Extracting Colors in Motion

Hi there,
I'm currently working on a new project where I did an interview with a guy who has a lot of tattoos on his arms and what I'm trying to achieve is to get all the footage in black and white expect all of his tattoos kept the original colors.
What filter would be best for achieving this effect. Any help would be great as I'm kind of stuck as in where to begin.
Thanks,
Andy

If the arms aren't moving to much then roto the arms if they are predominately covered in tats. If there are only a couple then roto each tat.
Keep in mind that if you've shot wide enough to see his head and all of his arms then a lot of the detail in the tats won't be seen and you can fudge the roto lines more on a wider shot.
Of course this all assumes the camera was stable. If not you could stabilize the shot first, roto, then return the original motion.

  • How to use IMAQ extract color panel in a LabView file?

    I want to change a color image into a greyscale image. Therefore I want to use the function IMAQ extract color panels but I don't know how to insert it in my LabView application.
    Please, can anyone give me some advice ?!!!
    Thx, Birgit

    Birgit,
    If you want all of the color planes, you can use IMAQ ExtractColorPlanes. Allocate an 8-bit image for each of the color planes. Wire the original color image and each of the 8-bit images for the color planes on the left and bottom of the vi. The outputs on the right side will be the same images, and they will each contain the desired color plane. The input at the top of the vi controls which color planes are extracted (RGB, HSI, etc.) Grayscale will probably be the I plane in HSI.
    If you just want a grayscale image, use IMAQ ExtractSingleColorPlane instead. Wire the color image to Image Src, and wire an 8-bit image to Image Dest. Select the color plane using the top input, and it will come out on the right side.

  • Extract color planes in vision assistant

    Hi!
    When i try to use the "find edges" step in vision builder ai, a message tells me that the step supports only grayscale 8 bit images, while mine is a color 32 bit. i shall insert a vision assistant step to extract color planes.
    But in the vision assistant, "the image is not accessible anymore", even though below in the box  there is the step "original image".  I can insert the image i want to work with with the step "get image", but then it works only with the one selected picture and doesnt cycle trough the folder.
    What did i do wrong?
    Sophia

    Hello Sophia,
    you can see the panel code for the vision assistant in the attachment.
    A cycle through the folder with vision steps is not possible (see Link).

  • Color ( or motion) on second computer - different  mac than Final Cut

    Hi,
    is there a way to install e.g. color or motion on a second computer and have Final Cut Pro send the clip/clips there for grading and back?
    Or does the 'send to color' only work for 1 mac?
    Thanks,
    Robert
    FCS2 in intel Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    "Send to Color" automates an xml path inherited from Final Touch. In theory, you should be able to Send to Color on your local machine to create the Color project, then transfer it to another machine as long as your media drives are mounted over the network. "Send to FCP" should still work when transferred back to your edit machine. Of course you'll need a licence for each, unless the drives are physically detachable. Not sure of the legalities of running FCP on one machine and Color on another with a single licence - in theory, you're not doubling up but I bet it won't let you.
    FT/Color uses Unix symlinks, not aliases, and you can cheat it to provide file paths to drives that have vanished if you need to revisit projects where media has moved.

  • Can't install Color or Motion

    Just installed Final Cut Studio but can't get Motion or Color on. I've used all the discs and no joy. I don't have a disc with Color on it which worries me. Tried to install from the Motion disc separately and it said successful install but couldn't find it on the system.
    Please help...

    Both the Color and Motion apps are installed from the 1st disk, ( Color may have installed; look in your applications folder for it) in fact all of the actual applications are installed from that 1st disk... the motion disk just installs the templates...
    What is the spec of your graphics? If they don't meet the minimum as posted in the specs of Studio, Motion won't install, because it relies heavily on your graphics processor.
    The spec for Motion is: A standard or built-to-order system configuration with a ATI Radeon 9600, 9700, 9800, X800, X1600, X1900, or X2600 class graphic card.
    But that all said, didn't you check on all of the installs from that first disk? You can select them to install or not...if you don't see color or motion, then try installing them again from that first disk.

  • Changing color in motion template "Pulse"

    Just installed new FCS and I am working with the motion template "Pulse". I can change the background color but cannot figure out how to change the yellow animated circles/graphics. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Nice example Alan!
    rodolfo68 - Alan's tip is perfect for simple color changes, but as an additional tip, you can also select the Behavior and in the Inspector, where it says Add, you can select the Glow>Color option. From here you can either change the color, or start to animate it as part of the behavior.

  • From FCP7. COLOR before MOTION?

    Should I color correct before exporting to Motion 4 for graphics?
    Could use a little help on the workflow best practices... Thanks.

    TYPICALLY Color Correction is done as the final stage. BUT, in the case of shots that go to graphics...say out of house to a graphics shop where they send you back a fully rendered file, you might color correct before you give it to them. Or THEY will color correct it. But best if you do so you know what you want. OR they send a temp, then you upres, color correct, then send a final that they replace in their comp and send back.
    That might be the thing to do...as you said you are upconverting in the end. Don't color correct the low res.

  • Command: extract color pallette from image

    Hiyas,
    I remember being able to run a command, proably an extension,
    to extract all the colors in an image, and paste them nicely in a
    what looked like a color sample format in a new image. Essentially
    it was describing all the colors in the image, with a square of
    color, along with the hex values of each color.
    I can't remember what this command is, or where it can be
    found.
    Can you help?
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Pdf Extract Color Info

    Hi guys,
    How do i know which is the exact color of this font? I did touch up tool>Properties and i see the color but not its RGB or CMYK composition. Here is a picture.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=17OJ5HdLQPt1WRIF5JcbWn3GR3PR
    Thanks for any info!
    Cheers,

    Use the select tool,
    Copy the text, and paste it in Microsoft Word
    Then you can just select the text in Word, right-click and select Font.
    In the Font dialogue window, Click on the font color and select More Colors, you'll get the RGB value of the font color.

  • Is color management in Motion causing me grief?

    I'm stumped after looking through support docs and here in the forums, but I'm having problems getting correct color to come through on objects/layers. Here's my problem at a base level (it has other manifestations):
    1. Add a color solid (solid1) set colors to R: 205 G: 5 B: 253
    2. Add a new color solid (solid2), shifted up in the frame so solid1 is visible. Click on color swatch for solid2.
    3. Sample the color on solid1 to apply to solid2
    Shouldn't these two color solids match? They don't. I get R: 205 G: 6 B: 233
    I figure this must be some color match issue......solid1 is fully opaque with no strange blending modes and such. For instance this also happens if you set the background color and try to match the background color.
    Motion also seems to be changing the color of bitmapped graphics I bring in as well.

  • Convert images from 24 bit RGB to 8bit and get the best colors

    Hi,
    I use this to do the conversion:
    BufferedImage img2 = new BufferedImage(img1.getWidth(), img1.getHeight(), BufferedImage.TYPE_BYTE_INDEXED);
    ColorSpace colorSpace = img2.getColorModel().getColorSpace();
    ColorConvertOp convertOp = new ColorConvertOp(colorSpace, null);
    convertOp.filter(img1, img2);
    But the colors from img2 does not match with those from img1.
    I guest that it uses a default 256 colors, instead of extracting colors from original images.
    I read about a intermediate conversion to CS_CIEXYZ color space and then to an output colorspace, but i don't now how to code it.
    Clould provide an example of how to do this?
    Many thanks for any help, and duke dollars for the best of them,
    Eugen

    I read about a intermediate conversion to CS_CIEXYZ
    color space and then to an output colorspace, but i
    don't now how to code it.I don't think that's going to help, because I bet your original ColorSpace is sRGB and so will be the ColorSpace of the IndexColorModel.
    1. You are right, the colors used with TYPE_BYTE_INDEXED are default colors. Here is a snippet from the source code:
    // Create a 6x6x6 color cube
    int[] cmap = new int[256];
    int i=0;
    for (int r=0; r < 256; r += 51) {
        for (int g=0; g < 256; g += 51) {
            for (int b=0; b < 256; b += 51) {
                cmap[i++] = (r<<16)|(g<<8)|b;
    // And populate the rest of the cmap with gray values
    int grayIncr = 256/(256-i);
    // The gray ramp will be between 18 and 252
    int gray = grayIncr*3;
    for (; i < 256; i++) {
        cmap[i] = (gray<<16)|(gray<<8)|gray;
        gray += grayIncr;
    colorModel = new IndexColorModel(8, 256, cmap, 0, false, -1, DataBuffer.TYPE_BYTE);2. If you want to use different colors in the ICM, I can imagine a couple strategies:
    a. You know the colors you want to use: use them!
    b. Your original image only has a few colors: sample the image to find out what those colors are.
    c. You have no idea what colors are in your image and how many there are, but you want to try to choose a palette that reflects its composition: for example, if your image is a sunset, your palette will have many colors in the spectrum from yellow->orange->red. Good luck! Perhaps create a collectiom of color "buckets" representing a neighboorhood around a color. For example (R,G,B) = (100,120,45) +/- 5 in each component. Then sample the image. If a bucket is empty you don't need that color; if a bucket is "overflowing" perhaps you need to subdivide the bucket into subbuckets with smaller neighboorhoods (I'll say it again: good luck!)

  • Trouble Sampling Colors with Eyedropper Tool: InDesign CS5

    Hey everyone,
    My name is Quin, and I've used InDesign CS5 for the past few years and am working on a magazine layout for the first time. I'm suddenly having a really difficult time getting the eye-dropper tool to extract color samples from images i've placed in my layout. These are either jpeg or PDF images. If I recall correctly, in my past use of the program, i could simply click the eyedropper tool in an image and get my color sample – but suddenly, i'm having trouble getting it to sample color/make a color swatch.
    I tried double clicking the tool and excluding everything i wouldn't want it to sample. Tried locking/unlocking layers, tried making sure the image frame itself is selected, tried holding down option, tried trashing the preferences (using a 2012 MacBook Air with the latest version of OS X Mountain Lion)… most of the time when i attempt to sample a color, nothing shows up in the fill box, except the classic diaognal red line over white.
    The exception is when i use the eyedropper to sample non-image base things i've already filled, like a retangle, it picks up the color fine. So it's likely image specific. Is there something really obvious that i'm missing? It's frustrating because i simply want to sample colors to get a rough idea for text colors and headlines that can match images, and there doesn't seem to be a quick way to do this…
    Thanks so much for the help!
    -Quin

    Quin, I just had a eureka moment! I was having the exact same problem,  unable to sample color from images with the eyedropper tool, and when I sampled text to apply formatting, it strangely applied a black rule around the new text. The problem was intermittent, with the tool both working  and not working within the same document. I finally realized the tool was  misbehaving when sampling an item on the document, but worked fine when sampling images or text on the pasteboard.
    So, the document I'm working on is an ad with a 1pt rule around the border. I have the border on it's own layer at the top level, and locked, so I can select items on the ad without the border getting in the way. What I found is, even though it's locked, the eyedropper tool is sampling the border from that layer!
    I tried turning off  stroke  settings in the eyedropper options just gave my text a fill of 'none.' Turning off both stroke and fill settings had no effect on the new text at all. I tried unlocking the layer and just locking the border on it's own, but it still picked up the formatting from the border.
    The only thing that worked is to hide the layer! Turn off the layer 'eyeball' and see if that works for you.

  • Help with changing a font color in a live font

    I have motion 1 or studio 5 crossover. I added a live font to my canvas can can't get the color of the font to change. the font i am using is called "cool" and it is a default red. I have changed my color in the dashboard and even in the inspector, but it will not let me change red. even changing the RGB will give me variations of red. Funny, but I can change the color of the outline, drop shadow and glow of this same font. Bug? or am I missing something?

    The only way I know of to change a livefont color in Motion is to apply an HSV filter to the text and rotate the hue around til you get the color you like...
