Extreme - Express Extension Problems

Greetings,
I'm trying to extend my wireless range by adding an airport express via ethernet to an airport extreme.  The setup seemed to go fine.  Airport Utility recognized the express as an extension and configured it as such.  But once it was installed, I can only access my wireless network via the guest account.  When I try to log in with the primary account, I get a timed out error.
When I pull the express off the network, I can get access to the primary account.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I figured it out with assistance from another Apple Guru--everything is up and running now.

  • Extreme/Express network problem - short wave intereference?

    Hi,
I have an extreme base station, an imac core duo in the same room and an express in the livingroom about 20+/- feet away. I want to stream music to the livingroom and extend the network so my ibook gets a strong signal in the living room. I had this all set and life was good for a few months. Suddenly weak or no signal, music cutting out, losing connection on the ibook. Often no connection in the LR and blinking orange light on the express. I reset express, triple checked and restarted everything to the point of starting from scratch. Thought maybe it was microwave (when not on?) fridge or cordless phone (phone now in a different place). I do have concrete walls. The kitchen was recently remodeled, the only new appliance is the microwave, and there are new cabinets and a wall was removed. But no conclusions to the problem.
Then the other night a friend looked at my neighbors yard and said "what is that big antenna?" It's not new, but the neighbor appears to have a shortwave or CB or some setup. It's been there all along. Sometimes I heard voices on the cheap speakers I used to have in the office... I thought is was CB from the nearby highway but come to think of it ... always the same voice.
So... I know NOTHING about shortwave or CB stuff. Is this likely my problem? I am waiting to see them in the yard so I can ask what it is. If it is my problem, is there anything I can do to resolve??
    Thanks!

Anything that operates at 2.4 GHz can cause interference with your wireless network. I don't know if shortwave or CB operate near this frequency but I don't believe so.

  • Airport Utility - Not detecting Extreme/Express,

    Hi,
I've just upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I've installed the Airport Utility but it isn't detecting either the Airport Extreme/Express. I can manually connect to them through the utility by entering the ip addresses and I can connect to the wireless network.
The problems are that itunes isn't detecting the Airport Express therefore making it redundant and the wireless internet connection keeps dropping internet connectivity. I'm using a Netgear WN111v2 USB adaptor to connect. It was all running smoothly on Vista but not now.
I have tried disabling the firewall (AVG) and restarting everything but still no luck. The internet will work fine for a few minutes then every page will fail to load for about a minute even though it is still connected the the airport network. Eventually is will just start working again or if you disconnect/reconnect it will too.
I really am stuck at this point so need help. If any more information is needed just ask.
    Regards,
    Ivan

  • Airport Express flashing amber; help to create an Extreme/Express network

I am a novice with wireless networks, so please bear with me....and I appreciate any advice that is in laymens terms.
I bought an iMAC G5 and a MacBook Pro (both with airport cards installed). I set up an Airport Extreme base station and have my G5 connecting to this wirelessly. This works fine. I also bought an Airport Express to extend the wireless reach within my house and to eventually hook in my stereo.
Problem 1 - my Airport express keeps flashing amber and is not being recognized. It was briefly recognized last night (although flashing amber) but this has been very rare. I've reset it, plugged it/unplugged it, but nothing stops the flashing or recognizes the express.
Problem 2 - Since I'm using an Extreme as the base station and Express to extend the network reach, what selection do I choose in the Airport Setup Assistant screen to connect the Extreme - "Set up new Airport base station" or Change settings on an existing Airport base station"? I think the latter, but want to be sure.
Problem 3 - I want to establish a network so I can use email, share files between my G5 and laptop, etc but am not clear how to do so. Airport has the option "creat network", but I really don't know what this accomplishes. I'd realy like to bring my laptop somewhere and be able to access files that are on my G5.
    So basicaly, HELLLPPP.
G5 and MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Still flashes...hard reset didn't work...and last night I even went back to factory reset. I went to the Apple store (genius bar??) and they said to bring it in if I can't fix it. We shall see.
Re the network set up..I'm starting to get there, but I've hit a stopping point. I made sure my G5 will allow file sharing, and I can see that computer in my "network", but when I aatempt to connect it asks me "Connect to the file server [computer name]" and asks me for a password. Nothing I've tried works. I just get a dialogue box that says "Connection Failed: Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled....."
Anyone know how to activate a login, if it is in fact disabled???
    Thanks in advance.

  • I am unable to see my Airport Extreme/Express on my MacBook via Airport Utility

    I have two issues:
    1. I am unable to see my Airport Extreme and my Airport Express via my MacBook Air's Airport Utility when I scan for Base Stations. However, the computer is happily connected to the wireless network of my Extreme (the Express is used to extend range)
    2. I am unable to see a HDD that is connected via USB cable to the Airport Extreme.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

    Further info:
    Setup
MacBook Air running OS X 10.5.8
    AirPort Extreme Base Station
AirPort Express used to extend range
    AirPort Utility v5.5.3
The MacBook Air is actually connected to the wireless network provided by the two AirPorts!
Oddly, I see both AirPorts just fine when using my older PowerBook G4 with an older version of the AirPort Utility.
In addition, I cannot see the external HDD connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station, and my wireless printer (HP D410a) suddenly stopped working via the MacBook Air. However, it works just fine from my iPhone, which is connected to the same AirPort Extreme/Express wireless network.
Recently, at the request of Sky Broadband, I switched to fixed IP addresses instead of DHCP, as I was having issues with the DHCP set-up.

  • Can you connect an ethernet cable to an Airport Express Extension?

I have an Airport Express that I am using as an extension to my current home wireless network.
That is successful and I have a green light. I am trying to plug in an ethernet cable to allow an older mac without an airport card to connect to that Airport Express Extension. When I turn off the airport and select Ethernet Cable, I am told that the cable is not connected to the internet. The wireless works fine and I can get full bars in the far part of my house - but I do not get internet when connecting an Ethernet cable.
    Help!
    Thanks in advance

  • Airport Extreme/Express vs. third-party routers

Do the common glitches in network connectivity with Leopard occur almost solely with third-party routers, or is it fairly commonly spreads between them and Extreme/Express users? Just curious.

In my line of work I setup various brands of wireless routers on a monthly basis.
I have not experience any network connectivity issues with any macs running leoapard. However there are on 3 models of router I have used since leoaprd came out.

  • Charging iPad with Airport Express extension power cable?

I have the discontinued Monster Airport Express Stereo Connection Kit, it comes with 3 cables, one of which is an Airport Express extension power cable, I want to know if I can use this power cable to charge my new iPad. I have asked Apple staff who didn't know as they no longer stock the cables. The power cord has a UK wall plug on one end and a 2 pin connector on the other, made to slot into the airport express unit it the same fashion as the iPad power cable slots into the iPad power block. I understand the iPad needs 10w power charging. Does anybody know if this will be safe to use? Many thanks...

Use the power adapter/cable that came with the iPad.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • AirPort Extreme HD causing problems

I've finally got my hard disk (Maxtor OneTouch 250GB) working with my AirPort Extreme.
The problem is that I have folders with upto 80GB of files in them, which just dont open when I click on them. I'd rather not format the disk because I have way too much required data on it.
Is there any way of making the disk work perfectly without having to wait for 10 mintues for a folder to open (which may/may not open and causes the HD to be disconnected)?

Actually although my hard disk is connected via AirPort Extreme, my iMac is connected to the network on Ethernet. So my iMac isn't using the wireless at all to connect to the hard disk.
My hard disk has stopped going offline randomly, but it doesn't make a difference anymore because I can't even open any of the folders on the hard disk.
I was told that if I formatted the hard disk and created smaller folders then the computers on the network would be able to access files faster.
I'm trying not to format my hard disk, so if anyone has an alternative solution that solves this then I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

  • AurPort Extreme/Express?

    Hello,
I have high speed internet with a cable modem and am using the D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router (2.4 & 5GHz) this - http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DIR-825-Xtreme-Gigabit-Router/dp/B001F7HLRC/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&qid=1301712548&sr=8-4
Do I need the AirPort Extreme/Express then? My internet works flawlessly and I see no real use for those 2 fancy schmancy gadgets from Apple. Thanks.
P.S. I'm old school - when I want to listen to music I pop in a CD and blast my stereo.

Does not sound like you need it. You got a router that is working for you.
Hey, thanks! I was just curious to see if they offer anything mind blowing to justify the need to replace my D-Link which is only 2 months old.

  • Few questions about Airport Extreme/Express

I have a few questions about Airport extreme/express:
1 Can you access hard drive trough express?
2 I have cable NOT wireless modem. What would be the best option (speed-wise) to connect to internet- connect modem to Extreme and access internet wirelessly from it? To connect modem to Extreme and imac?
3 How fast is read/ write from hard drive connected to Extreme?
4 How many hard drives can you connect to Extreme (or Express if that is possible)?
5 Can you remotely sync Ipod nano/ shuffle using Extreme?
I really hate wire clutter around my desk. What I intend to do is to connect hard drives and printer to Airport Extreme and access them remotely. That would leave empty desk:).
    Thanks

    1. You cannot connect a hard drive to the Airport Express USB port.
    2. The speed of wireless networking is faster than the speed of most cable internet services. Therefore, you won't notice any difference in your internet connection speed between (a) a cabled connection directly between Mac and modem or (b) a wireless connection between Mac and base station and modem.
    3. Apple has not published any specs on the speed of hard drive access for the Airport Extreme N Base Station. Several people have posted their own measurements (do a search in this discussion forum), and generally those results are not very good.
    4. Apple has not placed a limit on the number of drives you can attach to the Airport Extreme N Base Station (with use of a hub). How many do you want to connect?
    5. You cannot remotely sync an iPod using the Extreme Base Station.
