Extremely slow laptop.

So, I haven't used my laptop for a while, been using my desktop. But I turned it on the other day and it was super slow.
Grub takes like 30 seconds to load.
Then simple commands like "ls" take 15 seconds, opening anything and everything, extremely slow, while writing in VIM it gets stuck often, etc.
My windows installation didn't even boot, I reformatted and just installed Arch, but everything was still extremely slow.
I did a memtest and got no errors ( I can run something like PuppyLinux just fine also -- which runs from RAM -- and anything on Live CD without issues really ), I also did tests with S.M.A.R.T and badblocks, no errors.
I'm not hardware knowledgeable at all, so: What else could be causing this? What else can I test?
Thank you.

  • Laptop running extremely slow, how do I fix it?fix it?

My late 2010 macbook pro has been running extremely slow lately. It would take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to start up and rests on a blue screen during that time. I even just got the beach ball while typing this, without any programs running except safari. I get the beach ball just by opening system preferences. I ran disk verify and found out my harddrive was corrupted. So I erased everything, reinstalled the OS, and downloaded the standard applications. I ran disk verify again and everything appears to be okay. However, it is still running super slow and beach balling frequently. I haven't even transferred all of my files over yet. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks!

Nothing large, activity monitor is using the most. I am currently on a college campus and went to the technology help center, the manager looked at my laptop and repaired disk permissions. It definitely is going faster than before, however I am still noticing some random lag.

  • Laptop extremely slow boot up & slow everything after faulty boot up! HELP!

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the right section of the forums but I sure hope it is because I extremely need help.
My laptop was working completely fine a week ago! But then, all of a sudden, I turned it on and it went to a black screen with a bunch of numbers and letters. It was asking me to put in the start up CD(?). I had no idea what to do and didn't have the 'start up CD'(whatever that may be..) with me, so I pressed the power button. It turned off and turned back on.
But instead of working normally, it took about ten minutes to start up with about five minutes of that being a black screen with a mouse after putting in my user password. And now every program I have takes forever to open and just everything is extremely slow.
Please help. I really want my old, functional laptop back.

Your best bet is probably contacting Toshiba Tech Support:  (800) 457-7777
The free version of Malwarebytes is just an AV scanner. Sometimes I use it as a second opinion AV scanner. I install it, run it then uninstall it when it's finished. It's advisable to have a reatime AV program. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, works well, and doesn't slow the system. You can get it HERE free.

Backup your files. Create recovery DVD's. Use good quality DVD-R disks. You'll need them to install the software if you have to replace the HD. If you don't make them and the HD fails you'll have to purchase them from Toshiba. They cost about $30.

  • Zoom (Accessibility feature) is extremely slow with multiple monitors [OSX 10.10]

When connecting an external display to my Laptop and using the "Ctrl + Scroll" functionality for accessibility zooming, the display/graphics are extremely slow.
An estimate of FPS would be sub 1FPS. The machine becomes unresponsive and is unusable for a minute or so, until I can get it zoomed back out, and it begins responding normally.
This is very disruptive, as its a feature I use often.
The same laptop on OSX 10.9 did not exhibit this issue.
Hardware: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Mid 2014, 16GB Ram
    Software: OSX Yosemite 10.10
    System Information: http://cl.ly/image/0H1p032w0M0w
    Reproduction steps:
    1. Enable CTRL+SCROLL zoom functionality in System Preferences > Accessibility
    2. Connect external monitor (Display port cable)
    3. Hold CTRL and Scroll to zoom
    4. System becomes slow, graphics slow, showing < 1 FPS without any other applications running

Just to note, I have the same problem....
When you use Thunderbolt display with 15" MB Pro late 2013, it zooms unreasonably slow.
But when you close the laptop display and only have the Thunderbolt display on, it zooms a bit faster, but still too slow for such a new laptop.
I think it could be optimised a bit better, something somewhere can be improved here.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 extremely slow wondering if hard drive failure

Hello, I want to start off by saying I'm not a huge computer guru, so that is why I'm coming here first. My Macbook Pro worked very well for a year, and then it has slowed down drastically. I've always been a windows user so mac is kind of foreign to me, but I'm trying to learn.
Some problems I've encountered are 1. Extremely slow running whether internet related, or just an application. I have checked the activity monitor and nothing is hogging up my memory. 2. Spinning wait cursor (rainbow circle) when I try to do ANYTHING. It takes minutes to start computer once it makes it to home screen. The circle just spins for a few minutes. Even just web surfing it's there. 3. Battery drains from 100% to less than 20% in 30 minutes, which again is annoying. 4. When battery drains the fan turns on and seems to drain battery even faster. 5. I get a lot of random errors forcing shut down of programs. I have ignored this problem for two years by not using my laptop or using it very minimally, but I am going to be needing a laptop again for school and not just my iPad and phone so I was planning on taking my macbook to genius bar, but wanted to check here first since Apple is an hour away. Plus I want to be able to use the piece of equipment that I spent a decent chunk of change on. I used time machine to back up everything today. I know its not a space issue as I have 300+ free GB on hard drive. I have tried to read through similar posts, but its overwhelming so I came here to post my own question.
I ran disc utility and there were some errors, which were able to be corrected after a couple tries. Computer still slow though when trying to do anything and running rainbow circle.
In recovery mode I reinstalled OSX
I was finally able to install updates after completing the above that were not able to be installed before.
I ran etre check, this is the report that came up:

Basically I'm wondering if anything sticks out in this report. I was thinking it could be a possible hard drive failure. I know my computer has been dropped on the floor at least a few times. Thoughts are appreciated. Thank you for your patience.

Eab, I feel your pain! I am replying simply to share my similar ongoing experience with my early 2011 17 inch MacBook Pro, running Mavericks with seeming ample hard drive space, [applications requiring less than 100GB, about 200GB data (total drive space of 500GB)] & 4GB RAM. (Disclaimer: I am not a wise or computer-savvy mac guru - simply a fellow traveler who has had a very similar set of problems - apps taking forever to load, rapid battery depletion & super overheated MacBook.  While I am a Genius Bar groupie, getting to the Apple store is, for me, akin to an antarctic polar expedition (i.e. problematic). Having spent endless hours struggling with a similar issue, I offer you a synopsis of my struggle/experience.
    STEPS TO DATE:
1.Installed several memory utility programs (Daisy Disk &  MacCleanse) system
maintenance program to regularly and thoroughly empty application caches (Adobe apps & internet browsers being tremendous hogs), identify and remove language elements and other redundant space hogs, etc.   Result: Small, but real improvement when I forced myself to perform a "scan and delete" session every second major computer run (typically about 6-8 hours in length). However, this did nothing to help the problems regularly detected when I run the Disk Utility which almost invariably demonstrates disk permissions that need to be repaired and, with increasing frequency, has demonstrated actual disk errors that require restarting and walking through a disk repair protocol. I did bring it to the Genius Bar where they kindly reinstalled Mavericks which they could do in about an hour versus the several hours that doing this at home requires.  This did identify that my RAM was, on fact, a limitation on the speed at which I could run certain apps.
    2. My next move was to install an additional 4GB of RAM. I bought the new RAM on eBay for about $90 because, with 3 kids equipped with MacBooks & iPhones, I simply couldn't afford the official Apple RAM. I even installed it myself, with the help of a YouTube video. Result: Giant improvement in speed (starting up or switching apps. If I had realized how simple it turned out to be, I would have done it well over a year ago. Some minor improvement in the overheating problem, but persistent problems with disk permissions continually requiring repair and periodic disk repairs (using Disk Utility) required.
    PLANNED FINAL INTERVENTION:
    3. I am purchasing and installing a solid state drive (ssd) and simply chucking the original hard drive, after considerable discussion with my savvier mac friends. It has become clear to me that, sadly, every hard drive has a finite life affected by a variety of factors. I am, in fact, hard on my equipment - running multiple graphic apps simultaneously, transferring massive GBs of data between my laptop, time capsule and an array of hard drives. I will let you know how it goes, but can share that the decision to get a solid state drive followed many conversations with multiple Mac guru-types (in the hope of saving you similar painful tribulations). The cost varies according to the size of the drive, but $400-$500 would buy a reasonable starting size. I am waiting for Black Friday sales, myself. Amazon (where I will likely purchase the ssd) is already offering a number of pre-Black Friday deals.  While I don't really feel like putting out that amount of cash, I reassure myself that a new drive will almost certainly solve the disk errors (with a solid state one offering more durability) & will help me prolong the life of my MacBook Pro by a couple of years hopefully. It beats buying a new Apple MacBook only three and a half years after investing close to $3k for this one!
I am certain that more experienced forum users could point you to software that could help defragment your drive or may be able to offer other solutions. I've simply had enough of struggling with burning thighs and head-banging behavior triggered by slow performance. I hope this is helpful to you in some small way.  The war is not yet over, but I'm feeling good about the battle plan!

  • Satellite A300 (PSAGCA-02Y010) - Is extremly slow

Bought A300 with Vista which was so slow.
I even turned off loads of features trying to make it a bit quicker but still slow, so I loaded XP and yet its still to slow takes ages (5mins) at least to start. Right click takes ages copying all of it is so slow, it hangs doing the most easy things.
My old laptop I bought in 1999 is quicker than my new 4GB RAM dual processor 2k laptop what gives and what could be the problem.
I have up to date software drivers ect also the CD/DVD is broken has anyone else had these problems and would you know how to sort it out?
    Help please

    Hi!
Its not easy to say what the reason is why your notebook is so slow but do you have the same issue with factory settings?
I mean the preinstalled Windows Vista version with all drivers and tools from Toshiba. So take the Toshiba recovery disk and try it. Then you can post your result.
Two years ago I had a similar issue. My new notebook was extremely slow and the reason for this problem was the HDD. It had defective sectors and so it did make the computer extremely slow. After exchanging the HDD all was working well.
You can check the HDD with Drive Fitness Test. Use Google to find this test and its freeware.

  • Extremely slow wireless printing with HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m

I'm seeing extremely slow print speeds when printing wirelessly from a Mac or a Windows XP system to a new HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m printer. The printer begins printing immediately when I request a print, but it only prints one line. It will then take about 15 minutes to print the rest of the page, printing each line after a very long pause. Demo page printing doesn't exhibit this problem, only documents from programs like Word 2008, Safari and Firefox (tried firefox on PC and Mac) are affected.
If I connect to the printer through a USB connection it prints fine, so this problem appears to be with wireless printing only.
    Printer: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m
Computer: Mac mini (Late 2009 model) (also tried a Windows XP laptop as a comparison, using latest drivers from HP's website)
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.2 with all available updates installed
Computer connection method: Wired Ethernet connection to wireless router
Printer drivers: version 2.2.1 (Apple supplied, HP drivers never installed as system shipped with 10.6)
Wireless router: Apple TimeCapsule (Early 2009) 1TB, running in a/n and b/g modes on 2.4 and 5GHz. TimeCapsule is in bridging mode as the DSL modem handles DHCP service
Encryption: WPA2 Personal, no MAC filtering or hiding of the SSID.
IP addressing scheme: All addresses are handed out by DHCP server with no reservations of any kind
The TimeCapsule is sitting three inches from the printer and the printer indicates full signal. Connection of the printer to the wireless network and setup of the printer on the Mac went without a hitch. Only when printing a test document did we discover the problem. The wireless network is behaving as expected when accessing the Internet from both Mac and Windows devices (tested with a Dell laptop running XP and a MacBook running OS X 10.6.2), so I don't see any overall problems with the wireless network.
    Attempted remedies:
    1. Rebooting and powering off, waiting, powering on computer
    2. Resetting the print subsystem, turning the printer off and on again and reinstalling the printer
    3. Unplugging power from the printer and letting it sit for several minutes before trying to print wirelessly.
    None of these worked.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the DSL modem HW.  There might be an issue with how print data is being routed though.
Please try the second experiment where you blank-out the default gateway and DNS entries from the printer's internal web configuration page.  Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.  Select Networking and then Wireless (802.11).  Under the IPv4 Configuration tab, select Manual IP:
For Manual IP Address, use the existing printer IP address.
For Manual Subnet Mask, use 255.255.255.0
For Manual Default Gateway, leave blank.  This is important.
    Select Manual DNS Server:
Leave both the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields empty.  This is important.
    Press Apply.
Turn off the DSL modem, the printer and all computers connected to your network.  Wait 60 seconds then turn on the DSL modem and then turn on the printer.  Then turn on the computers.  See if this corrects the printing speed.

  • Spooling a job to an AirPrint enabled printer is extremely slow (HP or Epson)

Spooling a job to an AirPrint enabled printer is extremely slow (HP or Epson).
I am a technical support person for the CEO and other executives of a large corporation.  I've set up AirPrint capable printers in several homes and seem to be coming across the same issue in a number of these homes.  More often than not (the issue is intermittent) when I try to print something from an iPad or iPhone to an AirPrint enabled printer it takes almost a minute for the job to spool.  It doesn't seem to matter how long the document is either as the same thing happens whether it's one page or ten.  At times the iDevice cannot even find the printer even though the WiFi connection is excellent and the network is functioning properly. We have tried HP and Epson AirPrint devices and it happens to both.  When printing from a laptop wirelessly over the network, we do not experience this issue so I don't think it could be a network problem.
In any case, the network setup in these homes is fairly simple.  We have a wireless router, a gigabit switch connected to that which feeds various rooms throughout the home.  The rooms have Ethernet connections and we have APs set up in some of the rooms to ensure full wireless coverage.  In a few of the older home we use PowerLine APs to expand the network.
I've seen others with the same issue but have yet to see a fix.  We've tried updating the firmware on the printers, routers and APs but nothing has helped.
HP Printers we've been using: PhotoSmart 7520, OfficeJet 6700 Premium
    Epson: Stylus NX430
Does anyone have any other advice?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Once the job hits the printer it prints immediately.  It's right after you tap Print on the iPad that takes a long time. There is a box that pops up saying that the job is being processed (don't remember the wording exactly).  Once the box disappears it also takes a bit of time for the job to hit the printer.
The actual process of the printer printing is normal.
Also, in some cases the iPad won't even see that there is a printer connected to the network even though the printer is powered on, online and the iPad is connected to the home network.  Usually a reboot of the printer fixes this problem.
    Thanks

  • My Macbook Air has suddenly become extremely slow and is always crashing?

Hi, I would really appriciate some help right now.
I have had my Macbook Air for a little more than 2 years. It has always worked pretty well. However, recently I went on vacation for 1 week without my laptop. When I returned home and went to turn on my computer, I noticed that it had become extremely slow. Firstly, turning on my computer has become an abnormally long process. It used to take about 2-3 minutes to turn on. Now, it takes a solid 10 minutes. Not only this, but once my computer has finally turned in, it usually takes another 10 minutes before I can open an internet browser. When I click on the browser (I used Google Chrome) no window will pop up, and after a few more clicks, my screen will freeze completely. Sometimes I will get the rainbow wheel and sometimes the screen just completely freezes without it. Sometimes I will try closing the lid of my computer and then reopening it, but when I do this, the screen stays black for a long period of time even after I have reopened it, almost as if the computer is off. After an excessive amount of key smashing and an abnormally large amount of time, the screen will finally stop being in sleep mode and show my desktop. Even then, my computer will still barely work. Once I finally get a window open and start using the internet, google chrome will end up crashing within at least 20 minutes. The entire screen will freeze, I won't be able to scroll down or exit out of the window, and I then usually have to repeat the painful process that I described above when I attempt to open my broswer.
It has been over a week since I returned from vacation, and I deal with these issues every time. My computer has always been fine in the past, why is this suddenly happening?
I have tried to remove some of my applications my going into Finder and highlighting the application and clicking Move to Trash, and then emptying the trash. This hasn't helped at all. Do you think that it would help to delete some of my files and data (pictures, documents, screenshots, downloads, ect) or is this irrevevant?
I would really appricate some help! I am really sick of having to deal with this. I have no idea what is going on or how to fix it, or why this has suddenly happened after a week of being away from my computer.
Thank you so much. If you need any more detail or have any more questions, please ask.

It's likely that the internal drive is failing, or you have some other hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the Lion recovery partition, if present.

  • Windows 7 extremely slow after 60-90 minutes of use

My specs: Laptop is a HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC
AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.30 GHz Processor
6 GB RAM and 64-bit Operating System
So the problem I'm having with my Windows is like after a hour to a hour and a half of operating time my Windows slows down to a slow pace. For example on start-up if I hit Start and type "calculator" I'll have my letters typed in real-time whereas
if I do the same say 80 minutes later it would give me the loading cursor and take about 5-10 seconds for the text to show up in the search box. I've already looked to see if my CPU and/or physical memory were the culprits yet they were both acting normally
(CPU at 2%-10% and Physical at 25-30%). When Windows would start acting up the video game I would be playing at the time (League of Legends or Sid Meier's Civ 5) would become unresponsive or extremely slow. What is even more strange to me is that even though
my Windows would be extremely slow my Google Chrome would be performing absolutely normal. For the meantime the only "duct tape" I have for this problem is restarting my laptop where I would get another 60-90 minutes of respectable operating time.
I need assistance, I'm at my wit's end and I have no idea what to do after trying to search the internet for my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Trev

In order to diagnose your problem you will need to download and install the below

  • Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit) fresh install, only WLAN and video driver installed but EXTREMELY slow internet connection...

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
    o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!
Thanks in advance to all and for any advice.

Thank you for responding. As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
    my Asus machine.

  • Macbook PRO 2009 running extremely slow all of a sudden

Hello, I have been encountering recent problems regarding my macbook pro 15" from 2009. All of a sudden it became extremely slow and spinning beach ball every time I click something. It used to be very fast it's as if something happened over night. I have already tried re formatting the whole computer and installed a new os x. I verified the hard drive that it's okay and I have already reset the pram. Would love some help please and thank you. Specs for my laptop are: 2.8GHz Intel core 2 duo,  500GB HD, 8GB Ram and it's from 2009. No recent applications were installed.

  • Macbook Pro running extremely slow since updating to Yosemite

    Hello All,
I am new to the community and I'm hoping your pooled expertise can assist me with my issues. I went ahead and posted the results of my diagnostic scan below. My main concerns are that my Macbook Pro is now extremely slow after OSX updates. Also, laptop is running extremely hot to touch. I have mentioned other ongoing issues. I offer thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Problem description:
    Macbook Pro 13":
    Purchased in mid-2010.
    Most Recent Issue (Main Concern):
    (1) I recently updated OS X from Mountain Lion to Maverick. Computer began running extremely slow and “jerky.”
(1.1) Shortly after this I updated to OS X Yosemite. Computer runs, and types, even slower than before.
Ongoing Issues (Greater than one year):
    (1) Extremely short battery life (may last two hours on full charge)
    (2) Macbook runs extremely hot to touch (fan runs continuously but can’t begin to keep it cool)
    (3) SD Card reader doesn't recognize/open an SD card when inserted.
    Lex Cschellings Requested the Following:
No obvious elements in the list.
This may well be a dying disk and/or a very bad battery.
    Do following:
make a new etrecheck list and in the problem description put what Applications->Utilities->SystemInformation says about the battery (under the Power heading in the left panel): give cycle count and battery condition.
Then post the link in a new thread.
In the meantime the crash report is probably a French Dictionary issue (font? garcon garçon) you have installed, uninstall that and see if it happens again.

  • Mavericks extremely slow on MacBook Pro Mid-2010

    Hi all,

I use Eclipse IDE to work, and its extremly slow now. Even can have some video playing on Youtube without some cuts when working.
What should i do? Downgrade to ML? Sell this laptop? Buy new RAM?
I've attached below the EtreCheck.... i don't know if theres something on my OS that may be causing this.
PS: ....and the OS already indexed all the files.
Big thanks for any help given.

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Wifi on ipad 2 is extreme slow

    Hi,
I have 4G network available and i am using AT&T Mobile Hotspot as a wireless router, Everything is perfect such as my laptop, Android phone, but when it comes to IPAD, it is extremely slow. Even to open google it takes about 1-2 minutes, i cant download any application.
Last week i click update all applications (26 applications) i couldnt able to download even a single one and now i cant use old versions of these applications as well, because if i click it says waiting.. I dont know, this is the first time i am stuck with ios.
    Please help.

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.
