Extracting files fails

Hi all,
I am having a Windows 7 workstation in a Domain environment. The domain servers are all Server 2012 R2.
I receive zip files from multiple clients, most of them containing several pdf documents.
When I save that zip file to the project network drive (1 of the servers in the domain) and then unzip the file with the windows built-in extraction tool, most of the times not all files are extracted from the zip to the network folder.
When I retry, it sometimes works, sometimes I have to try 2 or 3 times. When i extract on my local hard disc it always works the first time.
Hope you can help me out, I have to do this many times a day.
Thanks
Jeroen

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies.
I do not have error messages, it looks likes the task completes normally, but when i compare the content of the zip file with extracted files, there are not the same number of files.
Unfortunately I cannot be more precise then "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't", that is exactly what happens, so far i am unable to see any similarities whenever it fails.
I will check for unstable network performance during the coming unzips.
Of course we considered scripting, but this process will be done by multiple users, to different network locations. All users with Windows 7 experience the problem. The windows 8.1 users have no problems.
Thank you all.

  • J2se 1.4.2 Installation Errror 'failed to extract file'

    Hi,
    I am running windows 2000 and am trying to install the J2SE v 1.4.2, SDK and keep on getting this error in the install shield:
    "Failed to extract file 'dll.ini' from binary table"
    I would be grateful if you could help me out why I am getting this error.
    Thanks in advance,

    did you ever get this solved? I am having the same problem. I also tried the jdk and got the same error so it's likely not a download problem.

  • Error 101- Installer won't extract files, manual 7z unzip fails, plenty of hard drive space

    PC, Windows 7 64-bit. Dual hard drive setup, primary dirve has 7 free GB. Downloading trial to second hard drive, has 466GB of free space. Download taking 24 hours each try.
    First try: Error 101- Could not extract files, check for sufficent disk space and reset download. Cleared off 6 more gigs of space on my primary drive incase that was causing the error. Restarted download.
    Try #2: Same error. I dug around and found the full download .7z file. Tried everything to unzip, but every 7zip program I tried gave me an error, said it wasn't an "archive' file.
    Restarted Adobe download assistant, got a pop up that said roughly "do you want to retry the current download, click yes to retry, click no to start over" I clicked Yes. It started over. I slammed head on table.
    Now have 20 hours remaining on my third attempt at downloading. Maybe we can get this fixed before the error message shows up again?

    Whenever you delete caches it's a good idea to restart the computer so they can be properly rebuilt. So start by doing this:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • J2se installation - failed to extract file 'Dll_.ini' ..

    Hello,
    i've got following message during installing j2se 1.4.2_04 on windows server 2003:

    i've installed java based on the same file on my local system (windows 2000) - works fine!

    MAKES ME BLOOD BOIL...!
    I had also downloaded this:
    Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language (j2re-1_4_2_05-windows-i586-p.exe)
    It had installed (same login and same profile) OK on 2 PCs (HP and Compaq) Windows XP SP1 but gave this same error (below) on 2 x W2K SP4 (Windows 2000 Service Pack 4) machines (1 Compaq PC, 1 Dell Laptop) :
    "Failed to extract file 'Dll_.ini' from the binary table."
    That's after I discovered that Microsoft had REMOVED ALL msjavwu.exe 5.00.3810 from its web sites which was THE LAST RESORT to update Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 with the safety patch. (Critical update to Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (MSJVM) version 5.00.3810)
    So I was left with W2K SP4 IE6 SP1 with JAVA NOT WORKING or WITH A SECURITY HOLE!
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH SUN AND MICROSOFT...!
    I've patched MSJVM since (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1050022631/1) but it took me 3 DAYS to sort out what should have taken (max) an hour's work !!!
    I still haven't solved the J2RE v1_4_2_05 problem as I've just discovered this page AND my end-users won't let use their machines (W2K SP4 Compaq PC & Dell Laptop) again for a long while yet (since Java works) !
    Read a very good article about Java Problems: http://www.mcse.ms/message1062959.html entitled "XP SP2 and Sun Java Plugin" but applies to any Java and any Windows.

    Problem:
    I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard. Everything worked fine for a month. To free up disk space I deleted some of the iPhoto flders (modfied and original images). Everything worked still fine. Shut down the computer. Next day it was incredibly slow. At the same time the indexing was running. I stopped indexing, but stll slow. Every operation took minutes. I tried all the tricks that I found in the internet (repaired file permissions, repaired disk, cleared PRAM , moved big filed from desktop, etc.). After 24 full hours of trying all this I decided to erase the hard drive and reinstall, directly from the Snow Leopard Install disk, but it fails after downloading the packages. Below is the part of the log. Then I tried to use the old Leopard install DVD to reinstall Leopard, it then sais estimated time 12 hours or so and eventually crashed, spitting out a lot of "reportcrash" in the log. What is going on? I'm running out of options. Any advice? Would zeroing the hard drive help? If nothing else I plan to buy a new hard drive, since the only explanation I have is that there is a problem with the hard driven although the disk utility says it is OK. I need a bigger one anyway. Any ideas? Thank you!

    It sounds to me like your Internal Hard Drive is failing.
    I recommend you buy a new one, that is a good candidate for replacing the old one, but install it in an External enclosure and Install a fresh Mac OS X on it from the DVD. You can boot your Mac from any attached drive.
    The new System can be used to get some work done, check your emails, and takes the pressure off resolving this immediately. You can also attempt to salvage files off the old drive if needed.
    Once things seem to be working, then move the new drive inside the computer. Failures at this point may be due to bad cable, which has been a problem in some of these MacBooks.
    Use security erase, write Zeroes, one pass, to re-write every block on the old drive. Any block discovered to be bad will be replaced with spares the drive holds in reserve for this purpose. If more than 10 blocks are pared on one pass, "Initialization Failed!" will be the result. Although you can try the erase again, there is some question whether you want to trust this drive with your precious data.

  • Zip.ZipInputStream cannot extract files with Chinese chars in name

    Dear friends,
    Peace b upon u!
    I am trying to read a zip file (~3000 files)containing one
    or more files with Chinese, Japanese or Korean names, the
    getNextEntry method throws an IllegalArgumentException as below after extracting just ~300 files as below:-
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException
            at java.util.zip.ZipInputStream.getUTF8String(Unknown Source)
            at java.util.zip.ZipInputStream.readLOC(Unknown Source)
            at java.util.zip.ZipInputStream.getNextEntry(Unknown Source)
            at testZipFiles.getZipFiles(testZipFiles.java:65)
            at testZipFiles.main(testZipFiles.java:18) issue:java.util.zip.ZipInputStream cannot extract files with Chinese chars in name
    Category java:classes_util_jarzip
    Plz let me know 1 of the ways which I can solve this issue.
    1)if someone has JAVA DCOMPILER plz send the SOURCE Code
    for the ZipInputStream.class to me..I need to edit it using 1 of the solutions as provided below which I googled.
    2)If there is an alternate or upgraded java.util.zip.ZipInputStream or any org.apache.tools.zip.* package which can read such files..If yes where I can download the same on net.
    3)Any other easier solution, which can let me extract all files (by excluding Chinese files thru CATCH) without the extractor process to fail altogether.
    On net I found that the only solution with this is:-
    - edit the new ZipEntry, remove the static initializer that calls
    the native methods initIDs().
    this step seems a bit scary, but it's according to the
    workaround
    to bug #4244499 (the workaround of Olive64, THU JUN 05
    01:55 P.M. 2003),
    that handles a similar bug at the ZipOutputStream.
    Now you have a ZipInputStream that supports multi-bytes
    entry names.
    to extract the zip file, using the fixed code that is offered
    above,
    create a function that gets an "encoding" string, a "destPath"
    string
    and a "sourceFile" (zipped) and does :
    ZipInputStream zipinputstream = null;
    ZipEntry zipentry;
    zipinputstream = new ZipInputStream(new FileInputStream
    (sourceFile),encoding);
    zipentry = zipinputstream.getNextEntry();
    while (zipentry != null) { //for each entry to be extracted
        String entryName = zipentry.getName();
        int n;
        FileOutputStream fileoutputstream = new FileOutputStream
    ( destPath + entryName );
        while ((n = zipinputstream.read(buf, 0, 1024)) > -1)
            fileoutputstream.write(buf, 0, n);
        fileoutputstream.close();
        zipinputstream.closeEntry();
        zipentry = zipinputstream.getNextEntry();
    }//while
    zipinputstream.close();

    Hi friend,
    We'd better to ask one question in each thread. If you have another issue, you can consider to open up a new thread in this forum.
    Now for the first question, do you mean this picture? It throws access exception in archive2.
    If so , because your extractPath is a path, not a directory.You should add +"xxx.zip". For more information, please refer to
    ZipFile.Open
    Method (String, ZipArchiveMode).
    For the second question, you can use the following code to skip the error message.
    while (true)
    try
    //do something;
    catch (Exception ex)
    { continue; }
    Good day!

  • ITunes v10.6.1.7 "Copying files failed. The File name was invalid or too long."

    I'm trying to organize my music files using iTunes 10.6.1.7 and I keep getting the error message "Copying files failed. The File name was invalid or too long."
    I've got music folders by artist in both the iTunes Music folder and the iTunes Media/Music folder. When I add certain files by drag/drop they sometimes get lost and I don't want that to happen anymore. I used to just consolidate my music files using the File/Library/Organize Library option and that worked, however now when I do that, I get the error message.
    I'm a novice and the only online stuff I see is both confusing and refers to earlier versions of iTunes.
    My concern is that I have heard that people lose entire libraries of their music when they trry to fix things like this and I don't want that. If this is of any importance, I have several files called iTunes library and temp library. I have no idea what that all means but I'm scared to death of it.
    Also, I can't get to the "re-organize library" link at all. It won't let me.
    One thing that be of some interest is that when I pull up the properties of the music and media/music files they are marked "read only" I'm also afraid to touch that!
    Please help and please know that I am a dummy. Be kind and be clear. Step by step would be great, with images even better. Thanks.

    Perhaps nobody knows the answer? We're fellow users here answering questions in our free time when we think we've something useful to contribute.
    You can choose to *Consolidate selected tracks* with a right-click menu. Perhaps if you can identify a specific track that won't consolidate and examine the full path to the file & the path that iTunes would create when it consolidates the problem might become apparent. For example iTunes may not be able to move files if the source or destination path length exceeds 255 characters.

  • Moving library to external hard drive and get the error "Copying files failed. The disk could not be read from or written to"

    Hello,
    I'm moving my library to an external hard drive.
    I've made sure to use the 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized' option when pointing to the new library location.
    I select 'File'->'Library'->'Organize Library', I select to 'Consolidate Files', click 'OK' and get ther error message "Copying files failed. The disk could not be read from or written to".
    I've read elsewhere that there may be a corrupted file that I need to sequester somehow and perhaps add it back however I'm not certain how I can locate that file because the status window doesn't indicate which file it's attempting to transfer when the error appears.
    Any tips?
    Thank you,
    Greg H
    iTunes 10.6.3

    OK I figured it out!
    It was a dodgy file....I sorted the file folders by date, and as it turned out within the "compilations" folder there was a CD where only about half the tracks seemed to have been copied over. Could not have identified this simply from the time indicated on the finder folder sort, because there were several CDs copied over in the that same minute.
    I went back to the original itunes folder, deleted all the files from that CD in itunes, then also deleted all those files from the original disk and the target disk.
    Tried the "consolidate library" again, and it completed nicely. 200megs of music and videos.
    Very happy to solve this problem after 3 weeks.

  • Itunes wont consolidate becuase "copying files failed...."

    itunes wont consolidate because "copying files failed. The file name was invalid or too long." why to i get this error message and how do i fix it? I am using itunes 9 on a dell windows xp laptop. i am trying to consolidate the library but it does not work becuase of the error message. please help. Thank

    I'm having similar problems, but Katrina S's suggestion didn't work for me. From my desktop, I'd transferred my music files to an external USB hard drive and the library database files to my laptop. iTunes plays perfectly, but I get the same error message when I try to consolidate. I changed permissions on the external drive and on the iTunes library folder, when needed, to make sure either my user logon or an administrator (which includes me) had full permissions. Still can't consolidate, though. CarolynOtt, did you find a solution yet?

  • Copying files failed. An unknown error occurred (-50)

    I currently have a PC (Samsung Q330 running Windows 7) and I am getting a Macbook Pro in a few days! Therefore I am transferring my iTunes (10.6) library to an external hardrive (Hitachi X250). While I was doing this I received an error message that read “Copying files failed. An unknown error occurred (-50)”. Therefore I was wondering, how the heck do I fix this???
    What I have done.
    I have gone in to “Advance Preferences”.
    I have changed the “iTunes Media folder location” to my external hardrive.
    I have the following two option selected “Keep iTunes Media folder organized” and “Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library”.
    Then I go to File> Library> Organize Library. Then I select “Consolidate files” then I press the “OK” button.
    Then about half way in or so I get a pop up that reads “Copying files failed. An unknown error has occurred (-50).
    As you can see iTunes is not working. Could anyone help me???
    Thanks in advance, Donald Louch!

    Hmm... you may find iTunes is still connected to some files in the original location rather than the new one. You can check with my script Unconsolidated. If that is the case the script ConsolidateByMoving ought to switch the connection to a file already in the correct place however I'm currently working on a new build so the behaviour of the live version might be slightly different.

  • When trying to 'Consolidate Files' via iTunes I get the message "Copying files failed. The name was invalid or too long."

    I am trying to copy my entire iTunes library and everything in it from my PC Desktop to my PC Laptop using the "External Drive" method as shown on the Apple website. On Part 1 (5) I am told to consolidate files. When attempting to do this I get the message "Copying files failed. The file name was invalid or too long."
    How do I resolve this?

    I have just been having this problem and it has been driving me mad.   The error message doesn't tell you which file is causing the problem so you can't fix it and it leaves your libray in a state of limbo with some files copied into the new location and some in the old location.  After many hours I found a surprisingly quick and simple solution.
    1) in iTune create a smart play list that includes everything that was added before tomorrows date.  This will include everything.
    2) Right click this playlist and export it as a text file to produce a tab delimited file.
    3) Import this into a spread sheet, or just view it in a text editor with line wrap turned off.  What you are interested in is the last column (or end of the line in a text editor).  This gives you the path of the file associated with each entry in the library.
    The path of the files that have already been copied successfully will start with the new location for your media files you specified.  Scroll thru the rows until you get a blank path.  If you start getting paths starting with the old Media file location then you went to far and start scrolling back.
    The row with the blank path was the file that failed.  Move back to the start of the row to find out more about it.  In my case it was a podcast with a very long name. I just deleted that podcast from iTunes.
    4) Restart the consolidation by choosing File, Library as you did before and the process starts again where it left off.
    5) If it fails again on another file just repeat the process
