Extremely Slow Network Wired Photosmart with Windows XP

There have been a number of posts that are very similar, but I thought I'd try this, anyway.
Have:
1.  Photosmart 8450 ethernet'd to DLink 655.
2.  Officejet 6500 wireless to DLink 655.
3.  Windows XP desktop ethernet'd to DLink 655.
4.  Windows Vista laptop wireless to DLink 655.
Both XP and Vista print to Officejet in less than 30 seconds.
Vista prints to Photosmart in less than 30 seconds.
Problem (from my perspective) is the XP to Photosmart print takes 8+ MINUTES to print.  All printing successfully completes, eventually.
Since the Vista can print wirelessly to the Photosmart in seconds and the XP can print to the Officejet in seconds, I believe waiting over 8 minutes for the XP/Photosmart is not acceptable performance.
Have tried a number of solutions posted here and on other forums, with no improvement in XP-to-Photosmart print times.  These include:
1.  Directly connecting Photosmart to XP desktop.
2. Uninstalling/reinstalling both printers on XP.
3. Changing XP LPT_Timeout to 3 sec.
4. Disabling HP Cue Discovery at XP startup.
5. Turning off XP firewall.
6. Changing Photosmart IP addressing to manual, with no default gwy, on XP. (Officejet is set to automatic)
7. Ran HP Network Diagnostic Utility.  Everything looked good.
8. Ran HP Printer Diagnostic Utility.  May be a hint, but HPPDU listed both printers, but it would NOT diagnose nor list any technical info on the Photosmart.  There must be a clue here, somewhere, but I'm not sure where to go with it.
Would appreciate any suggestions, will try just about anything.

Yeah, I think you are right.  Something in the XP machine is an issue.  Have you disabled its security system's firewall?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.
It takes up to 10 minutus.
If I see the appliction log in event viewer then I see the following errors on the Bonjour service.
    For instance:
Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(a8:fa:d8:3a:1e:8f@fe80::aafa:d8ff:fe3a:1e8f._apple-mobdev2._t cp.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.

    What can this be?
    Already thanks,

I did all the step with save mode and that didn't gave the same result.
Then I created a new account and there itunes started up normally.
So I contued with the user section.
I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
This gave the same result in not starting up.
Then I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
The a popup appears that the Bonjour Service has been disabled.
I looked in services and saw that is was still running.
But I tried to restart this service and it took a long time to stop this service.
Even if I selected restart the Bonjour Service didn't start.
Manually starting was not a problem.
Clicking OK on the popup let itunes start quickly. And closing and starting it again was also quickly.
So Matt thanks for your answer.
If it happens again I have to see if it was the removing of the itunes directory from roaming or restarting the Bonjour Service.

  • Networking Solaris OS With Windows

Hi guys, I am currently developing a java web application using the Solaris 10 OS. It is a Chat application so in other words, people using windows OS must be able to use my Chat application.
My question is how do i network Solaris 10 with Windows so that people using windows OS can use my application which is developed on the Solaris.

Part of the issue may be how often you log onto Virtual XP.  Since both W7 and XP are separate and independent operating environments, the both need to be updated with all Microsoft and other software updates.  The also operate with separate security applications (e.g., anti-virus).  Depending on your automatic system update settings, when you log into XP, you may automatically install and run the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials, or AVG Antivirus, or some other such applications.  Or, you may be overdue for a scheduled system scan, so the scan is launched as soon as you start Virtual XP.  Systems such as these consume extremely large amounts of CPU time when they launch and do a system scan.  However, when they finish, CPU utilization drops to normal.
If you don't constantly go back and forth between W7 and XP every day, you should expect that you will probably find very large CPU utilization from such scans if you have not logged into XP for some time.  In my experience, it will all go away.
Also, remember that you should separately defrag both environments.  The W7 defrag may take hours, as Virtual XP actually exists as three very large files on your basic HDD, and defragging W7 does nothing to defrag all of the tens of thousands of individual Virtual XP files that are embedded in the huge system files (such as .vhd) which hold the XP environment.
You might also want to check out the Auslogics Disk Defrag package.  It is freeware, and in my experience does a better job than Microsoft's systems.  Again, you would need to install separate copies of this package in each of the W7 and XP environments.

  • 1415 fnw printer wireless connection extremely slow or not working with OS X, works with windows

The wireless connection to the printer is either extremely slow or not working at all on OS X Yosemite.  It shows up in the list of printers in Bonjour in Safari, and I can connect to parts of the web interface if I wait a very long time.  However, I cannot add the printer as a new printer in System Preferences even though the printer shows up.
I have upgraded to the latest firmware.  The WiFi indicator on the printer is on, "green", and it has a reserved IP showing up in my router (ComCast).  It seems that Windows machines can printer to the printer wirelessly without a problem.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello @sscotti,
I would like to assist you today with installing your wireless HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer on your Mac OS X 10.10 Computer. Now you indicate in your post that this printer works fine with Windows computers, and you are able to 'see' the Bonjour printer on your Mac. Therefore, the issue that you are experiencing is not network related. Rather, I do believe that you are experiencing a driver conflict on your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. Can I please have you run the steps below to resolve this issue.
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
First, I'm going to have you 'clean up' your Mac OS X 10.10 computer to verify that any trace of your Laserjet printer is gone so we have a nice clean slate to work with. Please click here and when the website opens select the drop down for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' as the steps are the same for Mac OS X 10.10. Run the appropriate uninstall steps for the method in which you originally tried to install your printer: Apple Updates, or the HP Driver download.
Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
Please click here to download the appropriate Mac OS X 10.10 drivers for your HP Laserjet printer.
Once the website opens select the 'download' button on the top left
Once the download has completed, please follow the onscreen steps to reinstall your printer.
Once the reinstall is complete, test the print and scan functions to ensure that your printer is functioning as per normal.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should you still be experiencing issues there are additional steps I can have you run through. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Networking ~ File Sharing With Windows Vista

Alright, I've browsed enough of the web and I've tried a lot to try and resolve this issue, but none of it has worked at all for me. Here's my scenario about as specific as it gets:
I have a home private network consisting of two Windows Vista PCs, a HP Photosmart Printer, a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.1, and an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.4. The network is routed through a Medialink MWN-WAPR300N router connected to a Time Warner Cable modem which goes to the Internet. My primary PC, the MacBook Pro, and the iPhone 5 all connect wirelessly; the other PC and printer connects via Ethernet. All devices connect to the Internet flawlessly, and they are all assigned a static LAN IP address through the router because I portforward to one of my PCs, and the router requires it. The network was originally configured using one of the PCs as a Private network under the default workgroup, "WORKGROUP". Everything else router-specific is automatic.
Here's the problem: My MacBook and my primary PC do not communicate over the network at all. Both the MacBook and my primary PC can file share with the other PC connected via Ethernet, and they can both print just fine. After using LAN Scan v1.02 by Nutec Apps, LLC on my iPhone however, neither my primary PC nor the MacBook Pro shows up on the list of LAN devices. But that's not all, the MacBook Pro always recognizes the other PC via Ethernet in Finder, and the MacBook Pro can be found in both PC's Network list. However, when I try to connect to it via my primary PC, it says that "[My MacBook] is not a valid host name." What?
To futher satisfy my curious mind, I set up a small Peer-to-Peer network between my primary PC and the MacBook Pro via Ethernet. Both devices instantly recognized each other and connected without any issues. I was able to transfer files at approximately 100mb/s and I was stoked. I then disconnected and tried to transfer over the network again, and there was nothing there. I have even done ping tests over the network to the MacBook Pro's LAN IP address, and it came back with no response.
I've restarted both computers numerous times, played around with file sharing settings, set appropriate sharing permissions, disabled firewalls, enabled sharing for Windows on the MacBook Pro, enabled file sharing on the Windows PC, you name it. I'm sure there is a small fix that I may have overlooked, but I cannot figure out what the problem is for the life of me. Because the operation worked via Ethernet, and it's working wireless-to-Ethernet, but not wireless-to-wireless, I have a feeling that the problem is related to one or both of the wireless configurations.
Thanks in advance for any help provided, if there is anything I missed I will be happy to proivde more details per request. This issues has been bugging me for weeks now and it's time I seeked professional help

Alright, I am still having the problem and I have the results of the ifconfig command if it will be of any help to any Apple techies out there:

The section in question is where it says bridge100 because the IP address listed under that section reads 192.168.2.1, as previously suggested. However another IP address is listed above it as 192.168.1.104, which is exactly what it should be as I have it assigned via DHCP in the router. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, because this is driving me crazy.
PS: I apologize for the confusion. I made a typo in my previous post about my MacBook's LAN IP address. It should be 192.168.1.104, not 103. I can confirm that it is listed as *.104 in my router and it shows *.104 on the above ifconfig. Please ignore the *.103, thanks

  • Safari extremely slow and pages load with errors

Not sure if this is related to other Safari posts, but when I try to load a page from many sites, including this one, the speed is extremely slow and there are invariably errors reported on the bottom status bar. I'm on a new Mac Pro, and I haven't added any add-ons to Safari or changed system settings. My internet connection is DSL on ethernet, and there are no problems with email or on my old G4 using Explorer 5.1. At this point G4's Explorer is light years faster than Safari on this machine. I'm going to try Mozilla Firefox, but is there any hope for Safari?
    Thanks,
    Peggy

    Hi Peggy
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Try this to speed up Safari.
First, make sure you are not using Rosetta. Go to Safari's info panel (Application folder>Safari.app>Single click>Apple Key I). If Rosetta is selected, uncheck it.
    Network Connection
Go to the System Preferences>Network panel
    - Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
    - Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Only Ethernet ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply".
    - Back to the "Show" menu, depending on your connection select "Ethernet". Click on the TCP panel. There, enter 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 (separate lines) in the DNS servers box and select "apply".
Creating a personal location, plus adding the DNS codes seems to speed things up. Otherwise, the "automatic" function has a tendency to "search" for available locations.
In the Finder, go to your Utilities folder and select "Terminal". Once the screen is open enter lookupd -flushcache and press return. This clears out the DNS cache. Once done, quit Terminal.

  • Extremely slow and freezing on internet Windows 7

On internet, connections are extremely slow, freezes.  Typing misses letters on screen.  My computer is desktop model HP Windows Vista Windows 7

    Hello marie,
For first, let me know what type of internet connection you have. Did you have these problems before?
    Some suggestions:
1 - Do you have antivirus-software? Do a big scan, so it scans for problems and malware, viruses, etc.
2 - Maybe your processor is slow. Are you going on internet with other programs opened?
I'm glad that I could help you,

  • Networking Mac Pro with Windows 7

I have been trying to network my PC that has windows 7 home edition on it with my Mac Pro snow leopard. The mac can not see the windows machine, and the windows machine can not access the mac. They are on the same network (apple extreme wireless router.) Before I got the windows machine, I had a dell with windows XP on it and it worked fine, but as soon as I got this new windows machine with windows 7, it does not work. Has anyone run into this problem? anyone know of a fix?
    Thanks

    well...i have the same problem.
since my mac (running snow leopard) isn't able to see the windows 7 pc neither, i'm only able to connect to my pc thru "go" -> "connect to network" and then entering smb://"ip-adress" . not very elegant but at least it works....
    any better solutions??

  • Very slow Access 2002 query with Windows 7

I need help troubleshooting consistently slow queries in an Access 2002 database with Windows 7.
I’m running a temporary query in a local copy of a back end database with only tables. The identical query will take just 2-3 seconds with Windows XP but 30-60 seconds with Windows 7. Multiple Windows 7 workstations are all slow and
all Windows XP machines run the query quickly.  I even used JetShowPlan on both workstations to compare and the plans are identical. Two tables are involved with rushmore used on the first and a full scan on the second table of about 150,000 records.
Even in XP Mode on the Windows 7 machine the query still takes only about 10 seconds. Anyone have any ideas why Access/Jet on Windows 7 can be so slow? Thanks for any ideas.
    Rick Collard

    Hi Tony,
Thanks for the pointer - I had found that one earlier and tried it - did not help.  I think the HP ProtectTools Security Manager is Normally loaded
on Laptops - my problem is on Workstation.  I did a test of 2007 Access in the Virtual XP Mode window - There is works 'normally'.
    To give you an idea how Slow a query in 2007 access/W7 is;
I started a search for part numbers with 'busbar' in their description...
on W7 - Database is LOCAL to WS and upgraded to Office 2007
I then opened an XP Mode window
Opened the 2007 Access DB to the 'normal' database located on fileserver.
    enter the same Part search
    counted to 10 - 19 Parts found
    Closed DB
    Closed XP Mode window
Waited about 2 minutes... same 19 parts found....  Wonderful!
I will wait till my MS Rep can get me in line for the Hot fix or MS releases it.  Till then I will teach the Users how to Use XP Mode.

Hi there, I have only recently purchased a hp pavilion with the product key being: F5B53EA#ABU
The first few times I turned it on it was incredibly fast and I was impressed. I have moved my document from my old laptop onto it (not very many, just mainly word documents and pictures) and I have already uninstalled unecessary programmes however the start up is very slow compared to what it was before, I have to leave my laptop for 5-7 mins and then come back to see if it has finally started. Any help would be very appreciated.

    Hello 2010freemana,

I understand you are having issues with your computer starting up slowly and are looking for assistance in getting it fixed. I have seen issues where certain Windows components are not re-initializing properly if the Fast Startup option is enabled. This is enabled, by default. Perform the following to disable it:
    Step 1. Open Control Panel.
Step 2. Choose Hardware and Sound / Power Options.
Step 3. Click on Choose what the power button does on the left side menu.
Step 4. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable at the top.
Step 5. Scroll down and Remove the check mark from the Turn on fast startup (recommended) option under Shutdown settings. Select the Save Changes button and exit Control Panel.
Step 6. Shut down (Not Restart) the computer, wait a few minutes and then start the computer.
As well I have seen this issue when people have an Anti-Virus installed with Windows 8. If the issue persists try disabling or uninstalling your Anti-Virus and see if that resolves your slow startup issue.
I believe this will resolve your slow start up issue in Windows 8. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • X240 Network Driver issue with Windows PE

HelloI am working with OSD deployment in a big organisation. We are using SCCM 2012 SP1 to deploy new computers with our own image and applications. The new Thinkpad X240 is causing a big problem at the moment since we do not seem to be able to find an appropriate Ethernet network driver for the built-in Intel ethernet interface that is working in winPE 4.0. This is what happens. The computer boots, I press the F12 key, the computer presents a list of bootable devices, I choose the ethernet NIC.The computer PXE boots - it recieves an DHCP address from our server, downloads boot.wim, downloads the boot.winPE.boot.wim file and then starts winPE on the X240. It gets to "Preparing Network Connections", hangs there for a while, and then it reboots. If I use the F8 option and run ipconfig, it reports "Windows IP Configuration" and nothing else. If I run /renew it says "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation". There seems to be no NIC available to winPE to start the Task Sequence with.I have downloaded the Windows 8 x64 Network driver and the Windows 7 x64 enterprise driver package Network driver from Lenovo, for this model and injected the Network drivers in the WinPe boot file. Neither of these drivers is working with the Network Interface in winPE. We do not have any problems with any other models, they all install with our SCCM 2012 SP1. Is there anyone who have experienced and resolved this? Kind regardsNick

Hello,  I experiencing the strikly same situation with the same configuration :- SCCM 2012 SP1,- SCCM 2012 SP1 Boot Image x86 4.0,- Lenovo X240,- Drivers Lenovo SCCM package for Windows 7 (32-bit) http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/downloads/ds038819- Task Sequence W7x86. No problem when deploying an adaptated Task Sequence with Lenovo X250. However, WinPE don't allowing the network adapter to get a TCP IP configuration when deploying with Lenovo X240. To resolve this situation, do you use :- the standard boot image in the Windows 8 DVD or a customized one with Windows ADK ?- your boot image is this a x86 type or x64 ?- In case of a customized Boot Image, have you, please, some advice to give to use Windows ADK ?  Best regards

  • Finder Extremely Slow to List Files with SSD?

Ok, I have an odd performance issue and want to see if anyone else has seen similar behavior.
Occasionally, when I click on a directory in Finder, it takes several seconds before giving the listing, which is odd as the SSD is otherwise quite fast. (I have the new MBP i7 17" with the 512GB SSD.)
Also, Word is occasionally freezing up on me when editing some large docs sourced from Windows office, some with embedded graphics, etc. - it beachballs and does not come back with time, and a couple of times has exhibited other odd behaviors including blank dialog boxes during save, blank menus, and changing the display of my document to all question marks as if in an unsupported font. I know Office 2008 is buggy, esp. when working with big docs and complex docs from the Windows versions, but two days ago, I got several of those symptoms at the same time (not entirely surprising), and when I killed Word, got an error message (which I should have written down but didn't) saying that there had been a disk error and that my document was inaccessible, and expressly suggesting that I had a bad disk.
My system log is of course full of Word errors ("Unable to lock window," "Cannot map backing data shmem," "Unable to allocate xxxxxx bytes for bitmap data" and others), but none with the text of the error message I got, and I might just chalk this off to Word for the Mac being a clunker, but the fact that directories are sometimes slower than expected combined with the error message suggesting disk failure gives me pause.
So I'll put it out there - have you ever gotten an error like this when Word for the Mac crashed? When browsing files in Finder, does it ever stop for several seconds, a noticeable delay, before displaying a directory, even with an SSD? Any ideas what might be causing this? (Do I have a bum SSD?)

I have the same problem too. It is like Finder working on building caches, the first time I click on a local folder (library or system) then it will take quite some time (may be up to 30~60 secs) to see the listings. I aware about this slowness just 1~2 months back which not sure due to any application installation or OS upgrade/patches. However, after that, if I open another Finder window and click on the same folder again, this time the listing comes out immediately (which I suppose is the normal performance for MBP).
Tried googling but most is about SMB, which is slow too, but now our problem is this slowness even happening on the local folders that stored on SSD!!!
Appreciate suggestions to solve this or at least a way to troubleshoot this. Thanks

  • Extremely Slow Network Performance with 10.5.8

Let me start off by saying I don't use my mac mini much at all but when I do, the network is incredibly slow and unbearable. Half of the pages don't load, ipsw files for the iPhone take 20-30 minutes (with 15mbps interwebs)
    My network setup:
    1. Modem (provided by ISP)
    2. 2 TB Time Capsule WPA2 security default settings.
    3. Airport Connection
Now I would be for using 'openDNS' for a resolution but it didn't really improve the issue. Sure it sped up the internet on that machine, but I'm not willing to use a third party DNS when my MacbookPro connecting to the same exact network, doesn't experience this.
I have removed the hosts file for airport, remove the network connection, reset SMC, to no avail.
If anybody has any insight as to why my mac mini is the only device with poor performance, that would be greatly appreciated.

I shouldn't have to use another user.
Okay. It should also work with your current user but it's not.
For testing purposes and to narrow down the problem, try another user and see if it works.
If it works, it is something with the current user.
If it doesn't work, it is something with the system.
