Extremely slow updates for iPhone in iTunes (2 hours+)
I plug my iPhone 3G into my computer, iTunes asks if I want to update to version 3.0.1, I press download and install, and on the download screen it takes multiple hours before it will be complete. When I tried updating to version 2.0, after about 1.5 hours the download timed out and said there was an error. I had to go to the AT&T store to get that version updated and now the same thing is happening when I try to get version 3.0.1. I have high-speed internet (54 mbps), a laptop that is a year old (Windows XP), and am running the current version of iTunes. HELP.
Had same problem but eliminated it.
1 turn all virus and spyware off, leave firewall up.
2 Download only
3 uncheck multi downloads
4 after down load is indicated done go to Iphone on itunes and download updates
Remenber to shut down after all is done so Virus and spyware all load

When I click "Update" for updating my Iphone on Itunes, it opens up the "Finder" window. It is expecting me to choose some file?

I get a message that my network connection has timed out while trying to update my iPhone on iTunes. Has anyone else had that problem and if so what solutions have you found? I was told to turn off my firewall and/or virus protection while updating but am nervous about doing that for obvious reasons. I'm also disgusted with Apple not providing free tech support.

when is the next update for iphone carrier setting?I cant change my carrier to 2g!!!There is only 3g or LTE available for me.
Carrier Settings are dependent entirely on your carrier. 2G is old outdated and slow etc, most carriers are phasing out their 2G service. You would need to ask your carrier when they plan on releasing a new update.
Why on earth do you want to set your iPhone to 2G? It will automatically switch to 2G if 3G is not available, and 2G is found. -

Whenever I connect my iphone 3GS to my PC through a USB. My itunes software comes up automatically.
1. After that a message appears from the itunes that states that 'itunes could not connect to the itunes store, an unknown error cccured (306).
2. After the above, an alert message comes up which states that A new iphone software version 5.1 is availlable for my iphone. It then states would you like to download it and update your iphone now? With the options buttons as Cancel or Download and Update or Download Only. Whenever I clicked on Download and Update or Download Only, the next message that comes up is that The iphone Software Update Server Could not be Contacted and suggest make sure your network setting are correct and active or try again later.
The above is the challenges I am facing now. -

I think I solved the problem by initiating the update in a different way, from the itunes panel where I can click to start the update, instead of saying yes when asked if I want to update when itunes launches in response to the iphone being plugged into the computer.

Go into your iTunes preferences and select devices (on a Mac it's iTunes > Preferences > Devices; on PC it's Edit > Preferences > Devices). This will show you any and all iTunes backups you have, including your phone. If you don't see any backups, then you don't have one in iTunes.
With iCloud, if you've got a backup you can view it using an iOS device that's logged in with your iCloud (apple ID) account. You go into Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage and see if your phone is listed there. If it is, then you have a backup for it. You can click on it to see how large the backup is and what is backed up.
Don't be afraid to restore it. The worst that can happen is that you lose data. If you have a backup, then you can get that data back. If not, then you will have to start over, but your phone will still work. -
