Extrapolating data to plot where expected points would be on a graph

Hi,
For a physics excel project I need to reproduce a graph identically that was given to me. I am trying to do all of it on numbers instead of buying excel, and I was able to figure out everything, except for this box on the graph.
It is a dotted line with a x and y component that shows were a point would be plotted that had a lower x value then the lowest x real value.
The text given to us that is pointing towards the dotted line box is as follows:
"By extrapolation of the data, the period of a 0.15 kg oscillator is expected to be approximately 0.55 seconds."
If anyone has any clue how to get this on numbers, it would be appreciated.
If you dont understand what im describing, you can post your email and I will send the picture your way, because its difficult to describe
Thanks in advance

I will be able to look the beast tomorrow.

  • I want to plot a waveform chart where I have a constant slope(defined by me) and new data is plotted over the chart with the defined slope already in the background.

    I want my chart to have a constant slope already plotted before it continues to start plotting the real time data.. so that I can compare my new data point to point with the ideal slope that i already have in the background

    Since your graph is refreshed every time you go through the loop anyway, just set up the constant/reference array before the loop and feed it into the graph. That way you'll also have a full X-axis (and a Y-axis which at least includes all the reference data) for the graph already set up.

    How do I get the numbers ipad app to plot a graph of dates against values, where the most recent date is on the right of the graph, but the most recent date is at the top rather than bottom of the rows in the table?
    Also how can it be a line graph without plotting a circle at each value?
    Thanks this is very frustrating

    Make a copy of the table and produce your Line chart or Bar chart from the copy. Sort the copy into the order you want to see in your chart.
    Alternately you could use a Scatter Chart...

  • Can I show a data label for only one point in a series?

    Forgive a newbie question from an Excel convert, but can I show a value label for only one point in a data series? If yes, how?
    There are a number of graphs where I only want to value of either an extreme value or the ending value to show. Having all the labels in a series makes the chart too busy. This is pretty easy to do in Excel.
    If this can't be done, I guess that adding a text box over those points would work.
    Thanks

    Sure. Here's and example labeling only the MIN and MAX points.
    Column B contains the data charted with the blue line.
    Column C extracts the MIN and MAX values using the formula below. Those two values are charted as a separate series, using the green data point markers, and are labeled with their values. The intervening empty string values appear to have doused the lines connecting the two data points.
    Formula: =IF(OR(B=MAX(B),B=MIN(B)),B,"")

  • Plotting dynamic data but plot showing previous acquired data too

    Hi, I am trying to plot a voltage-signal graph simultaneously, as it is being acquired by the computer from the SR830 lock-in amplifier. I have used a X-Y plot and placed it inside the for loop where the data is being acquired. <It only shows me the last point instead of all the points acquired earlier too. I want to retain the earlier data plot as well instead of just the last data point but want to update the graph as the data are acquired sequentially. If I put the x-y plot outside the loop. it will acquire a set of data before plotting which is not desirable in my case, as data has to be plotted dynamically. Can u guys please suggest me a way. Am I doing something wrong? thanks in advance.

    Sorry, my message was incomplete. You need to double-click the "build xy graph" express VI and un-check "clear data on each call".  Easy enough?
    Whenever you want to start over, wire a true to the reset input to clear the history.

  • Problem with date fields in where clause after changing driver

    Hi,
    We have changed the oracle driver we use to version 10
    and now we have some trouble with date-fields.
    When we run this SQL query from our Java program:
    select *
    from LA_TRANS
    where LA_TRANS.FROM_DATE>='20040101' AND LA_TRANS.FROM_DATE<='20041231'
    We get this error code:
    ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
    The query worked fine whit the previous driver.
    Is there some way I can run a SQL query with date fields
    as strings in the where clause?
    Thanks!

    Keeping the argument of standard SQL or not aside, comparing DATE columns to a constant string (which looks like a date in one of the thousands of the formats available, but not in others) is NOT one of the best programming practices and leads to heartburn and runtime errors (as you have seen yourself).
    I would rather compare a DATE to a DATE.
    Also, constants like that would be another issue to fix in your code:

    Hi,
    I have created a simple interface for testing purpose. All it has to do is to Read the data from a Source Text file and put it into another text file (exactly the same headers as that of source) ...
    I am using Oracle as my staging area.
    But at 'Insert column Header' Stage, it gives me a warning 'FROM keyword not found where expected' and when it goes to the next step 'Insert Rows' it gives me the same error 'FROM keyword not found where expected' and aborts its execution.
    I checked the query for insertion and found nothing wrong in it (FROM Statement is just where it is expected, that is) but somehow its not working.
    Can somebody help me out as i have done it before on other Installations and dont know why it is occuring that too for the simplest thing in ODI ...

  • How do I set the transition between access points would be fine?

    Hello everyone,
    We have an organization Wirless controller 2504 with 20 aironet access-point (700 series)
    Once I defined  all the access points I noticed that the transition between them is not working fine...
    I mean that clients can not walk around in our organization without having to connect to any access point separately.
    How do I set the transition between access points would be fine?
    Thanks a lot (:

    HI Omri,
    which software version you have on WLC ?
    Is the site survey done propely ?
    Remember: It is the client that decides when to roam and which AP to connect to based on what it perceives the signal to be.
    If your site survey design is perfect and still have problems while roaming then:
    Disable your lower data rates on the 2.4ghz and or 5ghz radio and your clients will roam better. Try to disable everything below 11mbps. and give that a try.May be old device will work in this case.

  • Repeatative answers expecting points!

    All,
    I would like to continue the discussion that Ruchit and Juan started in the thread How can we verify transport request before do the transported. in a more formal way so that all the members are aware of whats going on.
    As Ruchit and Juan said, in the near past it is seen that some members in this community keep on giving the same answers (that has already been answered in the same thread itself) expecting points. This is realy useless and uncalled for and frustrating at times.
    I think one major reason for this is to get the points and the T-shirt, but incase you guys are not aware, T-shirts wont be awarded from now on. Instead the money spent on shipping the shirts will be used to feed school children in third world countries. Read this blog from Mark : /people/mark.finnern/blog/2007/11/28/food-for-points
    This i believe is an EXCELLENT move and offcourse would mean that those who post only with the sole motive of getting the T-Shirt will take a backseat and would bring the true contributors to the forefront.
    I believe that all the members in the community are matured enough to know that the primary motive of this community is to exchange knowledge amongst us so that all of us can grow technically and the awarding of points is just a way to express your thanks. Mastering Basis is all about learning from others about things you dont know and teaching others all that you do know.
    So, lets make sure we use this community in the right spirit so that all of us can be benifited!
    Feel free to express your thoughts and opinions on this in this thread.
    Cheers!

  • Make the data for a registry key point to the installation folder of my app.

    I have an application that creates files with a unique file extension (.myextension).  These files should be associated with a particular icon so that the icon is shown when they are viewed in Windows Explorer, etc.  I know how to do this when I create an installer by adding several registry keys and values under the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT] key as shown below.
                       key                                                name              type                                   data
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT]
         .myextension                                         (Default)          REG_SZ               Myextension.file.type.record
         Myextension.file.type.record              (Default)          REG_SZ               Text description of file type
                   DefaultIcon                                  (Default)          REG_SZ               path to the icon file.
    The key for the file extension record (.myextension) has a default value where the data points to the key for the file type record (Myextension.file.type.record).  The data for the default value of the Myextension.file.type.record key is just a description for the file type.  There is also a subkey called DefaultIcon.  The data for it's default value is the path to the file containing the icon that is to associated with the file type.  If the file contains more than one icon, it may be necessary to modify the data (path) to indicate which icon to use.
    So, this is all good if path to the file containing the icon is known.  I added an icon file to the build when I built my application and it will be installed in a known location within the directory where my application is installed.  The location is [InstallDirectory]data\myicon.ico, where [InstallDirectory] is the directory where my application is installed.  The installation process, including the addition of registry keys is handled by an installer that I have created.  The problem arises when the user choses to install to a location other than the default directory specified in the installer.  I can't know before hand where that will be.  How can I specify the path in the DefaultIcon key so that it points to the correct location after installation?  Is there some symbol that I can use for the installation directory so that the path will be set correctly at installation time?

    Hi cbfsystems,
    If correctly understand what you are trying to do, check this out.  This shows you how to add a user-specified install directory to a registry entry in the installer build spec.

  • Performance with dates in the where clause

    Performance with dates in the where clause
    CREATE TABLE TEST_DATA
    FNUMBER NUMBER,
    FSTRING VARCHAR2(4000 BYTE),
    FDATE DATE
    create index t_indx on test_data(fdata);
    query 1: select count(*) from TEST_DATA where trunc(fdate) = trunc(sysdate);
    query 2: select count(*) from TEST_DATA where fdate between trunc(sysdate) and trunc(SYSDATE) + .99999;
    query 3: select count(*) from TEST_DATA where fdate between to_date('21-APR-10', 'dd-MON-yy') and to_date('21-APR-10 23:59:59', 'DD-MON-YY hh24:mi:ss');
    My questions:
    1) Why isn't the index t_indx used in Execution plan 1?
    2) From the execution plan, I see that query 2 & 3 is better than query 1. I do not see any difference between execution plan 2 & 3. Which one is better?
    3) I read somewhere - "Always check the Access Predicates and Filter Predicates of Explain Plan carefully to determine which columns are contributing to a Range Scan and which columns are merely filtering the returned rows. Be sceptical if the same clause is shown in both."
    Is that true for Execution plan 2 & 3?
    3) Could some one explain what the filter & access predicate mean here?
    Thanks in advance.

    Be careful; post the code you're actually running.
    query 1: select count(*) from TEST_DATA where trunc(fdate) = trunc(sysdate);
    query 2: select count(*) from TEST_DATA where fdate between trunc(sysdate) and trunc(SYSDATE) + .99999;
    query 3: select count(*) from TEST_DATA where fdate between to_date('21-APR-10', 'dd-MON-yy') and to_date('21-APR-10 23:59:59', 'DD-MON-YY hh24:mi:ss');
    My questions:
    1) Why isn't the index t_indx used in Execution plan 1?To use an index, the indexed column must stand alone as one of the operands. If you had a function-based index on TRUNC (fdate), then it might be used in Query 1, because the left operand of = is TRUNC (fdate).
    2) From the execution plan, I see that query 2 & 3 is better than query 1. I do not see any difference between execution plan 2 & 3. Which one is better?That depends on what you mean by "better".
    If "better" means faster, you've already shown that one is about as good as the other.
    Queries 2 and 3 are doing different things. Assuming the table stays the same, Query 2 may give different results every day, but the results of Query 3 will never change.
    For clarity, I prefer:
    WHERE     fdate >= TRUNC (SYSDATE)
    AND     fdate <  TRUNC (SYSDATE) + 1(or replace SYSDATE with a TO_DATE expression, depending on the requirements).
    3) Could some one explain what the filter & access predicate mean here?Sorry, I can't.

    Is there a way to create forms where certain fields would become required only if there was a certain choice made in a dropdown box in another field?

    Yes but you will have to create some custom JavaScript to do this.
    Also you should be aware that the "Required" property is only processed when the form is submitted to a scripted web page or "mailto:" process.
