Extremely upset with this product.
Another horrible user experience. This time from the IT Director of a medium sized city.
We recently purchased 6 Curve 8530's for our administrators, based on the recommendation of our local telecom provider. They have given me nothing but grief. Administering them and trying to get them working properly has cost me dozens and dozens of hours of time, for 6 phones. Daily I am getting calls from the users (users who are my bosses, and very busy, and to whom this communication device is crucial) with glitches and issues that take up my time making calls or researching solutions.
Email and phone calls is all they use it for. All we are doing is forwarding their exchange emails to the blackberry account. And syncing their calender and contacts with outlook. Here are some of the issues we are having:
The desktop manager gives us more cryptic error messages and failures than it does actual syncing. Of course the solution is to power down the unit, remove it from it's protective case, remove the battery, wait 30 seconds, reverse the procedure restart and presto! It works. The miracle of modern technology means it only takes 10 minutes to sync your calender.
The update service fails more often than not. Currently on some the application loader needs to be updated but fails at the download screen, unable to proceed. The updater shows a bunch of grayed out 'pending' updates that I have no idea what they are but they keep showing up and failing, of course every time they plug in the Blackberry to sync they get all of these error messages.
We switched one user over to IMAP service on our exchange server. I created the IMAP account and then deleted the blackberry account. All was working. but, if you delete a message from the blackberry it also clears it from your exchange account, it does not move it to the deleted items folder, it disappears completely. The user did not like this so this morning I went to switch them back to mail forwarding to the blackberry account. I found out that when you delete an account from the device, it deletes the account from your provider also, and locks the name out for a year so you can't reuse it. So I created another blackberry account with a slightly different name, success!
I deleted the imap account and when I returned to the main screen I found that the old blackberry account was back, along with the new one. It does not show up in the email settings screen but there is an icon for it on the main screen, you can even open it and see some old messages. There is no way to delete this account and whenever the user sends mail, it tries to use this old account and fails. I called the telecom rep and they said they would have to push out some service books. Still not fixed 4 hours later. And sadly, i know what service books are due to my countless hours of trying to deal with other issues.
The sensor pad quit working one one unit within a month making the phone useless, you can't even make a call. I got on these forums and found that hundreds of posters were having this issue with this model, an obvious design flaw. There is even a workaround for it. The way the sensor pad connects to the main board is finicky. I was going to try it but I did not want to void the warranty. Of course RIM is in total denial mode over this. We sent the unit out for repair and it came back as 'water damaged', we are not replacing it. We have the unit back and I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that no moisture has ever come in contact with this phone. I took the phone apart and inspected it with a microscope (seriously). This borders on fraud. Dirty business anyways.
Of course there is a solution to all this. Drop 15 grand on the blackberry enterprise server software, a bunch more on hardware and hire 3 full time staff to administer it, for 6 phones.
We have lots of users with other brands of smartphones that they purchased for their own use but like to get their work mail and sync their contacts and calendars. And none of them have any issues. My iPhone works not only flawlessly, but also integrates my calendar and contacts and all folders besides the inbox, far far better than the Blackberry.
What colossal over site of engineering made you leave out a trash folder for deleted emails?
I have been in the IT business for 18 years and never have I seen such a shoddy conflagration of hardware and software. You may have invented the smartphone but you certainly haven't advanced it. In fact you are sending it back to the dark ages.
Disgruntled... don't be.
You've got several issues that when answered correctly... you'd be "gruntled".
Let's explore.

Nope, you never need to power the unit down.
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner:
With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescirbed for most gltiches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.

Learn to do a an OS upgrade this way... it's just so much easier and less failures:
See the link below, for the download and simple installation instructions.
First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.
1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

You can set the BlackBerry to delete the message ONLY from the handheld device, not from the exchange server. Open your Messages folder > Options > Email Reconcilation > and set delete on either Prompt or the Handheld only.

Options > Advanced > Service Books... when you deleted the account on the device and the BIS, you didn't delete the Service Book which enables that email folder. Then do a simple reboot, and IF the email account has truly been deleted from the server, it will not push back to the device.
See my note above on how to perform the reboot.

I've seen a dozen devices which a user "can guarantee you with 100% certainty that no moisture has ever come in contact", but after drying out PROPERLY, it works. Yes, moisture can involved even being left on a bathroom counter diring a hot steamy shower or bath. Guaranteed. There's electronics involved... beware.
Fraud, lol, No. It's just that you believe your users. Remember, everyone lies.

I don't think anyone made anyone leave out the "trash folder", but like my own real life and garbage, trash is trash. I don't go digging around in mine at home, nor on my BlackBerry. If you aren't sure about deleting something or not, set the prompt to ask IF YOU REALLY want to delete this.
Or check www.blackberryapps.com for a third party app to get a trash folder, if you must.
And meanwhile, I'll offer this, since I don't work for BlackBerry or RIM... in my opinion the 8520/8530 are consumer level, introductory devices. I'd tell you to get the 9650 if you're stuck on CDMA networks.
Even still, the 8520/8530 are good devices, and aside from your're workarounds for the exchange server and IMAP mess, you've really not had any problems that can't be fixed. Yea, for the amount of overall users, your city probably should provide enterprise servers, but we all know how cheap municipalities can be.
And, if you're not concerned about security of the devices or the information contained on those device, you can use any manufacturer, iPhone included, all you want. Security is a big deal to most, and very well might be minor in your town.
So, my advice for you... open your mind and ask some questions here in this forum. We're volunteers at this and I will bet you $100 we know more than most of your tech support people you've been calling on and getting shoddy advice from.
But ask questions, and a little less complainy/whiney, and you'll get some great help around here.
Good luck.
It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out.
It really is more common than you think.
1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
3. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
*Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

A good friend of mine was gracious enough to give me his old A1428 to use as I am currently out of work and can not afford another phone.
Although the phone works fine in almost every aspect, the WiFi chip will not search or manually connect to any visible or hidden routers.
I have attempted numerous routers at businesses and at my house (I have a stack of old, unused routers that still work.)
I have attempted everything I can think possible including a full wipe, restore of the latest firmware, and am getting quite frustrated as this is an excellent phone, however I am in between towers and am unable to get any sort of access inside my home and place of business
I was reading that certain models have a WiFi chip that tends to go bad after a couple of years and have noted that the MAC address of the WiFi chip is showing normally in the General/About section.
Do you have a possible remedy for this issue? It would be terribly unfortunate to have to use this beautiful piece of machinery as a paperweight.
Thanks in advance,

"Charging not supported with this accessory" when it's plugged into my Mac?
I'm starting to get extremely upset with my iPod touch 2nd Generation 64GB. I've had it just over a month now and every time I plug it into my Macbook it will charge for a few minutes, and then if I move the iPod for any reason it says "Charging is not supported with this accessory" and stops charging. My Macbook is always plugged into its charger so there shouldn't be an issue with that. I've tried the charging cord that came with the iPod, and several other charging cords from previous iPods, but still I get the same result. Could it be that the USB ports on my Macbook are going bad? I've had it since 2006 so I don't know what to do.
Checked, nothing there, didn't resolve the issue. Bought a new USB connector and haven't had the problem since. Apparently the ones I had, even the one that came with the iPod all went bad somehow. Thanks though!

I am soo unhappy with this service I need an immediate response I HATE your service
I am soo upset with this company. I have has doo many issues with my alarm system that is pathetic. I am constantly receiving false alarms due to the sensors are not good. I have been stuck in my house for 5 hours because my alarm system would not disarm. When I call I always receive an Indian that does not understand my issue. This company should have stuck to cable ONLY!!!
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (If this won't uninstall press on)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

Please help me with this zen xtra 30
I am having a few huge problems with this product. The first and probably most severe is I cannot get the battery to charge it charged when I first put the battery in and connected it to the ac power supply but after i cut it off waited awhile noticed the battery icon had disappeared turned it back on to see if it was fully charged it only had two/three cells so I cut it back off after a while to allow it to continue charging proble m is it hasn't it has been hooked up to this ac adapter for the last 6 hours and it still has the same amount of cells that it did the first time i reconnected. I don't even get the little charging icon at where the number of cells increases from 0-3 and then loops it just shows the battery with one cell. Other than that I can't install the software on my computer. I have a 98 SE OS (operating system) and everytime i try to install the software i get a error message and set up is exited and it tries again and i get the same error message so it tries again and again and then it just says screw it and quits. Help I just bought this thing last night from Best Buy I really don't want to have to return it just yet before I have a chance to experience it fully but this is just depressing.
Check your version of Windows Media Player & the what firmware version is on the player? Here's is a post to read to understand why you have the problem & how to fix it. It pertains to a different player but the reason why & solution is the same.Read the WHOLE thread.http://forums.creative.com/creativel...hread.id=28757

Spent a good hour on all of this and still the same problem, Im done with CL products for go
I do all this to the T as the Creative Labs tech asked me to and I still have a stuck mute button on my windows sound properies and as I sais earlier whenever I change the REC in Surround mixer it automatically muts anything I select it to. I have all I need to see in this product, its gone tuesday morning, taking it back and getting my money back then buying a real sound card!!!!! Thanks for trying CL but after I ran through the mud trying to fix this, i've had enough.

In order to install your soundcard properly, I recommend you to ensure
the following for the audio installation and test:
- The card is the only card installed other than the Graphics card.
- The card is at least one empty slot away from the Graphics card.
- Place the soundcard away from all the others.
- That the card is seated properly in the PCI slot.
- Move the PC's internal wires away from the soundcard.
- That the on-board sound on your motherboard is disabled through the
BIOS.
- That the on-board gameport is disabled through the BIOS.
- That your motherboard BIOS is up-to-date.
- That the operating system is up-to-date with the latest service packs
and patches.
- That there are no background applications open when you attempt the
solution.
- That the anti-virus program is disabled.
- That if you are over-clocking your system, return all options to
their
recommended settings.
- That you access the PC with administrator rights.
8. Perform an installation via the START program on the CD
(X:\CTRUN\START.EXE where X is the dri've letter of your CD-ROM dri've
that has the installation CD
**note** on some older CDs this might be x:\ctrun\ctrun.exe).
9. Reboot if prompted.
20. Please obtain the latest updates for your Audigy 2 ZS card from

Cheers, Tom -
I need advise and help with this problem .
First , I have been with Mac for many years ( 14 to be exact ) I do have some knowledge and understanding of Apple product .
At the present time I'm having lots of problems with the router so I was looking in to some info , and come across one web site regarding : port forwarding , IP addresses .
In my frustration , amongst lots of open web pages tutorials and other useless information , I come across innocent looking link and software to installed called Genieo , which suppose to help with any router .
Software ask for permission to install , and about 30 % in , my instinct was telling me , there is something not right . I stop installation . Delete everything , look for any
trace in Spotlight , Library . Nothing could be find .
Now , every time I open Safari , Firefox or Chrome , it will open in my home page , but when I start looking for something in steed of Google page , there is
''search.genieo.com'' page acting like a Google . I try again to get raid of this but I can not find solution .
With more research , again using genieo.com search eng. there is lots of articles and warnings . From that I learn do not use uninstall software , because doing this will install more things where it come from.
I do have AppleCare support but its to late to phone them , so maybe there some people with knowledge , how to get this of my computer
Any help is welcome , English is my learned language , you may notice this , so I'm not that quick with the respondGenieo definitely doesn't help with your router. It's just adware, and has no benefit to you at all. They scammed you so that they could display their ads on your computer.
To remove it, see:

Do not use the Genieo uninstaller! -
I am still using CS3. A while back I received an error: "Licensing for this product has stopped working" for my CS3 programs. I used the recovery program suggested by Adobe and was able to get Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver to work, but I still can't open Photoshop or In Design. I went back to the Adobe site and did every other trick they suggested to fix the error, but nothing has worked.
I then tried to uninstall photoshop from my CS3 suite (so I could reinstall) but got a JavaScript Alert: "Critical errors were found in set up. Please see set up log for file details." Seeing as I am not the best with the behind the scenes technical stuff, I have no idea what this means or where the set up log even is. Any help anyone can provide?
I have had CS3 installed on my computer for over a year. I started having problems about 4 months ago.I am having similar problem. Can't open any of CS3 programs after trying to download Dreamweaver Trial, which wouldn't work because "couldn't remove DLM extention" error message. So now I can not run Illustrator, Photoshop, or even Adobe Reader. These are properly licensed for about a year. I get "License for product has stopped working". Have 2 pending cases open with Adobe support (one for Dreamweaver trial, one for license problem) since 8/3 with NO ANSWERS - It says answers within 1-3 business days. Was on phone support hold today for over 3 hours before line went dead with no help. What is up with adobe support? Can anyone help?

If you had Pages '08/'09 previously it should be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Use that instead.
Peter -
Over the years I have had many ISP and email addresses - but now we have finally gone almost fully virtual...
I have a live login and MS ID 4 my SkyDrive account but I only use my MS touch with 8.1, SkyDrive and office 365 for mobility.
And I still like to backup to my own server!!!
What would be good is if I can put all the software licenses and product keys of the software and keep a record of my mac addresses for hardware and even static IP's in a file or a secure location within the MS online store.
That's where MS wants me to get my computing needs from in future and I will always be able to retrieve it in future but what about the $$$$$ I have spent on software, hardware and applications prior to now???
I know u guys love 2 collect data 4 marketing analysis,
4 example I have an old PC that is still running a server from last century - if you knew about it a simple script would allow you to offer upgrades or at least relevant MS products - UNLIKE the rubbish adds I just turn off or tune out
now...
Why cant I add products previous online email purchases into the 1 MS live ID account where I can keep it together? If you make that available I don't have to have separate steam accounts, EA game accounts, ASUS and adobe accounts etc
etc.
What has brought me 2 this is I was looking for my office pro 2007 disks to rebuild a HOME USE ONLY windows 7 laptop (NO touch screen so 8.1 is no benefit at all)
I HAVE 4 Genuine PRODUCT KEYs for Office 2007 BUT EVERY TIME I WENT TO DOWNLOAD the software - regardless of the key I used - I got the error message: We are sorry, but we are unable to complete your request.•The Office 2007 Product Key
provided is already associated with another user on this site. Please log in with the user information originally used with this Office 2007 Product Key.
That's crap - This is a clean brand spanker install of Win7 and there was nothing b4 I put the oem drivers from Toshiba back on.
I looked at dozens of support pages and forum blogs and tried for hours to get a copy to download - including incognito and other logins but because my default PC name is also my MS Windows live ID the same error was repeated.
I keep away from the non MS sites for these things and with good reason - there were heaps of similar users with the same issue or very close to it that had downloaded from a supposed MS copy from eValue or digital river etc and the next
thing was total corruption of the OS.
EVENTUALLY I found a LIVE MS chat on a support site in the US and she gave me a link to a slightly older version which will need updating and some reg edit changes but so far, so good.
The point is - what a crock !
I should be able to just keep all my software, drivers, updates, service packs, and versions that I have upgraded in the MS store.
If Microsoft aren't going to support XP or Office 2003 and eventually 2007, vista & Windows7 not far behind??? then that's still no excuse for them to put these restrictions and limits when I OWN my copy of the software!!
Unlike office 365 and SkyDrive space which is described in the T&C (that we all read before ticking that radial button to agree of course) as ONLY under a leased licence.
IF Microsoft can support AND develop software that supports SQL2000 Servers, why is it so hard to archive and keep the same info for everyone???Over the years I have had many ISP and email addresses - but now we have finally gone almost fully virtual...

How do I go about getting the product serial number to register my product as well as install my product. I bought it with a product box. On the software disc sleeve, there is a series of numbers pasted at the bottom of the sleeves but this is not valid. When I tried to type this in for registration, it does register as this numbers also contain letters in it. Apparently the registration boxes accept numbers only. What do I do with a useless product for which I have paid good money for it?????
This is the simple solution which was offered to me when I tried to get the serial code on line.
The box and disc sleeve do not contain a series with 24 numbers which I presume is the product code to install.
I tried to redeem the registration code by following what they recommended, but inevitably it gets to the page that showed the registration boxes that need 24 serial numbers and I got stuck again.
This product is so different what my previous experiences of other software products where I just enter the serial number straight from the disc sleeve and then I got registered and go on to use the software.
I is really frustrating, spending the last two hours trying to get my product going.... -
My late 2011 Macbook Pro is not working properly it is very slow and extremely painful to use, I went to a Genius Bar appointment, they were not helpful at all and just told me to go off and reboot my Mac and then restore via TimeMachine. I dont know how to do this. I am extremely displeased with Apple at the moment, can someone please help me?
Your problem description is generalized and non-specific. I would make another appointment at the Apple store and insist they help you execute their suggested fixes.
Incidentally, if you search this site, Apple has excellent articles re: restoring a system.
