1. any updates to corret the extreme heating with use of safari 5.1? running same webpages on this vs 5.0.8 gets the computer >2x hotter! any way to correct it?

If you have Private Browsing enabled, that's why you aren't staying logged into websites. Same with Google maps.
Private Browsing doesn't "remember" AutoFill information.
Click History in the menu bar then click: Clear History

Extreme Heat... again!!

OK... now I'm getting a little frustrated here.
I am on my 4th phone, and it looks like I will soon be saying my 5th.
Phone #1 - Battery life very poor, extreme heat in use and when charging. This developed after 2 weeks of use. WiFi and Bluetooth off, auto backlight, ~20% brightness.
Phone #2 - All radios died (WiFi, Bluetooth, GSM, EDGE) and a message popped up saying "Service Required: iPhone cannot make or receive calls." Restore did not fix the issue, and in fact, bricked the phone.
Phone #3 - GSM signal loss, with no return until phone was turned off and back on. This is in 5 bar locations, all other phones in same location no issues. Sent in via Apple Care and replaced.
Phone #4 - This phone has now developed the same issue as phone #1. Extreme heat during use and charging, VERY poor battery life (drains in standby after 12 hours w/ WiFi and Bluetooth off, auto backlight, ~20% brightness, in a strong signal strength area.) This has developed after 1 week.
The phones have only been connected to the charger and cable supplied. Dock is used sometimes.
What is going on? This thing is so hot, I can feel the heat coming off of the glass screen when hovering my hand about 1/2 inch above the glass.
I don't want to get a refund for the phone... but this is frustrating getting a replacement week or so.
Any suggestions as to what is causing this? Anything I can do to troubleshoot the issue?
I tried a hard boot thinking possibly a software issue (infinite loop.) No deal.
I have an infrared thermometer I can shoot it with when I get home to see what the actual non-subjective temperature is.
As I write this... I'm starting to smell that "overheated electronic component" smell... but I haven't seen the "Ghost" come out yet.

I wonder if it is related to the problem I had the other day. I had checked email and done a few things, then went to my friends house. When I pulled the iphone out last it only showed half the battery life it had no more than an hour ago and it felt very warm near the top half. I went to check email again and it just sat there saying it was checking at the bottom, but the top did not show the usual 'iphone beachball' that it usually did. I could not get any new emails nor browse the web, only a hard reset took care of it. It was almost as if it was had been stuck in transmit mode for some time and was locked up. That is why the battery life dropped drastically and felt warm.

Extreme heating, full noise fan and kernel 150% cpu

My MBA is protected by Apple care and always had this heating problem.
Specially in the summer I have extreme heating problems, and kernel 150% of cpu slow down the computer irreparably, fan is at full throttle 6200 rpm and heating reached 85 degrees Celsius.
I have upgraded all the software, i read all the thread here, I have called the Apple customer care but i NEVER found a solution to this big problem.
Does anyone can help me to address the situation?

No, the cause and effect is opposite
It's not happening on mine. Here is my 1st generation 1.6Ghz MacBook Air w/Snow Leopard running a YouTube Flash video, Hardware Monitor and System Load maxed out at 100% for over 10 minutes.

As you can see, the kernel task is only 3.0, CPU core temps are about 68C and the CPU clock frequency has not lowered. I might also add there is a Speck SeeThru case attached to the computer.
I suggest trying the same test. If your CPU core temps get considerably higher and kernel tasks rises at the same rate, I would say you have a cooling issue--possibly with the thermal module. The CPU/GPU may need more grease.

How do you get the Menu Bar out of Fullscreen mode with Safari?

When I click on Full Screen mode to watch video the Menu Bar remains at the top of the screen. This just recently happened and its only with Safari because Firefox's Full Screen mode works as it should. I have read many forums with questions similar to mine but none have helped. Please keep in mind when you answer this question that it is NOT JUST WITH YOUTUBE. This is happening with every website that I use to watch videos. I suspect that the update had something to do with this because if memory serves right it happened the last time I updated.

Im sorry but I figured it out now. I hate when you figure something out right after you do something extreme like signup for a profile here and post a question. Well to those who want the answer all in one shot there are 2 solutions for me.
1. Make sure Safari is updated completely. You can check by clicking SAFARI> ABOUT SAFARI
Safari 5.0.5 gave me this problem but the new update is 5.1.2
2.Glims - Free ad on for Safari which enables you to view you window in COMPLETE full screen at all times, as well as maximise your window to fill all empty space (makes so you dont have to worry about accidentally clicking on your desktop which I do all the time lol). You can use this option once Glims is installed simply by clicking on
SAFARI> Full Screen
or
SAFARI> Maximise Window Size
By doing Full Screen mode you can then click on the full screen capability on the website you are on

What is wrong with Safari 7.0?

Anyone else finding Safari in Mavericks almost useless? Upgraded and can barely use it...when I open I get a string of empty windows and on most clicks it won't open my bookmarks. Also, won't open bookmarks when I choose 'open in tabs'.....anyone else haveing these problems? Removed my prefs file but still Safari is extremely buggy....

No problems with Safari 7 on v10.9 Mavericks here. Maybe maintenance will help.
With Safari open press Command + Option + E to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, from menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select:
Clear History
Remove all website data
Then click Reset. Quit and relaunch Safari to test again.

Firefox 6.0.1 causes extreme problems with ATI Catalyst 10.x drivers on a Win7 x64 system. When I roll back to Firefox 6.0, no problems. Can this be resolved?

Firefox 6.0.1 causes extreme problems with ATI Catalyst 10.x drivers on a Win7 x64 system. Took me quite awhile to identify, but when I roll back to Firefox 6.0, no problems. Once Firefox recognizes this and reinstalls the 6.0.1 update then severe display driver problems occur causing very erratic display behavior and ultimately rendering the system inoperative. The problem appears to occur within a minute or two after Firefox has been opened and it occurs even if Firefox has been subsequently closed prior to the actual event taking place. I have attempted this 6 times just to ensure that the problem was associated with the 6.0.1 update.

On Mac OS, plugins are installed to a common location, usually ''' /Library/Internet Plugins''' for system-wide availability or to '''~/Library/Internet Plugins''' for a specific user. Ref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_plugins#Background

I "upgraded" to FF4, now it doesnt work properly, wont open pages, will open blank tabs when i click on a link, tried to go back to the older one but that doesnt work now either, have tested it with Safari and it opens everything fine. Any ideas?

After upgrading to firefox 4 im now having a lot of problems using the browser.
if i try an open a link in a new tab it will just open up a blank tab, if i click on links or even type in the google search bar at the top it doesnt do anything, it just says "done" and the circle thing stops as if im on the page already, have tested it with Safari doing the same things and Safari works fine. I'd swap but all my bookmarks and passwords are in Firefox so id rather stay with that.
I tried going back to the older version of firefox (3.5 or something) but seems the bugs are here to stay now.......so.......any ideas? because its really annoying, shouldn't have "upgraded".
Is there a new patch coming out anytime soon or should i start getting used to Safari?

I would copy over the entire thing if you have room. With iTunes 10.4 though, you can download any previous iTunes purchases you have made in the past with your current iTunes account. While in iTunes, look at the left hand side of your screen and select "Purchases" and look at the bottom right corner of the screen and select "Download Previous Purchases". If you have an iPhone, iPod and/or iPad...you can do the same thing from each device. Nice new feature...just remember that those ripped CDs need a back-up!!! Enjoy...

Very poor implementation of XMLHttpRequest streaming with Safari for Window

I hope this post reaches Apple engineers. This is critical for us to resolve this. I am a member of the developer network, so if using incident support is necessary, it can be used. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. I have implemented a test to compare XMLHttpRequest streaming performance for different browsers. Safari for Windows 5.0.3 had the worst results compared to Chrome and Firefox. Furthermore, I think this problem was introduced after Safari 3. The test consists of a server pushing messages of about 350 bytes to the browser at a rate of about 300/s. Once server pushes 10,000 messages, it closes the connection and browser opens new one repeating the cycle. There were several problems associated with Safari: 1) Safari could not process much more then 300 messages/s, that is quite low. Chrome had no problem processing 1,000. If, for example, 500 m/s was used, Safari would quickly allocate hundreds of meg of memory and crash. 2) Safari starts with about 64MEG of memory allocated. Once the test page is opened, memory quickly climes to 150MEG and as test progresses to >400MEG. Once the connection closes, it drops to 150MEG again. Chrome's memory did not fluctuate at all staying at 32MEG for the same test. 3) CPU was steadily claiming as test progressed and then dropped as connection was reset, creating CPU spikes. It reached about 50% CPU before connection was closed. Chrome's CPU stayed at about 2% all the time. This is the code: Server. Should be run with the latest Java Tomcat 7. I ran the utility disk and this is what it said.

Then I hit fix permissions and it said this

Problems with Safari, Firefox and Flash player

Ever since I got my new iMac that has Snow Leopard I've had problems with Safari and Firefox freezing or crashing. It appears that part of the problem is the Flash plugin because sometimes a screen pops up and says something like: the flash script is having problems. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling Flash, Safari and Firefox but the problem is still there. My browser seems to hang up or freeze a lot no matter if I use Safari or Firefox.
Any ideas?
I just discovered the Chrome browser from Google this morning and so far its working very well. No freezes and it appears to handle Flash video without any problems.
How can that be?

Ah! The proverbial missing information. Why the regrets? Most people are having no issues migrating from previous computers; it's the preferred method. See Best Practices and Setup new Mac. You're a long way from starting over.

On a laptop G4, 10.5.8 and Safari 5.02 I experience the following:
On the account of my oldest daughter everything works fine, i.e. wireless internet works and no problems with mail or safari.
On the same laptop, on the account of my other daughter, the wireless is OK, she can mail etc. But safari nor firefox works. It says: can’t find server (whatever site) and in the activity window it looks if safari tries to open files (in the safari preferences-folder) in stead of http. Same applies to Firefox, so maybe it has more to do with HTTP in general?
What goes wrong? What to do? I tried the following on the host terminal (tips from Apple)
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
and
defaults delete com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled
but that did not help,

I'm still wondering why it happens now at this moment in time...
PC does seem to be a bit odd & inconsistent, the few times I've tested with it, at least so far as we content filtering goes; and if I remember rightly, you're not the first to report previously ok settings suddenly preventing some or all internet until pc is switched off altogether.

Cannot log in to Google "Accounts" with Safari

I cannot seem to login and use Google Services with Safari 2.04.
This started when I discovered I was unable to log in to google calendar in Safari, and became a support ticket to Google (which is still pending) and is really confounding me.
What happens is that I go to go to http://www.google.com/accounts and attempt to login. Once I hit the submit button, accounts page plainly refreshes. However, if I put in a totaly invalid user or password, I will get a message telling me the user or pass is invalid.
In Firefox, if I attempt the same scenario from google.com/accounts, after submit, I get the page that shows me all the services available for me to use, like gMail, calendar, etc.
Here's what I've already tried.
Safari troubleshooting...
- backup/remove ~/Library/Safari
- backup/remove ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari
- backup/remove ~/Library/Caches/Safari
- backup/remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist
- backup/remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
- backup/remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
- backup/remove ~/Library/Cookies
After removing all the above, Safari is basically back to Apple's factory default settings. Even after all this, Safari still cannot log in. The same behaviour occurs when I hit the submit button, I'm just brought right back to the same page I started at, and am not logged in. Calendar never renders, or I'm left looking at the accounts log in screen.
It's notable that this issue does not appear to be specific to my google account, but specific to one particular Mac I use. I am able to login to google/accounts on my laptop, but not on my office machine using Safari.
To make it even more mind numbing, it seems to be specific to a user profile on my office Mac. I tried creating a new user account on this same machine, and with the fresh clean home directory, was able to login to google accounts, calendar, etc. So, obviously, a totally clean home directory, library, app support, etc results in usability.
I'm not sure where else to go with this. Are there other supporting files to Safari within my home directory that I missed removing to set it back to "clean". I cannot imagine the problem being specific to the application bundle for Safari since each user on the computer is using the same one, this behaviour must be related to something within the user home directory somewhere.
Anyone else seen this same behaviour and know how to fix it, preferably without just creating a new user and home dir.

P.S you did make sure to QUIT Safari before removing the cache folder
etc.. correct, if it is not QUIT it will recreate the same corrupt, files & or folders.

I have huge lag with Safari's Reading List using a rMBP. I have probably 80 articles saved, which is likely the cause of the lag. Is there any way to export that list of articles so as to be able to delete them from Reading List but still have a record?

I'm currently dealing with this issue myself, except that my rMBP has NO articles in the reading list. It's a brand new rMBP too, purchased just this week, with the 2.6 Ghz Processor & 16GB of RAM.
Let's see what we can find. I may just take it back to the Apple Store.

Connection issues with Safari 3

I'm having some connection issues with Safari 3.
When I connect wirelessly, Safari won't load any web pages. I go and use Firefox and everything is just peachy.
I've reset Safari, emptied the cache and whatnot. I went in and checked the permissions, everything checks out.
When I connect with Ethernet, there's nothing wrong, which is my dilemma.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of posts in the Leopard forum from people with direct experience with upgrading from Panther to Leopard. Here is a relevant thread from there that should reassure you.:

Your system should be fine for Leopard, but you will probably need a current version of Photoshop if you don't already have it. See this download:

Also, Leopard doesn't run Classic (OS 9) apps.
One caveat - first make a bootable backup "clone" of your present system onto an external firewire drive so you can recover if anything goes wrong. You can use the "Restore" tab of Disk Utility to make such a clone, and there are also Panther-compatible versions of Carbon Copy Cloner (v 2.3) and SuperDuper (v 2.1.4), both excellent for this.
It's even possible to a create second Panther clone on a different external volume to create a "dual-boot" system, using that volume to continue to run old applications that you can't run with Leopard.

Lenovo T60 with intel core duo T7200 @2.00Ghz plus additional monitor (Lenovo ThinkVision) in extended desktop mode running Windows XP Pro 2002, SP2
1. Taskbar is configured to autohide: when Safari is the top (active) window, it remains on top. If the taskbar pops up, it does so behind the Safari window, because I cannot see it.
2. If an open Safari window is dragged to the external (secondary) monitor, then maximized, it disappears to the side. It is not closed. I can still find it via Alt-tab or in the task bar and can, by right-clicking ‘Move’ from the taskbar use the arrow keys to move the window back into place. Clicking to reduce the window, then re-maximizing leads to the window disappearing to the side again.
3. In general my impression is that this does not function at a ‘beta’ level, but more of an ‘alpha’ level. Still very buggy.

This is a beta...thats why they give you the option to report probs via the bug icon. Since you are having these probs try and report them, I am not sure if apple has the time to scan these forums to try and find the big probs that people are having. So unless you report bugs, (and wait until the final realease) then they might never get noticed and or fixed.
