Extremely Washed Out Screen (iPod Still Works)

Hey all,
So my iPod still works (the music plays and I can pick different things from the menu,) but its screen is extremely washed out. As in, I can barely see anything. I have to tilt it just the right way under really bright lights to be able to see what I'm doing, but the iPod is still functional. Is there any way to fix this, or am I doomed to a life of sitting under lamps and awkward head angles?

one more tip...out of irritation, i tossed my iPod onto my steps while walking by..after picking it up, i realized that the screen is now perfectly fine ever since it hit the steps! who knows maybe its temporary, and probably not a good method to fixing iPods but hey who knows!

Leave it in the rice for at least a day and change the rice every other day or so. The rice and iPod should be in a sealed container.

  • IBook G4 with washed-out screen, vertical lines, won't boot

My father's 1.33 Ghz iBook G4 with 1GB RAM was working fine when it suddenly froze. Upon restarting, it displayed very colorful, vertical lines on a washed-out screen, almost like it was slowly dissolving into a white blob. It does nothing beyond this. However, I do get a start-up chime.
I can access the drive via target disk mode and was able to pull all of his information off the drive. Attempting to boot from the install disc does nothing but give me the same white-ish screen. I tried zapping the PRAM (allowing four bongs) and booting from the install disc. This yields the Mac boot screen for a few seconds then the logo shift down and to the left a few pixels and a couple of short, stray black lines appear where the logo originally was. I need to zap the PRAM again to at least get to this point again, otherwise it immediately get the washed-out screen. I can replicate these results every time.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

My son's iBook G4 showed similar symptoms. After searching the web, it looked like the symptoms fit the solder connecting the gpu to the motherboard was cracked from stress/heat. The conventional solution is to replace the logic board at a cost of $300-$400; more than the iBook is worth.
A couple of sites suggested "reballing" the gpu which essentially means resoldering the gpu to the motherboard. GPUMEDICS (http://tinyurl.com/ycul2xu) will reball a bare motherboard for $30 or $75 if you send them the computer. Their repair fees include a 12 month warranty and return shipping.
It seemed worth the risk... I sent them the computer on Sat, they received it on Mon. (fast USPS service!), it was repaired by Wed, and I received it on Fri. According to my son, it seems to work fine. 2 minor problems: they didn't call when they received the iBook and I haven't received a receipt yet.
Granted, we've only had the repaired iBook back for a couple of days. But so far, I would recommend gpumedics if your iBook shows signs of gpu failure.

  • Washed out screen in iPhone 3G - after upgrade to iOS 5.0.1

I have an older iPhone 3GS. Have been very happy for 18 months. Recently upgraded to iOS 5.0.1.  Immediately afterwards, I started having a washed out screen.  It was intermittent at first, but now the screen is washed out all the time.  The problem started immediately after the iOS upgrade, so it's clearly a software or firmware issue - not glue curing. Any ideas how to get back to the crisp white screen, or go back to iOS 5.0?

I have an identical problem. Apple recommends doing USB troubleshooting and checking to see if security software is causing the problem. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
    In my case, neither helped.

  • Does iMessage screen sharing still works with Yosemite ?

Till maverick, the Screen Sharing feature was perfectly working with AIM or jabber/Gtalk.
Since Yosemite I can't use anymore the function. It never works.
Sometimes the sound (audio chat) work but never the screen view.
Is there anything new in Yosemite to make it working ?

    Hi,
In Yosemite the AIM and Jabber (Google) Screen Sharing still works.
However the iMessages account can now Invoke the System Screen Sharing (See System Preferences > Sharing > Screen Sharing that has to be Enabled).
this works like the Video and Audio Chats in that another App is invoked rather than use the feature already in the app.
Of course the Contact (rather than Buddy) also needs to have th Screen Sharing is  System Preferences turned On.
In the Video Menu > Connection Doctor are you getting any info when it fails ?

  • How to fix my iphone screen because it blacked out and it still works

how can i fix my iphone screen .
It blacked out but my phone still work help!!!!

    Hi zhamond,
If your screen is black but the phone appears to still be responding, you may have inadvertently activated a feature known as Screen Curtains (part of the Accessibility functions). You may find the following information from the iOS manual helpful (pg 126):
Turn the screen curtain on or off. Triple-tap with three fingers. When the screen curtain is on, the screen contents are active even though the display is turned off.

  • Will my iPod still work?

Okay, typical scenario occurred when I got home today. I was going to the bathroom to do my business, but upon entering, my iPod (4th gen) flies out of my hand and into the toilet. Thankfully, said toilet was filled with clean water only when my iPod decided to go for a swim, but the screen still turned black when I was frantically pressing the lock button in hopes that it would turn out okay. So after that, I went onto the computer and looked up what to do. First thing that I learned: It was NOT a good idea to try and turn it on. I pressed and held the lock button once or twice to see if I could actually turn it off, but I have no idea if that made it worse or not (probably so). After researching for a few minutes, I finally found that putting the iPod into uncooked rice would help soak up the water, and I did just that. However, I also read that you have to make sure the device is off, otherwise the iPod will have an increased chance of not functioning ever again. So about 40-55 minutes later, I fished my iPod out of the rice (like an impatient idiot) and held up a flashlight to it so that I could see if it was truly off. After pressing and holding the lock button one more time, I finally managed to see a very dim image of my lock screen. With that, I was finally able to turn my device off (for sure this time), and I returned it to its resting place in a bowl of rice. So my question is, is there even a chance that my iPod will still function somewhat properly when I check on it? And how much should I wait? I heard that waiting 24-48 hours would be sufficient enough, but I want to make sure. Serious answers only, please. Thanks so much.

To dry out an iPod it is recommeded that you place in a ziplock bag with dry uncook white rice for a week. Changing the rice every couple of days.
    You can try that.
After trying the drying out, take to Apple for an out of warranty replacement for which you will be charge because it will probably still not work correctly after the drying out process.

  • Macbook 13 boots to blank screen but still works on external. What's wrong?

My Late 2008 Macbook Aluminum Unibody screen suddenly stopped working for me today. I booted it up, heard a chime, but the screen is a dark blue tint. It doesn't show anything on the screen at all. I can change the brightness and darkness of the screen. I can hear sounds when I hit the volume up and down, but no display. I don't know what is wrong with it and why it suddenly stopped working. Why can I still control brightness, but can't see anything? It works on an external monitor just fine, just not on the screen itself.

Hi, firetiger.... i have the EXACT same problem!!! i have the same Macbook aluminum unibody screen also. I have no idea how to fix it. I'm also out of warranty and i've tried everything... resetting the pram, trying to restart in safe mode, trying to boot from a cd... .NOTHING WORKS!!! i can still control brightness itself but ive never tried attaching to an external monitor. I know everything is loaded correctly... i just don't know whats wrong. If you have any ideas.. please let me know. Also, I think apple will fix the macbook pros with a similar issue for free http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 but i know this doesnt apply for me. hopefully they work something out because I really love that computer!!!

  • Washed out color on still menu graphics

I am using uncompressed PICT files saved out of Photoshop CS for all of my menu graphics and overlays. They look fine in the Menu Editor as well as in the Simulator, but when I build the project and/or burn it to disc, the colors lose their vibrancy and appear washed out when viewed using Apple's DVD Player application.
If I open the original PICT file and play the DVD at the same time, there is a noticeable difference bewteen the colors. It is relatively mild but still distinguishable.
All I could find online was an article about setting up my color profile to Generic RGB in the Displays pane of System Preferences. I tried this (quitting out of DVDSP first) but the new build is exactly the same.
Any suggestions of what else to try? I'm using the same workflow as always and haven't run into this problem before. Is this a function of encoding?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

Do NOT go by the mini-VGA connection - it will never be correct for video editing purposes on programs to be viewed on TV. However, the connection to the Sony DVMC-DA1 should be correctly outputting an NTSC signal from your Mac's Firewire port.
Load the NTSC color bar generator into the Viewer and adjust your monitor as best possible. If you have a pro monitor, use the "Blue Gun Only" mode to set up the monitor with the color bar output from FCP. If your monitor doesn't have that mode, use a Wratten 47B filter to view the color bars on screen while making the adjustments.

  • XP stopped recognizing iPod, iPod still works with other XP computer

I had my iPod and iTunes working hapilly on my main XP Home computer until recently. XP now beeps several times (connect/disconnect) when I plug the iPod, and the drive letter briefly shows up in My Computer with a red flag, and it comes and goes for a few minutes before finally giving up.
I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled twice with no change.
The iPod is still recognized on 2 other XP computers that don't have iTunes (I use it as a USB drive on those machines).
I have reset the iPod a few times and no change. The iPod works well by itself, and other USB devices on the main XP machine still work fine.
I did a driver rollback to March (oldest date I could find), and I know the iPod was working fine then, and it made no difference.
I am open to any suggestion. I have been considering reinstalling XP on this machine to clean it up anyway, but the Make Recovery CD program on this machine does not work, so short of buying a new XP license, or buying a new computer, I am stuck with this one.
    Thanks in advance

    HP Pavilion   Windows XP

I thought about that, but the iPod does not show in Disk Manager. It shows sometimes very briefly in My Computer, but disconnects immediately when it does.
The drive letter assignments on this computer are a little funky, but the iPod used to be N: and currently there is nothing assigned to N:
At this moment, it is plugged in and the computer keeps beeping with the typical USB-in and USB-out sounds every few seconds.
