Extract Multiple Audio Tracks from video

Can you help me???  I have a wedding video that has been recorded on camera using the camera's microphone as well as a separate audio microphone, thus giving two audio channels on the tape.  Am I able to split these down in imovie 08?  I understand how I can extract the main audio (which seems a little pointless)but I am not sure if IMovie 08 recognizes both audio channels.  If not I may have to learn Final Cut Express quickly!!!
Thanks in advance

Can I ask what QT Pro is?
Basically it is the QT Player application with the editing features "unlocked" for use. Apple charges about $30 for a code the will "unlock" a number of features (export of content, adding of tracks with or without scaling to other tracks or selected segments, the manipulating/setting of QT "properties" to include layering of audio and video, dimension scaling & placement of video content for display within the player display area, setting of audio channels, extraction/deletion of individual tracks, etc.). The features are very handy for "light" editing, creations of certain effects, conversion of content, and such. Some users would never have a need for it, others find it indispensable.
Here is a link that may give you some idea as to what it can do: QT PRO VIDEO TUTORIALS

  • Problems Sycing multiple Audio tracks with Video. Please help

I have a video clip from my Cannon 70D that im trying to sync with 2 seperate audio tracks from my Zoom. One LR stero track and one wireless mic track.
I select all three clips in the event windo and chose SYNC CLIPS from the clip menu. I take the Syncronized clip and place it in the time line , but when i go to expand audio there are only two track available - The scratch audio from the camera clip and what appears to the LR audio from the Zoom. Hard to tell though because Final Cut renames the Audio for me. I did notice that the sample rate on the video and audio files are different. Could that be the problem?

I haven't had much luck with SYNC CLIPS. I suggest you use Multicam instead.
Go to the Inspector and set up your Canon video as Angle 1. Set Zoom XY as Angle 2, and set Zoom wireless mic as Angle 3. Then Select the clips and FILE/NEW MULTICAM CLIP.

  • Workflow Suggestions for Getting Multiple Audio Tracks From Drum Machine

My goal is to make separate audio tracks from the MIDI output coming out of a hardware Boss DR-880 drum machine. It has nice drum samples that I would like to use. So far, I know how to split the output by MIDI notes as to create multiple tracks. I end up with a about 10 tracks which are all MIDI of course. What I want to do is end up with all audio tracks. This way I can set the levels and EQ to taste for each part of the drum kit.
What's the most straightforward way to achieve this goal? I tried bouncing in place but that only works for plugins -it's grayed-out for the post note split generated MID tracks. I also found a post on this forum with what I think is similar question but it's closed and the question was not clearly answered for a newbie like me.
So far I can do this:
    1. Record the MIDI output from the drum machine to an External MIDI track.
    2. I then split the MIDI track by note to get multiple MIDI tracks.
    3. To get audio I play each track individually e.g., just the kick drum and record the audio coming
out of the drum machine into an audio track.
This is a huge pain since I have on average about 10 MIDI tracks! There has to be a better way, right?
    Thanks!

    hi there:
ok now when u want to do such a thing which i totally understand what u are trying to do !so u have these options L
1- u should have a mixer to feed it with all your outputs from outboard gears like drum machines ,samplers etc...coz what u like in your dr-880 is the character of its sound and trust me if i tell you even if u tried to sample it and put it into any sampler software ,it will have the same sound but not the same character ! so thats why we still have samplers and out board gears and they will be still manufactured coz of that reason ...so for example i use my akai s6000 sampler which it has 16 outputs direct to my mixer so i can do what ever i want midi wise and audio wise with out any pain ,coz even if i have the same samples into my whatever sampler software i will never have the color and the character of the sound coming out from my akai ...and i use a drum machine which it has 10 outs as well and all is playing in sync in real trime with my audio tracks inside my logic ...this is the best solution !but i think u dont have that solution but u have to think about it if u bring a good console..!
2- you don't have to divide your midi from your machine you just do what ever its need to be done and when u finish record them one by one into your logic or 2 by 2 or what ever but in this case u cant control the midi of it anymore
but you gonna pain to do that every time coz sometime u dont have much time to think about u have to record the sound before any mix down!but it will work for you
3- make samples by your own of your drum machine and use esx24 to play them !but again you gonna lose the character of your sound but still having the same sounds u want ( if u know how do make a good samples).
i hope this tips gonna be useful for you .
    cheers..!:)

  • Importing multiple audio tracks from FCE HD

On page 22 of the FCE HD manual it says of importing Quicktime movies "...new audio tracks are added below the video track for EACH audio track in the movie". This does not seem to be the case when I import movies exported for Soundtrack. Is the manual wrong, or is it me?
Sorry if this is a FAQ, I've tried a lot of searches and I can't find anything.
G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   832 MB Ram, ATI Radeon 7000, Mercury Elite 1 Ghz

Ok - I'm back again. I've been fooling around a bit with this and this is what I have come up with. ST only allows 1 track in at a time. Multitracks of audio from FCE are flattened down which makes it impossible to tweak them individually in ST. I turned the link button off in FCE and exported the audio tracks one at a time. Each track you bring into ST has to be opened in a new ST project file. Then you can tweak them and export them out of ST, and bring them back into FCE.
My opinion however is that ST is such a weak and watered down verion of STP that it is actually better and more time efficient to use the audio tools in FCE to fix your audio problems and do your mix. Sure, if you have STP its a great program - but ST has none of the power tools that its big rother STP has. You are much better using FCE.

  • Getting multiple audio tracks from monaural clips

Hello, newbie here... just moved from Vegas Pro to Premiere Pro.
Having searched everything as advised, I still cannot find the answer to my question.
I shoot with the EX3. When I drag a MXF clip to the timeline, it automatically creates four audio tracks which it inserts in tracks 4 thru 7, leaving Audio 1 empty, and this is with a monaural recording!
Can anyone tell me, please, what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Harm, I understand what you're saying. Thanks for your input.
Bill, I read your article, but I'm not entirely sure I understood it. I will read it again.
My question is (see graphic below):
Why is PPro creating three extra tracks-5 thru 7? How do I stop this behavior?

  • Extracting an audio track from a DVD

I have a concert CD as well as the same concert on DVD. There is one track on the DVD which I would like to extract so I can add that one song into my iTunes Library. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

DVD ripping is a topic we can't discuss here. If you've got an elaborate enough setup, I don't think there's anything legally in the way of you connecting a DVD player's audio outputs to a capture device or interface on your computer and recording the audio stream that way (no DRM circumvention involved). I could do this with my home CD player and Apogee Duet, for example.

  • Converting Audio track from video

My niece has been singing in a choir for the last few years and my brother will post her performances/solos on youtube.com for the rest of the family to see. It has been a great way for us all stay together. I recently saw where you can download videos from youtube into itunes as movies, which I have done on a couple of his posts. What I wanted to know, is if there is a way for me to convert those video files (I think they are mpeg-4) into regular audio or songs? I would like to do this for two reasons, first, I thought it would be a nice way to allow my brother to put some of his daughters songs on his iPod (when I try this on my iPhone the videos are placed in the music folder and they don't mix with my other music), and second I was going to make a CD for our father who doesn't have an iPod.
Does anyone know if there is a way capture the audio from a video file?
    Thanks.

    Josh,
Good to know. Thanks. Sometimes I get confused on what works in which version. Glad that I do not have to deal with Avid and FCP in the course of the day. I still try to do things in AE, that I do int PrPro, and still get lost with the little differences in the GUI.

PS glad that 4.1 is looking good for you! Hope the joy continues.

  • How to extract one of several audio tracks from a .vob file?

    Hi guys,
hope you can help me, i'm looking for a solution for hours now but can't find one.
I would like to know how to extract one audio track from a .vob file when there are different tracks/languages on the dvd? Media encoder does it very well, but i can't find the option for choosing the right audio track/language for extraction. Please help
    Kind regards
    Alex

This is because the OMF specification requires mono audio files
It really depends on what you are trying to do with the two tracks as to the best answer as far as 'grouping'
You could select all the clips on both tracks and right mouse click and select 'group'
You could send both tracks to a bus
You could export the two tracks to a stereo file and bring that back into the session
Lots more things I'm sure but a little more detail as to what you are trying to do would help

  • How do I seperate the audio track from the video and save it to a CD in Premiere Elements 13?

How do I seperate the audio track from the video and save it to a CD in Premiere Elements 13?

    Binbashi
You can separate the audio track from video and save it to a DVD disc within Premiere Elements but not a CD disc.
To do save to the audio to DVD disc, you do not have to separate linked audio video, just use the export Publish+Share/Computer/Audio and set Presets to the wanted format (AAC, AIFF, MP3, or Windows Waveform (WAV).
You will not see Audio in the choices since it is at the bottom of the list of choices under Publish+Share/Computer/. You will need to use the thin scroll bar to the right of the choices to scroll to it.
If you need information on selective export of Timeline content when dealing with more than just this one file on the Timeline, please let us know. If you are trying to produce a CD for listening in car or CD player elsewhere, please let us know.
Looking forward to learning of your results.
    Thank you.

  • How to Delete several Audio clips from Video clips on Timeline of APPro CS5

I  would like to know how to delete multiple audio clips from Video clips at once in time line in APPro CS5? Please advice step-by-step procedure. I can DELETE audio from a single Video clip. But I wanted to DEL Audio from multiple video clips. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the advice given by Shooternz, Colin and Jim. Your help is much appreciated for a beginner like me... Jim's idea was also good..It worked for me and also safe if I need to use the original audio. Following method also found good...but previous audio clip cannot be extracted after deleting it. ... 1. Hold down "ALT" key first then select the first audio clip in the chain of video clips to Delete. 2. Hold down " Shift + Alt " keys together and click right mouse button on all audio clips to be deleted one by one. Make sure only audio clips are selected. 3. Then release ALT+Shift keys and then click right mouse button and select "Clear" from pull down menu to Delete all selected audio clips on the time line. This method works very well for me. Thanks for every one who has adviced me how to do it. Thanks guys... If u all find better method tha above...please inform us. Thx.

  • Quicktime Video Conversion Not Preserving Multiple Audio Tracks

    Hi All,
I'm trying to convert a H.264 video file to a ProRes MOV using quicktime pro 7.
This is a video file that was created using Handbrake.
In Handbrake I am able to rip several audio tracks from a VOB. In this case I need to rip both the 5.1 audio and 2.0 audio. Instead of splitting this up into separate exports, I can attach both audio tracks to the H.264 mov. I can view and edit them in the Properties window of the video in quicktime.
So what I'm starting with is a video file with two Audio tracks:
    5.1 Surround: C,L,R,Ls,Rs,LFE + 2.0 Stereo: L, R
What I'd like to do is unite the two audio files to create an 8.0 track: L,R,C,LFE,Ls,Rs,Lt,Rt
By changing the naming of the stereo track from L,R to Lt,Rt in the properties windown, an option appears in the audio export settings to use the SMPTE DTV audio output (L,R,C,LFE,Ls,Rs,Lt,Rt). But when I use it, assuming it will recognize my naming structure and rearrange the tracks according, the export results in a stereo file.
What am I doing wrong?? All logic makes me assume that this should work...
I should note that when I open the H.264 in quicktime the 5.1 audio track is not enables (or clicked on) in the properties tab. I must turn it on for quicktime to recognize it in the inspector window. However, when I try to save the video it requires me to save my file in an MOV container.
When I try to simply export the file as a 8 discrete channels, it will export with 8 channels, but the first two are a stereo pair and the other 6 are silent tracks.
The only way I've found to keep these audio tracks together is to extract each audio unit separately (5.1 and 2.0) and then add one of the audio tracks to the other using the copy and "Add to Movie" feature. This is not my preferred workflow since I'd like to keep the audio and video together. I'm creating a workflow that will be repeated several times so the more I can streamline this process the better.
Please help. Any ideas would be great.

I don't think Quicktime Pro is able to export individual audio tracks.  It sounds like Handbrake create an AC3 sound track and a 2.0 channel stereo track.  I don't think iMovie will handle multi-track audio and Final Cut Pro X won't let you assign audio channels to individual outputs.
If you have the original VOB file, DVDxDV Pro will break it out to individual audio channels into separate AIFF audio files which you can then import into Final Cut Pro 7 and remix the audio that way.

  • Video with Multiple Audio Tracks-- IOS 4.2 Removes Way to Select Them

After upgrading to IOS 4.2 on my iPhone 4, I've found it no longer lets me select from among multiple audio tracks. The option and button is completely gone.
I encode my videos with AC3 audio as the first track (for my home media devices), and stereo audio as the second track (for the iPhone). Now the iPhone will just play the video, with no audio, and no way to select another track. This is extremely frustrating as I've encoded all my DVDs this way, and never had any issue with playback like this on any IOS device going back to the first gen iPod Touch.
Anyone else have this issue, and know of a work around? Thanks!

I too have the exact same problem for the exact same reason. Did you ever figure out a workaround (other than reencoding all your videos)?

  • Creating Video with Multiple Audio Tracks?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question but I figured its compression/video codec related so someone might have an idea...
I've used Handbrake in the past to rip a DVD with an audio commentary that allowed for multiple audio tracks that could be played back in iTunes/Quicktime (though not on the iPod Classic for some reason... perhaps someone knows the answer to this?)
I was just curious as to whether or not this was possible to do WITHOUT first making a DVD with an 2ndary track? I was hoping to record audio commentary for one of my shorts, and put it up on the web, but wanted to avoid the step of going to dvd first then ripping it.
is this achievable in compressor? do I need to use a third party app? thanks so much.

    ehmjay wrote:
is there any app (be it from apple or a 3rd party tool) that will allow me to add a secondary audio track for switching in quicktime/iTunes? if so could you point me in the direction of it (or even instructions)
I'm afraid I'm unaware of anything - outside of HandBrake - that does encode a second track of audio. But I haven't exactly had my eyes open since I haven't needed to do this for a client yet.
handbrake mentinos that its able to rip secondary audio for use with iPod Classic/Apple TV... however so far it hasn't worked for me. Does this mean that while handbrake is doing it properly its just my iPod itself that's having the troubles (like I said that alt. audio is there in iTunes/Quicktime just not on the iPod itself)
I am pretty sure that the issue is that the software for iPod Classics - as is the case with AppleTV and, even, QT Player - which won't allow you to switch over to the other track. But I haven't had to work with the Classic in a while, perhaps there is a setting in Audio (or Video) that gives you the pop-up option you're seeking?
