Extremely ******, what to do...?

So, my Ipad 2 screen just randomly died out it shows absolutely nothing tried everything. I took it in the Apple store today as I had a booking to have it looked and after having it looked at by one of the team, I was told that they can't replace it for me and give me a new one. I was however 2 month over the 1 year warrently but I know people who still have got a replacement after the warrently time period. I'm extremely ****** off at their pathetic service as my orginal appointment was booked at 1pm but got delayed another 45 minutes. I was told that they could give me a brand new replace for £200 which I really was not going to do. Clearly it's my consumer right that the product should be satisfactory and this indeed was a manufacturing fault which was handled very poorly. Under the sales of goods act shouldn't Apple be liable for this occurance?
I am not sure as of what to do now. Anyone that could please help me and suggest the best course of action.
Much Appreitiated.

Apple will provide a refurbished iPad for about 1/2 the cost of a new iPad. The refurb iPad will have a new screen, battery & possibly a new back.

For the new airport extreme what type of cable do I need to connect to my cable modem. Is Cat5 OK or will that bottle neck things?

Assuming that your cable modem has Gigabit Ethernet ports (possible, but it probably does not) Cat 5e or Cct 6 would do the job that you need.
If the cable modem is using a 10/100 Mbps port, then Cat5 will be OK.

just purchased an Airport Extreme , what´s the difference between LAN and WAN

Check the Setup Guide for the AirPort Extreme to confirm that the WAN port accepts the signal from your modem or from another router on your network.
Other Ethernet devices on your network connect to the LAN <-> ports.

  • Airport Admin Utility can no longer access Airport Extreme, what now?

I have an Airport Extreme that worked fine for a long time with a specific IP. They sold out and the new company came in and installed new equipment. The settings had to change on the Airport. After that, I lost my ability to print through the Airport USB port.
I tried to resolve the problem the other day. My Airport Admin Utility saw the Airport, but I couldn't access it. When I clicked configure, a window came up saying "Reading configuration from base station", then a Password login window came up. I enter my password, it says "Reading configuration from base station", then it says "An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again.". It does the same thing whether I enter the right or wrong password.
It started working unexpectedly for a little while. I experimented with some settings. Now I can't access it again. The Airport Admin Utility sees the Airport as 10.0.0.0, my laptop's IP says 169.xx.whatever. I thought the Airport was supposed to distribute IP addressed. It did for awhile after I set it that way, but then it went back to 169.xx.whatever.
I'm lost. I don't know how I will ever access the Airport again. Or get my printing capability back.
    Help!!!

Ok. I'm going to try a reset on a day where I have some time to mess with it. There are some things I need clarified for me about settings. Please correct me as needed.
    In the internet tab:
    -Connect using Ethernet is selected.
-Configure Manually was selected before as it is now.
-IP address: do I use their IP or 10.0.0.0 or 10.0.1.1 or what?
-Subnet mask: It used to be 255.255.255.0 now it's 255.255.0.0.
-Router address: What do I put here, use their IP or 10.0.0.0 or 10.0.1.1 or what?
-DNS servers: I will enter their DNS servers.
    -Domain name: blank
-WAN Ethernet Port is selected Automatic.
    Under Network Tab:
    -Distribute IP adresses is checked.
-Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT)used to be checked, now Share a rnage of IP addresses (using only DHCP) is checked.
-DHCP Lease: 4 hours. What is best here?
Do I really need to worry about anything else? If the password is reset how to I access from default settings?
Thanks, after this I should have a better understanding of network settings and the AEBS.

  • Airport Extreme - what is it for?

My Belkin wireless modem/router was dropping its internet (ADSL)connection quite a lot, so like many others I bought an AE. Whoops - went back to the store to buy a D-Link 320-T modem.
Many hours later my Belkin is back in service. I found the AE impossible to set up - green lights all the way but no internet connection. Further, all my machines worked wirelessly with the Belkin, whether or not the G5 (main machine)was active, and I did not need a cable to the G5 either.
I am a confirmed Apple convert after many years of Windows. Most things do what they say on the box and work straight out of the box, so why is AE different?

On http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/performance.html it states:All Mac computers with Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Xeon processors except the 17-inch iMac with 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor support the 802.11n technology in AirPort Extreme. These 802.11n-compatible Mac systems require enabler software that is included on the AirPort Extreme CD.
    1) Which Airport Extremes will be able to use these downloads? I have one that is about 3 years old.
There is no download. The patch is for the 'n' capable Macs.
    2) Is the download available now?
    3) Where do you get the download?
Apple has not announced any download.
    4) How do you install it?
More than likely the CD that comes with the new square AEBS will tell you.
    5) After installing it, will the Airport Extreme still work with older Macs that have non "N" type cards in them?
The patch has nothing to do with the AEBS. It is for the 'n' capable Macs. The new square AEBS will work with older non-'n' capable Macs at their normal 802.11b/g speeds.

  • Can't add wireless client in Airport Extreme, what is and where is 8-digit pin?

Recently we bought a new MacBook Pro and at home I have a wireless network for my computer. I wanted to add the MBP to the network, but without using the network password, so I was looking around on here to see how to do it and I looked at the manual, but the manual doesn't tell me where or what the 8-digit pin is.
    My question:
How do I add a client using an 8-digit pin, more specifically, where can I find this number?
I've looked at a few discussions in here regarding the same issue, but found no result. Sorry if this really has been solved before and I was not able to find it.
    Details:
    Computers:
    iMac (bought in November 2007)
    MacBook Pro (Sept 2011)
    OSX:
    Lion 10.7.1 (on both machines)
    Airport Base Station:
    Airport Extreme 802.11n (2nd Generation)
    Version 7.5.2
    Airport Utility:
Version 5.5.3 (553.20) (on airport admin machine, iMac)
    Network:
    -Closed
    -Not extended
         Wireless Security:
              WPA2 Personal
I am unsure if this piece of information is of any use or importance, but I have an older machine (PowerMac G4) connected to the Aiport Extreme via Ethernet, aswell.
    Thanks

Yes, I think so? Maybe I should have specified my goal with the network.
Since my brother got a new laptop, I needed to add him to the network somehow. I didn't want him to know/use my password, so I was looking into creating a separate network altogether, but as I learned I cannot do that with the Airport Extreme I have. Then I was looking into other ways that would allow me to let him use the network but without having to type in the password, and I found that "Add a Wireless Client" thing. According to that, all I needed to do was put in an 8-digit pin that was "provided" by the client. I thought that I could just make up some 8-digit pin and that ultimately would be his "password" for the network, but even typing in abritrary 8 digits wouldn't allow me to click on the "continue" button or whatever button that is, the button would remain inactive.
I temporarily changed the password to the network to have him added, for now (connecting normally, click network name and type in password), but if I can figure out how to get him on something separate or just him not having to type in the password, that would be better so I can revert or change my password to something else more meaningful for me.
I hope this makes more sense.

  • Just purchased airport extreme what cable do i need to start the process, is it a double ended male usb cable because there is no cat-5 connector on macbook air?

Hi,  which type cable do I need to start a hard wire connection between my Airport extreme and my macbook Air, is it a double ended male USB

If you want to connect the AirPort Extreme to the MacBook Air via Ethernet, you'll need one of these (requires a late 2010 MacBook Air or later and OS X Lion (10.7.4) or later): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD463ZM/A/thunderbolt-to-gigabit-ethernet-adap ter

  • Time Capsule / Airport Extreme: What's in the 7.3.2 firmware ??

    Hi
    Yes, I read bug-fixes, but which ???
Didn't Apple post a list or what ?

After hours of trying to reset it and powering the unit on/off I finally got it to work in a very odd manner.
I had just about given up and come to the conclusion I was going to have to take it back to the Apple Store for an exchange/repair (still under warranty). I connected my PB to the Internet via Enet and turned on Internet Sharing so my wife could access the Net on her MacBook. I then went to my iPhone to select the new temp wireless network and low and behold there was the APE. It had the default name due to all the resets. I then plugged the Enet cable back into the APE and was able to get on the Net with my iPhone. Yet both our computers were still unable to see the APE.
So I launched the AP Utility for the up-tenth time and it found the APE. Once seen it was a breeze to get it renamed and configured again.
The question remains; why couldn't two Macs see the APE until using my iPhone to select the new wireless network did it become available.
FYI, Apple once again was of absolutely no assistance whatsoever. When I called Tech Support I got that whole 90-days free support run around. Even though everything worked FINE before I installed their software. It's sad Apple can justify charging $50 to fix a problem that THEIR software created. As a former Apple employee for over 10 years it has really become sad to see how poorly their customer service has become over the years.

  • ITunes cuts out when using Airport Extreme - what's going on here

I have a Powerbook G4 with both Airport Extreme (hooked into Comcast internet through ethernet) and Airport Express (hooked into stereo in the next room).
Where I used to live had the same set-up and had full 4 bars of reception. I moved this past weekend and had Comcast internet set up again in a different city (same set-up though)
Now I have maybe 2 bars of strength on the Airport Extreme and when playing music on the Airport Express it plays for maybe 5-6 seconds, cuts off, then comes back on. This cycle repeats.
When I hooked the ethernet directly into the Airport Express the music worked just fine.
Is the Airport Extreme dying on me? Please help.
    Thanks

Thanks - went to the Extreme and Express and turned on interference robustness. This helped in that now I have all 4 bars of signal strength.
Still getting the cut-off on the ITunes though. Have gotten the "error 3256" twice now and Itunes freezes. Looked it up online and it said the cause is a 3rd party router or firewall - I dont believe I am using either. Error 3256 means something is blocking the UDP traffic which causes the Itunes to turn off and on.
Am very frustrated Itunes wont work. Its only 15 feet from the Extreme Base Station. I moved the 5.8ghz cordless phone (8 feet away)and the Comcast VOIP phone modem (10 feet away in closed closet) but to no avail.

  • Airport Extreme What am i doing wrong!

Ok so I've had this issue before & fixed it but it always takes forever. I'm setting up a brand new basestation on a macbook, ran the install software got the green light but I can't connect to the internet. Have ran diagnostics etc but won't work. I'm trying to remember was it something about a new location that fixes the problem? Help help help!

i work in a school & I am connecting via the ethernet cable that we always connect to. It is a network cable though. Having said that the teacher next door has a linkys wireless solution & no problems. I get a green light but no internet. When I go through network diagnostics it is the internet & server lights that are still red. I always seem to have this problem. The majority of the macbooks will connect to the linkys setup next door but some won't. As I said in my previous post, I'm pretty sure I've had this problem befoe at home when I'm brought a school mac home. Location seems to ring a bell?

  • Time Machine and File Vault - what gives?

I have recently moved my MacBook into the shed so that I can work in peace and quiet. My setup is that I have a Time Capsule connected to my broadband modem, and is acting as the wireless router. The MacBook is set to backup to the time capsule.
Due to my computer being out of doors I wanted to get FileVault up and running in order to make my entire drive more secure.
The problem I get is that it all seems to be working fine, until I log out, shut down or restart which takes approx 8-9 hours EVERY TIME. There doesn't seem to be any incremental backups taking place it just starts again and takes a further 8-9 hours.
Is this a limitation, or can I change the settings? My Time Capsule is secure in the house so I'm not bothered about data security from that end, it's just the MacBook is my concern.

Filevaulted home directories are only backed up when you log out. TM warns you about it when you set up TM. filevault also warns you about it when you turn filevault on the first time.
this happens for technical reason which i don't really want to go into. let me just say that there is no way around this. this does mean that every backup when you log out can be big and take a long time if done wirelessly but what you describe is very extreme. what kind of work do you do on the computer?how big is your home folder? do you work with any large database files? do you use entourage, or any windows virtualization programs? they all use large database files. also, how long ago did you turn on filevault? was it in Snow leoaprd, leopard, or even a prior OS?

  • Using Airport Extreme as a wireless adapter for an xbox 360 and/or computer

I have a wifi network that is successfully broadcasting internet, i also have a spare Airport Extreme that i would like to use as a wireless adapter for my xbox 360.
My Existing network is being broadcast from a D-Link modem so it doesn't support "extending a network" with airport extreme
What i want to achieve is:
Wifi Internet being broadcast by d-link, received by Airport Extreme WIRELESSLY, then sent via a WIRE to my xbox 360's ethernet port so that i can access internet on my xbox 360.
    Unfortunately:
My Xbox 360 doesn't have built in wireless
Connecting to the d-link network wirelessly (with the airport extreme) doesn't seem to give me a wired internet connection (from the airport extreme)
I don't want to extend the network wirelessly
    Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance to any users who know how to solve my (probably simple) problem

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.

  • What does empty trash do?

As I am typing, my external disk is thrashing its way through removing far more than 1 million items. I put a few folders in the trash and emptied it. While this was going on, I went to the terminal and deleted a few other folders on another disk using rm. The method using rm resulted in the space being instantly freed. Empty trash just keeps going. I did not use secure empty trash. What is it doing besides deleting data? Why is emptying the trash so slow?
The disk is a firewire hard drive. I'm deleting an old Time Machine folder to make room for a Time Machine sparseimage when I connect this disk to the Airport Extreme.

What is it doing besides deleting data?
With a simple 'Empty Trash' no data at all is deleted. The 'trashed' items may be recovered by methods of data recovery. What is deleted is the record in the disk directory of where an item is to be found on the disk. The trashed items are at first all still there, but the drive has now marked their addresses as available, and so those 'trashed' files will gradually be overwritten by fresh items being saved to disk and by other disk activities.
The bottleneck, the reason for the slowness, is mainly due to the slowness of the Finder to do the necessary updating.
