Extreme(802.11n) not connecting to internet

Comcast is my internet provider. New Airport Extreme is my 3rd airport in 6 years. First airport fried due to lighting strike four years ago. When I got my 2nd one copied all setting and after figuring out I needed to shut down the cable modem for 1/2 hour to let it reset everything worked. After four years 2nd airport is getting funky have to reset it every couple of days, purchased new Airport Extreme(802.11n). After updating airport utility software on MacBook, setup new airport with same settings. According to Utility everything is OK but it will not down load any web pages, mail or upload. When I switch back to old airport everything works. I have rechecked and reentered setting numerous times. I even shut down the cable modem for 24 hours hoping that it would reset like some telephone DSL systems that only allow two connections. Note I have not upgrade old airport extremes firmware to 5.7 I assume the extreme(802.11n) purchased in August 2007 came with new firmware.

Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the computer(s)
4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

Green light on Airport Extreme but will not connect to internet

I have tried restarting computer and Airport Extreme but it will not connect to internet. Unit has been working great up until now. I have made no changes in system.
This Airport/time machine is 2009 version.

The Cisco DPC 3010 is a cable modem, so you will need to let the modem completely reset before you connect it to the AirPort Extreme.
It may be necessary to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme and reconfigure it, but we will try a shortcut first to see if that can be avoided.
Power off the entire network.....all devices....modem, AirPort, computers, mobile devices, etc in any order that you want.
Be sure to disconnect the power cable on the modem, either on the back of the device or pull the power cord from the wall AC jack
Leave everything powered off for at least 30 minutes. Longer is better, as it sometimes takes the equipment back at the ISP longer to completely reset and issue a new fresh IP address to the modem.
After the wait period, power up the modem first, and let it run for at least 5 minutes by itself. If your modem documentation states that the modem should be powered up for 15 minutes, then go with 15.
Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a few minutes
Then power up other devices one at a time about a minute apart
When the entire network is back up, check the network.
It this does not work, you will have to start over again as above, except this time you will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme.
To do that, power off the AirPort Exterme for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Extreme.....and keep holding it in for an additional 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Extreme
Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Power off the AirPort now, and start it back up in the proper sequence
If things still don't work, then you likely have a defective AirPort Extreme that will need to be replaced.

Airport Extreme 1st generation not connecting to internet via PPPoE.

The Extreme is replacing an existing Airport Express which successfully connects to the internet. I reset the Airport Extreme to the factory settings and started from there. The internet provider requires it be setup using PPPoE. I've tried several times to set up a new wireless network but the Airport Extreme isn't connecting to the internet, can't find DNS servers. I contacted the internet provider and confirmed that all settings/usernames/passwords are correct. I cycled the power on the DSL modem, unplugging it for several minutes a few times. Finally I took the whole setup to the local Genius Bar. Since they couldn't setup a PPPoE network there, the Apple Tech set up the Extreme using DHCP so we know it works. He suggested that I try replacing the wireless network instead of setting up a new network. I came home and tried that to the same results: no DNS servers and PPPoe not connecting to the internet. Everything in the Extreme is exactly the same as the Express except the Express works and the Extreme doesn't. What am I missing?
Some background:
I purchased and used the Extreme in the US. Now trying to connect it to my MacBook in Canada. I did change the setting in the Extreme to "Canada"
I just the computer to 10.6.8. I ran the Disk Utility to repair the disk permissions several times.

If you temporarily connect the modem directly to your MacBook and set up a PPPoE connection on your Mac as a test......can it connect to the Internet that way?

AirPort Extreme 802.11n - disappointing connection speeds in Windows

I have just set up a brand new AirPort Extreme and, with my MacBook Pro running OS X10.6.5 I am getting excellent reception and a full 300 Mbits/s connection speed throughout the house. When I boot the MBP into Windows 7, though the reception is still very good, I only get 130 Mbits/s maximum speed. Is there any good reason why performance is so much poorer in 7 than in OS X using the same hardware? All drivers are up to date as far as I can tell.

It seems my initial 300 Mbits/s connection speed was just a short lived phenomenon and now my connection seems to have settled at 130 Mbits/s for both OS X and 7. I also logged my iMac on to the wireless network (though it is usually hard wired) and that initially declared a speed 270 Mbits/s, then briefly 300, but quickly reduced to 130 Mbits/s despite being right next to the AirPort unit. Is there anything I can do to try to restore the higher speeds?

Not able to see disk connected to AirPort Extreme 802.11n

I just installed my AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wireless Base station. Wireless internet works like a charm, however, I cannot see my external hard disk when it is connected to the base station (amber light blinking and when checking the problem, I am told that "Disk needs repair"). When connecting the hard disk directly to the PC, I have no problem seeing the data. Any tips or tricks out there... ?
AirPort Extreme 802.11n Windows XP

I finally got my 500 GB Western Digital MyBook USB drive to work by reformatting it to HFS+ format.
Of course, before I could do that, I had to copy all my files onto another hard drive. That job took a day to accomplish.
I work with Poser, and have a lot of content installed... We're talking thousands of files.
Once the drive was reformatted to HFS+ format, I copied everything back over. That took another day. Then I connected to the AEBS.
The USB drive was immediately recognized. It was incredibly easy to access the USB drive on my PCs. It required no effort on my part, except to supply the password.
In the end, I've decided this effort is a failure.
The drive is way too slow for my needs. Also, one of my vital Poser utilities (CorrectReference Pro) will not work properly with the USB drive on the AEBS.
I am currently in the process of copying all those files over to two external USB hard drives attached to my other PC.
Then I plan to unmount my 500 GB MyBook drive, and reformat it back to NTFS. I'll let the Notebook PC have it on a direct connection again.
I have a couple "junk" External Hard drives that are 160 GB. Maybe I'll use one of those as an Airport disk...
But I won't be using the Airport disk for anything important. It's too slow.

I appologize for the font and colour, I compossed the question in pages and failed to notice the font colour as grey ... there are a variety of computers of various ages so I think it is using a setting that allows both 5G and 2.4 ... the connection to the Airport is thru a cable modem and cable does run throuhout the house ... maybe those hard wires would be a place to look at ... do you think that putting the 'Express' on the second floor might help ... thanks again ...

You may want to try reinstalling Mavericks. Airport Utility installed by Mavericks may no longer connect to your older AEBS (though I've not heard that.) Installing the Old AirPort Utility (Version 5.6) on Mountain Lion | frank.is.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
     Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
     Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
     Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select ReinstallLion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from
     the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
     Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                three times faster than wireless.

Connecting AirPort Express to AirPort Extreme 802.11n

The following steps helped me set up an AirPort Express base station connected to a set of wireless speakers with my new AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station. I’m posting this because the process was not entirely intuitive, at least not to me.
I’ll assume you have set up the AP Extreme base station to connect to the internet and run your home network and that you are connected to your wireless network.
Make sure you set-up the AP Extreme base station to broadcast in 802.11n + 802.11b/g modes, i.e. both at once. You will also have to check he setting that allows the newtork to be extended.
Reset the AP Express base station so that in runs on the factory defaults by pressing the reset button with a paper clip. Wait for it to completely restart.
Launch the AirPort Utility. You should see both your AP Extreme and AP Express base stations in the left hand column. Click on the AP Express base station you just reset. When it asks to switch wireless networks do so. Then hit continue.
On the next screen select “Connect to my current wireless network” option and hit continue.
On the following screen select the “Extend the range of my AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express network” and hit continue. Do NOT select the “Join my wireless network” option even though it says this is how you connect to wireless speakers. This is the part that was not obvious to me. When I tried this the AirPort Express base station flashed orange and wouldn’t connect despite waiting 30 minutes.
Chose the network you wish to extend from the drop down menu. My keychain supplied the password for the network.
Give your base station a name and hit continue.
Select the main base station in the list provided. This is the one connected to the internet and hit ok.
The Airport Utility software will configure the network to accept the AirPort Express base station.
Now all that’s left is to connect your wireless speakers to the AirPort Exppress base station. You can now play music through AirTunes while being connected to your fast 802.11n network.

I recently setup an Airport Express in conjuction with my Extreme Base Station. I'm not really understanding how this method enables 802.11n connection speeds (via Base Station) to the internet and also allow streaming music through the Express at 802.11b/g. It's my understanding that if you want to be able to access the internet AND stream music at the same time the Express needs to join the network. In order for the Express to join the network (able to recognize the Base Station)...the Base station needs to be changed from 802.11n only to 802.11n (802.11b/g compatable)....which essentially means your connecting to the internet at 802.11b/g. If your wanting to keep 802.11n only on the base station...you would have to create a seperate network via the Express to stream music. What this means is you CANNOT access the internet and stream music at the same time. You would have to manually change Airport in the taskbar to do one or the other.
Am I off base here? If I am missing something please let me know...because it would be great to be able to connect to the internet at 802.11n only with a multi-case rate set to 23Mbps vs. the 11Mbps (maximum) of the 802.11b/g compatable option.
I guess what is confusing me is that my setup is basically the same as what was described above..minus having the "Extended Network" being enabled. How does extending the network change things?

Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi not working

I just purchased Apples Airport Extreme 802.11n with the idea of getting just a bit more range than my old airport. This is/was hard to tell since I could not get the unit to function properly.
My internet service requires two address but this A/P Extreme only allowed one. This A/P Extreme 802.11n totally shut down my internet service. It did not allow wireless connection with other computers. The range seemed to be less than my older Airport Extreme 802.11 a/b/g.
I had to re-install my Airport Extreme a/b/g to get things working again.
I went to Apples Products and Service page to find out about the Express registration. Apples registration system did not recognize my serial number. Apparently their specification page recognized some parts of the serial number since the web page did display specification for the Airport Extreme.
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REASON FOR ALL OF THIS TO HAPPEN?

You said you went to the "Express" page and tried to register above. It may be because you tried to register an Extreme as an Express. I had some difficulty over two months ago registering my Extreme. It let me register it without all the data because it would not recognize the serial number. Called Apple Care and they made sure it was registered.
Also, unless you have an all 802.11n system, you may get a little more range out of the Extreme, but I don't think any more than if you would have used an Airport Express 802.11g. Range and speed are geared toward all n systems.

WMM for AirPort Extreme (802.11n) - UMA T-Mobile not working...

Is there any chance we'll see WMM (WiFi Multi-Media) in a firmware upgrade anytime soon? I noticed that according to the WiFi Alliance's website, when the AirPort Extreme was certified, it supported WMM!

As an early adopter, I just got a BlackBerry 8320 from T-Mobile, which does UMA, so you can use the phone over WiFi. Works awesome with wireless routers that do WMM, basically doesn't work with my AirPort Extreme... As you might imagine, this is quite frustrating, as I have particular desire to have two APs, for basically no reason!

i am a die-hard apple user- heck, even a long-time stockholder- and recently
bought an airport extreme (802.11n) router for my house. it worked
flawlessly and i thought it was the best thing since sliced bread... well,
until i picked up a UMA phone from T-Mobile.
UMA is a service that routes your calls over WiFi. for some reason the UMA
service worked everywhere except over my Airport Extreme base station. as a
surprise, it even worked over my neighbour's older Airport Extreme (802.11g)
connection.
i swapped base stations (ie, brought his base station to my house, connected
it to my network) and it worked. so, it is an issue that is clearly
isolated to the new 802.11n base stations.
thinking it was only me with this issue, i dug around the internet and found

Connecting AirPort Extreme 802.11n directly to my Verizon FiOS service

I want to connect my new AirPort Extreme 802.11n directly to my Verizon FiOS service. The ActionTec wireless router supplied by Verizon died, and I bought an AirPort Extreme as a replacement. When I configured the AirPort extreme, it would not connect to the internet. I have read some posts here that indicate I plug my AirPort Extreme into the ActionTec and I am OK, however the ActionTec is dead.
Are there settings for the AirPort Extreme that are unique for going straight to the internet? What am I missing? My FiOS connection is an Ethernet connection- not coax.
Here is the interesting thing- I have an old AirPort Extreme (the round cone shaped model) that I plugged into the Verizon FiOS Ethernet connection. Everything works fine- I have a wireless connection to the internet. I didn't set anything. So my assumption is that I can make the new AirPort Extreme work with the Verizon FiOS.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I do not know if I have the strength to go through the Verizon help desk.

Good news! My problem was solved by calling Verizon FiOS support. The service tech said an AEBS can connect straight to the FiOS Ethernet connection. He broke the "lease" on my connection, had me connect the cable from the wall to my WAN slot, and then he "leased" my network connection to my AEBS. Works like butter now.
He said that the Verizon FiOS network "leases" the network connections every 24 hours or so, and had I left my AEBS connected to the network, it would have pushed the new setting down to the AEBS.

Help needed connecting Iomega Minimax Ext HDD to Airport Extreme 802.11n

Would appreciate if someone can help me with the following task. After researching and trying several things, I have not succeed in resolving the issue.
I want to connect a Iomega MiniMax Ext HDD (for Mac) to my (Airport Extreme 802.11n + Time Capsule) box using the USB port at the back of my Airport Extreme. Then I want to access the Ext HDD wirelessly as a drive on my Macbook (snow leopard OS). I was told this was possible at the Apple Store...but have failed so far.

The following are the basic steps for sharing an external USB drive attached to either an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) or a Time Capsule (TC):
o Plug the hard disk into the USB port on the back of the base station.
o Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Mac, and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows
o Select your base station, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Click Disks in the toolbar, and then, click File Sharing.
o Choose “With a disk password,” or “With base station password” if you want to secure the shared disk with a password, or choose “With accounts” if you want to secure the disk using accounts. If you choose to use accounts, click Configure Accounts, click the Add "+" button, and then enter a name and password for each user that will access the disk. For simplicity, I would recommend using the "With a disk password" option.
o Choose “Not allowed,” “Read only,” or “Read and write” to assign guest access to the disk.
o Select the “Share disks over Ethernet WAN port” checkbox if you want to provide remote access to the disk over the WAN port.
You should now be able to find this drive within Finder under the SHARED category.

USING TWO AIRPORT EXTREMES (802.11N) INTERNET IS VERY SLOW

I live in a 5000sq ranch in arizona and have our internet set up in one end of the house. We have an airport extreme 802.11n and it wasnt putting out a good signal to the other end of the house so we got another airport extreme and airport express to expand out network. By the way both are 802.11n and the internet is still not even usable because it is so slow. The only computer that has some sort of speed is the mac tower that is hardwired to the airport. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you could ethernet the two Extreme N routers(try to place the second further into the house) and set the second in bridge mode and set to create its own wireless networrk. Use the manual configuration. The third can join the second, signal should reach and be strong. This must be in bridge mode also.
there are many different ways to set the configuration for wireless but the bridge mode is a must do.
