Extremely long time of boot up, approximately 10 minutes. Need help!

Hello! The case concerns a MacBook Pro 13" A1278 (mid 2010). After a clean installation of OS X Mountain Lion, computer startup time has increased from tens of seconds (Snow Leopard) to approximately 10 minutes (it varies between 8 and 12).
The startup disk is indicated properly in the system. I performed a SMC reset, NVRAM/PRAM reset and it didn't work. Computer passed AHT tests, then the hard drive was scanned for permission errors - all of a few has been repaired. Next I scanned the disk for any bad sectors, which did not reveal any errors in this regard. Finally I used Drive Genius 3 to defragment. All these treatments did not produce any results! To avoid misunderstandings - the computer is fully functional in the sense that after this long, long startup, my Mac is working completely fine. What could be causing this extremely long startup time? Let me add that I live in a country where there are no Apple stores, so I can't go to the Genius Bar. Please help!

Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder. Select your disk and click on Check Disk. If this reports any problem you will need to insert your original install disk and restart holding the c-key until you see the grey Apple logo. Select language. On the next screen there will be a menu bar. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select your disk but this time you will be able to select Repair disk. If successful rerun Repair Disk to check that no further repairs are needed, then restart normally.
You could also run Apple hardware test to see whether it's a hardware problem.
Note that other software you might have installed can slow down the startup as can any that you have chosen to have started at login.
There are other things that can be done but report back to this forum after you've followed suggestions offered - either to let us know we helped or to let us know that there's no change.

  • User account dock is missing, account freezes after approximately one minute, need help...

Recently a friend used my computer and download JiTouch and BetterTouchTool to my machine without my permission. He may have made additional changes, and I'm not certain this was definitely the cause, but shortly after that - the next time I restarted my computer and signed into that particular account, my dock would not appear, if I attempt to view System Preferences (specifically the "Dock" option) or after approximately one minute, the machine will begin to freeze intermittently until about 30-60 more seconds when it's entirely unresponsive except for mouse movement.
Other accounts on the machine don't seem to have problems. I even removed the contents of ~/Library/Preferences without luck.
However, immediately after this issue occured I uninstalled those tools and removed their files from ~/Library/Preferences and seemed to resolve the issue. Then shortly after I installed JiTouch and uninstalled it to see if the issue re-appeared. It did not. Then I re-installed BetterTouchTool and eventually (after using the machine for an hour or two) the issue reappeared. I followed the same steps I had done before to stop the freezing but the issue persists.
    Any ideas? Thanks!
PS I got a new battery a few days ago (around the same time this issue started occurring) and this battery is draining more rapidly then the system is reporting it should. Possibly connected?

Looks like I can't change my Keychain Access password without knowing the previous one, which is mysteriously different of course. Nothing left to do but delete it and start all over again. Bummer! I hope none of those have been altered too. I just don't understand how all this happened in the first place though. If my HD drive is encrypted, and Virus Barrier X6 is active and supposedly doing it's thing, how did anyone get into my computer and change all this?

  • Extreme render time compressor ProRes (LT) to H.264. need help.

I have a 24 minute project that I'd like to export from FCP7 using Compressor 3.
Currently, the estimated time to completionis 12 hours and 36 minutes and increasing.
and (according to my Activity Monitor) Compressor is using ~375% of the CPU.
    i am frustrated.
    I shot with a Canon Rebel T2i @ 720p/60
All video files were converted to ProRes422 (LT) before editing.
    Using a 27' iMac w/ 2.93 GHz i7
I will be uploading the compressed file to vimeo, whose Compressor settings recommendations i have used and are as follows:
    extension: .mov
Audio encoder: AAC, stereo, 44.100 kHz
    Video Encoder:
    format: QT
    W: 1280
    H:720
    Pixel aspect ratio: square
    crop: none
    padding: none
    Frame rate: (100% of source)
           selected: 60
    frame controls: off
    codec type: H.264
    multi-pass: on, frame reorder: on
    pixel depth: 24
    spatial quality: 75
    min. spatial quality: 75
    key frame interval: 30
    temporal quality: 50
    min. temporal quality: 25
    average data rate: 5.12 mbps
every time i try to export with these settings, it takes upwards of 12 hours, and the only time a project has completed, the video file is over 5 hours long and more than 5 gb.
i would be delighted if anyone can provide insight and direction in how i can more effectively prepare my video for uploading to the internet.
    thanks

Have you tried setting up a cluster using qmaster in system preferences and submitting to the cluster in compressor.  That can speed things up enormously.  Check out the manual and do some searching here on how to setup.  If you can't figure it out, post back and I'll try to help.
If you need to do this regularly, I think Matrox makes a hardware solution that speeds up h264 exports.

  • Extremely long time when executing an export transaction data package link

    Hi,
I am working in a packagelink to export transaction data to the application server. The package which  I am currently using is /CPMB/EXPORT_TD_TO_APPL. I use it to generate an output file which I later use in a different appliation to register modifications applied in BPC.
It has been working correctly without problems for a time. The problem is that suddenly it stopped working. Maybe because of some changes in the dimension library (is it feasible?) . I defined and scheduled again the packagelink and it began working correctly again, but the time it takes to execute the process  is really long. Approximately it takes above 10 hours, which is an extremely long time for the process. In the beginning, the packagelink was executed in an hour and a half. Could anybody tell me any idea about what can be the reason of this problem?
Any help will b much appreciated.

    Hi Hari,
looks like you are hitting a BAD index.
Check the [DB50|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/9c/ca5bb3d729034aaf6f4cea2627c2f2/frameset.htm] or the DBMGUI - there should be warnings about this.

  • Computer still taking a long time to boot

I have a late 2013 21.5” iMac (Model: ME087LL/A) with a 1TB hard drive (5400 rpm).  I just switch from Windows to Mac, so I tried to keep everything as simple as possible on the transfer of files.  I had only added Kaspersky Antivirus and Western Digital Tools.
Boot times and operation seemed normal so I transferred my music, pictures, and some files.  My computer started running slow with just one user and started taking a long time to boot.  I found that since I added about 24,000 pictures to iPhoto, the Mac was trying to send all these pictures to iCloud in the background.  I stopped using iCloud for iPhoto and that seemed to speed up the normal operation once the computer is booted.
The computer still seemed to take a very long time to boot.  It would now take 3 minutes to get from turning it on to being able to use Safari.  I uninstalled Kaspersky Antivirus and Western Digital Tools using each company’s uninstallers so I know they are completely off the computer.
Any ideas on how to get back to the fast boot time?  I am only using about 150 GBs of the 1 T drive so I don’t think that is causing the issue.  What should I expect for a boot time on a brand new Late 2013 iMac?  Or should I try to re-install Maverick and try to get a fresh start?
Any advice would be appreciated so I don’t feel like I made the wrong choice going to Mac.  I'm kicking myself because the computer was so fast when I just got it.

Seventy one thanks for trying to help me out.  I really appreciate it.  Log is below.  You are absolutely right. Kaspersky and WD look like they still have something (as well as google??).  Is there anything else that stands out?  How would I go about getting rid of them?  Re-Install?  Clean Re-Install?

  • Using Table.Join formula takes extremly long time to get results.(Why Query Folding doesn't work?)

    Hi,
I built a query with 4 tables inside (load from Oracle DB and two of them are quite big, more than millions of rows). After filtering, I tried to build relationships between tables using Table.Join formula. However, the process took extremly long time to
bring out results (I ended the process after 15 mins' processing). There's a status bar kept updating while the query was processing, which is showed as  . I suppose
this is because the query folding didn't working, so PQ had to load all the data to local memory first then do the opertion, instead of doing all the work on the source system side. Am I right? If yes, is there any ways to solve this issue?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Qilong

    Hi Curt,
Here's the query that I'm refering,
    let
        Source = Oracle.Database("reporting"),

        #"Added Custom" = Table.AddColumn(Filter_AlotHists, "Custom", each Table.SelectRows(Filter_WorkWeek, (table2Row) => [PROCESS_END_TIME] >= table2Row[WRWK_START_DATE] and [PROCESS_END_TIME] <= table2Row[WRWK_END_DATE])),
        #"Expand Custom" = Table.ExpandTableColumn(#"Added Custom", "Custom", {"WRWK_YEAR", "WORK_WEEK", "WRWK_START_DATE", "WRWK_END_DATE"}, {"WRWK_YEAR", "WORK_WEEK",

        SelectColumns_AoLots = Table.SelectColumns(Filter_AoLots,{"ALOT_NUMBER", "DEVC_NUMBER", "TRACECODE", "WAFERLOTNUMBER"}),
        TableJoin = Table.Join(SelectColumns_AolotHists, "ALOT_NUMBER", Table.PrefixColumns(SelectColumns_AoLots, "AoLots"), "AoLots.ALOT_NUMBER"),
        TableJoin1 = Table.Join(TableJoin, "AoLots.DEVC_NUMBER", Table.PrefixColumns(SelectColumns_Devices, "Devices"), "Devices.DEVC_NUMBER")
    in

Could you please give me some hints why it needs so long to process?
    Thanks.

  • Why outlook2011 mac version* takes long time to boot with OSX

why outlook2011 mac version* takes long time to boot with OSX

Okay, so after doing all of the above, the computer still takes between 40 seconds and 1 minute or so to boot up, and the VersionCue messages still appear. However I discovered that the "kdcmond cannot retrieve..." messages disappeared after I disabled my ethernet connections. So at least I know that that had nothing to do with the extended boot-up time.
I have heard that the more RAM you have, the longer it takes to boot due to the RAM count. Since I have 10 GB, maybe this is why?
I've included the most recent Console messages below:

  • [SOLVED] pacman -Syu took an extremely long time today

    Hey,
this is the first time I've encountered such an issue:
today I upgraded as usual (pacman -Syu) but the process took an extremely long time
(~20 minutes). The last time I upgraded was three days ago.
The culprits seem to have been the libreoffice-still and texlive packages.
Has anyone else had this problem? What could have caused this?

  • MacBook Air 13" is taking a very long time to boot up

My daughter purchased a MacBook Air 13" last 1.7 GH Intel Core i5, 4GB Memory. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter noticed that her computer was taking a long time to boot up. Apparently the bootup time has progressively lengthened to 3 - 5 minutes to get to her desktop. What happens is the boot-up process seems to stall on a grey screen and beach-balls until the desktop eventually appears. Does anyone have any idea of what could be causing this issue? Any tips, tricks, suggestion would be helpful.
    Thanks!!

I would consider doing the following:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

    Check App Store
    1. Tap "Settings"
    2. Tap "iTunes & App Stores"
    3. Tap on your Apple ID
    4.Tap "View Apple ID"

    ls -l /var/run/lighttpd/
And how are you spawning the php instances? I don't see that in the daemons array anywhere.
EDIT: It looks like the info in that page is no longer using pre-spawned instances, but lighttpd adaptive-spawn. The documentation has been made inconsistent it looks like.
You will note that with pre-spawned information, the config looks different[1].
You need to do one or the other, not both (eg. choose adaptive-spawn, or pre-spawn..not both).

My Airport Extreme cannot be discovered by my macbook pro. Need help.

New, out of the box, the AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx.
If you want to configure the AirPort Extreme using wireless, you must log on to this network first from your Mac.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen, click Join Other Network, click Show Networks, select the Apple Network xxxxxx and log on. No password is required. Then open AirPort Utility.
    Or
If you have a spare Ethernet cable handy, connect it from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to establish a direct connection. Then open AirPort Utility.

  • Applying Software Installation Policy Is Taking Long Time During Boot Process

1 of my servers is having slow boot up issue. I have enabled user environment debugging and the gpsvc.log file has been generated. I have also used the Windows Performance Analyzer to capture logs and results came back that the GP Client is taking a long
time in the boot process. So, I reckoned the slow boot is due to GPO but I am not sure where to look from this log file.
I have only paste part of the gpsvc.log file here due to limitation in the number of characters allowed to be posted. Would appreciate some good advise on this issue that I am facing.
