Extremely Long Render Times!! Please help!!

Let me start off by saying I am new to premier, forums, and video editing for the most part.
My content comes from (2) GoPro Hero 4 cameras set at 4k and a Sony FDR-AX100, also set at 4k.
MY PROBLEM (well hopefully the one you can help me with)
I import the content into Premier Pro CC 2014 (which is all up to date) applying color correction, fades, and titles. When I try to playback the files even with all effects turned off my computer will not do it. I need to first render preview files. So I select my in and out points and try to render but it takes, DAYS to complete. For example: A 3 minute selection on the timeline will take 70 hours to render the preview files. After it renders, I make a few more adjustments and let my computer render for a few more days.
I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
MY SETUP:
I use the Nvidia CUDA architecture as my playback engine in Premier.
Premier is installed on my internal drive. The footage & project files are kept on a WD VelociRaptor Thunderbolt Drive and my preview files are set to a second WD VelociRaptor Thunderbolt Drive.
My preferences are set to use up to 12 gigs of ram for Premier, leaving the other 20 for other applications. It is optimized for Memory. I have tried most all combinations of ram setting here with little luck. (again, I'm new and don't know what I'm doing.)
My Premier sequence is set to be 1080p & my sequence settings are set to a width & height of 960 x 540 with the program monitor set at 1/4 quality.
All the above and I can't even play a file. I have nothing else open or running and have stopped everything that would normally run in the background at startup (like the iTunes helper).
Anywho. Thanks for taking the time to read all the above. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A quick update for anyone stumbling on this later...
As it turns out, I am not utilizing the full amount of RAM available to me. In fact, I am unable to. As it was explained to me, my workflow is bottlenecked by my processor and because I have an iMac, well, I'm stuck with what I have until I can afford to replace the machine.
I have 32 gigs of RAM, and with my processor at 90% use, only 9 to 10 gigs of RAM are utilized.
I'd rather buy a new machine (custom PC) rather than swap to FCP. So the saving begins...
However, I am not up the creek yet. It was recomended I drop the quality/file size by using Media Encoder and converting all my footage to Apple ProRes files, replace clips, and finish what I started.
I began converting last night.
I guess we can chalk this up to Beginners Luck?

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I am experiencing extremely long render times for display HTML email messages in mail. I am also experiencing extremely long render times in Safari. I have Chrome installed on this same computer, if I goto the same website on Chrome and Safari, Chrome displays the page immediatly, Safari will take between 30sec and 1 minute.The only way it can get fixed is if you report it to Adobe. Can't find a playlist I created on my playlist or computer? I didn't delete it. I don't want to create it again because it took a long time. please help me find and recover.
Playlists only exist as part of the larger iTunes library listing so if you are not seeing it there it doesn't exist anywhere else. I know with my older version of iTunes it is very easy to accidentally delete a playlist. With newer versions it may be possible to recover it with the undo feature in the menu but this likely will only work immediately after the deletion.

okay, so i bought a movie on apple tv and it says over 2 hours of waiting time! also, it said to lower the resolution so i did, but it didn't help it only made it longer... please HELP!
Sounds as though you have a slow internet connection.
Check on a computer at speedtest.net.
For near instant playback, you need:
2.5 Mbps for SD
6 Mbps for 720p HD
8 Mbps for 1080p HD
Any slower for a given quality and it has to buffer in order to playback without interruption.
The buffering could be minutes or hours depending on how much of teh movie has to buffer.

Extremely long "reading" times in media browser
We are running CC2014 on 3 edit systems with a shared 10Gbit 36TB Synology NAS. Each workstation has approximately 12TB of local raid storage as well. We shoot P2 primarily and I have a little over 17TB archived on the Synology. Lately, we have had extremely long "reading" times in Media Browser on all the machines. I don't quite understand how Premiere is indexing and displaying as sometimes the "reading" time is relatively quick, ie. under 10 seconds and then other times it can take 3-5 minutes to display clips within a directory.
My Directory Structure is:
Media
P2 footage
(P2 folders/ie. cards are all saved with their shoot dates here)
Our total archive of P2 footage is around 70 cards.
It appears that when Media Browser is pointed to a P2 Card folder it is indexing the entire "P2 footage directory, ie. all 70 cards", rather than just the individual folder containing 1 P2 card's footage. Ist this the case?
Would I get better read speeds in Media Browser if I organized my P2 footage into more directories, ie. by year and quarter or by year and month?
Really need to know how the indexing works. Does premiere cache preview files for each clip and if so, how long are these previews valid. It seems that when I media browse a new P2 Card/Folder, it has forgotten any previous preview files that have been made and cached.
Any explanation or help would be appreciated.
We have copied large numbers of cards/folders from the Synology to our local raids to see if the latency was due to the network but the results are the same when we media browse on the local raid copies.We are working on this issue. Could you open a support case and submit your
project so we can have support see if it is fixed in a later release?

The iphone is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

Are you aware that if you restore your ipad that you will lose all data from your ipad and very difficult to get it back unless you had previously made a back-up of your data on itunes or in the cloud. and that would be on the computer you set those up on. (There are some independent apps out there that might help restore data but I don't have any experience with them...)
Also, I think if you restore on another computer you're supposed to have administrator rights and have the latest itunes update. And I think if you sync (if restoring is considered syncing with another computer, you'll be locked out of your computer or a new one.)
I don't know if there is a way for you to safely eject your ipad from your mom's laptop and find another way, but please read this

And then tell the story of your problem that you originally included and your follow-up efforts to restore given a suggestion on previous post (though I think you SHOULD AVOID RSTORE if you can.) The problem would seem to be in the firewall in your router. Have you tried disabling it? I assume you've updated the router firmware, right? Consider bypassing the ISP provided router (using it as a modem only) and unsing another device such as an Aiport Express.

I am doing a very simple project that seems to be taking longer than it should. I'm taking Sony HDV 1080i clips, about 10-15 minutes long, and adding an elapsed time window, and a time code reader window to them for a research client. 3 layers, no editing, no sound. I have place the HVD file in it's native sequence, so there's no rendering until I add the filters from FCP. Then, it takes from 11-15 hours to render these sequences, then another 2 or so to export the files as h.264 for the client's use. That seems really long to me. I made a compressor setting, h.264 1920x1080, 25000kb, so I might avoid the long render time, but that took about 9 hours. Am I missing something? I usualy work with DVCPro HD, and notjhing I do, with lots of laysers take that long.
Not looking over your shoulder, I'm making a few possibly invalid assumptions.
The HDV is your first major problem. You should transcode that to ProRes422LT on ingestion and build your sequence in that format. The files are much larger but they're uncompressed. Well, they're compressed but they don't require decompression before they can be rendered.
Exporting to H.264 from PRLT in 1080 is four to six times realtime depending on your system's specs. I't seight times on mine.
Placing your HDV sequence into a native sequence only means the base layer doesn't need to be rendered to be played. But the HDV must be unpacked, frame at a time, to be rendered with effects and that takes two to six times realtime. You say the clips are 15 minutes but you don't say how long the sequence that takes 15 hours to process is.
