Extremely loud and damaging audio peaks while scrubbing through busy sequences (health hazard)

Hi,
I am editing in Premiere Pro CC (2013) and I have repeatedly experienced the problem while scrubbing through a busy sequence where a very short audio sample (milliseconds) will blast through my speakers damaging my speakers and my ears. It normally occurs while I am quickly navigating between parts of my sequence that have multiple audio layers which leads me to believe it is an audio rendering issue. The audio sample that plays is extremely loud (many times louder than the media in the sequence) and causes me pain, being a full time editor this is extremely damaging to my hearing. I need to have audio scrubbing enabled whilst editing and I am hoping for a workaround to stop this problem whilst keeping audio scrubbing enabled.
My system:
Audio playback set to built in output (I use headphones)
2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB (Cuda enabled)
OS X 10.9.4

7.2.2 is the last release of CC7. And as I already noted it contains the fix I was referring to, which apparently doesn't resolve the issue you're encountering. If you started this project in an earlier release of CC7, it's possible that it is the same bug and, though fixed in your current build, it's continuing to present itself because it's basically saved to the audio preview files. In that case, clearing the audio preview files would get you free and clear of the bug.
Note, by the way, that 7.2.2 is not the current version. CC2014 was released in June of this year, followed by 2014.0.1 in July.

  • My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) keeps freezing, the fan becomes extremely loud and the laptop gets very hot, what can I do?

    Hi there,
I would be grateful if any one could help me. I purchased my MacBook Pro  13 Inch in August 2011, it was the "Early 2011" version, which was shipped with Lion (I have now upgraded it to Mountain Lion last year).
Up until a few weeks ago, it was running fine. But recently my MacBook keeps freezing (A circular rainbow appears on the cursor), slowing down, the fan gets very loud and I often have to restart the whole machine. This usually happens when I'm running programs such as Safari, Preview or Microsoft Word
I only use my MacBook for university work so I only have Microsoft Office and iWork installed, nothing else. I've only used 19gb out of the 320gb available. I've also reseted my MacBook to its factory settings but that hasn't fixed the problem.
I've checked my AppleCare status and it says:
    Repairs and Service Coverage: Active
Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under a custom agreement.
For more information about your coverage, please contact us.
Estimated Expiration Date: 24 August 2014
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to how I can resolve these problems, as it is stopping me from doing my work?
    Many thanks.

Call Apple and make a appointment, backup your use data off the machine to a external drive.
Don't bother with TimeMachine if it asks, too long and likley be corrupted and unable to restore, just drag and drop your Users folder to the external drive.

  • AE CC 2014 memory usage continually rises while scrubbing through timeline

When scrubbing through the time line in AE CC 2014 ver 13.0.0.214 memory usage just increases until there is none left and everything starts to lock up. Purging does not return usage to normal.

This only seems to have started happening fairly recently.

I too am getting serious memory issues with CC 2014 vs CC 2013 doing the exact same tasks. Not sure why, but the default settings for previews, disk cache, and memory seem to give me the best performance. So basically...
    don't enable Disk Cache
leave the GPU texture memory at 1500MB (Previews -> GPU Information)
left "RAM reserved for other applications" at 6 GB (in a 32 GB system)
don't check "Reduce cache size when system is low on memory"
don't check "Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously"

  • Continuously run a vi and pass data to it while going through TestStand sequence

I'm very new to TestStand and I feel that what I'm trying to accoplish is very basic, but I can't seem to figure it out.
What I am trying to do in TestStand is
1st step in sequence: Open a .vi (keep it open) and continuously loop through it (transmits a message every 5 seconds)
Continue to the next step in sequence while main .vi is open and running
Each additional step in the sequence passes data to the main .vi (running above) to transmit a new set of data
Any detailed help would be appreciated.

I threw this together in like 10 minutes so it's not the best but it's simple.  It updates every 1 second.  The key is using the Asynchronous Step type.  The other option is to call a sequence in a new thread and call a VI in there.  Take note of the usage of the Termination VIs.  Those are important when running Asynchronous VIs.
    Good Luck.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Can I update captioning while scrubbing through the media?

I'm researching the captioning plugin and the example application is great but it doesn't refresh the media or captioning in realtime as the scrub bar is adjusted. I'm assuming this is possible but I wanted to check first.
I'd need to trigger these events as I scrubbed :
    temporalFacet.addEventListener(TemporalFacetEvent.POSITION_REACHED, onShowCaption);
    temporalFacet.addEventListener(TemporalFacetEvent.DURATION_REACHED, onHideCaption);
Can someone tell me if this is possible?

For now you need a connection to a computer to update the OS.  And you can't sync your phone to your iPad.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.1.0) freezes while scrubbing timeline

Using a Mac Mini (late 2012 model), running Mavericks 10.9.5
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Quad Core i7
    Memory: 16 GB
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024MB
I am also using a 2TB Fantom G-Force Megadisk external HD to store all my media. It is connected via a Firewire 800 cable
I've been having a lot of trouble with Premiere Pro CC 2014. While scrubbing through a project, a frame will all of a sudden freeze in the program monitor. I have my processors displayed on my menu bar and I've noticed that whenever I run into lag time or freezing the 8 processors won't all be firing, usually just one is actually working at that time. I am also only running one program at a time as to not tie up my processor.
All of my source files are usually AVCHD. Most of my work is under 10 minutes long, so they are just short corporate videos not feature length movies.  I understand that editing native files can really slow your processors so with my latest project I consolidated and transcoded in the Project Manager to Apple ProRes in order to test that. Even with that I'm still having the exact same problem.
These are some other steps I've taken to correct this:
I've contacted Adobe several times and they told me that the Graphics Card is known to have problems and to contact Apple. I contacted Apple and they said there are no known problems with that Graphics Card it sounds like a software issue. I ran a disk permissions test and uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Same problems. Nothing has worked.
I've trashed my preferences as well
Really it seems that both Adobe and Apple are pointing the finger at each other. All I want to do is edit my videos without having to restart Premiere Pro every 10 minutes.

This seems to be an issue for me A LOT too. I can't keep Premiere open for more than 2 minutes at a time right now. The Customer Service rep from India did a "Team View" on my computer before and after 45 minutes finally fixed the issue. But I can't seem to get a hold of customer support right now. I hope you and I both find a solution soon. Good luck!

  • Scrubbing through long audiobooks

I have several long audiobooks loaded on my iPod and when i try to scrub through to late in the books, the iPod reverts to the list of audiobooks and is back at the beginning again. One in particuliar is frustrating - a 16hr audiobook which i had listened to all but the last hour, but cannot now scrub back to where I left off.
I can play the book through iTunes on my laptop so I believe the file to be intact and have listened further than I can now scrub through to. I can scrub through to about 2:30 from the end and it will play but if I go much further it resets back to the book list and to the beginning.
I have reset the ipod without fixing the problem.
has anybody experienced this frustrating problem? and if so did they find a solution or a workaround?

Try connecting it directly to the computer without anything else connected to the computer via firewire and see if that makes a difference. If not, try running the diskutility: repair on the drive and getting diskwarrior if you don't have it.
Also, try bringing it into a new fcp project and see if that makes a difference.

  • Autoplay ads with audio, extremely loud

So today, for the first time, out of nowhere, skype is now playing advertisements with audio while I have skype open in the background.  I haven't been in a call to see if they also play during calls, but from viewing other threads here I assume that they will. How can this be seen as acceptable in any way?  There is no way to remove or mute the ads, and even then they should never be playing audio in the first place. If this continues to occur, my regular skype group and I will be forced to move to something like teamspeak.  If the skype team actually supports or tries to justify in any way that this is an ok thing, I'm going to be extremely dissapointed.

Having the same issue.I noticed that the ads tend to show up more often when I am coming out of a fullscreen game... The ad that was there was some kind of comedy trailer.. I wasn't paying attention to which one it was because I was busy trying to shut it down, but I remember one of them was was a comedy trailer RIGHT before the november man trailer that was aired at exactly 11:55 pm eastern central on august first 2015.If that helps. It's really loud, and now that I think about it, I realize now that the ADS from skype are what are causing my ping to skyrocket REALLY hard in game, i'm being raised by at least 50 latency marks just by the fact that one of your trailers is playing silently( and by 90 latency if it's playing with audio)... And yes this is a consistant remark that your ADS are interfering with your service for people without a deluxe-end internet connection....

  • C4 audio volume is extremely loud

I'm using Captivate 4. A couple of months ago I had trouble with audio in that it was very low even when I shouted into the microphone. I tried using Sound Forge to record and had the same type of trouble, so I recorded from a laptop using Sound Forge, moved the audio files via jump drive to the office pc and imported them into Captivate. Lots of trouble, so I asked my IS department to look into it while I was in a class for three weeks.
Supposedly the problem is resolved, and when I use the Windows Sound recorder all is well.
Now when I record using Captivate and listen to the audio it's extremely loud to the point of distortion in the background. But when I ran the audio test it never came close to red. I've turned the mic volume to the lowest setting and turned off the boost. My IT people believe it is a "gain setting" in Captivate, but I can't find anything about gain settings in the Help files.
    Any ideas?

Captivate 4 tries to automatically set the gain level if you use the Calibrate option from the Calibrate Input button on the Audio Settings dialog.
You set the gain level by talking into the microphone while Captivate is calibrating.  Eventually after a few seconds it will arrive at a good level.
Captivate 5 allows you to set this gain yourself, as well as do an automatic level.

  • Is there a way to get the highest audio peak to display (and hold) in PPro CS4?

I have to deliver my projects to a client with the audio mixdown at a specific level, namely, no greater than -6db. It would be great if, while playng back the sequence, the Master level would show, and hold to peak audio level reached. As we know, the peaks do indeed display, but disappear almost as fast as they appear, so it doesn't do me any good. There are two problems for this: 1. I must be blind, or something. 2. My mind doesn't work fast enough to notice where the little yellow bar appears, and then remember it at the end of the clip. HELP. Thanks, Steve.

    Steve,
I do not know of any Hold feature on the meters. To my knowledge, only the red (overload) will "hold." Maybe I am about to learn something.
One could Normalize to -6db, but then I am NOT a fan of Normalizing in either PrPro, or Audition.
In Audition, the Waveform Display is more accurate than the representation I see in PrPro. There, it's pretty easy to graph the peaks and see where they fall (or "rise"). Do not know how SoundBooth displays, and if it's any more accurate, than PrPro. Now, PrPro is not bad, I just find it a bit more of an emulation, than what one has in Audition - maybe it's just my eyes... ?
Good luck and hope that someone knows of a display Hold.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 - audio frame repeating while scrubbing

In 2014 and CC, I often run into an issue where an audio frame will repeat while scrubbing.  It stops when I hit play or move the cursor to another part of the timeline.  Obviously, this makes audio editing a nightmare.  I've checked all the settings and I'm at a complete loss.  I've unchecked "maintain pitch while shuttling", but the problem persists.  Is there something I'm missing?
I've searched the forum, but haven't found any answers.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.0.1)
    Mac OSX 10.9.5
    2 x 2.4 Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    24 GB 1066 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB
    KONA LHe+ (5/14/13 firmware)
    ProRes LT (.mov)
    No third party codecs

Apparently this only happens when holding down the next or previous frame keys.  Individual clicks don't seem to cause the repeated frame.

  • No audio while scrubbing video in event library in iMovie 10

I just began making my first film with the new iMovie 10 and I have no audio while scrubbing the video event library screen. The audio plays fine when I just have it play in the event library but it vanishes when I scrub which makes it difficult to find start and stop points for the section I wish to use. The old version allowed audio while scrubbing. Does this new version not allow it? I downloaded the latest update this evening (11-21-13) but that didn't fix it. I've searched the tool bar for an audio control but have yet to find it. I've shut down and restarted the computer to no avail.

Go to the View menu. At the bottom you should see "Audio Skimming." Choose that, and you should start hearing audio as you scrub/skim video.

  • Audio Spikes (pops) while scrubbing.

I work for Adventist Frontier Missions, which owns a CC subscription. I recently updated Premiere Pro CC to Premiere Pro CC (2014) and so far have not had nearly as many issues as some others. Yesterday we recorded some voiceovers, I brought them into my timeline along with some footage, edited it all and adjusted the audio levels. No problems at all. I saved out the project at the end of the day, shut down the Mac Pro, and went home. I returned today and resumed working on the project. As I started scrubbing through the timeline I got this horrendous pop in my speakers far above 0 db, and saw the spike in the level monitor in Premiere... I had this happen a few times before in the past. Usually restarting the computer and/or premiere fixes it, but not this time.
I am running OS X Mavericks on a Early 2009 Mac Pro. The GPU was upgraded to a GeForce 680 Mac Edition.
I cannot continue doing any audio related work without terrorizing my co-workers and / or risk damaging our monitors. Any help would be much appreciated.
I can provide more information upon request.
    - Alexander Swensen

I found a solution to this problem, however I am not sure what exactly I did to fix it. I am not 100% sure i have fixed it yet, even now, but the problem seems to have disappeared today.
I mainly did two things that I believe helped to fix the problem. The first was to delete the entire cache folder, both the previews, the database, the files, everything Adobe Premiere uses as it's Media Cache files. I manually deleted those, forcing all my clips to be re-analyzed, conformed, etc. This was a small price to pay, and that process was done in an hour or two.
The second thing I did was to create a new sequence and copy everything from the problematic sequence into that. (on a fresh copy right after reboot from clearing the cache) The problem seems to have gone away for now, and I am guessing it was a bug with the sequence itself.
My project is still just fine, so I am happy about that.
Here is my theory for why this problem occurred.
First, the project was originally started in Premiere Pro CC. That version of adobe was also updated several times since the project was started. I then moved the project into Premiere Pro CC (2014), and I am guessing somewhere in there the process of updating the project to (2014) there were some things that got corrupted in the sequence I was working in at that time. There may be other things that haven't shown up yet as well as a result of that, but I am not totally sure. It may also have just been a random bug that got fixed this way.
I hope this helps someone else.
