Extracting photos/graphics from FrameMaker

From a FrameMaker 11 book, I want to extract all the imported photos and graphics and put one on each slide of a PowerPoint presentation. This way our trainer can present the photos/graphics to our trainees in person and quiz them on what is shown including the callouts.
Any idea how to do this? Or a different method for accomplishing the same training goal?

That may make it easier.
I forget what it's called without looking things up (and I can't right
now), but there's a way inside Frame to build a list of imported by
reference items with paths....
Turn that list into a text file and you have the beginning of a script that
will copy all the items to one place. Or if you're a script wizard in
Microsoft, to insert them into PPT slides.

iMovie 6 is so similar to iMovie 5, there's no need to ask separately in both forums.

Keep getting "renderable text" error when I need to OCR PDF's from FrameMaker.

My solution has been to individually extract all those pages, then open them up in Photoshop, flatten them and
widen the canvas size to standard 8.5 x 11.
But that's a little tedious and time-consuming and you have to delete the original page from your document, after
importing the OCR-friendly page.
Is there a printer definition, or something you can set up when you're generating your PDF's in the first place,
that will get rid of that annoying "renderable text" error?

I don’t know how it happens but after I save my work in FrameMaker or MS Word, and print
to PDF for the final output, there are often pages with text in them that isn’t recognizable,
or that can’t be found with a CTRL+F search.
That is a serious issue, and one we might be able to help you with, but really, quite separate from the issue here. It's too late to try and fix this once it is a PDF.
What is it that’s lost when OCR is run?
Quality. Small file size. Tags (which might be required legally). Almost everything except the basic text, and that might also be lost given that OCR is not guaranteed to work. This is NOT the right way to solve your problem.
The translator doesn’t have any Adobe products except Reader, so I’m limited to Acrobat
to show her how the words and pictures are laid out on a page.
In order for her to copy and paste that text – or search it, to find all of the places where the
same word might be used – I need to make sure every word is there for her to grab.
I have heard of translators trying to work with PDFs, and few that succeed. You can reasonably expect a transation service to support FrameMaker. But if they don't I recommend you extract the text from FrameMaker to a simple Word or text file. They should be fine using the PDF as a visual reference, and having the text to translate, and for you to flow back into the original layout. (Again, something I'd expect a full service translation to do themselves, but there are advantages to keeping control too).
Those were the 2 pages that gave the ‘renderable text’ error. Don’t ask me why or how, they
look like all the other pages in that document. Except Acrobat thinks they’re scanned graphics,
that’s how they present when you wave the cursor around in them, hunting for text.
Renderable text is just text. It means that somewhere on that page there is text. Surely there is layout, page numbers, whatever from FrameMaker on the pages. If not, we really need to look at your production methods - back to the first point.

How do I isolate or extract an image from a photo?

Does anyone know of any programs that will help to extract an image from a photo so it doesn't have an ugly background?

Or just play back in full screen and pause the video on the section you want and take a screen shot(Shift CMD + 3).
Another thing you can do is Export using Quicktime from the Share menu and change the Export setting to Movie to Image Sequence. Make sure you export into a folder as you will get approx 30 images for every second of video you export. I would recommend creating a new project and just adding a couple seconds of the video clip around the spot that has the image you want then export Movie to Image Sequence (into a folder).

How do i extract photos from a flash drive

I just recently switched from Windows to Mac, and haven't taken a class on how to fully use my computer yet. But I do have a flash drive that I put all of my photos on from my windows computer, and I would like to know after I plug in my flash drive, where do I go to extract the files to move them onto my new Mac computer, thank you in advance.

Welcome to us!
when you plug in your flash drive (USB?) it will appear as a white hard drive on your desktop. Double click it and you will see the contents.
If you have a folder with all your photos, you could import them into iPhoto:
- either you drag the photo folder onto the iPhoto icon (camera with yellow palm three photo).
- or start iPhoto first and "Import to library..." in the file menu.

Kudos! I too am frustrated about this change to my personal page. I also know Apple is not to blame. I also manage a page for the company I work for using pages app. And that app is UN affected and I can choose from any photo stored on my phone (4). I do keep them seperate so I can keep a professional aspect for the company. But if you want your personal page linked to your public or work page, this maybe the work around your looking for.

Just upgraded from FrameMaker 7.2 to version 12. When I try to create a pdf of a book using .ps file, this crashes. When I use the SaveAsPDF option, the graphics either missing or only partially shown in the resulting PDF. Any ideas?

1. Check to see whether you're fully patched (the latest release is 12.0.4 - you need to install the patches in order).
2. Use the RGB option instead of the CMYK (unless you are creating output for press production).

Hi,
I have a load of FLA files with large libraries of vector graphics.
Is there a way of forcing Flash to create an export(jpg or swf)of all the graphics in a library without having to manually drag them onto the stage or into a scene before publishing or exporting them?
I'm thinking there might be an SDK or utility or something that can read fla files and export everything programmatically.
Any ideas?

You would have to buy a backup extractor.
The backups are not inteded to be viewed. They are for restoring settings to your iphone.
You should be importing all pics taken with your iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.

Told by adobe that I should purchase photoshop elements 13 to extract photo from video but it will not even open a video file -- what am I missing?

I am supposed to be able to extract a frame from PSE 13 but it will not let me do so. Specifically, Select File > Import > Frame From Video is supposed to allow this but when I click Import, there is no Frame from video option.

I don't think there's a solution for you.
However, consider this a learning experience: Use the free (and automatic) backup methods that Apple provides, such as iCloud & Photo Stream. Or, use the built in function of your computer to regular copy & save your photos & videos from your iPhone to your computer. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
