Extremely slow copying officejet 6500

Hi,  I've got an officejet 6500 wireless that has worked fairly well for the last year or so.  Recently it has slowed down when making copies (when printing, everything works fine and at the normal speed).  The copying is EXTREMELY slow--approximately 1-2 minutes per page.
I've replaced the ink cartridges and haven't messed with any of the settings that I know of.
thanks for your help in advance

First repair permissions.
Next I understand that if there are multiple copies of fonts that they need to be physically removed not just turned off.
Locate FontBook (in Applications Utilities) and  see if it shows any duplicate (will have a little filled in square beside each font). check to see which is newest version. keep that one then remove the old to a Blank folder. the zip of stuff the file and then trash the fonts left from compressing. (not the ones you left in original folders). and empty.
See whether Acrobat works better.
Report back. a Lot of times Microsoft if they have office have duplicates.

  • Very Slow Copy Operation on HP Pavilion 15 p001tx

Hi everyone. I recently bought the HP Pavilion 15 p001tx. Here are the Specifications if you need them
    Intel Core i5 4210U 1.7Ghz ,Turbo Boost to 2.4GHz
    4 GB DDR3 RAM
    1 TB HDD
    Nvidia Geforce 830M 2GB DDR3
My problem is with extremely slow copying/moving operation on USB drives. I mean I could get only 5-15 Mbps while copying/moving.
I am aware that I am using a USB 3.0 Flash Drive connected to the USB 3.0 slot but a constant 5-15 Mbps is ridiculus. I have a friend who has the same model and he could get 35-40Mbps of transfer speed.
I ran the HP utility and installed the latest device drivers for Windows 8.1. I have not run into problems while copying / moving files within the harddrive as it runs at a decent 45 Mbps , in fact here is the CrystalDisk Mark benchmark of my HDD:
    * MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]

  • 6500 scan option in solution center reacts extremely slow

Problem 1.It usually takes 5-8 mins for the scan window to show up after I press "scan to file" in solution center. This 6500 is extremely slow. I have had other hp all-in-one before and scanning has never been a problem.  I don't know how I would solve this. So I started searching a scan option shortcut. No luck yet. Anyone knows where I can find the shortcut? Problem 2.Since it's so slow to scan from the solution center, I tried to do it from the panel. However, when I pressed the scan button, it showed "scan menu: select computer". Then I pressed "OK", it showed "no scan options".I have searched online and it seems like a popular problem. I have tried all the methods found online, but nothing worked.  Thank you. I hope someone could help me on this. It's really frustrating.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that you are having trouble scanning with your HP Officejet 6500, on Windows 7. I am happy to look into this scanning issue for you!  To make sure I know the exact printer that you have, what is your printer's Product/Model Number? (ie: HP Officejet 6500 e710a, etc.) To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number. To verify the printer's hardware is functional, are you able to make copies with the printer?  In the meantime, I would recommend to try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens!  Hope to hear from you soon!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

My HP Officejet 6500 E709a All-in-One will not print more than one copy at a time.  This is especially disconcerting at Christmas time when you're trying to get Christmas letters in the mail!  Any help?

The cyan portion of the printhead may be clogged.  I would suggest running the diagnostics shown here.  If three levels of cleaning of the printheads does not resolve the issue you may need a new printhead.

  • Cannot scan, fax, or copy from HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One E709a

I can print from my HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One E709a, but I cannot scan, copy, or fax.  All drivers and updates are current; no recent updates were made prior to the problems occurring. I use Windows 7 64-bit.  When the printer is turned on, it always shows Original Loaded, but no documents are in the feeder or on the glass (I have already cleaned the glass and have ensured that the cover sits tightly).  I am having problems scanning, copying, and faxing. The automatic document feeder is functioning.  I have tried to reset the printer several times.
When I try to Scan a document in the document feeder (it does feed through) or from the glass, I get variable responses – rarely, it appropriately asks how I want to save/handle the doc (e.g., save as pdf), but the document does not actually scan and I am directed to Reload the document OR it displays No Scan Options. The document does not show in My Scans.
When I try to Copy, it shows the document as copying, but there is a long delay before the progress bar occurs.  When I copy using the document feeder, I actually get a copy (rarely and always faded-looking) or the copy prints out blank—both results are always followed by an error message to Reload the document.  When copying from the glass, the copy prints out blank with an error message to Reload the document
The same problems occur when trying to Fax.   Whether trying to scan, copy, or fax, the printer is making a lot of sounds of gears whirring.
Again, I can print a document from my PC without any problems – the problem is limited to scanning, faxing, and copying.
I have tried the HP Print & Scan Doctor.  It always stops at the HP Twain Scan step, saying the Scan process was cancelled by the user (not true).  When I click on Continue, it proceeds down to the Test Scan step, but nothing happens when I click on the Test Scan button.  It will only allow me to Skip at that point.   All of the other steps show green checks.
    This question was solved.

My first question is really going to get to the core of the issue, I heard you say that the printer makes sounds, but if you lift the lid does the bar A) travel across the screen and B) light up?
Additionally, perform both of these resets and let me know how they go!

  • Windows Explorer EXTREMELY slow at copying files from network, but robocopy works

    Hi guys,
I'm having a REALLY BAD performance issue when copying files over from SAMBA 4 to any Windows 7 computer. To copy a folder containing 50 files with a total of 10 MB using the explorer it takes about 20 minutes (!!) at a rate of 3-5 KB/s, but when using robocopy
the same folder takes like 3 seconds to complete. Also, the issue does not occur with older versions of Windows, like Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
Please please please come up with some ideas except the usuals like disabling Remote Differential Compression, disable autotuning using netsh, setting local security policies for NTML authentication or trying new switches / upgrading network drivers or windows.
I DID IT ALL, but nothing helped!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Copying files is extremely slow!

Suddenly I have a large problem copying files.
Briefly: I keep my iTunes library (mostly video - movies, TV shows) on an external drive. Suddenly copying a TV show (about 650 mb) that normally takes about 10 seconds either takes extremely long or causes a total freeze up.
What happened: The first time it happened it got up to about 30 MB copied and the estimated time kept climbing from about 5 minutes to 8 minutes to 15 minutes etc. My machine froze completely and I had to do a forced shutdown. When I tried to restart, the startup disc wasn't recognized and I got the folder with the question mark icon. I restarted in target mode to use Disk Utility from my laptop, but it didn't recognize the drive at all. I restarted with the original installer disc and did a hard drive verification. At the end I got the message "Filesystem verify or repair failed" and the only error shown was a difference in the number of free blocks. (maybe because I shut it down in the copying process?) I did a disc repair which ended successfully, and I could reboot from the internal hard drive again.
I thought maybe a corrupted video files was the problem, so I tried to copy a similar file over with the same result. Only this time, after the boot up drive wasn't recognized, it also didn't show up in the Disc Utility from the installer disc! Assuming I had to take it in for repair with a dead internal hard drive, I shut it down. But hours later, just for grins, I started it up again, and this time Disk Utility on the installer disc did recognize the internal hard drive and i could do the disc repair again.
I plugged the external drive into my laptop and copied a similar file over, which took the usual 10 seconds, so it is not the external drive causing the problems.
So I did a test by just using option-drag to make a copy of the same file, which didn't cause the total freeze up, but it did take over 10 minutes instead of 10 seconds. Same result with a similar video file, so the fist video file isn't corrupt I guess.
Everything else seems to be normal now, but file copying is extremely slow. The boot up time is also normal.
At several points in this ordeal I ran Cocktail and did a PRAM reset. I usually use Cocktail maybe twice a month and never had a problem, so I don't think it was the culprit.
Any ideas out there about what my problem might be?
    Thanks!

    Oops!
Just saw that I hadn't updated my hardware profile, so I just did.

  • Officejet 6500 Wireless; Copy a page, the printer prints a blank page

My HP Officejet 6500 Wireless is printing just fine when I print something from the Internet, but when I tried to copy a page today, the printer spits out a blank page.  Until today this wasn't a problem.  Have had the printer since March 2010 and this is first time with this problem.

Depending on your print settings the pages printed from the internet may be using the color inks (even to make black).  Try the troubleshooting steps in this page.  If black is not printing in the test page and the troubleshooting steps there do not resolve the issue see this page.

  • File copy slow, extremely slow

    Hi everybody,
I'm facing a strange situation where file copy from an external drive (USB) to my hard drive (a macbook pro late 2008) is extremely slow.
I'm trying to understand what is happening and got here to get some help from experts ^^
The problem arises on some files only and is not specific to the external hard drive I use.
Once a file start to copy slowly, cancel the copy and start it again does not help. It's like the system finds it hard to copy this file.
It is generally very large file (over 5Gb).
I've used the disk utility to check the hard drive but every thing is ok.
I'm currently trying to copy a 35Gb file. The ETC is 74 hours !!!
    Can somebody help?
    Thanks
    Pascal

    Thanks Chris for your answer.
I did rest the PRAM but it does not help. I just tried to copy the same file and the ETC is 305 hours
    An other idea?

  • NEW HP OfficeJet 6500 - Takes FOREVER to make a copy

I have a brand new (4 weeks) OfficeJet 6500 - setup went fine - printer is visible and operates via USB and hardwire to the network.  It prints, scans and faxes just fine.  But SOMETIMES (I haven't found a pattern) - making a copy (either with sheet feed or off the glass) will take forever.  I usually give up after 5-10 minutes of waiting and power cycle the printer.    This has happened a couple times - so it's not an isolated issue.
When a copy is initiated, the printer loads paper like it's going to print - also the scanner can be heard moving into position - at which point, the process will stop.   The screen is displaying an animated message (something like "please stand by - preparing to copy").  In short, everything LOOKs like it's going to work - but the printer just seems to freeze up at that point.
I'm assuming that the problem is software - because everything else works as advertized.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @bo1923 ,
I read your post about your Officejet 6500 copying very slowly. I want to offer my own suggestion!
Power reset the printer and ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you, such as a replacement or trade in. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and if you are calling outside of the US/Canada region,: click here.

  • Officejet 6500 e709n - slow wireless print & garbage then Bonjour works perfect - fix please!

Hello all!  My wife recently purchased a Officejet 6500 e709n so we could finally have a wifeless printer in the house. Well, we set it up fine but we quickly ran into some printing issues. It seems that when we try to wirelessly print any file larger than 300k, the data transfer hangs and causes a long wait time until the printing finishes (if it finishes). Also this causes garbled printing.
Try as I might I could not find a fix anywhere. I tried reinstalling / updating / resetting my firewall and anti-virus and nothing.
Tonight I installed Bonjour and OMG it works - no issues at all. This leads me to think that the issue is in the HP driver or settings or something. Now my question is, how do I get the regular driver to work?!
She runs a Gateway Netbook (windows 7 Starter) and I run an Dell Studio 1747 (windows 7 home premium 64)
Install went clean on both machines

This may be a router issue.  What brand/model router?

  • Extremely slow printing 8620c

I have purchased an Officejet pro 8620 a month ago and experiencing extremely slow printing ( 5 minutes per page).
I am using a Macbook air with wireless connection. The HP Officejet is also connected via wifi.
I have reinstalled the printer. I am using the normal printquality setting.
    Who can help me?

Hello @MartijnAmsterda , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're having issues with slow printing.  I would like to help!
I have a couple of questions that will help get to the bottom of this.
    - If you make a copy through the feeder or glass, does it come out slow?
    - What version of the Mac operating system are you using?
    - Do you have any other devices on the network that connect to the printer?
I'd recommend powering down your Mac, and performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then remove the power from your router.  Wait 60 seconds.
After 60 seconds, plug the router in, let it start up, and begin broadcasting.  Once it has begun broadcasting, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet.
Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.  Once the printer is up, power on the Mac, and try to print.
Please keep me posted.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
