Extremly slow mp3 transfer to my muvo v

Hello! I got my "muvo v200" a vew days ago and since i installed it correctly (i think so (- it doesn?t work right. The transfer of the first 0 mp3s (each 3-4MBs) worked fine, but then it began to stop for about 30 seconds, goes on, stops, goes on, and so on... That means that tranferring mp3 to the muvo takes a extremly long time or it breaks up with the message "directory is too long" or something like "transfer-fault" (sorry, i don?t know the exact phrase in english). That problem occours if I transfer data to the muvo, to erase something from it or make a new folder there works right.
I also read about firmware- and driverupdates here, so I did that yesterday. The result was the same, transferring the first 0 songs after updating worked fine, then it stops and I got a little bit angry... (-:
Anybody out there with some help for me?
thanx a lot
andi

Transfer problems often come down to some issue with the PC. Have you tried the MuVo in another PC to see if it works there without issue? This isolates where the problem is.

Hi there! I have got another issue with my notebook - the file transfer through e-sata is extremly slow (about 5MBpS). Using Windows 7. Where could be the problem? Thanks.

    Hi Gabbi,
thanks for posting. You might want to check in your control panel which Lenovo preloaded software are installed. One software which I've seem has caused this issue is the Lenovo Rapid Shield and and Lenovo Airbag Protection.
Could you try disabling them and check for the changes.
    do let me know..

When I bought the computer the usb transfer speed, was fast, but have become very slow over time.
I've tried to do a clean install of OSX but it has not helped

This is a know issue for last 2 years and there has been no response from Apple. I guess its time to ditch mac and install Ubuntu.

  • Extremely slow file transfer from wifi server to MacBook Pro

I am experiencing extremely slow file download speeds from my wifi server to my MacBook Pro. I have just carried out a test - transferring a 16.5Mb folder took 8 mins, 24 secs. Transferring the same folder to my iMac G5 takes less than 3 seconds. Also, copying the same folder from my MacBook Pro to my wifi server only takes 22 seconds. Any suggestions PLEASE!!!!!

Try getting it on the Mac using something other than iPhoto.
In Windows, it would simply be a matter of opening Explorer and copying the file(s).  I'm fairly certain that Mac has a similar feature, but I'm not familiar with Macs.
Not really an iPhone issue... more of an issue with the application being used to import the file.

  • Extremely slow file transfer speed

    Hello,
Has anyone else had problems transferring files between computers over a 802.11g network? Recently, I found that transferring files via wireless has become incredibly slow. This morning it took about 10 min to transfer a 25MB file from my MacMini to my MacBook Pro. This was not the case several weeks ago.
In terms of updates, neither have the notorious Airport Extreme 2007-001 update installed. Though, I did have to reinstall OS X on the Mini to roll it back. The MacBook Pro does have the Security Update 2007-001 installed where as the Mini does not.
    Specs:
    Wireless Router: Linksys WRT54GSv4
    MacBookPro - 2GHz Core Duo
    MacMini - late 2006 - 1.66GHz Core Duo
    Thanks

is there a way to find out why "a file is in use" / what process is using it, and kill that process?
Yes. Launch the Terminal utility and enter this command:
    sudo lsof | grep "sometext"
That character after "lsof" is a "vertical bar", which should be on the far right of the row with "P". The first character of "lsof" is a lower-case letter "L". The text "sometext" should be replaced with at least part of the name of the file that seems to be locked. The quotes aren't necessary unless there's a space (or one of a few other odd characters) in the text you put in the command. After you type the text, press <return>. You'll be prompted for your administrative password.
If the culprit turns out to be Finder, try clicking on the Finder icon on the Dock while you hold down an "option" key, then choose "Relaunch".
how can I find out if some process is accessing the Time Capsule hard drive, keeping it busy and making the transfers slow?
That's a little harder. You could launch Activity Monitor and click on the "Network" tab in the lower part of the window. I'd also check the quality of the signal to the Time Capsule
If you have an Apple AirPort base station, I'd use the advice in this thread to investigate the signal and noise levels that each Mac sees, as described in this thread:

  • Extremely slow P2 transfer time

What am I doing wrong? I'm experiencing very, very slow transfer times. For example, 30 seconds of video took 6 min. to transfer in the Log and Transfer Window of FCP 7, 5 sec. took 30 sec., 3 minutes of video took over 30 minutes . It came from DVCPRO HD 1080p24 on a P2 card that was copied over to a little Western Digital My Passport USB external HD and connected to my Macbook Pro. I even tried both USB ports and both were slow. I also had my media drive (Fantom Drive 2TQuad connected into the FW800 port because that's my Scratch Drive.
Is the slowness because it's coming from a USB drive rather than a quicker FW drive?Someone said that my laptop may be slowing things down because the 120G internal HD has only 11G available. How much does that contribute to transfer speed into a FCP project?
Would it be better to do an overnight transfer (bypassing FCP and Log and Transfer for the moment) of the eight 64G P2 card footage folders (Content & Text) that are in the little USB drive that's mounted on my desktop and copy them onto my FW media drive and once they're on there, then launch FCP and go to Log and Transfer for the clips I want in my project?
Any ideas would be appreciated because my brain is now completely fried from too much technology.

    Nina
You gotta clear your internal of whatever you have clogging it up ... single drive performance decreases significantly as you fill it up, and as a rule you NEVER want to fill a single drive beyond 80% or the performance is going to drop through the floor .. yours is over 90% full, and as it is the system disc then this is going to affect everything. Is it the cause of your dramatically reduced transfer speeds? Don't know, but its an immediate issue you have to address regardless.
    Cheers
    Andy

  • Extremely slow transfer rate from iOmega eGo to iMac

I am using a brand new 27" iMac and an iOmega eGo 2TB hard drive (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2374133,00.asp). The drive has it's own power source and is connected to my computer via USB.
I'm trying to transfer files from the hard drive to my new iMac and the transfer rate is painfully slow. They are files from my old MacBook which I sold last week.
When the disc is not mounted, it seems to function normally - it's blue indicator light is consistently on and it sounds right. However, when I mount the disc and begin using it - in this instance to transfer files, it goes extremely slow. The blue light will mostly remain off, then interminnently flash on and onscreen a small amount of data will move.
Through disk utility I was able to successfully verify and repair the disc, but it's still behaving this way. Can anyone help? SOS!

  • Data transfer extremely slow

My wifi network seems to be very slow in transferring data - Airplay on ATV or file exchange between macs is extremely slow. Playing Airplay video from iOS to ATV is worse than watching Youtube. My internal network appears slower than my internet connection.
Any suggestion on what I should check or reset? Thanks
It is a provider's Huawei modem and an Airport Extreme router, distance few meters. I will not wire devices:)

Please also note that using a "speed test service" like speedtest.net or other is a measurement of your WAN link, ie from your router's WAN interface to the specified test location. This is not a measurement of throughput to your "client device".  These results would be the same between your wireless client connected at a poor 1Mbps speed and your 1Gbps wired desktop.  Do not use these types of services as a measurement of throughput of your internal infrastructure.
Keep in mind file transfers in windows (like copy and paste to a file share) utilizes Microsoft's SMB/SMB2 protocol which is very chatty and very inneficient.  This is not a good throughput test.  Utilizing a pure TCP transfer method, like FTP, would give more realistic results.  Even better would be to utilize an application like iPerf to perform pure tcp/udp throughput testing.
Also, Microsoft tends to display transfers in terms of MegaBytes, rather than MegaBits.  Your 100Mbps (megabit) internet would provide a potential throughput of 12.5 MegaBytes.  The same as on your LAN.  When you're copying a file to a share and it's going at 2megaBytes per second, this is actually 16 megabits per second.  So, your client connected at 54Mbps, half-duplex, realizing a throughput of probably around 20-25mbps is actually doing pretty good to get 2-3 megabytes of transfer speed using SMB file transfers.
Unless you have true tcp throughput tests prior to changes and after changes, the data you have provided thus far is not indicative of poor performance.

  • File transfer between internal drives extremely slow

Since the upgrade to the latest Lion OSX 10.8.5 on my Mac Pro, file transfer between internal drives is extremely slow. I used Disk Ulitly to repair the drives but no use. What could be the cause? Thanks

Yes I have been transfering the same type of data in the same manner as before, this happened only recently. For example if I transfered lets say a 100MB single file from main HDD to 2nd internal HDD it would have taken around 10 seconds nwo it takes a minute or so. Also my iTunes library is located in the 2nd Drive and since this issue when I play music it keeps cutting off and coming back, I am sure this is due to the slow transfer speed of the drive. I can't figure out why it has gotten so slow, is it the drive or the OSX?

  • VERY slow data transfer to my hard drive attached to the Airport Extreme

    Hi
Ive got a Macbook Pro and Mac Pro. In order to access large files from both I got a 2TB drive connected to my Airport Extreme and it shows up fine in both Macs under SHARED.
When I copy files from and to that harddrive from my Macbook Pro its impressively fast. Seems as fast as a USB stick.
However when I try to do the same with my Mac Pro its extremely slow. A 1GB file takes about 15 minutes.
Are there any settings that I might have overlooked on the Mac Pro?
    Thanks
    Jorg

This won't be of any help for you , but I happen to have the exact same problem. My AEBs is linked to a LaCie external HD, my wireless network include a macmini aluminum, a Macbook Air, a MacBook Pro, a MacPro Dual-COre Intel 2.66 GHz. . Everything works fine expect for the MacPro which is painfully slow to get data to and from. The MacPro Airport Card is of the Airport Extreme type (0x14E4, 0x87), like my other macs…
I use WPA2 with a n protocol to connect to the base station.
Still at a loss about this issue, wonder how to solve it…

  • My external HD of 1TB is not being recognized by the iMac and when after a long waiting period it does, the whole computer becomes extremely slow. Do I need any particular add-on to make it workable?

My external HD of 1TB is not being recognized by the iMac and when after a long waiting period it does, the whole computer becomes extremely slow. Do I need any particular add-on to make it workable?
Before I updated to OS X Mavericks I was using another external disk that was getting disconnected ocasionally so I bought a new ADATA HD710 portable 1TB Drive and moved the files to it. This new drive which is supposed to be OS X Mavericks compatible takes minutes to show the files especially when opening second and third level folders which has made mu iMac unusable
    What should I do?

Your Mac should be able to recognize many different types of drives (including Windows-formatted drives) immediately for Reading, provided they are in good working condition and not damaged. There should be no need to transfer to a different type of drive.
If there is no recognition of this drive, see if it can be seen in Disk Utility.
If your aim is to transfer the data on it DO NOT use ERASE or PARTITION as these will completely erase all the information on the Drive.
If the drive is present while the Mac sleeps, it is likely to drop out and not be seen any longer, especially if it is a USB-powered drive.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro File Explorer Extremely Slow

    Hello,
I am using Windows 8.1 Professional, and since a short time, I am having troubles with the file explorer.
It is extremely slow. When I just want to select a file, it takes about 10 seconds, if not more, and then any operation I perform on files (opening directories, renaming files, right-clicking for options, etc.) is terribly slow.
I have looked at the indexing options and tried to minimize the areas that are indexed, but to no avail. Even with only C:/Users indexed, I have about 500,000 items indexed.
    Here are my PC specifications:
    1. 32 GB of RAM
    2. Intel core i7 3.50 GHz with 4 cores
    3. 240 GB SSD in RAID + 3 TB Western Digital Black Edition in RAID
Do you have any ideas on how I could solve this? Also, I would like not having to clean-install my PC.
    Regards,
    Jeremie

AMS-DIS, perhaps you're talking about a different level of problem than the person who started this thread.
Just because you've seen it personally doesn't make it automatically a systemic Microsoft problem.  While I don't disagree that Explorer could be better programmed, there ARE those of us who don't see regular crashes, freezes, or particularly slow operation.
Keeping in mind that external drives have to spin up, and that can be perceived as taking some time when you access the drive in Explorer, once spun up you shouldn't be seeing noticeable delay.
If you are, please quantify what you're seeing with some specifics.
    Here's what I see:
When I first navigate to my spun-down MyBook external USB drive I see the contents of the root folder instantly.
When I navigate a level or two into the folder structure I see a few second delay when it gets deep enough that the data is not cached and the drive has to spin up to get it.
Then, once spun up, when I navigate into any folder its contents show up instantly.
When I copy a file by dragging to/from the drive or do a backup to the drive I see a substantial percentage of the theoretical maximum transfer speed (I have USB2).
If you are not seeing performance similar to the above then you have something out of the ordinary set up on your particular system that's causing it.  You should never be seeing crashes.  I don't.
Now, that being said, when transferring multiple files / folders, I *do* see a fair bit of slowdown in transfer rate, implying something's being throttled back by Explorer or there's way too much end to end communication, even between SSDs.
I've wondered whether Explorer is slowing things down just so you can see them happen in its progress dialog.    Windows XP used to be faster at copying big blocks of multiple files even 13 years ago.

  • Initial Time Machine Backup - Extremely Slow/Freeze

    Hello,
I recently switched my external HDDs and began utilizing a different HDD in conjunction with Time Machine. I have used this HDD in the past with Time Machine and never had a problem. The initial backup is proceeding at an extremely slow rate and often freezes - as of writing, it is currently standing at 125.3MB of 1.07TB - About 1,172 days. I have erased and reformatted the drive (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)), tested data transfer rates to it by transferring files myself (normal rate), repaired permissions, verified my disks, tried the initial backup while spotlight was off and have forced a spotlight re-index, allowing it to go to completion before attemtping a backup - however, no solution has thus far worked. I have not made any large changes to my computer since I switched the HDDs either.
Does anybody know what could be causing such a problem and how to fix this? Many thanks for any help,
    - Cptbigt

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.

  • Finder/Disk Access Extremely Slow

I have a G4 867 (MDD) running OS 10.4.6. After putting my computer to sleep last night, I woke up this morning to find hanging at the login-from-sleep screen. I force-restarted, and since that point the computer, and especially some components of the Finder, has been running EXTREMELY slow.
    Symptoms:
-Hard drives are slow to appear (I have two on the primary channel and two on the secondary). They will eventually show up, but it can take over a minute for drives other than the startup drive. When I scan them with Disk Utility, they appear fine.
-Using menus and accessing files in the Finder can take upwards of a minute or so. Likewise, switching between programs can induce waits of about 30 seconds.
-Curiously, once inside a program (say, Safari or iTunes), no problems exist local to the program, and it can run nearly unaffected... but if I need to change applications or access a file outside the program, the problems surface.
    Things I've tried:
    -Restarting.
    -Trashing my Finder prefs.
    -Zapping the PRAM.
    -Resetting the PMU.
    -Running Disk Utility.
    -Running Yasu.
    -Reinstalling the 10.4.6 Update.
-Trying to reinstall Tiger (which failed; initially, the DVD couldn't see the drives- then, after I checked them with Disk Utility, it could see them but failed to install after checking the DVD and asked me to restart)
    Can anyone help?
G4 Dual 867 (Mirrored Drive Doors)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP

I got my AE and Seagate FreeAgent Pro hard drive
yesturday and I have the exact same problem.
If I hook up the drive to the computer directly it is
    very very fast.
If I hook it up to the AE it takes about 2 hours to
move a couple fils totaling 2 gigs over ETHERNET!
If I transfer the same files over the same network
between 2 computers the speed is much much faster.
Is this normal or some nasty firmware bug. It almost
feels like the AE is using USB 1.0 for some reason.
You guys are funny. How about checking out the specs of USB 2.0 and 802.11g/n?
    Go here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.11g#802.11g
    and here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_2.0
Firewire vs. USB tests are here:
    http://www.g4tv.com/techtvvault/features/39129/USB20_Versus_FireWirepg3.html
    802.11g:
Release Date Op. Frequency Data Rate (Typ) Data Rate (Max) Range (Indoor)
    June 2003 2.4 GHz 19 Mbit/s 54 Mbit/s ~35 meters
    802.11n:
Release Date Op. Frequency Data Rate (Typ) Data Rate (Max) Range (Indoor)
    Mid 2008 5 GHz and/or 2.4 GHz 74 Mbit/s 248 Mbit/s (2 stream) ~70 meters
Bottom line: 802.11n typical is 74Mbps, 802.11g typical is 19Mbps. USB 2.0 typical is 50Mbps.
On the average, you should expect your speed to drop by over 50% when connecting the USB drive to AESB using an 802.11g device. If your device is 802.11n, then you should have pretty much similar performance.
Now, if you increase the distance from your base station, or you put walls in between, the performance of 802.11g will go down "dramatically", all the way to 2-3Mbps, easy. Not so for 802.11n, which behaves much better at longer distances.
