Extremely large jpg exported files - help!

I was previously loving LR3 - used the trial for a month, decided to buy it - had really no problems.  The big issue for me is now the jpg export file sizes that are being created.  I run all my photos through the develop module to adjust the basics as well as draw in masks, and previously I had no trouble exporting the files as jpg, with the limit of size at 600kb and resized to 960x640 (original photos from 5Dmk2 RAW).
Then I bought the license.  From then on it seems that now whenever I do the same exact export it doesn't work!  I also used to use the output quality slider and set that at 100% and would get around the same file sizes, but now I'm getting files 2-3x the size of the previous exports.  All of the photos have minimal metadata (10 keywords or so, that's it) and the same metadata was present in the exports in the trial version.
Playing around with more export parameters and reading around on this forum led me to try and minimize exif data - this didn't even work - files could not meet the requirements or they still ended up 2-3x the size they used to be.
The interesting part is that when I would delete all development history and set the file back to the original pre-edited RAW and export there would be no problems!
Could it be possible that LR is adding the development data into the metadata that it is attaching to the photo??
This has completely shut down my photo workflow and really is making me regret buying this otherwise wonderful tool.

What I can see in the image is that it contains about (uncompressed) 750KB of XMP data, the major part of it relating to some "PaintCorrection" as follows:

This data results from heavy use of the local adjustment brush. Choosing "Minimize Embedded Metadata" upon export really should solve this problem for you. Please try again specifying this option.
But then, by doing so, you lose any other metadata (keywords etc.) also. To have complete control on what metadata gets written into the JPEG upon export, you could use Jeffrey’s “Metadata Wrangler” Lightroom Plugin.
I noticed one strange thing within the XMP data in your JPEG:
The data seems to be formatted differently than what I see with JPEGs I export ("HasExtendedXMP"), which I don't know where it comes from.
For further investigation, would it be possible for you to upload the Raw file and the XMP file belonging to it to somewhere (e.g. www.yousendit.com) and post a link to it here?

  • Windows Phone 8 Photos extremely large when exported to Windows 8 Computer

    Dear,
we're experiencing the following issue regarding the export of images from Windows Phone 8 to Windows 8(.1):
When exporting the images, the images are extremely large in size (approx. between 1 GB and 2GB). In this, it doesn't matter whether we use the Export function from the Windows Explorer, or copy / paste the files to a local directory on the Windows 8(.1)
    machine.
Could you please help us with this issue?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Thom

    Hi TJ,
my apologies for the delayed reaction. To answer your questions; The images on these phones are stored on the Phone Storage as well as on the SD card. Also , the problem isn't that all of the photo's combined take up a lot of space, the problem
is that the pictures themselves become extremely large (I just did a quick search on our storage directory, and found out that some of these pictures take up as much as 1,5 GB in space).
I also checked to see if the photos from the Windows Phone are identical to the photos on the user's computer, and these seem to be identical, except for the fact that the photos exported from the Windows Phone are extremely large in size.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Thom

  • Extremely large captivate project files

    Hi there,
So we recently hit a problem with Captivate, we use both english and arabic for our courses and one of our projects is about 27 slides (including 7 question slides) and the final captivate file size for the arabic course (not published) is about 1GB, however the english course is a mere 120mb using the same material, only difference is in the text.
I just tried deleting all the slides and selecing all unused data and deleted them for the project hirearchy, but I ran into another problem which is that the project file dropped 20mb in total and its still close to 1GB.
I would also like to add that the published release for the arabic course was around 80mb.
    Adobe Captivate Version :  7.0.1.237
Any ideas? let me know if more information is required..
    Thank you!

Holy cow!! Adobe has a 3rd level of support? Cool. Only
partially kidding ... I really didn't know you could access various
levels. Is the 3rd level where you get to talk to the actual
    engineers? Just wondered ...
Joel, in my experience it is often helpful to go to the most
basic approach in trying to isolate a problem. For instance, you
can eliminate the PPT being the cause of the problem by creating
    another to try importing.
You can eliminate computer resources (on your own machine) by
importing a tiny, tiny PPT file and work up to a larger one.
And finally (for now), have you tried to use Power Point's "
File > Page Setup" to reduce the footprint (size) of the
PPT you are trying to import into Captivate?
This has been known to help, and at one time years ago I even
had a formula of sorts to get the size of the PPT to compliment the
size of the Captivate stage (slide). Sadly, I can't find that now,
but I would think you should keep the aspect ratio (AR) the same,
    and that should help.
For instance, if the Captivate project is 800x600 (pixels),
the aspect ratio is 4:3 (as it is for the standard computer
monitor). Therefore you would want to set up your Power Point
project with that same AR so that the import process is not forced
to change AR, or to crop the imported images.
Hope there is something of value in there for you. When you
get up to that level of help where you are talking to the President
of Adobe, could you drop my name ... every little bit helps.
Have a very nice day JoelStern!!

  • Trouble Batch watermarking - watermark is not visible on exported files - help please

Hi, I am new to lightroom. I tried to batch watermark photos during export & once it is complete I click on an image & no watermark is there. What am I doing wrong?

It is a text watermark, but I also tried just the simple copyright mark in case I had done something wrong in the watermark editing & it didn't show up either.

  • Large JPG files from LR5.3 not to open in PSCC

    Hello,
I'm not sure if I'm right here.
    Wind 8.1.64bit
Most of the time I export photos from lightroom archive if I want to use a pic. Now I found that I can't load/edit this files in PS. Open yes, pic is to see, but there will be alwway a ring and I can't do anything. The only I can do is killing PS by TaskManager.
Open smaller pics ist just fine. So I found: convert the LR-Jpeg by another programm to 96ppi. Open it in PS an make it to 300ppi, edit the one and only layer, save it as usual Jpeg. Now it es a big edited Jpeg picture. (But doesn't make sence to change the sizes therefore)  But if I try to edit this again, I will get the same hanging PS after it was opened.
Maybe it is an issue for large files in PS? And has nothing wih my LR-exported files to do?
    Regards
    Detlef

What are the pixel dimensions of the too-big-for-PS images from LR?  PS does have a limit although I think it is 30,000 pixels on a side.
Can you upload one of these JPGs to www.dropbox.com <http://www.dropbox.com>  and post a public download link, here, so others can test to see if the image also doesn’t work in their PS?  This would help determine if something specific to your computer, perhaps a plug-in, or the video drivers, doesn’t like the image or if it is something universal in PS.  It could be something where PS is asking for more memory and the OS is taking a long time to give it some.

  • BUG: Extremely Large files 'hang' saving in CS6

We occassionally work with extremely large .PSB files for billboards and environmental graphics, anywhere from 5-10GBs.  We noticed that the files would 'hang' and not save while we were working on them.  The save percentage indicator would get to 83% and just stall out.  We'd have to completely restart our machines and use CS5 to finish the projects.
    Hope this helps.  Thanks--CP

Pete, someone else reported something like this a week or two ago, I'm sure of seeing it.
    Chris,
Have you left one saving for a very long time?
What happens if you disable compression in Preferences - File Handling?  Do you find the file completes the save?

  • Too large of a file size when exporting to Quicktime

In '08 when I export my movie to Quicktime the file is quite large, more so than the normal +1 or 2 mb increase from exporting to quicktime results in '06. How do I get back to the smaller file. The file I am exporting right now is 4.5 mb on imovie '08 but turns into a 20mb file after expoting.
Here is what I am doing. Exporting the imovie to quickime for streaming purposes on my website. I use 'export to quicktime' under share and then choose 'Movie to Quicktime Movie' in the 'Save Exported File As and I adjust the 'options' with these settings:
    compression: H.264
    Quality: Low
    Key Frame Rate: 24
    Frame Rendering: yes
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Dimension: 320 x 180
    Scale : Letterbox
-I am using 16:9 aspect ratio when I import from my camera to iMovie '08.
-I then upload the quicktime movie to 'Vital Stream Small Business Services' and copy ad paste the link onto the back end of my web site. The final result ended in this when I used '06 http://www.legendsgrouprealty.com/Listings_Details.cfm?PropertyID=30, now with the new movie I made with 08' the movie takes quite a while to 'download/stream'.
Any help would be great, hope I provided enough info.
    Thank You.

You have somewhat more control over the size of the output if you use the "Limit data rate to..." option instead of the automatic mode controlled by the quality slider.
You didn't mention the frame rate setting that you are using. Did you leave it at "current"?
The other thing you can do is load up a movie exported from iMovie '06 and one exported from iMovie '08 into Quicktime, then click on Window -> Show Movie Inspector, and compare the values. Make sure everything listed under "Format" is the same, then check the data rate.

  • Large export file when application contains a BI Publisher report

Anyone have an idea why an application export file grows dramatically when a BI Publisher report template is added to an application? I have an application that was 400+ KB and went to 88+ MB just by adding one report query and RTF template. This results in taking over an hour to import the application.

Each RTF Report layout is converted to an ASCII string to allow the import routine to load the rtf as part of the application.
If your template has any embedded graphics e.g. a logo then this SIGNIFICANTLY increases the size of the ASCII encoding of the template.
    Hope this helps.

help me please about export file is .wmv from final cut pro

    How do I edit.

Let me help getting your question back to something we might understand.
    - You are exporting your video AS .wmv
    and
    - when you export it, there are black bars left and right of the image.
    How do you fix?
Ok - what was the format of the video prior to your exporting it? When you edited it in FCP, what were the sequence settings? That will help get the right settings for flip4mac.

  • Exported Files are ending up too Small and can't figure out why? Help please!

I'm Exporting files with no constraints - film scans (jpgs) starting at 10-12MB are exporting to 2MB-3MB files. RAW images are also exporting that small. I've tried at 240dpi and 300dpi with the same results. The original film scan jpgs are 8'x12" at 300dpi and they're ending up closer to 5"x8". Any suggestions?

    BraedonF wrote:
the smart preview size was set at Medium and 5MB
You can't set smart preview size or quality (without a plugin) - it's fixed in Lightroom (e.g. size is 2560-).
The size/quality preference is for the "regular" (non-smart) previews.
    BraedonF wrote:
After re-linking the files (no longer exporting from a smart preview), the file sizes when back to normal.
But you're right - if original is offline, and you therefore export a smart preview without resizing, it'll be 2560, not the full-rez of the original (unless original is smaller than 2560), and that'll account for over-small exports sometimes..

  • I'm exporting files from a wedding and some of them are below the requested 12mb jpeg. I've shot in raw and have done a little cropping in places. how can I maintain at least 12mb. HELP thanks

    please help.
    I'm using mac
    5D mark III

Do you know why the images are less than 12MB?  Have you used too much NR or cropped them too small or are you resizing them smaller than their native size?  Or did your camera have reasonably low megapixels to begin with?
Not resizing smaller and setting the quality to 100 will minimize the compression of the images and maximize their size at their native pixel resolution.
Dialing back on the noise-reduction and/or increasing the sharpness will also increase their size but that may be detrimental to the look of the photo.
If they still aren’t 12MB at their native size and quality of 100, then you can increase the filesize by upsizing them to larger than native pixel dimensions, which seems silly, but if the contract has that stipulation then that’s the only thing you can do.
Having used a larger sensor camera, like a Nikon D800 or D810 is another way to have had larger JPGs to begin with.

  • LARGER Exported File sizes

I recently upgraded to LR V2 (also use PS CS3)
For some reason my exported file sizes have increased immensely
Typically I would convert from RAW to TIFF with the following settings:
    11" x 17" print size
    compression: none
    Adobe RGB1998
    16 bit
    resolution 300 DPI
These files would convert at about 90MB (manageable on my system)
They are now converting at a whopping 400MB (aging system can't handle this!)
Is this the new LR V2 standard, is there some setting I need to change?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Rich

No, you must be doing something wrong there. 300 ppi (NOT DPI!) at 11x17 and 16 bits uncompressed should be 90MB as you can calculate with simple math. If you enable compression (highly recommended for tiffs - it's lossless compression) you should be able to cut that in half.
