Extreme slow upload speed in Dallas area

Hello
Something happened to my upload speed last Thursday, it has dropped considerably connecting to most servers making many sites very sluggish. I have the hardest time just attaching a file in Gmail and the gmail chat keeps saying 'unable to connect'. Using FTP for my work is almost impossible. It's takes me 5-10 tries to upload a file that's not even 50KB.
I've called Verizon tech support and went through different diagnostics and then they sent a new router, which still didn't help. Here's what I concluded so far:
It's not the router
It's not the computer since it happens on every machine
It's not the wiring since I can get good speed test connecting to some servers.
It's not the servers that i'm connecting to; everything works when i'm at work or on the phone.
I have 15/5, I've attached some speed test results.
Verizon's own speed test page even timed our during upload, which was stuck under 0.5 when it was about to finish.
Anyone else experiencing this? Verizon say my issue is currently with the engineers, but I have no idea how long that wait to be.
Thank you

Is there any Verizon representative that can escalate my issue?
Basically a tech came last Saturday and wasn't able to figure out what was wrong and left and closed my ticket. Whenever I call back now they're just telling me it's my computer, which is completely FALSE. All my 5-6 computer just doesn't happen to have slow upload speed of the sudden and require modification to RWin buffer as the suggested by the on-site tech. Verizon phone support bluntly told me they can't do anything further and would charge me for coming out again to replicate my issue.
Things the tech have already tried:
-Run Fios Optimizer multiple times on multiple computers.
-Replaced router
-Replaced ONT
-Rebooted PON card
Upload speed still sporadic, works perfect on some speedtests, but it's less than 0.5MB on many servers including Verizon's very own local speedtest. Gmail and any google site request is constantly slow. This site is slow and often times out. FTP to my own site is almost impossible if I want to upload a file that's bigger than 100kb.
I'm extremely frustrated.... There are reports of same exact issues in other thread, one seems to be fixed. Is there any way Verizon can look at that and apply it here?

  • Macbook pro: Extremely slow upload speed

    Hi,
I know this question has beed raised many times before me, seemingly from hundreds or thousands of users, but none of the threads I have found has lead to any solution.
My new Macbook Pro (15 inch), using Lion 10.7.3, is simply unable to obtain anything but an extremely slow upload speed, when using Wifi. I am using an Apple Airpor Extreme wifi device. My work PC, my older Macbook Pro (13 inch), all tablets and telephones etc hooks up to the same Wifi device and obtain all the speed they should, but my new Macbook Pro is sloooooooooooowwwww and sometimes cannot even initiated an uload speedtest at i.a. www.speedtest.net.
As mentioned, I am aware that there are plenty of threads on this, but I am not aware of any that provides a solution.
Is there a solution or is my new Macbook nothing but crAplle?
    Best regards,
    n

My subscription is 10 Mbps downloadand 2 Mbps download. upload
I get that (10/2 Mbps) on all other devices, other than my new Macbook Pro.
On my new Macbook pro I get 10 Mbps download, but only from 0 to 25 Kbps upload.

  • Extremely slow upload speed on Airport Extreme

I've had a perfectly working Airport Extreme for about 3 years now and suddenly the other night it decided it would slow it's upload speed to a crawl. Speedtest.net gives me an upload speed of 15-20 Mbps download speed but a tiny .07 Mbps upload speed.  I've been through the forums and ttried changing my Ethernet WAN Port settings to 1000 Mbsp and 100 Mbps instead of Automatic and I still have the same issue with 100 setting and it won't even connect at the 1000 setting.  I've tried prior software versions (was running 7.6.1), restarting, and reverting to the factory settings and setting up a new network all to no avail.   Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

I've been through the forums and ttried changing my Ethernet WAN Port settings to 1000 Mbsp and 100 Mbps instead of Automatic and I still have the same issue with 100 setting and it won't even connect at the 1000 setting.
Unless your modem supports Gigabit Ethernet connections then setting the WAN port on the Extreme to 1000 will not work. Have you tried both of the 100 Mbps settings ... i.e., both Full and Half-Duplex?
The key here is what may have changed between the AirPort and the modem that could have caused your upload speed to drop. Depending on the generation of your AirPort, it can support LAN-to-WAN speeds up to 400 Mbps.
If changing the WAN setting doesn't help, I would suggest two things: 1) Reset the WAN setting to Automatic, and 2) Perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment, as follows:
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref:Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • HELP: Extremely slow UPLOAD speed (Long Island, NY)

A little over a month ago, I signed up for the Verizon double play, home phone & high speed internet for $29.99.  I have had nothing but problems since.  I am on Long Island, NY.
At first, we experienced our home phone would not have a dial tone during a rain storm and the dsl would lose connection.  After calling tech support, they sent a verizon tech to supposedly repair the outside lines.
Now a week later, I find that the internet speed is very slow. I am using a Westell 7500.  When doing a speakeasy speedtest the download is 796kbps and the upload is at 75kbps or even sometimes lower at 20 or 10kbps.
Called tech support for hours and finally they sent a technician to the home to test the jack.  He said it looked good and the connection speed was actually faster than what I was provisioned for.  He came to the conclusion it was a defective modem.  They sent me a replacement modem and I'm still having the slow upload problem.   To rule out any wiring problem in the home, I even changed out all the old phone wire to new CAT5 wire, and this did not improve the connection.
    Here are the Transceiver Statistics:
Transceiver Revision A2pB020b3.d20h Vendor ID Code 4D54 Line Mode ADSL_G.dmt Data Path INTERLEAVED   Transceiver Information Down Stream Path Up Stream Path DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 928 448 Margin (dB) 8.7 14.0 Line Attenuation (dB) 63.5 31.5 Transmit Power (dBm) 16.1 11.9
It says the upstream is 448, but I never get anywhere close to that speed.  My slow upload causes almost unusable internet.
I only have 2 phone jacks wired in the house and its all new CAT5 going to the NID.  The NID is new, that they installed when I first signed up.  One phone jack for the dsl modem and one jack for a cordless phone set.  The dsl filter is on the jack with the phone and the computer is connected with ethernet wire to the modem router.
Does anyone know how this can be fixed?  When I keep calling tech support all I seem to get is the run-around on hold for over an hour each time and they never fix anything.   My thinking is it has to be something on the copper line outside.
If this is the service you get with verizon, I think I'll be switching back to cable if they can't fix this real soon.

An upstream sync rate of 448kbps will give you 390kbps of usable bandwidth after overhead. Figured I would get that out of the way for you right off of the bat.
I see you're subscribed to the 1Mbps provisioning as well. Your line isn't syncing correctly on the downstream, as the correct speed for that is 1184kbps. Get Verizon back out to get that improved, and we'll work from there to figure out the upload issue. If there is no issue with your line, ADSL2+ may work , Reach-Extended ADSL may work as well. Short of that, it's turning the speed down more than it already is due to distance if Verizon can't find a shorter way to the DSLAM.

  • Extremely slow upload speed

After having no problems with my connection for a while it was safe to say I was content with what I had. Spoke too soon it seems. I have dropped from 1000kbps upload speed all the way down to only 383 kbps. Oddly my download speed has shot up. But this is a real problem for me because I upload videos to Youtube. Now when my connection was fine I could upload quite a large sized file in a fairly quick time (1hr and half give or take). But now that I've lost almost all my download it's taking me almost 3 hours+ to upload even small sized files. Very annoyed by this as all was fine. Here are my Hub stats. I've also noticed that my Line attenuation is a lot higher than it used to be as aswell:

So after checking for damp, loosely connected wires or damaged wires I found nothing. Had a power cut this morning which reset the Hub stats again. I don't understand why my download is going up but my upload is going down.

  • Extremely slow upload speed on mac os

I have a MBP and since a couple of weeks my upload speed has decreased dramatically up to the point where I can't send emails larger than 50kb. My download speed has however not changed and is ok.
I have the problem both wireless and connected to the router on a cable. The up- and download speed on my PC is jus fine, so it cannot be the router/modem/ISP. The problem must lie with my mac.
Does anyone have an idea what I could do?
    Help is greatly appreciated!
    Message was edited by: Chriss25

I celebrated too quickly unfornately... Upload speed is gone completely again. Funny thing was that it did work for a while. My PC is still performing fine.
I just did an online speedtest and download speed is excellent, but the upload test keeps running without result. Sending emails is impossible.
Any other ideas what could be affecting my Mac?
    Thanks!

  • Possible solution to slow upload speed

After my old home built rig died I built another. Speedtest.net consistantly showed at least 75/75 with old rig and new one was 85mb down and only 35mb-40mb upload. Having seen this in the past I explored. Old rig used onboard Atheros network interface card (aka 'NIC'), new rig has onboard Realtek NIC.
Problem: Slow upload speeds but only after computer has been unused for a period of time. We all do this.
Note: Every single Windows install by default has "'Power Management" turn off the NIC when not in use. To disable NIC power down go to driver properties "Power Management" tab and uncheck all boxes.
After ruling out the obvious - Your PC, Router and Verizon tests, and have flushed your browser cache and DNS, here is the most likely problem causing intermittent slow upload speeds:
TEST 1: Upon complete computer reboot (not sleep or hibernate) up and download
                  speeds are ok.
SYMPTOM: Computer first powers down (after whatever minutes power settings are set
at) and is then woken up.
    1) Newer Realtek NIC drivers have three settings of interest under the 'Advanced' tab.
1a) "Energy Efficient Ethernet" Default is 'Enabled'. Set to 'Disabled'.
1b) "Green Ethernet" Default is 'Enabled'. Set to 'Disabled'.
1c) "WOL & Shutdown Link Speed" Default is "10 mbps First" Set to "Not Speed
                  Down".
    2) Problem occurs when computer sits unused then NIC powers up again to the "10
        Mbps First".
    3) Though the NIC will eventually uprate to higher speed, it will start at lower rate thus
        causing the problem.
    4) My old Atheros NIC driver did not have the driver settings to save power and the
        Realtek one did.
    5) Other NIC manufacturers may or may not have driver based power settings. At the
very least go in the "Power Management" settings and uncheck boxes so NIC never
        powers down.
Common problem many do not think of in todays 'instant gratification' society. This happened way back in Win 3.11/95 days and continues to this day in all Windows OS's.
Hopefully others find this useful. And yes I shared this with Tech Support for their peer review process. Even if this works for some not all this is a common problem many tend to forget.
    ~Peace

Did it make any differnce to your speeds?
I have had this same issue on 2 systems for a year or so.  Both have the same realtek nic built in on the mobo - Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.  Both systems have the same issue with speeds.  have a 75/75 connection they both show a consistent download of around 83 and upload varies between 5 and 15.  I've tried changing drivers and got the same results.  Made the changes you noted and no difference.  I figure it's a mobo problem.  I added intel nics and that made a little diffrence - got the upload speed up to about 30.  As I have other systems that work fine - consistently about 83/85 - I just finally ignored the issue and never bother doing uploads on the defective systems.
Would be nice to know the answer though.

Very slow upload speed via infinity 2 (business) unlimited after phone line fix (street cabinet) ?
Had my line fixed today by engineer (no dial tone).
Download rate near normal but upload = 0.73Mbps!?
I reset modem and router after he left and appreciate my profile is probably in need of some TLC after a weeks line fault, but is this normal in this situation? I heard it can take some time to reprofile my line and before it was fixed it was even worse at 0.10Mbps
Just seems very low considered the line is now operational again.

48Hrs+ on from residential line reconnection my business infinity 2 broadband upload speed is now approaching normal speed levels.
What a 10 days that was all because some ass disturbed the cabling in the street cabinet!
Yes I'm aware I have business broadband and am talking about it in a residential based forum, but my actual phone line is still residential that it is supplied over and the business broadband product is much the same animal as that supplied to residential customers i.e. Infinity 2 Unlimited. Only the mail and option of static i.p. appear different - that is all.
    Jeez.

  • I have been experiencing excessively slow upload speeds.  like, what the malfunction.  does someone have an explanation for such?

when uploading a movie either to theater or to share, i have been experiencing excessively slow upload speeds, as well as varying upload time.
-excessively slow speeds, such as a 1-minute video requiring more than 1-hour 44-minutes to upload.
-varying upload speeds, as in the status circle will report an upload time of 1-hour, and moments later report an upload time of 4-hours.
also, when selecting "iMovie" as an application, it requires an excessive amount of time simply to load and appear on the monitor.

    Hi Julio,
We have removed the class-map for IPS and have done a clear local-host.
We have also changed the duplex (from Auto to full) and speed (from Auto to 100Mbps) on the outside interface.
it seemed the duplex we 've got was half when it was configured as Auto. We've asked our ISP to change in their side to full, but we've got half instead.
We did an upload test after those actions, the speed we got is 300KBps, it should be 8Mbps (download and upload).
when we send many upload at a same time, we can see from our monitoring tool that the bandwidth used is 8Mb.
We wonder we cannot get high speed when uploading a single file, the max speed is 300KBps.

Then Restore your iPhone Firmware with iTunes on computer. See if better. If not, talk to Verizon and see if they know of the problem and if there is a fix. If not, then make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

  • Rapidshare Manager Application slow upload speed

Can a mod please look into this, the application rapidshare provide to upload files to their server is being throttled. Not for the first time.
Before anyone says it's rapidshares servers, it's not, you can trust me 100% on that.
Usually it's 8Mb (less than half my max speed of 18.5Mb) yesterday it dropped to 2Mb and today it's the same..
By contrast my upload speed to filesonic is a solid 18.5Mb..

I am also suffering from slow upload speeds to Rapidshare.
Yesterday the maximum upload speed was 2Mb/s, I have spoken directly to Rapidshare who have assured me that this definitely not at their end and that the upload speed to them is being throttled by Bt.
I remember a few years ago that I was unable even to connect to Rapidshare via BTinternet. After many denials by BT that they were blocking Rapidshare, they finally came clean and admitted the blocking.
Therefore I don't believe anything that BT tell me with regard to their operational practices especially from their overseas service centres who only know how to read from scripts!
If only it were possible to speak to someone in the UK, that was honest and actually knew what they were talking about.

  • Experiencing Extremely Slow Upload / Download Speeds AGAIN - Bradenton, FL

Experiencing very slow internet speeds for the last few days in Bradenton, FL area (4 Mbps / 4 Mbps). The exact same issue occurred approximately 2 months ago and took over two weeks to resolve. Turns out it was an area wide equipment problem that Verizon wouldn't address until they received a sufficient number of customer complaints. Very frustrating. Paying for sub-standard service. Looking to switch to Brighthouse in the New Year as this appears to be a never ending problem.

Here we are, 9 months later and I am AGAIN experiencing slow internet speeds. I am paying for fios speeds of up to 50/35 but am seeing 5/15 instead. This problem keeps recurring time and time again. Tech support refuses to do anything because I can get normal speeds to my nearest hub, but ANY hub beyond that is useless. When I do speed tests using other methods, I show slow speeds. I was on the phone with tech support for 2 hours only to be told that all the network technicians and gone home.
This problem crops up every so often. Tech support will not address the issue until a sufficient number of customers call in to complain. Each time the problem is finally solved weeks later and was due to some sort of equipment failure on Verizon's end.
Speedtest.net testing out of Ft. Myers is giving me 5.84 Mbps down and 14.87 Mbps up.
Speakeasy.net testing out of Atlanta is giving me 11.45 Mbps down and 23.54 Mbps up.
In the past I my router has been replaced and I have been told that the problem is with all of my computers. Hmmmm... I pay over $200 per month for fios service which includes tv and digital phone. I recently renewed my contract for 2 years thinking that this problem would not come back but it has for the THIRD time in one year. I have a 30 day money back guarantee with no penalty if I cancel my contract. At this point, I am so frustrated that I will be calling Verizon to cancel my service effective the end of the month.

  • 7.6.4 apple extreme slow downloading speed

Since downloading Airport Firmware 7.6.4 to my AirPort Extreme and Airport Express my down loading times have slowed.  I have a good signal on all devices.  I should have 20 Mbps of upload and download, my upload speed is 18 Mbps on speedtest.net but download is 2 Mbps.  When I bypass AirPort Extreme and connect my computer directly I get 18 Mbps of uploading and downloading.

I have a fast connection from airport extreme. But all of my 3 airport express routers, configured to extend the network, are very slow: about 1/10 to 1/5 the speed of the airport extreme: 45-50 versus 5 mbps (though it varies somewhat). There is no great distance, no major obstacles, etc.  Strangely, the upload speed is faster: 8mbps vs 5. There are sometimes a handful of devices connected to the network: a few phones, an ipad, a laptop or two. B
I've tried all the solutions I've seen on these forums, including downgrading the firmware. Made no difference.
The airport express units are roughly a 1.5 years old.
