Extremely sensitive mouse button

The mouse button on my Mac is very sensitive. It's at the point where if I even touch it with the side of my thumb, it clicks. Also, leaning on the space next to the button makes it click, too. It's incredibly annoying. The problem started only a week or so ago. I have no idea what caused it. Help?

I think that u messed with the preferences.
Try going to system preferences and go to trackpad on the new mac.
If its the older mac go to mouse and keyboard and there put the sensitivity down
and screw around with it until its right.
Hope this helps.
If not just ask me more help and give me details.

  • Ideapad S405 Touch Sensitive Mouse Buttons

    Hi
I have recently bought an Ideapad S405.
I have noticed that the area for left and right mouse buttons is also touch sensitive.
Because of it the mouse moves a bit whenever I press the left or the right mouse button.
This is quite a bit irritating for me.
    Any solutions ??
    Regards

    Hi Hitesh,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that the touchpad buttons are sensitive and move the cursor while the buttons are pressed. Hence, I would suggest you to change the settings of “Edge Motion Region” to resolve this issue. To perform this, please perform till the 3rd step from the below link and then click on Pointer Motion> Edge Motion Region>Then set the region so that it will not affect the touchpad buttons. Please let me know the findings:
    How to access Touchpad Settings?
Do post us back if the issue persists.
    Best Regards
    Shiva Kumar

    - Are you also having problems with the Home button?  Maybe it is sticking a little since to take a screen shot you depress the Home and Power/Sleep buttons at the same time.
    - I have not seen your problem discussed here before.
    - I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to restore the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Machine mistakenly thinks mouse button is held down while dragging

I have a bizarre, intermittent problem. Very occasionally, when I'm dragging files between folders, my computer thinks that the mouse button is still being held down even after I release it. As a result, I am constantly "carrying" the files around the screen with the mouse and I'm completely incapable of doing anything else since the machine thinks I'm mid-drag. As far as I can figure out, the only way to fix this is to reboot the machine. Extreme, I know, but I can't figure out any other way to get out of this state. This typically happens to me once or twice a week and I use my computer fairly heavily.
So, has anyone else heard reports of this bizarre behavior before? Any solutions?
I don't know if this matters, but I'm using a wireless mouse. However, plugging in a wired mouse while this is happening doesn't seem to be a solution.

Have you checked your System Preferences? If not...
Open System Preferences from your Application folder. Click: Keyboard&Mouse, and select the Mouse tab. At the bottom of that window change your Tracking, Scrolling and double clicking to see if that makes a difference.
If the wireless is a Mighty Mouse, try cleaning it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1537
Mice need cleaning periodically. Fingerprints, lotions, dust, and lint can cause problems.
Clean the USB mouse as well.

  • Mouse buttons 7 & 8 missing.

I've been using a [Logitech MX518|http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pcgaming/micekeyboards/devices/187&cl=us,en] quite happily for quite some time, however, (after the recent 10.5.2 patch) my mouse buttons (#7 & #8) have been "reassigned" to their original intent... increasing and decreasing mouse sensitivity. Mind you, Logitech has horrible support for the mac (in the case of the 518, none) and thus I've been employing third-party drivers such as [USB Overdrive|http://www.usboverdrive.com/USBOverdrive/Information.html] to fully map all the buttons on the mouse. I used to be able to use those buttons, but now there are no mouse events detected from them by USB Overdrive.
Undaunted, I installed the two other competitor drivers out there, [SteerMouse|http://plentycom.jp/en/steermouse> and [ControllerMate|http://www.orderedbytes.com/controllermate>... both of which were also unable to receive any mouse events from my missing buttons.
It is my belief that Apple added "support" for mice like this in 10.5.2 and such support is found somewhere in the kernel, but I can't stress how much this is a bad thing. My MX518 is now a 6 button mouse, and whereas I used to use every button routinely in programs from Photoshop to World of Warcraft, that functionality is now missing.
Help. (or, Apple if you're reading this, please fix it)

This is a Leopard user to user forum. If you use a product or program designed to work with Leopard or even MacOS then you might get some help with set up or troubleshooting. It is not a forum for advising Apple of anything. They don't officially monitor this forum for complaints.
If you are looking to haxie the OS then you should be looking at the web sites for companies that do this. Logitech specifically shows that they don't support this product for the Mac. It's not supposed to work at all. The fact that some of the features work is just a fluke.
USB Overdrive is probably your best bet. If the Leopard architecture allows buttons 7 and 8 or more than 16 buttons, they may take the time to update their program and add a feature for you and other users who they supported in the past. Hopefully, they get paid for their efforts in some way... They don't make any money in the price of the mouse. Just be aware that the method they use to enable a feature could be disabled by another system update in the future. That's the nature of Haxies.
Now if I could just get my old 12" Calcomp ADB drawing tablet with the Griffin ADB to USB adapter to work like I want I'd be very happy. Griffin dropped support for their adapter when Tiger came out. I decided that I wanted the benefits of Tiger, so I'm not embarrassed that I have very expensive unsupported hardware that doesn't work (at all).
Your perspective is short-ranged at best. Every version of MacOS has the potential to completely change your working applications and hardware products. Leopard is not 10.4.12. It is a new operating system (that you have to buy and install) that's very similar to earlier versions. Some companies don't want to update their products because they don't see any benefit for them (HP for example). The product, and sometimes the company gets forgotten. Vote with your dollar.

  • Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

    Hi.
My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch.
The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

    Hi there.
First of all, I'd like to say that Lenovo Customer Care have been extremely difficult to deal with and quite unhelpful; They are no longer returning communications and have seriously damaged any faith I had in Lenovo as a brand and the extended warranty I bought is useless. I cannot recommend their products to friends or collegues as a result.
Now that that is out of the way, what I've gleaned from the hours spent trying to get through to customer care and the minutes talking to them is that the problem is in one of three places:
    1. Microscopic crack in motherboard (highly unlikely, but still it's a hypothesis thrown around by my computer tech friends)
    2. The keyboard and touch pad connectors are improperly seated or faulty
    3. The RAM modules are improperly seated or faulty
As far as I know there is no solution to problem 1 IF it is indeed the cause. I tend to apply the following process to try to cover both possible causes 2 and 3:
    1. Remove keyboard and connectors from laptop
    2. Remove and replace RAM modules
    3. Remove touchpad connector (it looks like a tiny connector like how the two keyboard connectors attach to the motherboard)
    4. Replace all connectors very carefully and ensuring that they are fully installed
    5. Replace keyboard
That SHOULD do it in theory. It's worth pointing out that I haven't had to do this with my laptop since January, but the trust is broken. I used to have to do it at least once a week since I got it and it was a nightmare, especially in the middle of a busy college term.
    I hope that helps.

  • 'Loose' trackpad / mouse button ?

Ok, I am realizing I am whining (no pun intended ) - and all in large I love my MacBook.
But I keep noticing the mouse button, while working fine, feels very loose, can be depressed just on one side, has a bit of a gap. I checked a few macbooks in the store today, and all the buttons are 'tight' and don't have any play (i.e. unlike mine which has a bit of play before it hits the microswitch).
Other than being a bit annoying - is this something I can go to the Apple store with? Since the button is' working' - I assume they'll charge for a repair? Also, is my button really that unique?! Are all yours 'stiff and tight' (like the old powerbook ones) ?!
Thanks for your opinions in advance
    dan

I have the exact same loose button problem with my Macbook - though I have to say the button is very responsive (seems they might have tried to lift it slightly in order to give it more tactile feedback, as people have been complaining of "mush" buttons). I tried to live with it but it is quite annoying since that button is used so often. Also my left side creaks when you carry the laptop or apply some pressure (as the side goes slightly in and out). I was thinking I might be being too anal about a creaking side and loose button and should live with it...
I have already replaced new Macbooks for a completely broken (unresponsive) trackpad, chip in plastic above keyboard including strange black blemishes/spots on plastic that can't be cleaned. All of them have some degree of "lift" issues on the left side too, but mine was so minor that it didn't bother me. Of course, the risk of returning is always getting an even worse one. So far, none have exhibited mooing, whining, or dead pixels.
It is very frustrating to hear people complaing of the same issues, but on a positive note, the Apple Store has been extremely kind and happy to make any returns and the process has been extremely speedy and no-hassle. Also, even with these hickups, I absolutely love this machine and in my opinion it is the best laptop out there. I just wish they spent more time on quality control.

  • I used to be able to open links in a new tab by clicking my middle mouse button, but now that I've updated it to the most recent update it doesn't work anymore. How do I fix this? I really love that feature. It works in IE and Chrome but not Mozilla.

Ok, I used to be able to open links up in a new Tab using my middle mouse button. However, I updated firefox with the automatic Updates on the 26th of October and now I no longer can open links with my middle mouse button. Why? I use this feature just about every time I go searching on the internet so I really would like it back. I couldn't find anything that it was related to in the options so I turn this over to you guys.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

  • Logitech mouse buttons not working in photoshop cc 2014

logitech mouse buttons not working in photoshop cc 2014 winds 8.1. Is this a common problem?
I have updated the latest drivers and have a few buttons programmed with keyboard shortcuts that used to work in previous versions of Photoshop but don't work now.
Scrolling with mouse in bridge stopped working in cc butI see it is now working.
    any ideas?

Many Photoshop extensions are not compatible with Photoshop CC 2014 for Adobe removed support for Flash Panels in CC 2014. Many extensions panels are flash based.  Check with the developer to see if their blendmein extension works with CC 2014.
Adobe does not maintain Photoshop so it backward compatible with prior versions of Photoshop.  This brakes things like action scripts plugins extensions etc. Keep old version of Photoshop installed....

  • Mouse buttons and keyboard randomly stop responding on secondary display

    Hey,
I'm facing this weird problem after a recent upgrade to Snow Leopard:
In about half of the cases I'm switching to application windows on a secondary/external display the mouse buttons and Macbook keyboard are unresponsive. I have to keep clicking/pressing for some time or have to switch between applications to get them working, until they'll fail again after some time.
I tested it with two different external displays with VGA and DVI adapter, different screen resolutions, I tested the mouse and mouse software, both keyboard and mouse work fine with the same applications moved to the primary laptop screen, trackpad works fine too.
This occurred after the upgrade to Snow Leopard on a 2008 unibody Macbook. Updates to 10.6.2 didn't solve the problem.
I'd be happy if anyone could help me with this issue.
    Thanks

You do not provide the full model number but if it is an AMD processor you are seeing the start of video issues that plague that series. The freeze is caused by bad video memory which is a part of the video card in turn part of the motherboard. I have been getting a high percentage of people who do not respond back to posts so I am not going to write everything about your issue; it could be a book. I am happy to help further if you have any questions. There are some repair options but at the end of the day, you might want to consider a new laptop.

  • Why is it that sometimes when I use my middle mouse button to click on a link to open it in a new tab I will have it open it in an entirely new instance of Firefox instead of a new tab?

Occasionally when I click on a link with my middle mouse button, instead of opening the page in a new tab, it will open a new instance of Firefox.
I've looked through some of the settings and I wasn't able to find anything. It really gets to be bothersome at times because I prefer things to be in tabs instead of a new browser.

It's not specific sites. I can middle-click on the same link 50 times and it will open it in a new tab 45 times and 5 of those times, it will randomly open it in an entirely new window. I don't know what's causing this.
It happens so randomly that I don't know how to pin-point what it could be.

  • How do i disable mouse button 4 and 5 to open new tabs or windows?

Okay so I got myself a new mouse, its a logitech G700s mouse but I don't think that matters anyway.
The problem is that the extra buttons on the mouse (small buttons on the side) i have are assigned as "mouse button 4" and "mouse button 5". Now to a standart mac system these buttons are assigned to open a new window or a new tab in safari but when I customly set these buttons to something else it does both of those things. For example i sat the mouse button 5 to mission control (show all windows) but now if I am using safari it also opens something in a new page if I am holding the cursor on a link.
I just want to know how I can remove that function. To make the mouse button 5 and 4 do nothing.
The system I use to customise the mouse buttons are a separate program. I need to know how to disable this new page function in the mac software.
    Sincerly Thomas.

  • How do I change what the middle mouse button/wheel does?

I feel like an idiot asking this, but I can't figure this out...
I've plugged in a bog standard 2 button + scroll wheel third button mouse, but I can't get the middle mouse button/wheel to behave like it would in Windows.  If I click it, it changes programs, hold it it brings up the task switcher thing.  It's like I'm pressing command + tab.
I want it to work normally, where the program I'm using the middle button responds, not the OS.  Like in Firefox, I want to be able to close tabs with the middle mouse button, and open new links with it...instead all it can do is switch programs.
Is there a way to do this?  Am I missing something obvious?

Err...I don't know what happened, but I rebooted and now it's working like normal (knock on wood!).  Noooo idea how it ended up in that state!

[BUG FIXED, see "EDIT 2" at the end of my post]
I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.
    I hope this helps!
EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:
    https://github.com/greasemonkey/greasemonkey/issues/1406
EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. It hasn't been reviewed by Mozilla yet, so it won't be an automatic update for another day or two. All credit to "cannonfodder" below for noticing this; please mark his post as helpful!
