them can require different treatment. Still, at the risk of shattering your illusions - what's not there, is not there. Even the smartest computer algorithm cannot reconstruct or invent pixels from something that was photographed the wrong way or blurred excessively with other methods. And even for mild stuff there are limits to sharpening before it looks goofy...

  • Sharpen image in Photoshop cs4

A co-worker had a TV stolen and I am trying to help her by sharpening an picture of the serial number on the back but I can't seem to sharpen it enough to read the numbers on the back using the unsharp mask.

    Where is the serial number?
If it’s above the bar code on the white sticker on the left I would consider this undertaking hopeless.

  • Editing in Photoshop CS4 rotates image

After making adjustments in Lightroom 3.2, if I then edit the image in Photoshop CS4, the image rotates slightly clockwise and affects any cropping and adjustments to the vertical I have already done in Lightroom. The rotation occurs as the image is opened in Photoshop so that when I return from Photoshop to Lightroom my image has changed (not counting those made in Photoshop). Why is this happening? I am working in Windows 7.

Thanks, Dorin, for your response. That sounds like the right explanation. Would CS5 handle the perspective adjustments and lens corrections correctly?
The files I am editing in Lightroom are pef (Pentax) or dng converted from pef by DxO. Right now I am right-clicking the image in Lightroom and selecting "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4". I get the same result with Ctrl+E; but Ctrl+Alt+E does nothing for me. Nothing happens with the latter. That may be because I am already using Topaz's tlfusionexpress2 as Lightroom's secondary editor.
