Extremely slow PS3 downloads with E3000 wireless

As stated in the subject my PS3 downloads are horribly slow with my new E3000 (replacing a WRT54GS).   PS3 does not show transfer rate but it is taking up to an hour for 50 MBs.    I would generally expect to see 500 Kbps - 1 Mbps at a MINIMUM with my cable package so this is way outside the realm of acceptable transfer speeds...
I have seen this through several patches and DLC off of PS3 over multiple days.  I have already decreased MTU from 1500 to 1365 to help with PS3/Netflix troubles based on other posts in this forum (that did seem to help).
As you can see I am not the only person seeing this problem with E3000 and PS3 - there is a common theme here:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Network/SLOW-DOWNLOAD-SPEED/td-p/45496873
I am not sure if there is some setting I can change to affect PS3/E3000 wireless transfer or if this is just a flat out bug that needs addressing by Cisco/Linksys?
Thanks for any thoughts you may have,
-Dan

Try this.
1) Application and gaming TAB, section QOS, enable Internet Access Priority, click down menu, select MAC Address. Enter PS3 for name, and enter your PS3 MAC address, which is found in your PS3 Network status listing. Save Settings.
2) Wireless TAB, under Basic Wireless settings, change your channel other than 11, 9, or default. I chose 6, but you can choose whatever, except 9, or 11. That is the most popular channel for 2.4ghz protocol. So everyone in your neighborhood who uses wireless connections would be using it. Default is 11, I believe, on all routers, big or small. Save Settings.
3) Under Advanced Wireless Setting, in the same Wireless Settings TAB, in the 2.4ghz section, change Beacon Interval to 75, DTIM to 3, Fragmentation Threshold 2304, and RTS Threshold 2304. Save settings.
4) Setup TAB, under Basic setup, change the MTU to 1365.Save Settings.
Now, on your PS3, you would need to let the PS3 Network settings to change, and then run the test. Got to Network Settings, Change Network Settings, choose Easy. You need your passphrase on this one.
I was going to return this router today, and buy a different one. I've tested the Internet Settings on the PS3, over and over, with consistent download/uploads. Hope this helps.

  • Extremely slow file downloads from the 'net (Pavilion G5460uk)

We have an HP Pavilion G5460uk desktop with Windows 7 (64-bit) updated to SP1 and current, and use IE10 and Chrome. Protection is by Norton360 supported with Spywareblaster and Spybot S&D, and also access to Norton 'Eraser', ESET scanner and Sophos virus remover.  The PC is ethernet-cabled into the router but with also use other laptops etc wirelessly (all all these are working fine, with the same antivirus setup etc, without the problems we have on the HP desktop).
Performance on the internet seems fine EXCEPT that the desktop is now extremely slow at downloading any files (to the point that it is timed-out on the servers).  It is impossible to download anything large onto it directly from the 'net(we are using the other PC's to transfer files) - although MS updates seem to get on OK.
We tried HP 'Support Assistant' which recommends two updates: Ralink Wireless Network Controller (sp58084) & 802.11n WLAN (sp60924) updates.  Of course we cannot download these directly but it is unclear whether these are relevant to the problem anyway.
It does not appear to be a network/internet, software currency or virus issue.  Some setting somewhere?  Please can someone advise on what now needs to be done.

Matter now resolved!   We thought that we had covered everything before bringing it here.  But just one dodgy router port connection is all it takes.  Thanks for your time.

  • Extremely slow iTunes download

Recently, my iTunes has been EXTREMELY slow at downloading things as small as a podcast. I'm currently trying to download a podcast and it says that there is 24 minutes remaining on 88.2 MB podcast. Can anyone explain to me what's going on?

Oh, thanks! I also noticed that I can't listen to the 30 second samples any more because the stream always interrupts Seems to be a problem with iTunes Europe

  • Internet speed over wifi seems to be extremely slow and downloads go up till 50kb/s max but on the computer they go up till 600kb/s

As i said in the title, my net speed over the speed seems to be extremely slow. I had my adsl upgraded recently from 2mbits/s to 5mbits/s but when i had 2mbits/s the speed seemed to be fine and after the upgrade downloads just dropped down to 5-50kb/s when its supposed to be arround 300-600 kb/s. Is it a problem with my router or something to do with the iPod? Please help.

Sorry, but yeah im using wi-fi. WPA2-PSK security and radio type: 802.11g
The 802.11g standard for wireless networking supports a maximum bandwidth of 54 Megabits per second (Mbps).
That does NOT mean that the average throughput will reach 54 Mb/s. The "speed" terminus is merely used to describe the bandwidth of a connection, not its actual speed.
The common units are Kbit/s, Mbit/s and Gbit/s
The actual useful data exchanged on 802.11g networks will always occur at lower rates than 54 Mbps.
The 300 to 450 Mbit/sek bandwidth you will only get on a 5 GHz 811.n network with MIMO and (for the 450 speed) at least 3 antennas in your receiving unit.
But, as you described, the connection slowes down while transfering data, especially on your iPad.
This (except for a usual up and down fading) indicates, that there is either a bottleneck in your network or additional (unwanted) traffic on the net.
First to think on is, that Bluetooth and 811.g uses the same frequency and may interference.
First steps to do will be, following the troubleshoot as described under the link below.

  • The video downloading is extremely slow after downloading Flash Player Active X (IE) and FP Plug-in

I have Windows 7 on a 64-bit operating system, and have Firefox 19 and Internet Explorer 8. I tried installing Flash Player 11.6.602.171 from the Adobe Website and got an error message right at 47% download "can not contact reliable source." I also tried uninstalling whatever Flash Player I had, but I continued to get the same error message at 47% "can not contact reliable source." Finally, following the advice found in the link below under "Program Bar Hangs During Download," I downloaded Flash Player ActiveX (internet explorer) and Flash Player Plug-In (all other browsers). It appeared that both downloads were successful and I verified that the installation was complete in the link below under "Verify that installation is complete." It says I have Flash Player 11.6.602.171. My issue now is that whenever I watch videos that use Flash Player, the downloading of videos is extremely slow.  For example, a 45 second youtube video might take 30 minutes to watch. I have tried everything (from General Info, Download Issues, Installation Issues, Post-Installation Issues) in this Adobe installation problem page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html but the problem has not improved. Can someone please help me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First, I went on this link under Progress Bar Hangs During Download
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header
and then I downloaded Flash Player directly by clicking the links provided Flash Player for ActiveX (IE) and then Flash Player Plug-In (All browsers).  After my installations were complete, I tried watching any youtube videos or videos on www.ABC.com and the loading of videos was extremely slow.

  • Computer EXTREMELY slow after download

I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard. Last night I downloaded a large number of fonts (all free legal fonts, fyi ), although while it was downloading I was unsure of exactly how many I was downloading. When all was said and done it turned out there were about 30,000 fonts in the package. Although it was more than I was expecting, it was under a gig in file size so I didn't see any issues installing them. I installed all of them but last night had no issues. I turned off my computer when I went to sleep.
This morning I went to turn my computer on and found it to be EXTREMELY slow. It took 20 minutes for it to even turn on in the first place, it took 20 minutes to open the finder and its taken an hour for the library folder to open and I STILL can't get into it. Obviously the solution is to delete the fonts, but I can't do that if I can't get into the font folder.
Is there a way to delete things in "safe mode" or something? Because obviously I can't do it through the standard display.

A suggestion: boot up from another OS that can read hfs+, then delete the offending fonts.
If you have a firewire HDD that has Mac OS X installed on it you can boot up from it by pressing "T" during bootup.
If you don't, try another OS. If I were you I would use Ubuntu, a linux OS. This will do absolutely no harm to your system at all, since it is booting from a live CD and is completely sandboxed. Go to http://ubuntu.com/ and download the live CD for free (700 MB) and burn it to a CD. Before you boot up from it you should disable journalling on your HDD, since Ubuntu can't write to journalled hfs+. You can do this from your Mac OS X install disc 1, which you boot up from (press "C" at startup to boot from CD), the Disk Utility application, selecting your drive and selecting "Disable Journalling" from the "File" menu.
Then reboot and boot from your Live CD. Say yes to everything until you get to the desktop. You don't have to install it (unless you want), just go to the "Places" button on the "menu bar" and select Macintosh HD, or whatever you named yours, navigate it normally and delete the files. Make sure to leave a few behind. Then restart by pressing the icon in the top right hand corner. This approach is completely harmless, and I have used it several times on my friends' Macs which needed access to files while the OS was down. After you have done all that you should enable journalling again
    Hope this helps.

  • Very slow music download with iTunes match on iOS devices

For some time now I experience very slow performance downloading music with iTunes match on my iOS devices.
Downloading music takes ages now. Not so long ago download music with iTunes match was as fast as buying music from the iTunes Store.
I tried to restore my iPhone but nothing changed.
    The download itself is quite fast but after that the blue progress bar is full and the statut is "en cours" (french) something like busy/ongoing in english . The other tracks have a status wating;
Any idea how to solve the issue?
    Thanks

Same here. It seems to be better when the device has been set up from scratch. A delete and restore does not the trick. So I learned to live with it

  • ITunes store is extremely slow. Downloads and browsing the store is slow.

Prior to iTunes 7, I had no problems with iTunes whatsoever. Now, just like many other users, the iTunes store is unbelievably slow.
When I start up iTunes and select the iTunes store, it takes about 20 seconds to load up the store. If I try to preview a song, it instantly gives me the message "Network Stalled, Rebuffering Stream".
When I try and download anything, it is painfully slow. It takes about 15-20 minutes to download one song and movies and TV shows are impossible since they will eventually time out.
I even tried setting my router up using the OpenDNS addresses and iTunes is still slow. I contacted my ISP and they informed me that they are not blocking any ports associated w/ iTunes. Like I said, I had no problems with iTunes prior to iTunes 7.
This affects both my PC and my laptop. If I plug them directly into the internet without a router it's still the same issue. However, if I take my laptop over to a friend's house who has a different ISP it's completely fine and downloads fast again.
I've spoken with tech support for my ISP and they tell me there is nothing they can do, and to "hope that iTunes 8 comes out soon"
So, is there anything I can do on my side, other than the OpenDNS option since it doesn't work? I'm extremely angry at this situation and don't know why iTunes 7 changed something to where it conflicts with so many people's ISP.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Firefox Freezes Window on Download with Android Wireless Tether

Firefox download is freezing Windows, not good. Here are the circumstances: I open Firefox, go to some web page that wants me to download a file (such as a PDF, but it doesn't matter), download the file, and BOOM, windows TOTALLY hangs. Mouse is frozen on the screen, no ctrl-alt-delete, no nothing. I still have the screen image, but it's frozen HARD. My only option is a long hold on the power button. Also, this happens on Gmail attachment downloads, exact same symptoms. (As a note, I really don't open files, such as PDFs, in the browser. I download, and possibly open with appropriate application, about everything. This hang happens regardless of whether I just download or download to temp and open.)
I've done LOTS of testing and this only happens when I'm tethered to my Droid through "Wireless Tether" which is an ad-hoc connection. Everything works fine if it's a regular wifi connection or an ethernet cable connection. Also, I do not have this problem with Chrome, so it's strictly a Firefox/Droid tether combination problem. I'm running version 12 of Firefox. I've turned off (set to False) the browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone option in Firefox. I've also turned off my file scan in Windows Defender. I absolutely know that I have no other virus software running, and I also keep VERY tight tabs on all my startup apps (both in folders and registry), and I'm VERY certain that I have no viruses.
This is an easily reproducible problem for me, and it's not a good one. I dearly love Firefox, but I do travel a lot and often use my Droid as a tether to get to the internet, as I'm doing this very moment. All other times (and everything else in Firefox) works absolutely fine with the tether, as I have a powerhouse computer (I7, with 8gb, and ATI 5870 graphics). Anytime I have the slightest problem, I knock it out, but this one is VERY serious.
I dearly love Firefox and would hate to make the switch to Chrome, but this one is severe enough that it has me considering it. Any advice or a quick fix would be much appreciated.

Hey Antrikshy, yeah, I actually thought about my add-ons and haven't tried that yet. This is good advice. I'll try it sometime today and let you know if this changed anything.
jscher2000, yeah, actually the Firefox safe mode is even a better idea. I'll try that too. Just to give you a little more on the symptoms, the file actually downloads, and my computer hangs just as the download completes. After I do a hard power-down reboot, the file is there and not corrupted. Also, the Droid "wireless tether" app doesn't even require a USB connection. It makes the Droid into a true wifi hotspot. Although it's an ad-hoc hotspot and not a true wifi infrastructure hotspot (and I must admit I'm not totally sure of the distinction). It's just truly a mystery that it's only with the Droid "wireless tether " app and Firefox that causes the problem. If I'm on Chrome, or using Firefox with other wifi or ethernet, no problems. But put these two together and BOOM, hard freeze on download every time. I can check my gmail or browse the web just fine. Also, yes, I'm just using the typical Firefox download options. I have no download manager add-on for Firefox.
I'll post a reply on the results of Firefox safe mode later today.

  • Extremely Slow iTunes Downloads

I'm trying to rent a movie from iTunes and the download speed is obviously not 8ookb/s (my cap.) It is more like 10kb/s, or something ridiculously slow. I opened my firewall and it looks like iTunes is "scanning" my ports...I know it's supposed to use 3689 or something.
Every second iTunes opens up the next port and uses it for something.
Any ideas?!?! I don't want to wait 2235982735 hours to download this movie.
I've tried disabling my firewall and everything in my router looks fine...
Edit: I'm using windows xp, that 7 look is just a theme.

For the last 48 hours, on my iphone 3GS, it takes 100 times longer than before to download an app, or an iTunes song, both from WiFi as well as from 3G. Even downloading a preview of a song takes 2 minutes before the preview starts. This behavior started on 2/3. I even noticed that downloading apps from my Mac takes an inordinate amount of time and I have a DOCSIS 3 (100MB/sec) connection. iTunes is the only problem. I have no problem downloading from other Apple sites (e.g. trailers)so the problem is either in the iTunes download service or with their connectivity to my ISP (Cablevision). Pls help

  • Extremely Slow Podcast Downloads

Any one else having problems with super-slow downloads from iTunes? My other internet functions are normal, but even relatively small podcasts in the 5-10MB range are taking 10 to 20 minutes each to download completely. Never had this prob. Any clues?

I'm having the same problem. Downloads normally zip along, taking no more than 20 seconds or so. Today, I'm getting download times of 12-17 minutes. I ran speedtest.net which verified I'm getting a full 15000 kb/s download rate.
    It's frustrating.

  • Slow iTunes downloads with Airport express

    Hi everyone,
I'm completely stumped with this problem and am not finding a solution with older posts.
I have a cable modem with 3mb/sec down, 240 up service. The modem connects to a Linksys router, and my Airport Express is connected via ethernet to the router. The only thing in contact with my Airport is my MacBook Pro. I also have a desktop PC connected to the Linksys.
Speakeasy tests tell me that I am getting approximately 3mb/sec speeds on both the Airport/MacBook as well as the desktop. However, when I try to download television shows from iTunes using the Airport, my speeds are insanely slow. For example, the estimated download time for a 500 mb file was 3-4 hours, and the download rate indicator literally crawled.
To resolve this, I stopped the download & connected the MacBook directly to the Linksys using an ethernet cable (cutting the Airport out of the picture). All of a sudden the ETA of the 500mb download was about 30 mins, and the indicator seemed to show a rate of 2-3 mb a second.
This has happened on 2 separate occassions. I have yet to have a television show download at a decent speed using the Airport. I should add that we have purchased music, but have not compared transfer speeds for those files. I have to assume that they are also slower when the Airport is involved.
Why can I not get this speed from iTunes using the Airport? Is there something in the configuration that needs to be adjusted?
    Thank you!

    Hi Duane,
Thanks for the welcome as well as the advice. I will check into that if the problem continues. Yes, for some reason my problem cured itself. I did increase the multicast rate from 2 to 5.5, and on a whim tried to download some more video from iTunes. Viola! It zipped along as if I was connected directly with an ethernet cable.
I have no idea if the multicast rate had anything to do with this or not. BTW, as far as I know there are no other devices operating at 2.4 Ghz (cordless phone is at 5.6). We also live out of town & have no neighbors, etc that may be drifting into our airspace!
For now I will mark this question as "answered" even though I'm still not sure what happened...

  • Extremely Slow Startup/ Difficulties with Freezing

My Mac worked fine one day. I literally used it for one hour and shut it off, and it acted perfectly normal. Nothing was out of place or acting strangely. I waited a few hours and brought it to another house and tried to start it up. It froze on the apple/gray screen and went nowhere. On top of that, if it fell asleep, it would shut itself off. Eventually and currently, I can get it to start up, but it usually will take between ten and fifteen minutes to get to the log in screen and just as long to get to my desktop after that. It also does not go to shut down anymore if it goes to sleep.... usually.
From there, I usually pull up iTunes. Everything will work smoothly, until I try to change multiple items or import a CD, during which, iTunes will freeze up. It's especially horrific when I have another song playing. Sometimes the music will keep playing, and the timer will freeze, but eventually the music will stop until my computer can catch its technological breath. This freezing also will spread to the whole computer; granted it only lasts for a few seconds at the least and five minutes at the most.
Microsoft Word 2008 also give me this problem. It seems that whenever it saves, it likes to give me the same problems that iTunes does. No other programs that I've noticed have had this problem, however, these two programs are the ones i use the absolute most.
It's almost like it's just too much for my computer to handle. My computer is only a year and three months old (Or is that too old?). I've deleted many useless files and programs, as that's as far as my computer knowledge will let me think of to do. I've been told to try and boost/ restart the "PRAM" and have seen that do absolutely no good. I'm at a loss.
I tried to update my safari for the new iTunes (I'm currently on firefox) and it involved a restart in order to update. It failed epically because the start up took too long, and it stayed on one screen forever, not even the updating screen. I have to find a way to fix it, whether that be something I'm able to do myself or sending it to someone when and if I have the money.
I need help and any suggestions will be welcomed warmly, before I feel like I must send it in and pay money.
    Thank you.
    Caitlin

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
How full is your hard drive? You should have 15-20% free. If your drive is too full, it could cause sluggish behavior.
Is the S.M.A.R.T status of your hard drive verified? If it is not, then your drive is failing, which can also cause freezing. If this is the case, the hard drive will have to be replaced.
Is all your RAM recognized? If not, try reseating it. Your Mac will be very slow if some of your RAM is not being recognized.
Do you have a lot of LogIn items? Check these under "Accounts" and eliminate all that you don't really need. Often when you download software, it will install itself as a log in item, which means it opens when you start up your computer. If there are a lot of these, start up will take a long time because they all have to open.
Have you tried reinstalling the OS with an Archive and Install? Some freezing can be software related.
Your computer is not too old--many of us have even older ones which are working without issue. You just have some issue which is keeping your Mac from working properly.
Do you have a good backup? If not, you should place a high priority on making one. One possibility for the freezing is that your hard drive is going south, and if that is the case, you are at risk of losing everything. In any event, making a good backup is a good idea before getting involved in a lot of troubleshooting.
Are you under warranty? If so, any hardware problems would be fixed for free under warranty.
Maybe the first thing to try is to evaluate your hard drive. Check that you have adequate free space, and if not, freeing up more space will be the next step. If you're not sure what is taking up the space, there are some utilities which will help you to see what is:
    http://www.derlien.com/
    http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/
    http://www.id-design.com/software/whatsize/
Also check the S.M.A.R.T. status. If it says "Verified", try running this utility:

You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It will give you a more comprehensive view of the physical health of your hard drive than Disk Utility will, and you may get an early warning of impending drive failure.
Try checking out the RAM and hard drive, and report back with how it goes. If it isn't clear to you how to proceed, or if you have any further questions, please post back.
    Good luck!
