Extremely Long Wait For The New Macbook Pro

I ordered a 17" Macbook Pro with the High Res screen and with some other changes. I dont know why it's taking so long; is anyone else experiencing the same thing, or know what's going on? I ordered mine on Febrary 27th and it is said it will ship on the 18th of March but others have gotten theirs already.

I do feel better, today at least. I don't know if this is bad luck, but I got my Macbook Pro 17" Hi Res LED version today. April 1st.... erm.... yeah....
I have it on charge powered down currently, so can not comment on keyboard test, or checking for bad pixels yet. It is about 3 hours to charge a MB Pro battery if I remember correctly with the unit powered off, so no testing for a while.
I would also recommend not getting ram from Apple. I did only because its a special tax law purchase here, so I needed to drop my income (sacrificed pre tax) into the next tax bracket down =) so I did, and I got Apple Care as well. It is a rip off in this country, Apple Care on Macbook Pro costs $500.00! (never do that again either, depending on how many issues if any I have over the life of this 1st Apple laptop).
One thing to point out, the new Apple manual:
MacBookProEarly2008UserGuide.pdf
No longer mentions anything about the proper charging and "conditioning" of the Macbook Pro's battery when out of the box for the first time.
Missing are the full charge, let rest (used to be 2 hours) after charge with adapter still in, discharge fully with adapter out, let rest (used to be about 5 hours) then charge fully again to calibrate the battery to its IC chip inside that controls it. No hints either that if long-term storing your battery, discharge to 50% and then store it long-term.
Guess that would make all these new first time Macbook pro buyers thing the system is too fiddly?
Cheers,
Jan

will there be an anti-glare screen for the new MacBook Pro?

    Hi j,
Apple rarely announces upcoming hardware upgrades, so we'll probably just have to wait and see if that's something that happens in the future with the retina line. In the meantime, you can express your desire for one here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • 7200 rpm vs. 5400 rpm for the new MacBook Pro?

    Hi there,
I'm ready to buy one of the new MacBook Pros. I was going to go for the 15" 2.0 GH. There's one thing that's difficult to decide. Should I go for the 7200 rpm HD upgrade?
In principle it would seem that the default 5400 rpm HD would act as a bottleneck for the new and powerful CPUs. I heard some people say, though, that the 5400 rpm HDs are fast enough and that I would not notice any difference. Therefore, spending the extra money on a faster HD would be a waste.
There is also the concern about battery life. Would a 7200 rpm HD reduce the battery time considerably vs. a 5400 HD?
Since this would be my work computer, I would not want to sacrifice performance. So, if there is no significant difference in battery life and a considerable gain in performance, I would definitely go for the 7200 rpm option.
What is your experience and/or opinion? I'm anxiously waiting for your response so that I can go ahead and enjoy the new Mac Book Pro.
    JM

Thanks for your prompt response japamac. Interesting results. I wonder whether the results for performance, battery usage and temperature for the 7200 rpm that comes as an option in the Apple store would be similar to the ones you got for the 7200 rpm HD you used in your test.
One question, since the difference is quite remarkable in the synthetic tests for "Media Center", I'm curious to know what real life applications would that relate to.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Am I worth to wait for the new macbooks with snow leopard?

As the day Apple released the new macbook pro 17. I was considering about If I need to wait for the all macbooks with the new operating system. Because I just heard that Snow leopard will come with a 64 bit. But now leopard just is with 32 bit. Some of people said new macbooks with snow leopard will be different from the old models(2008 late), even the macbook pro 17 2009. Can someone help me? Thanks a lot.

I think if you need a new laptop you can take the plunge. If you have a look on the apple website on the SL page you will note the following text near the bottom:
+Benchmark based on the SunSpider JavaScript Performance test on a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-based iMac with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and 2GB of RAM.+
That's the sort of specs for a machine that would run the OS well...I think the new 17" MB Pro is well within that ballpark.

  • When will Firefox have support for the new MacBook Pro with Retina display?

The new MacBook Pro with Retina Display has a 2880x1800 resolution and is not going to work well with the current version of Firefox. I am running Firefox 14 Beta; is there any news on when you will update Firefox to be compatible with new display?

This no longer works on Nightly build 2012-08-14 :(

  • What cases are good for the new macbook pro retina display 15"

What folio cases are out there that don't damage the new macbook pro retina display 15" I keep looking but can't find any, they all seem to have serious negative reviews

be specific,  hard case or CARRY CASE?
hard cases are not recommended, trap in dust and junk and trap heat
A great carry case, and best made for the money are those made by INCASE as seen in Apple stores and amazon.com

  • I'm looking for a case/bag for the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display - any suggestions?

As the title says, I'm looking for a case or bag for the new MBP w/ Retina Display. I'd prefer either a sleeve or a backpack designed for it - not having any luck finding sleeves that are made for the MBP w/ Retina Display, and I'm thinking the ones for the other 15" MBP will be a little too big. Any suggestions?

    Look at these, very cool.

  • Should I exchange my new MacBook Pro for the newer MacBook Pro?

I have just recently purchased a 15" MacBook Pro. Well...4 days later I receive an email letting me know that they have just improved the processor and battery life of the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro. I called to complain that I had just purchased the computer and now the upgraded one is available. It has not been 14 days so I can exchange it, but will have to pay the 10 percent restocking fee which is about $210 dollars, My question to this forum is whether or not I should return the computer for the upgraded one? I think yes, but would appreciate all of your input.

As hard a pill as it is to swallow now, if it was me, I would pay the restocking fee and pick up either the faster i5 or the i7 version. Chances are either will outperform the 'old' machine you bought and in a year you won't even think about it, just be happy with the newer technology that includes hyper-threading and power boost. If your new machine isn't very busy, the turbo boost will take it to significantly higher clock speeds, and when it's quite busy, the hyper-threading will help you cope with the load. Win-win and sure Apple gets another $210 but will have to sell it as refurbished I would think so it's very fair.

  • Praise for the new MacBook Pro 17"

I just replaced my first-gen MBP 17" with a unibody 2.93GHz version and I can't believe the difference. The screen is BEAUTIFUL. It is so bright and the colours are so rich. I'm just in awe everytime I use it. It feels lighter, the keyboard is much nicer, the trackpad is a time saver with all the new gestures, the 6-8 hour battery life... Just everything is perfect! Not only that, but I can play Unreal Tournament III in Vista at the highest details at close to 60 fps. That just blows me away.
    Good job, Apple!

Here's the dirty little secret about lithium batteries: Heat & frequent full discharge/recharge cycles are the two biggest killers of these batteries. Fact is, lithium batteries really don't like to be discharged below 40% of capacity very often. I'm typing this on a 4 1/2 year old MacBook Pro, and my battery is still going strong. It's fine to leave it plugged in all the time, that's what I do. Once every two-three months, I discharge it to about 40% & then recharge. So, charge yours till full, and try to never fully discharge the battery.

  • Any perfect audio hardware setup with the new Macbook Pro?

I'm still not sure if to go for the new Macbook Pro 2.8 ghz, or the 6 months earlier 2.5 ghz model (march 2008).
I love to go for the new Macbook Pro, but I'm not sure about my setup. Now I have:
    - extern 7200 rpm bus powered LaCie firewire 800 hard drive
    - Saffire with firewire 400 (thinking about moving to Apogee Duet)
Will the express card really help? I've read that if you connect a firewire 400 device to the express card, the firewire 800 won't work at 800 speed, but at 400? Also that a bus powered hard drive doesn't work, and that it needs it's own power to run with the express card?
    Bottom line:
What would be the perfect audio hardware setup with the new Macbook Pro? I gladly invest in a different audio interface (or anything else) if it really fits and works as pro audio setup!

I've read that if you connect a firewire 400 device to the express card, the firewire 800 won't work at 800 speed, but at 400?
I don't think this is right. As I understand it, the advantage of having one of your devices on an express card slot is specifically so it is on its own bus.
Then both devices will operate on their own speed.
However, this is true for the older model Macbook Pros when you use both FW ports that are built in, because even though the machine has two ports, they each feed one firewire bus. So if you have a device plugged into each port, the one plugged into the 800 will only run at 400 speed because they're both on the same bus. Using an express card means both devices can operate at their own speed.
If you want the newer machine I think you should get it. Then you can buy a firewire 400 express card, plug your interface into that, and plug your FW 800 drive into the main firewire port. This will give you better performance from your peripherals than an older machine with both devices plugged into the built in FW ports.
    Good Luck!

I have a very old (by computer standards) MacBook Pro, and a newer one.  I've been using the old one mostly for iTunes, into which I have only CD entries.  For a long time, years, the old MacBook pro ceased entering the song titles.  This is very time consuming for me, so I finally investigated a bit further.
I discovered how to enter the track titles onto my newer MacBook Pro, and was so pleased!  But when I tried to do the same with the other laptop, it failed.
What I did, basically, was what the Apple Help suggested--choose iTunes General Preferences, etc.etc.  And yes, I did upgrade the old laptop to the newest iTunes version.
Am I just wasting my time here? Is there some reason why an older Mac Pro will not do what the newer one will, with regard to iTunes?
My older laptop is a 2.6 GHz Core Duo; it has 36 GB of "memory available."  The newer one  a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. It has 284 GB of memory available.
Both are using the same version of Snow Leopard--10.6.8.

  • I am thinking of getting my first Macbook pro for uni and was just wondering which one would be the best? The macbook pro or macbook pro with retina display? or even wait for the new release in 2013 ?

I am thinking of getting my first Macbook pro for uni and was just wondering which one would be the best? The macbook pro or macbook pro with retina display? or even wait for the new release in 2013 ?

If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences.  If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section.  Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.
    Ciao.

  • Should i buy macbook Pro now??? or wait for the new model in 2012..???

i want to buy MacBook Pro....so... should i wait for the new model or???

Your question is analogues to the same situation if you were contemplating the purchase of a new car.
If you need one and the current model satisfies your needs, purchase it.  If the current crop does not satisfy your needs you certainly can wait for a new model, but there is no guarantee that the new model will have features that will fulfill your expectations.
In short, your choices are dealing with the known vs unknown possibilities.
    Ciao.
