Extracting iDVD off Tiger Install Disc

I have an iBook without a SuperDrive. Just purchased an external DVD burner. How do I extract iDVD off the install discs since iDVD is not an application on my iBook as yet?
Thanks.

If you're referring to a purchased copy of Tiger then iDVD won't be on it. If iDVD came with your computer you will have to get it off the discs that came with it. • Superdrive will read Tiger Install Disc, but not DVD's

I recently had my hard drive crash, so I installed a new one because I didn't have time to wait. The installation went fine, but now when I try to install Leopard, it won't read any DVD's, so I had to install TIger back on my Macbook. Are there any reasons that when I installed a fresh new hard drive that would make my superdrive need some other update or something, because it won't read DVD's?
    Thanks

    Hello smp450!
No, the new HD only needed to be reformatted for your Mac. Your original grey-label Tiger Install Discs are also DVDs, same as Leopard.
You may have missed the answer you received from Smokerz in your previous thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6686146#6686146
Now that you've installed the original Tiger OS onto your new HD, are you able to use the Leopard DVD to upgrade? If so, then there is no longer a problem, right? If there is still a problem, where did you purchase the Leopard DVD?

  • Can't boot off System Install Disc

I'm trying to boot off what I think is my original system install disc to run disc utility. When I do the dvd spins up for a minute, stops and the computer only displays a blank grey screen. The System Install disc is version 10.5. The computer, an intel i7 iMac, is running system 10.6.6. I also tried booting off the Snow Leopard install disc but had the same problem.
I'm trying to run disc utility off the install disc because I've been having problems with the machine, ran disc utility of the HD, and got the "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X Install disc0, and then use Disc Utility to repair this disc"

Check the disc to make sure they are not dirty. Either disc will do the job, but the 10.6 is better, of course.
Try this: Boot the iMac normally and insert the disc. When it mounts, open the disc image and start the installer. It will ask you to restart. When it restarts you will be prompted to select a language. In the next window you can cancel the installer and open the disc utility to do your repairs.

  • Can I use my Tiger install disc on more than one computer

I have a Powermac G4 15" and an imac G4 17". The p-mac has Tiger and the Imac has Panther. Can I use the install disc that came with the p-mac to install Tiger on the imac?
    Thanks for a great forum!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
PowerMac G4s never were 15". Don't you mean Powerbook G4 15"? If you mean Powerbook G4 15" and it came with Tiger, then the answer is no, as my FAQ explains:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html#SYSTEMSPECIFIC
If you mean a PowerMac G4 with a 15" Apple LCD, it may have come with an older operating system. Use the articles I link to on:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#IDENTIFY
    to identify your Mac.
    And use
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
to determine which operating system came with that Mac.
If both machines came with pre-Mac OS X 10.4, they can use a Mac OS X 10.4 Family pack if they meet specs for the installation.

  • Need to reformat. Missing Tiger Install disc.

I've been having multiple problems with my G5 for the past few days.
Here's a list in chronological order:
I came back from a vacation and my Mac took an incredibly long time to load up. Any program I tried to open either failed or took almost 10 minutes to open. Everything in the top right corner menu (time, airport) has been missing since then too.
Ran a hardware test, said everything was fine. Ran the usual verify/repair disk permissions. Said the HD couldn't be repaired.
I attempted to run a Mac OS software update, but it says it cannot be installed.
On top of that, when I plug my iPod into the mac, the computer recognizes it, however iTunes does not. I restored my iPod but that didn't work and now I have no music on it. (it is not in disc mode either.)
I've backed up everything as far as I know (Users, apps, etc.) and I want to reformat the drive. I cannot find my Tiger OSX Install Disc and only have my Panther OSX. Is there a way to reformat without having to reinstall the OS, and if not, will installing Panther cause problems?
I know that was lengthy, but I'd appreciate ANY help anyone can offer on any of those problems.
    Thanks.

To be more specific from my first post:
When I run "verify/repair disk permissions" Disk Utility freezes. When I use "Verify/Repair Disk" I get this message:
    Verify:
    "Invalid node structure
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
    Volume check failed.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)

    Repair:
    "Keys out of order
    Rebuilding Catalog B-tree
The volume could not be repaired
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)"
When running the Extended Hardware Test, I recieve an error message for Memory. this error message appears in the same window:
"Error code Error Code 2/MEM/102/4: DIMM6/J43
When I try to install the OS software update, I get this error message:
"The Update "Mac OS X Update (Power PC" Can't be installed.
    Sorry, an unexpected error occurred.
The Installer package has been moved to the Trash. To try again, open the package from the Finder."

  • Original 10.4 Tiger install disc keeps ejecting

    Hello,
I am trying to re-install my 2007 white MacBook to its original state so I can sell it.  It currently has Lion installed, when I insert the original Apple 10.4 Tiger CD/DVD into the super drive the disc just keeps ejecting.  All other discs work and the install disc does not eject from my MacMini.
    Why is this happening?
How can I get Tiger installed on it from the original disc?
Many thanks in advance for any help provided.

When trying to boot with a disc, it's say that the disc isn't compatible with your machine.  ( I thing strongly. )
After you start up the machine normally,  can you insert the disc?
You can manually delete things.  You might miss a few things but you should get most.
    Robert
    start by deleting your id:
    Create new Account
    blue apple > system preferences
    clicks on accounts icon
click on lock icon if locked.
    enter logon password
click on + icon ( left side of screen just above the lock icon )
after creating new account, you need to logout of your current account.
blue apple > log out ... current count name ...
log on to new account. see if problem goes away.
if it has gone  away rename finder preference ( Not sure of name ) ... reboot.

  • I can't get my mac to boot off the install discs

I'm trying to boot off of the install disc, but I can't get the computer to even see it. I've tried the c, d and options keys. I've repaired permissions. I don't seem to have a firmware password. When I hold down d it tests and finds no problems with the hardware. When I hold down c it goes straight to the hard drive. When I hold down the option key during restart the only option it gives me is the hard drive - no disc. I've tried two different keyboards, one of which is a mac. I'm using disc 1 of the two disc set to install mac os x that came with the computer when I bought it. I've also tried disc 2 (since I've been trying everything I can think of.)
I'm out of ideas. Help appreciated.

If you were able to boot from the d key to the Hardware Test (for a G5, this should have been from the second disc -- but you don't mention how you got to the AHT) that rules out a bad optical drive or firmware password. The only thing, then, that comes to mind is a damaged install disc, disc one.

  • Tiger Install Discs

    Hi.
Does anyone know where I can get retail discs for Tiger? I've got an old iMac which won't run Leopard so I want to get Tiger on it.
    Thanks
    Chris

Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available from Apple. For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.

  • Tiger Install disc copy

I have 3 G4s, and the problem here is that I want to upgrade my Quicksilver 733 MHz from Panther to Tiger.
I'm trying to install my copy of OS 10.4 , an install disc copy of the OS that came with my second MDD when I bought it second hand, and which, by the way was used to upgrade my first MDD from Panther.
The QS, which was given to me, accepted an upgrade using my OS 10.3 install disc, But what happens when I try the Tiger disc copy is that although I can see the package, and a dmg opens with the install icon, It always returns to just that, no matter what I try - restarting with C key, clicking on the install icon,or attempting to restart with disc from System Preferences. I'm not able to install.
Is there a workaround? Worst comes to worse, could I clone Tiger from the machine it works on and somehow apply it to the QS?
    many thanks,
    K

You have to buy a retail (black) Tiger install DVD.

THe install disc that ships with a MDD will only work with a MDD.
and which, by the way was used to upgrade my first MDD from Panther.
and which, by the way, violated the license agreement.
    Is there a workaround?
    Yes; buy the correct disc.

  • Tiger install discs not mounting

    Hi folks,
My girlfriends G4 Powerbook (867mhz) has been playing up, sluggish, kernal panics etc.
The usual maintenance/troubleshooting has made little difference.
I suggested she re-install Tiger, however her Tiger discs won`t mount (other discs are fine).
Q: Can I use the install disc that came with my G5dual 2.7 ?
    Cheers

I'm assuming you're trying to use machine specific disks (gray in color) with the G4. Apple changed how the bundled disks are made starting with Tiger. The disks check to see if the hardware matches the Mac they came with. If not, they won't work.
In order to install Tiger on her G4, you'll have to purchase a retail, commercial copy of Tiger.

  • Creating Tiger Install Disc

    Hello.
Just recently I sent my iBook in to Apple to get the HD replaced. When it came back, it was loaded with Tiger, and not Panther (which was originally installed). I'm just wondering whether or not it is possible to create an install disc, or maybe a backup disc, that would put Tiger back on the iBook if something came up in which I had to erase the HD.
    Thanks

Buy the Tiger DVD from Apple. Or you can purchase a Firewire external hard drive and use Disk Utility to clone your iBook's drive to the external hard drive.

  • Apple Hardware Test : Use original Tiger Instal disc, or new Leopard disc?

    Hi,
I'm STILL trouble shooting my slow iMac. I figure this may point me in the general right direction.
My question is if my computer came with Tiger, and Leopard is now installed, which startup disc should I use?
    thanks

    Hi:
Try the OS X 10.5 DVD (boot while holding down the "D" key). I have, frankly, never tried to run an "old" hardware test on a "new" computer, but nothing should be harmed by trying.
Incidentally, slow is usually software-related not hardware-related.

  • Black MacBook won't boot off OS Install Disc!

    Hi all,
Just wanting to help out a friend here (who is not really knowledgeable in the area of fixing Mac faults)
The product in question is a Black MacBook (MacBook4,1) - 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM. He had previously had the factory standard 250GB installed in the Macbook.
The MacBook had functioned normally until one day it had crashed. Upon a hard reset (ie using the Physical Power Button on the MacBook), the OS would not boot - a grey screen would appear with an Apple Logo, fans blowing at full speed. Diagnostics (AHT) using the Applications Disc would not boot either.
The following have been attemped, with no success in booting to the OS Disc:
    * Clearing the PRAM
    * Clearing the NVRAM
    * Booting the OS Disc from another MacBook connected via Firewire (ie Target Disc Mode)
    * Reseating the RAM Modules
    * Using only one RAM Module
    * Using a different (working 80GB) Hard Drive
    * Repartitioning the 'different' Hard Drive (using a GPT Scheme / MBR Scheme)
    * Booting into Single User Mode (Command-S) - would hang at the Grey Screen on boot
    * Booting into Verbose Mode (Command-V) which hangs at 'appleintelcpupowermanagementclient'
Unfortunately the product is now out of the window of the standard 12 month AppleCare warranty provided as standard on MacBooks. I am now stuck in a rut, as I did promise him that 'it will be fixed'!
    Would appreciate your thoughts.

Did you call Apple and ask for replacement disks (giving them your serial number)?
If not, and if you purchased the retail version at the Apple store online, then you may have a version that is older than what yours came with. And, macs cannot boot from an OS older than what they came with. I believe the latest retail version is 10.6.3 and yours might have had 10.6.4 or higher. You might want to check on your model to get the exact OS version; you may need to call Apple and request replacement disks.
