  • Slow speed during peak hours for over a year

For over a year now my connection speed has slowed during peak hours, at first it would start around 6pm and drop to 5meg or so untill midnight at which point it would go back up to 8meg all night and morning.
As the year has gone on it has gotten worse and worse to the point now where it starts around 2pm and plummits to 1.5-2meg and remains at that till midnight at which point it goes back to 8meg.
I have been trying to get help with this from @BTCare on twitter for serveral months now and have gotten absolutely no where, every time i get the same old "are you on wireless or wired", "try a different router/microfilter", "try another PC", "run a diagnostic test on our speed tester" etc etc and at the end of it they go silent and then when i try and get some kind of update we are back to square one of being told to fill out my details on the website to open a NEW ticket even though i currently have 5 or 6 open tickets for the same **bleep** issue.
So i've come to try my luck here before i throw in the towel and just get rid of the **bleep** line alltogether as it is currently a waste of money.

  • DSL is being slow during peak hours

I've upgraded my plan to the 7.1mb and during peak hours I've been experiencing slow dsl speeds from around 7pm-12am. My speeds fluctuates between 2-3mb download speed, while the upload speed is unaffected. During morning, and afternoon my speed is solid at 6.5mb download. I never had this issue when I was on my old 3mb plan.
I have called verizon tech support, but that was pointless and waste of time. Wasted one hour on the phone, with the lvl 1 tech who was trying to put the blame on my computer. Anyways here is my stats, and speed test. I have 7500 modem.
This is 100%, congestion on the server during peak, can someone please help resolve this issue so they move me to non congested server. Thank you.

  • Slow speeds during peak evening hours (overloaded tower?)

Is anyone else experiencing slow download speeds during peak evening hours?  Has been happening the last 3-4 weeks.
Here's what I get during the day:
Here's what I get on many (not all) nights during the last 3-4 weeks:
The UL speeds take only a minor hit. DL speeds are 1/4 of what they normally are during the day. Ping times triple. RSSI is unaffected.
Same results on both my Thunderbolt and Pantech UML290, so I know it's not a device issue.
Tech support told me that the tower may be near its capacity. Really? Is the backhaul on a 4G tower really not enough to handle a relatively small town?

SeaJohn: Your 3M DL and 1M UL are below advertised specs.  I would call to complain.
For me, in downtown Stillwater, my TB has seen the following top speeds...
    (1) July-August: 30+ Mpbs DL and 15+ Mbps UL
    (2) September: 20+ Mbps DL and 10 Mbps UL
    (3) October: 15+ Mbps DL and 6-8 Mbps UL (at night, speeds are cut in half)
    (4) November: 6-12+ Mbps DL and 4-6 Mbps UL (at night, speeds are cut in half)
But, at night, the speeds tank. TB gets 4 Mbps DL and 2 Mbps UL. I hate to think how slow it will be before they upgrade the backhaul/tower.  At this rate, I'll be getting 3G speeds in January.
4GLTE on Verizon used to be much faster than HSPA+ on AT&T. Now, at least here, there's no longer a clear winner.
Speeds are back to slow as usual (these are on the UML290)...

  • Extremely poor performance to various websites during peak hours - peering issue?

Since approximately 26 Jan 2015, we have been experiencing extremely poor performance to several specific websites during peak hours, 9pm-11pm.  Page loads take many minutes (or never complete), etc.  Many other sites are perfectly fine, and if I connect to the same sites at the same time through my work VPN, they perform extremly well (under 1sec).  There is no correlation between OS or browser and the poor performance (tested on Windows, OSX, Linux) and speedtest typically reports over 80/80.
I've not caught any packet loss using periodic pings.  Traceroutes indicate a bunch of different routes being used (I assume this is expected for CDNs), but here's one example of an obviously bad single traceroute:

The sites in question use the Fastly CDN - my theory is that the VZ-Fastly connection is under provisioned or is broken, but I'm out of my depth at this point.

"This is a nationwide peering/routing issue that was intentionally created by Verizon to create congestion and (1) extract priority fees from the likes of Netflix and (2) get customers to subscribe to higher speed tiers. This has been acknowledged by the FCC. Verizon is building new interconnections to remedy the problem, but it will persist for at least another 6 months."

  • Here we go again! MEGA slow speeds during peak hou...

    Hi folks,
I have noticed that during PEAK hours, my XBox Live sessions lag like a [insert expletive here]!
WHY, oh why do BT insist on throttling, nay, strangling their network to the point where it is totally unusable for anything more than basic browsing or sending/receiving emails?!?
I work reasonably long hours and only get two days off per week, so when I have free time, I'd like to game in a relatively lag-free environment, but right now, this isn't happening! Just tonight, in a game of MW2, I was experiencing such bad lag that shot registration was all but extinct!
I know that BT throttle P2P, but I don't use it and wonder why http and other protocols are being throttled as well!
    A speedtest.net result:
And one from BT's own speedtester:
Come on, BT! This is NOT the service that I'm paying for and if it continues this way, I'm out of here when my contract ends!

    Hi there,
    Thanks for your reply.
As I understand it, BT are only in breach if the speed falls below the "acceptable speed" threshold in your profile, which in my case, is 12000kbps. Even then, I'm almost certain that BT would offer the *cough* "solution" of changing you from FTTC to ADSL.
Personally speaking, I think the issue lies with contention in the network, either locally or at a centralised point. Unfortunately, the only solution for this (other than throttling speeds to the point of being unusable) is to buy in more bandwidth from BT Wholesale, but that of course, would cut too deeply into BT's profits and in turn see us all paying more for next years' service.
What is the purpose in selling/supplying FTTC when the network infrastructure is clearly unable to meet demand? Using marketing ploys to create this artificial/false perception of what FTTC is, a "superfast fibre service" (partial fibre) then once bought by the consumer only to be told that there are restrictions to be applied is merely lying. Even though there is a FUP many of the constraints once the contract is agreed to, are hidden from the customer. Then again this is the case with most companies.

  • Slowing down or speeding up music?

Iv tried numerous times to to slow down or speed up music, I assumed it was changing the tempo but that didnt work and now im at a loss of what to do, can someone help???

I do not understand how you are not getting results after adjusting the tempo in Master track. I do it all the time to listen to note lineup and such. Go to Master Track, look for tempo and either adjust the slider or highlight the actual numerical tempo and type a new tempo setting. This will speed up or slow down the recorded material.

  • Poor speed in peak hours - losing will to live - o...

    Hi BT,
I am almost at the point of begging someone to help me here, thank you in advance for your time and insight. It was with a heavy heart that I departed from BE There after Sky's takeover, and invested a little faith in BT. I started a contract for BT Total Broadband 3, and received an immaculate service for the first ten days or so of my contract.
Then, quite suddenly, I started receiving dramatic drop-outs in peak hours only. As I type this, BT Speedtest reports downstream of 18.95mbps (as quoted) but by tonight, it will be down to around 0.05-0.1. This is with both a wireless and wired test, and has endured, every day, for around a month now. I work from home, and it's losing me money every night; if I restart the router then it sometimes picks up by a few mbps, but within minutes has returned to where it was.
I have a query open with BT Technical help department who, unlike general customer services, have been very responsive and helpful! I have been sending them regular diagnostics, however no-one can yet seem to identify what the problem is. They first suggested resetting to factory settings - no change. I then ran the full diagnostics with the aid of a BT worker's call last Friday, including TAP3 and everything that comes after, and the verdict was that my Broadband is 'performing extremely poorly and that a fault would be raised'.
I found this reassuring; however another employee called me this morning to tell me BT had spoken to the exchange, and ascertained that supposedly everything was 'fine with my line'. She suggested I try testing the service using the master socket in the white BT box, however there is no response when I try this - I cannot connect to Broadband, or get a dial tone. I am keen to know how much of an issue this could be, and whether this represents a problem on 'my' side or BT's? I have tried changing filter - same result. I have also called 17070 and there appears to be absolutely zero noise on my line.
I am at my wits' end, and constantly curse the decision I made to throw away a connection that hadn't misfired once in three years for one that is effectively unusable in the evenings/weekends. I have also recently finished a full time study course, money is short and I am slowly suspecting that I am going to be strong-armed into paying exorbitant engineers' fees to look at a connection that, with my previous ISP, functioned perfectly. This is desperately depressing; please, please could someone try and help?

Hi there, thanks for your response
Connection time is short due to my testing via the test socket about half an hour before posting on here. As in the above post, there is no response from the test socket; the master socket works fine (apart from the obvious slow-down issues in peak hours). The master socket is the only one in the house, and I've used it without issue for years before switching over to BT.

  • Airport Extreme slowing down internet connection to a crawl

    Hi,
    Can anyone explain this one?
Just this afternoon my internet connection slowed to a crawl. Pages would stall loading and I couldn't even collect emails. There was a connection there. A Google search might take a minute or so but anything else would barely flinch.
So I did a few restarts and complete power downs of all my peripherals, computers and network devices but no joy. I called my broadband provider who did a remote test of my cable modem and confirmed it was responding well.
So I removed the Airport Extreme from the network and connected directly to the modem. All was fine, in fact that is how I am working now. But when connecting the Airport Extreme back in I have this extremely slow connection. I have looked at both the Network preferences and Airport Setup Utility. Both claim the connection is good.
I also have an old G4 in another room. It was switched off during all the goings on this afternoon but I powered it up to see if the same problem persisted. Sure enough it does, as it is also connected via the AE. However, the local connection between computers is just fine.
So how do I resolve this? Why would the AE cause such an internet slowdown?
    Thanks,
    Colin

I've had similar symptoms on my network. Here are network details:
    Comcast is the ISP
I have an Extreme and an Express set up as a single wireless network.
Extreme is plugged in to the cable modem. Express is an extension of the Extreme.
Devices that are regularly "on network": Mac Mini (G4), MacBook, Mac Pro, 2 TiVO Series 2.
    All Macs are running 10.4.10.
Symptom: Over the course of 3-6 weeks, wireless access slows to a crawl for the Intel-based MacBook and MacPro, but not the PowerPC Mini. All web sites, email traffic, etc., for the Intel Macs becomes painful: CNN's home page loads in minutes, not seconds, for example. Unplugging and replugging the Express doesn't do anything. Powering off and on the Extreme resolves the issue. For now. There are no pending firmware updates for the Express or Extreme that I'm aware of.

  • Graphite slows down then speeds up

My graphite BS (one of the very first ones) has worked great for many years. Recently, in the past month or two it has started being very very slow then going back to normal speeds then slowing down. It seems to be random--I see no patterns as to time of day, number or types of machines connected, sites being browsed, or anything else. The signal strength is always maxed out, so it's not that. If it just never connected, I would say it's done for, but sometimes it's very fast, sometimes painfully slow. Can it be slowly dying?

I have a snow ABS, but I'm experiencing the same issue. It's worked fine for years but now here recently my internet speeds are tanking. I have a 5 Mbps cable modem but repeated bandwidth tests show that I'm getting 500 Kbps speeds or less on my PowerBook G4 1.33 Ghz. This isn't a Leopard issue because I'm still running Tiger on my iMac G4 which is plugged directly into the ABS and I get similar speeds with that. I also don't think it's a connectivity issue because I have a strong signal (3 bars usually, 4 bars sometimes) on the PowerBook, and as I said the iMac is plugged directly in. Now when I plug the cable modem directly into the iMac and run the same bandwidth test I get speeds in the 4.3 Mbps or more range.
I'd love for there to be some setting I could tweak to restore my speeds to their usual level. Any help would be appreciated. If not, I may have to break down and cop a new ABS. Probably will go for the Airport Extreme even though my PowerBook can't take advantage of the 802.11n speeds. I also have an Airport Express on the network for iTunes streaming to my stereo and it can only do 802.11g. I thought about getting another one to replace the ABS but I can't plug the old iMac directly into it. So I would have to pop in an 802.11b card to get it on the network and that would really kill the overall network speed. So an Airport Extreme should give me 802.11g speeds with my setup, and then if I ever upgrade to a MacBook Pro ... and if Apple ever releases an Airport Express that supports 802.11n I would be in a position to get top speeds. My only concern is will I fork over $180 for an Airport Extreme only to find that it gives me dismal internet speeds as well? I hope the problem is that my ABS is just old and starting to wear out. It has been running constantly for years. But could it be something else that a new Airport Extreme won't address?

  • Does new Airport Extreme slow down when used with Airport Express?

    Maybe this is self-evident.
If get the new Airport extreme and use an old airport express to extend it, will signal slow down to the old speed?
Does the AE have a greater range? Perhaps I don't need the Express to extend.
I live in NYC and there are so many signals in the air. It seems like having the additional airport helps keep me connected.
    Thanks.

The airport express is g technology not n technology, so it will be at least as slow as your old network. Also, I'm not sure but I think the the range will be a bit longer than with the old g system, but does not have the full potential of an n system.
I've set up my new system but none of my machines are n capable. I extended the system using my old expresses. The speed of the system is no greater than what it was before the n.
I bought the system to upgrade my technology because everytime my Applecare runs out, I get a new computer which isn't too far down the road. I've purchased an Apple TV which will also work better with the n technology when I upgrade. It's either buy it now or buy it later. I'm also hoping that some third party like Belkin will develop a PCIX card to provide n technology to those of my computers that aren't currently n capable. I'm sure there is many like me out there.

  • How to slow down and speed up a track in an arrangement re remix query

Hi, I've been asked to do a house/dance remix for a track where the client wants the track to start at a typical dance bpm and then slow down to the original track tempo 2 minutes in, then speed back up to the dance tempo...here's an example...around 1.20 mins is where you'll see this happening...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe3xLTQrvYM
How do I do this in Logic 9? I'm clueless...

you can set tempos in the Tempo List which is under the Options menu. In That window there is another options menu where the tempo operations window lives. You can set locators between which you can do tempo fades up or down.
