Extreme slow booting speed

It takes it ridiculously long amounts of time to boot up into OS X. It stays for about 4 minutes on the beachball (is that what that spinning thing under the apple called?), then about 8 more minutes on the initial light blue screen (and it dims the screen during that time, too, after a few minutes. Un-dims again if I move the mouse), and only then boots up to the desktop.
But I have no problem booting on Windows Vista....
I have tried erasing the hard drive and reinstalling Leopard but it still does the same thing...
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem??

One thing to do is to check how many log in items you have--the more there are, the longer it will take to boot up since all those applications have to open. There could even be just one that is causing problems. You can just eliminate everything that really does not have to open at log in.

Macbook pro: Extremely slow upload speed

Hi,
I know this question has beed raised many times before me, seemingly from hundreds or thousands of users, but none of the threads I have found has lead to any solution.
My new Macbook Pro (15 inch), using Lion 10.7.3, is simply unable to obtain anything but an extremely slow upload speed, when using Wifi. I am using an Apple Airpor Extreme wifi device. My work PC, my older Macbook Pro (13 inch), all tablets and telephones etc hooks up to the same Wifi device and obtain all the speed they should, but my new Macbook Pro is sloooooooooooowwwww and sometimes cannot even initiated an uload speedtest at i.a. www.speedtest.net.
As mentioned, I am aware that there are plenty of threads on this, but I am not aware of any that provides a solution.
Is there a solution or is my new Macbook nothing but crAplle?

My subscription is 10 Mbps downloadand 2 Mbps download. upload
I get that (10/2 Mbps) on all other devices, other than my new Macbook Pro.
On my new Macbook pro I get 10 Mbps download, but only from 0 to 25 Kbps upload.

Extreme slow upload speed in Dallas area

Something happened to my upload speed last Thursday, it has dropped considerably connecting to most servers making many sites very sluggish. I have the hardest time just attaching a file in Gmail and the gmail chat keeps saying 'unable to connect'. Using FTP for my work is almost impossible. It's takes me 5-10 tries to upload a file that's not even 50KB.
I've called Verizon tech support and went through different diagnostics and then they sent a new router, which still didn't help. Here's what I concluded so far:
It's not the router
It's not the computer since it happens on every machine
It's not the wiring since I can get good speed test connecting to some servers.
It's not the servers that i'm connecting to; everything works when i'm at work or on the phone.
I have 15/5, I've attached some speed test results.
Verizon's own speed test page even timed our during upload, which was stuck under 0.5 when it was about to finish.
Anyone else experiencing this? Verizon say my issue is currently with the engineers, but I have no idea how long that wait to be.

Is there any Verizon representative that can escalate my issue?
Basically a tech came last Saturday and wasn't able to figure out what was wrong and left and closed my ticket. Whenever I call back now they're just telling me it's my computer, which is completely FALSE. All my 5-6 computer just doesn't happen to have slow upload speed of the sudden and require modification to RWin buffer as the suggested by the on-site tech. Verizon phone support bluntly told me they can't do anything further and would charge me for coming out again to replicate my issue.
Things the tech have already tried:
-Run Fios Optimizer multiple times on multiple computers.
-Replaced router
-Replaced ONT
-Rebooted PON card
Upload speed still sporadic, works perfect on some speedtests, but it's less than 0.5MB on many servers including Verizon's very own local speedtest. Gmail and any google site request is constantly slow. This site is slow and often times out. FTP to my own site is almost impossible if I want to upload a file that's bigger than 100kb.
I'm extremely frustrated.... There are reports of same exact issues in other thread, one seems to be fixed. Is there any way Verizon can look at that and apply it here?

S400u extremely slow booting

Recently, my Lenovo S400U started booting extremely slow (takes about 5 minutes to load up to login screen). Same goes with restarting/shutting down, it takes good 5 minutes until the power button stops lighting. Problem is that I've tried a fresh install and it didn't solve the problem. I also tried HD tune, Seagate SeaTools, chkdsk, WD Lifeguard diagnostics - no problems found.
My warranty is ending in March, but I can't afford not having it for a month or so because of studying and work, so I'd like it to get solved other way.
Any ideas of what should I do?

Solution :
1. Please try checking this Control Panel > Uninstall a program > Look for Express cache
2. If you found one
3. You need to uninstall it.
4. restart your computer and check the Boot speed.
If you did not find Expresscache or the Boot speed did not change
Try installing expresscache from this link.
And check the boot performance.

Why apps cannot be downloaded because of EXTREME SLOW DOWNLOAD SPEEDS?

I have iPad 2 with iOS 6.1.3
Starting from last months until today, I have a big trouble with my iPad about EXTREMELY SLOW APP DOWNLOAD SPEED, in both downloading new apps and updating the currents apps from store.
Only one app can take 1-2 hours to be downloaded. Some times even half day needed. Or sometimes process can finish with fail and says "could not be downloaded at this time"
IT IS PAINFUL !
I checked & did the following below, but I couldn't solve this issue. Please HELP !
- My WIFI internet speed of home network is Great, no problem about that
- I've already used a "Speed Test app" from iPad and it is great, no problem in the speed also
- I've checked the space and more than 30 GB is empty in the device
- I've completely disabled Genius Apps feature
- I tried many times hard reset by long pressing power and home buttons together
Nothing can be solution the the problem. What can be wrong about downloading apps?

Extremely Slow Render Speed - GoPro and Twixtor

Hello!
I am new to the forums, and slightly new to AE, please don't yell at me if there's a similar thread around, I had a look, but nothing really suited my exact case.
I've shot footage on my GoPro Hero 3+ Black, at 720p, 100fps.
I've applied Twixtor to the individual parts required, the rest is at standard speed.
I come across two main problems, one: The live preview is in really terrible quality, and is practically unusable due to its choppiness and blurriness.
Two, being the render time. I tried a two minute video with about 10 seconds worth of slow mo with Twixtor. This took 9 hours to render to AVI. I tried again with WMV, same deal.
I tried an even shorter clip (just straight 5 seconds of slowmo), this was a shorter render time, but still far too long to be practical.
I'm using AE CS6, running Win 8.1, 2.4gHZ i5, 8GB DDR3, and a 2GB GForce Graphics card.
I've tried tweaking the preferences for multiple core utilization etc etc, still no bonus.
Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is it always meant to be this slow?

Depending on the settings Twixtor can be extremely slow. If you have a lot of rolling shutter artifacts or motion blur in your original video you can also get terrible artifacts. Here's an important thing. MP rendering most likely will not work with Twixtor or any temporal effects so turn it off. The only way to know if your machine is behaving normally is to look at the shot and do some testing. Some shots just require a lot of tweaking to significantly slow down.
If you shot at 100 fps and you want to playback in slow motion then the easiest way, and the best way to start is to go to Footage Interpretation and set the frame rate of your footage to 29.97 or 24 or what ever your deliverable product will be, then drop the footage in a new comp with the same frame rate. No Twixtor required.
Now if you want to slow things down more or speed them up you are working from a much better place and the whole process will be much easier and faster to render. Twitter will also work better.

Extremely slow download speeds and internet browsing on Macbook pro

I recently got a 13"" macbook pro. System config - Maverick OS/i7 dual core/8GB RAM/750 GB HDD, Almost 690GB of free space available. I am expriencing extremely slow download and internet browsing speed. I have to wait for almost 10-12 seconds for normal sites to download. The app updates and downloads are painstakingly slow.
The internet speeds are working perfectly fine on my Windows Laptop, and even on my mobile phones. So, the there's no issue of network. Also, I have cleared safari cache etc, just to be sure. But nothing's really helping.
Can any one help me here.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

Help Please, extremely slow connection speed with ...

Please can someone help me with my broadband conection, it is extremely slow.
I have posted the stats from my router and a set of results fr0m the BT Speedtester.
I know the connection time on here is new, and I know to leave the router on permanantly, it is not normally swtched off at all.
My IP Profile is only 0.25Mbps. How do I get this reset ?

are you connected to the master or test socket? do you have other sockets? are you having connection problems with internet dropping out even though the router is connected 24/7?

Extremely slow boot. How to get rid of white screen in Windows only boot.

Hey guys I have a Windows 7 only MacBookPro 17". 2.8ghz core 2 duo, 4 gig of ram, 7200 rpm 500gb hd(passes s.m.a.r.t. btw)
It boots extremely slow. I turn the computer on and it stays at the white screen for around 20 seconds. Then it moves to Windows 7 and continues to boot from there. I have a video:

In a windows only setting how would I get it to just boot Windows without going threw the white screen? It also gets hung when logging in on a black screen.
There was a post on Ubuntu forums about Ubuntu only boots about doing something to get it to only boot the MBR. I didn't really understand if this would work with Windows 7 though. Thanks for any help.

Extremely slow DSL speeds. Up speed higher than Down speed. Please help.

I just purchased the 1.1 - 3.0Mbps hi-speed DSL package.
Verizon speed test shows .17Mbps down and .536Mbps up. This is obviously curious for two reasons: 1) the incredibly slow down speed, and 2) the down speed being slower than the up speed.
Curiously, speedtest.net shows different results:
2.45Mbps down, .55Mbps up

OK. It seems as though you're suffering from what some people call "Juniperitus." If you're on a Remote DSLAM that uses Alcatel Litespan equipment (Litespan 2000 for example) along with being connected to a Juniper Networks ERX edge router, there tends to be an incompatibility between the two pieces of equipment that causes TCP connections and pretty much any other form of transfer to see artificial packet loss, which results in transmission. This results in inefficiency in every transfer, so what you're seeing is simply a result of all of this. In the past when Verizon first installed Litespan, they were using older Redback Networks edge routers, which did not create such problems. I'm on a Litespan and happen to still be on a Redback in my area (one of remaining ones still in operation in my area) and I get my max line speed with no issue. It's unfortunate that these actually perform better despite the Junipers being far better edge routers in terms of capacity.

Extremely slow wifi speeds after Yosemite install

I "upgraded" to Yosemite and now my wifi speeds on this machine (iMAC) are extremely slow, like crawling. Was fine this morning before update. All other devices in the house (iphones, ipad, macbook pro) are all running normal fast speeds. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? Missing Mavericks already.

I saw a big (huge) change in wifi speeds after Yosemite upgrade, it was more noticeable the farther away from the router I was. I moved closer to the Router and speed was back to normal.
You can check your connection by pressing at the same time alt(option) and the wifi icon (at top of menu bar), a drop down list will show the connection's stats, look for TX Rate towards the bottom. After upgrade my TX Rate dropped to 5 Mbps! I moved closer to the Router, and TX Rate improved to 146 Mbps, Safari was browsing at normal speeds again.
I read other discussions, found a suggestion to rename my location, in System Preferences - Network - WiFi, at top of panel Location, mine was named Automatic (the default). As suggested, I clicked on the arrows, selected edit, and renamed the location, name it anything you like... I restarted the computer, and luckily enough my TX Rate at the farthest location from Router improved from 5Mbps to 39 Mbps. Still slower than before, never saw it below 80's. Don't know if the restart or the change of location name did the trick, maybe it was that Yosemite needed time to adjust to its new environment, regardless, there was some improvement.
I think there is an issue with Yosemite and WiFi that causes the TX Rate to drop more than with Mavericks as the distance from Router increases. Does not sound logical, but that is what the connection stats are saying!

Extremely slow samba speed.

I have two computers running arch linux, both with a samba server for sharing files between them. I'm experiencing some very weird behaviour. Windows users can easily download files from the server with proper speed, but when I mount the samba share with my laptop it is EXTREMELY slow. It's like 8 hours for 150 MB. My laptop also has a samba server running, and when uploading files to it, it is just as slow. There is nothing wrong with the connection, because when downloading from the internet, both system are able to get speeds at 800 kB/s. What could be wrong here:

I'm also having trouble mounting the 'dev' share. All the other shares mounts just fine, but when trying to mount the dev share i get the following error:

Sudden Onset of Extremely Slow Boot Up + Clicking Noise

I have an HP Pavilion Slimline s3400z. I shut the computer down as usual at night and when I went to boot up in the morning, the cpu started making a clicking noise, something like a slow-moving metronome. It took upwards of 4 hours to boot. I manually powered off the computer and restarted it in safe mode. After leaving it to boot overnight, I returned to find that the clicking noise had ceased and the computer seemed to function normally. I restarted the computer in 'normal mode' whereupon the clicking noise resumed and once again it has taken hours for the computer to boot. I have had the computer for a little less than two years and up until today it has worked great.
Other observations that may be of some relevance:
-OS = Vista
-the hard drive light flickers as it normally does
-I can open up programs, although they run extremely slow
-the only error message I have received occurred when I hit alt+ctrl+delete; it said something like "logon security option failed." I clicked ok and haven't seen another error message
I don't know if this is related to the Seagate issues (I can't tell if I have a Seagate hard drive or not) or something else. Please advise if there is anything that I can do to save the computer. Thanks.

Sounds like the hard drive is dying a slow death. I suggest to replace it soon, hope you have a Recovery Disk set? You should be able to replace the hdd fairly easily. Usually a couple of screws to remove, unplug 2 cables and slide the old one out.
If you have files that you don't want to lose and don't have a backup on external usb hdd or dvd's I would get that done soon...if vista Backup will run.

Extremely Slow Boot!

Help! I recently brought my computer to an apple store for a repair because it would not turn on at all (the battery indicators on the bottom of the battery and on the ring where the power adapter is plugged in were on, but that's it). The computer was sent away and when it returned it turned on, but now has a few new problems.
My computer now takes up to 10 minutes to boot up (it spends this time on the gray screen, with the apple symbol and the little circle going round and round). When the computer boots normally it is not unusual for all processes to run extremely slow. The computer sometimes boots normally (around a minute and a half) but it usually takes more than 6 minutes. When the computer is acting slow (in boot or in OS 10) it makes a light clicking noise like a fast clock. Also, my computer occasionally boots to Darwin BSD.
The sheet that I got when my computer was repaired said that my OS was reconfigured. One of my friends seems to think that they replaced my harddrive improperly.
Please offer any help you can. I'm upset because I have already invested a good amount of money in repairing my computer and I don't want to spend more money with apple's phone support (if it's a software issue).

Try booting into Safe Mode. This will take awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk. (Note that it will tell you "Safe Boot" during the startup process if you have done it correctly.)
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up, restart normally, and go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, and repair permissions on it.
See if a little hard drive maintenance helps things out.

Anybody seeing extremely slow write speed (50K/s) over Samba?

Hello,
Is there anybody seeing a extremely slow write (around 60 kB/s) on internal/external hard disk of TimeCapsule from a Ubuntu Box(9.10) box mounted as Samba/CIFS? Frustrating!!

can you pleeeaase give me instructions on how to set up a connection between a TC and Linux. I have been trying to figure this out for a while (being a noob at Linux doesnt help).
