Extract Last record

I have a text file which is occasionally appended. Each
record is separated by a carriage return. What I want to be able to
do is select the last record in the text file.
So assuming that the text file looked like this
Dod
Cat
Bird
Fish
So after I have read the file with CFFIle and set a variable
for the entire lits, how would I sextract the last entry
Fish?

If you have TAIL, you can use CFEXECUTE against the text
file. For windows based systems, you can install MINGW and MSYS to
get TAIL.
Note: If you run into timeout issues, You may have to change
the account that the CF service uses to log on with. There are
security issues with this and it may not be suitable for a shared
environment security wise.

  • How to fetch last record from the table to display in screen painter?

    Hi Gurus,
                  I have a requirement where i have to fetch the last record value in the table.
    I have a screen where the TEXT name is REQUEST and I/P field name is REQ and SAVE push button.
    In this I/P field automatically 1 should display when i excecute the program and when i save this, the request number should turn to 2 that is dynamically..once agin save then 3 and so on....and this 1, 2, 3 will be storeing in table.
    I have succeeded till generating the values dynamically and saving in the table like 1 is displayed and when i click save it is changeing to 2..but the problem is when i am coming out of program and logon again the request number is again displaying as 1 rather it has to start with 4 because already 3 request are there in the table.
    My code is...
    Table zsave.
    data declarations....
    data req type i.
    req = 0.
    req = zsave-req.
    PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT
    req = 0.
    select req into table fun_st from zsave.
    req = zsave-req.
    zsave-req = req.
    req = zsave-req + 1.
    PAI
    req = zsave-req + 1.
    zsave-req = req.
    when 'save'.
    wa_funst-req = zsave-req.
    Please can you provide me with the solution....answer will be rewared.
    THKS

    Can you tell me, when updaing the ZSAVE table with the counter value are you modifying the exisiting value or inserting the value as new record?
    From the code in your first post, i see that you are extracting records into internal table but when you are moving to variable REQ, you are moving from table work area which is blank, so everytime when you execute it may be starting as 0.
    Hope below code can help you understand on handling your requirement
    Global Declaration:
    >DATA: l_req TYPE i.
    PBO:
      SELECT MAX( req ) INTO l_req FROM zsave.
      l_req = l_req + 1.
    PAI:
      DATA: wa TYPE zsave.
      CASE ucomm.
      WHEN 'SAVE'.
        wa-req = l_req.
        INSERT zsave FROM wa.
      ENDCASE.

  • How do I extract matching records from two tables?

    I'm trying to extract client records from our client database to put together a very targeted email campaign. As an example, the result I want is a list of names and email addresses of those clients who have a record in our system, have not had a visit in our clinic in the last year, and live within 200 miles of our clinic. I can capture the first two criteria in one extract, and the second in another. I can then import those as tab delimited data into Numbers. What I then need to do is create a third table that represents ONLY those records that exist in both tables.
    Can someone tell me if this is possible and if so, how to do it?
    I'd be very appreciative of any help, thank you.

    You can create a column that generates a serial marker on the table from which you want to transfer the data, making all the names that also appear on the other table. Not that the formula will mark only exact matches.
    Here's a short example:
    Table 1 on the left, is one of the two tables imported from the tab delimited data files. It has other data, but only the names in column A are used to identify records appearing on both tables.
    Table 2 on the right, contains the names and other data (represented by the email addresses in column B), to be transferred to the third table.
    Column C of this table contains the formula that counts off the rows containing names appearing on both tables. The version below is in C2, and is filled down to the end of the column.
    =IF(COUNTIF(Table 1 :: $B,A2)>0,MAX($C$1:C1)+1,"")
    Note that jane Doe is not counted (or transferred) as her name is recorded differently on the two tables.
    Table 3 is the results table. It contains one formula for each column to be transferred from Table 2 to Table 3.
    A2:   =IF((ROW()-1>MAX(Table 2 :: $C)),"",LOOKUP(ROW()-1,Table 2 :: $C,Table 2 :: $A))
    B2:   =IF((ROW()-1>MAX(Table 2 :: $C)),"",LOOKUP(ROW()-1,Table 2 :: $C,Table 2 :: $B))
    Regards,
    Barry
    EDIT: I was working in Numbers '09 when developing this, and got the following warning when I saved a copy as an iWork '08 document:
    Referencing row or column ranges that include header or footer cells isn't supported. The formula references were updated to exclude header and footer cells.
    The formulas in Table 2::C2 references C1. You may have to ensure that Table 2 does not include a header row.
    B.
    EDIT2: A check on the file in Numbers '08 showed no apparent change to the formula, and editing Jane Doe's name on table 1 resulted in her name being added to Table 3.

  • Selecting last record in a date range

    I need to extract the last record for a group and display it. Normally this would simply mean selecting the max date in the SQL but...I need the last record from within a specified date range. By using the max date it won't pull out any records for a group that has a record after my date range. ie I have 2 group items and they both have a record for each day of the weekBy leaving the date open it pulls out the last record, Friday, for each item in the group.I want to set a range saying give me the last record from Mon - Wed.What I want returned is Wed's records and if there's no records on Wednesday the next last record for that itemSo If I have...Item Date    RecordA     MON     1A     TUE      2A     FRI       3B     MON    4B     TUE      5B     WED    6B     THUR    7B     FRI       8I get A     TUE      2 B     WED    6FYI CR XI with SQL 2005

    The database actually contains sample tests by date with each sample being tested multiple times over several months.I need to be able to pull a date range from the whole dataset, but I only want the last record in each date range. Samples can be tested every week or every 2 weeks and then the last record is used to show how the sample is doing over time. So you would run the report for say 3 weeks and show the last record for each sample. This wouldn't be a problem if you were only interested in the last 3 weeks data, but if you want to look at historical records you have to be able to pull from that date range. In effect the query has to work regardless of whether you ask for Mon-Fri (using my example above) or Mon-Wed or even just Mon alone. I'll give your example above a try and see how it goes

  • How to get the last record??

    Hi, I now have to get only the last record from one table
    from MS Access.
    I was looking for the useful method from API, however,
    I cannot get it.
    How to get only the last record from one table ???
    Please help, thanks.

    In RDBMS, row order is really not relavent by iteself. Meaning there is no such thing as 'last record' unless it's in the context of a column (e.g. timeStamp).
    Of course, rows are inserted and stored in some natural order, but you cannot assume they'll come back the same way in a 'Select *' as they were entered.
    So, if you mean last row as in last inserted row, I would add a timestamp field that's set at insert, or use a autonumber column. Either way, have a column that will always contain the highest number or newest timestamp, and then you can build your where clause from that.
    For instance, in Access, I have an autonumbered field called 'fred', with other columns. If I want the last record, I simply use the following:
    select * from atable where fred in (SELECT max(fred) AS Max FROM atable);
    the 'where in' clause will filter to only those records in the subsequent select statment, which of course is only one, the max of the column fred.

  • How to get the last record from the database

    I am using MS Access database and Swings as GUI. I want to get the last record of a particular column from the table and store it as a varaible.

    Hi
    To get Last record of resultset, you have pass some parameter in constructor of CreateStatement.In such case Resultset should be scrollable and Readonly
    Example
    objStatement=objCon.createStatement ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
    mwwResultSet=cwwStatement.executeQuery(mwwSqlQuery);
    while(mwwResultSet.next())
    if(mwwResultSet.isLast())
    //Fetch the required column record.
    String abc=mwwResultSet.getString(1);
    I think this will work. Try it.
    bye

  • Not enough space to print the last record on each page

    Hello,
    My report looks like a simple list table, with the first row as the column header, followed by rows of records.
    The fields are placed on the Detail section and they're set with "Can Grow" property. That means, records may have different row height, some may take 1 row per record, some may take 3 rows per record, depending on the data length. I use some vertical lines on the Detail section as the column seperators, and a horizontal line as the record seperator.
    I've a Page Footer to show the page number and print date.
    My problem is:
    When the space of the last record on the current page isn't big enough, the record will be printed automatically on the second page, which is fine. But the vertical seperation lines are still displayed even though the details are printed on the second page. I got some "empty rows with vertical seperation lines" or I'd say an open-end table at the end of some pages then.
    Is there a way to avoid this?
    Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.
    Agnes

    You could draw an outline box from page header to page footer, then your internal lines would run from page header to page footer
    so if the document extends to 2 pages, the page footer will print on the 1st page and therefore the bottom line of the box
    only problem now would be that on the 2nd page the box will extend to the bottom of that page also, even if there is only 1 record

  • How do I display last record in database?

    I have a asp guestbook form that I finally have working only

    Then you have no way of knowing which is the last record. You
    need an
    autonumber field or a date/time field in order to be able to
    sort the
    records so you know which one is the last.

  • Cursor not working properly.. Gives every record last records' entry.

    hi all.
    a simple one for someone I'm sure...
    Ive just added the cursor:

         SELECT sil.ORACLE_LOC_CODE
         FROM SU_TEMPLOYEE_DETAILS std, SU_IEXP_LOCATIONS sil
         WHERE std.STD_LOCATION_ID = sil.CHRIS_LOC_code;
    ..to the script I'll paste below in order to populate every record with whats in sil.ORACLE_LOC_CODE field.
    But, although it works fine when you have 1 record to run in, when several records are to be loaded in together, the script, although enters the records into ORACLE fine, populates every record with the same location code - whatevers in the last record (instead of treating each one individually). How can I fix this?
    Thanks for looking..

  • How to restrict the last record and not moving to next reocrd

    1) how to restrict the last record and not moving to next reocrd.
    2) Also for the F6 key(for new record).

    When you are on the last record, next-record will create a new one, so that my question is do you want to forbid new record creation.

    Hi,
    I look at the transaction ST22 to see which type of error has given you. Take a look at the notes to correct the error.
    Another option is to look at OSS notes, because the error is giving you a standard extractor.
    Greetings,

  • Select first and last records in grouped results - Oracle 11g

    Say I have the following information in an Oracle 11g table:
    Qty
    Production order
    Date and time
    20
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:02
    20
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:05
    20
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:07
    20
    00000000000000001
    13-JAN-14 00:09
    30
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:11
    30
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:15
    30
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:20
    30
    00000000000000002
    14-JAN-14 00:29
    I would like to write a query that would return the following:
    Qty
    Production order
    First
    Last
    80
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:02
    13-JAN-14 00:09
    120
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:11
    14-JAN-14 00:29
    That is, the sum of the Qty column grouped by Production order, and the date/time of the first and last records for each Production order.
    I came up with a query that yielded this result:
    Qty
    Production order
    First
    Last
    80
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:02
    14-JAN-14 00:29
    120
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:02
    14-JAN-14 00:29
    Which means that the First and Last columns show the overall first and last date / time of the whole table. Please note that this is a dummy table. Sorry I am now allowed to write the actual query
    I came up with since work policies do not allow me to share it. Also, I tried with windowing functions such as rank()and row_number() but my user does not have enough privileges to do so.
    Any help or hints will be greatly appreciated.

    Due to the fact that Oracle does not record the rows in any particular order, it would be wrong that the "first date" would be the first row processed by the query.
    Therefore you would have to supply some other column if you do not want to consider the table as ordered by date.
    Also, any analytical functions will need you to supply the "order by" and if its the date, then just a simple query will do:
    SQL>WITH Tab1 (Qty, Production_Order, Pdate)
      2       AS (SELECT 20, '00000000000000001', TO_DATE ( '12-JAN-14 00:02', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL
      3           SELECT 20, '00000000000000001', TO_DATE ( '12-JAN-14 00:05', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL
      4           SELECT 20, '00000000000000001', TO_DATE ( '12-JAN-14 00:07', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL
      5           SELECT 20, '00000000000000001', TO_DATE ( '13-JAN-14 00:09', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL
      6           SELECT 30, '00000000000000002', TO_DATE ( '12-JAN-14 00:11', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL

      8           SELECT 30, '00000000000000002', TO_DATE ( '12-JAN-14 00:20', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL
      9           SELECT 30, '00000000000000002', TO_DATE ( '14-JAN-14 00:29', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL)
    10  SELECT   SUM ( Qty), Production_Order, MIN ( Pdate), MAX ( Pdate)
    11      FROM Tab1
    12  GROUP BY Production_Order

    ii) fun_state_loc_other_details is also getting called 100 times. But I want this function to be called only for the last record that is 100th record.
    is there any way to do that?

    Thanks amatu.
    One more small query. Can I do it on condition based.
    Select state,
    local,
    fun_state_loc_other_details(19) details
    from state_local
    where pm_key=19
    Like if one state it need to be called once.
    AP -- 50 records
    UP - 20 records
    MP -- 10 records.
    fyi: this record no. varies
    I want the function to be called for AP once, UP once, MP once.
