Eye dropper-Snow Lion

Hello,
Since updating to Snow Lion 10.8.2 the eye dropper tool in the Ultra Key effect has ceased to function. Using same set up otherwise. MacPro quad-core 16gb RAM, Apple 27" monitor, and a matrox MXO2 with consumer TV connected via HDMI. Thanks!

Disconnecting the monitor alone did not resolve the issue. I will disconnect the Matrox next, just got to render first. Theory that the second display is cause seems to stand as my other machine, running 10.8.2 without second monitor or Matrox, has no eye droppper issue. Thanks.

  • My Eye Dropper STILL does not work in CS5 while using Lion with one monitor. How can i fix this?!?

    Hello everyone!
This is my first post because i have grown very disgruntled at the fact that my eye dropper does not work my Premiere CS5. I would use the Ultra Key a lot but now I obviously can not really use it too well because of no eye dropper. I saw that this problem existed after the Lion update but this really should have been fixed by now. I am using only one monitor also. Is there a way to fix this or is this still known to be broken? I paid good money for CS5 and would be very upset if the only way around this is to pay MORE money to upgrade to CS5.5. Thanks.

Thanks for the response Stephen! I find this very bad on Adobe's part though if they do not feel obligated to fix CS5 for Lion. Eye dropper is a major part of Premiere and i am going to be very dissapointed if they do not fix that. With the amount of money the Suite costs, they definitly should make sure it runs well for quite a few years. I would expect a copy of CS4 to be able to work too. If they do not fix CS5 all because the OS has changed basically tells me that every 2 years or so, they stop caring about their product.
Sorry i sound so bitter about this but it has really hurt my workflow. Ultra key is great and something that FCP does not have so it has the edge in that respect, but now i can not even properly use it. I have to go into After Effects with the same clip, use that eyedropper to get the correct color # and then copy and paste the # into Ultra Key in Premiere which is very very annoying and slows down my system quite a bit.
So basically, they are probably not going to ever fix this? Thanks again

  • Colour brick eye dropper not working

After 3.3 update the adjustments Color Brick eye dropper will not select a new color.  I have reinstalled 3.3 but no change.  My system is a good stable system with no issues at all.  Anyone else seeing this?

    Hi Stewart,
    I can only guess.
Since the update I notice as I browse my pictures that they take longer to render and
I observe quite the opposite; I now can process large scans that where impossible to tackle before, see e.g. my post here:
Aperture 3.3: Improved handling of large scans?
Aperture appears to be much faster, and I saw others report similar observations; I assume that Aperture now has a more efficient memory management and probaby requires much more RAM than previously. How much RAM does your iMac have? Can you upgrade?
Also you need plenty of free disk space. If the disk get full, multimedia applications will be slowed down.
Ask SierraDragon, he is our resident hardware guru!
I half expected version 4 because the Adobe suites have been refreshed and Aperture 3 is old ish now.  Not that I am complaining,  Aperture is a great piece of software and I would struggle without it!
I agree, and I am still hoping for Aperture 4 arriving with the Mountain Lion
    Cheers

  • Wot - No Eye Dropper?

Previously plagued with the problem of not being able to toggle Snapping and Skimming on and off, this morning, I installed a totally clean version of Lion (will upgrade to Mavericks later, all being well) on a spare internal HD on my Mac Pro, so now I have two systems on the one Mac Pro.
On this virgin drive (which I named FCP Only) I installed FCP X and Compressor - and away I went.
Everything was going smoothly - I now have snapping, skimming etc working totally normally (I can toggle them on and off). I can also use the Timeline Index normally (that function had disappeared previously).
But to my astonishment, I can't activate the eye dropper when I want to use a Color Mask.
    I'm using XDCAM EX footage.
    Andy

Is the Eyedropper Tool grayed out, or does it just not activate and work?
While I do not recall any issue with the Eyedropper Tool in PrE, there have been a few posts about problems in various Effects in PrPro, and also in the Color Picker in Photoshop. I would Search the Premiere Pro CS 5 - CS 6 Forum for "eyedropper," and also do the same for the Photoshop General Discussions Forum, in case there is some useful info there. IIRC, those problems with the Eyedropper were all on Mac's, but I could be wrong.
Good luck, and wish that I had more to offer.

  • Cs5.5 eye dropper and boris chroma key issue

Hi all, I know we have issues with the eye dropper in cs5.5 ultra key and osx lion. Hopefully adobe with correct this ASAP. In the meantime does anyone know if the eye dropper works with third party plugins such as boris chroma key?
This may be an expensive fix if it will work but me being colour blind is causing a few problems using the swatch tool. If anyone can shed some light on this that would be great, also any views on the boris keyer would be helpful.
Any other suggestions for a good keying plugin would also be useful.
    Regards
    Dave.

Hi Todd as you can see from above I found that out the hard way, however I am experimenting just in case I fall across something that helps. In my case for now I am doing all the keying in AE then replacing the clips in PP with the rgb and alpha from rendered vid  out of AE. Bit more time consuming but at least I can carry on with my project.

    Dave.

  • How do I get my eye dropper tool to show up?

Somehow, my eye dropper disappeared. I can't find it in my tool bar.  I've searched for at least an hour now, and I really need it.
Can someone PULEEEEZ help me get it back?

That's really interesting... so no Eyedropper tool here?
What tools do you have instead?

  • Pulling color out of a gradient w eye dropper

Hello all - this is my first posting here, but I've spent quite a bit of time searching down my answer and haven't found anything.
I have an illustration that contains a lot of gradients. I am trying to simplify the illustration in order to make the file size smaller by removing all of my gradients and replacing the current shape with new shapes containing solid colors.
(I am trying this method because I have tried other methods that have not decreased thefile size enough, such as merging)
I have locked my layer and created a new layer above in order to use my pen tool to create the new shapes. The problem is when I use the eye dropper to get the part of the gradient I need for that shape, it fills the new shape with the gradient, not the solid color I am sampling.
Is there a way to do what I have described?
    Thanks!

It's not really as accurate as it might be but try holding down the shift key to sample the sereen value at that point.

  • Eye dropper in photo filter not working

The eye dropper is still not behaving correctly (after years of history with this same problem from what I can gather on these forum discussions).
I'm on the latest 14.2.1 Ps CC. Both 32 and 64 bit give the same problem.  Turning off my video card does not make a difference.  Resetting all my tools/presets does not make a difference.  The eye dropper only works when dealing with a background layer, not with the photo filter layer.   It doesn't sample the color clicked on, nor does it show the sampler ring.  It forces the photo filter color to white, regardless of the color sampled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can you post some screen captures of what you describing.  Include the layers palette with all layers thumbnails showing. A Photo filter layer has no actual pixels its an adjustment layer which is logically clipped to the layer its above. When I try using the eye dropper it seems to pick up the color it produced on the layer its logically clipped to. However if the layer has no pixels in the area sampled nothing is picked up and the foreground swatch doesn't change. Does you image layer have any empty pixels ones that have been cut out and your set to sample current layer,
More testing show if set to current layer and your sampling on the adjustment layer it acts like the adjustment layer like a composite layer and lower layer colors will be picked up if the image layers pixels are empty.  Which layer is the target when you sample the image layer or the adjustment layer and what sampling mode are you using?
It is also not clipped to the lower layer I was wrong it seem to be for I was using Black and White background layers.  When I change to Yellow I could set it was not clipped but could be clipped and if I sampler over an empty area I would get white not  nothing i would get white.
So two things seem strange to me when you try to target the adjustment layer the adjustment layer's layer mask is targeret instead of the layer it takes a second click to targer the layer. And the other odd thing is when cliped if you sample over empty pixels you get white rather then no color change.

  • Eye Dropper Tool (Color Picker Tool) not working correctly - Premiere CC - Windows 8 - Multiple Displays

I'm running Windows 8, Premiere CC 2014 with two monitors. The eye dropper tool (color picker tool) isn't working correctly. It is selecting colors that are not the colors being hovered over. I've reasearched and see solutions to the problem when occurring with Mac, but do not see a solution for Windows. When I disconnect the second monitor, the eye dropper tool works correctly (as described by Mac users). I deleted any profiles for the montors that weren't the same, and still having the issue. I've also tried putting the source monitor on the second monitor, and tried sampling color from there... same result.

    Hello All,
Problem solved...I reset all tools in the Tool Preset window. Seems to be working.
    Hope this helps someone...
    Cheers!

  • Why does eye dropper Lab show a different value than the Lightness channel?

Can someone help me understand how the L in Lab color in the eye dropper tool maps to the actual Lab Lightness channel?  Both are on a scale of 0-100, but they clearly show different values.  Here's a video that show what I mean (note that if I completely desaturate the color, I get the same results, it isn't a color thing).

I cannot read much useful in the OP's video, but I think, the OP is not talking about
HLS- or HSL-Lightness (not available in PS CS6) or HSB-Brightness, but only about
CIELab Lightness in two different modes:
    Figure 1:
    Figure 2:
The area was filled with a gray L=50 a=0 b=0.
In Figure 1 all channels are selected. The values are correct.
In Figure 2 only the Lightness channel is selected. The value L=54 is wrong.
    What might be the reason?
Measurements were always taken inside the area. The RGB-values are the same in both modes.
Please don't verify this by measuring in these Forum-images. These are PNGs in RGB.
Please verify by repeating the trial.

  • After Effects Color Correction Eye Dropper

I use the Color Correction Eye dropper for clothing videos and recently it stopped letting me select the dropper.  I've tried restarting the program and computer.  Would I need to re-install After Effects?

We are going to need a lot more information.
What exact point number version of AE are you using? 12.2.1? 11.0.4?
    What effect are you using?
    How are you using it?
Screenshots showing things like your comp window, timeline, and effects panel would all be helpful in demonstrating your issue.

  • How can I eye dropper a color??

When I use the eye dropper it doesn't pick up a color, it picks up the setting of the object selected. So for example if I have two objects and the one on top has a style, a blend mode and opacity and where two areas of the two objects intersect I want to sample the resulting, exact color. Let's say the color is purple. When I eye dropper that point it picks up green, because that is the color of the object originally not after all the processing.

    1. Draw a temporary object (rectangle, etc.)
    2. Select the object(s) involved in the transparency stack from which you want to sample a color. Object>Rasterize.
    3. Select the temporary object.
    4. Eyedropper: Press and hold Shift while dragging about in the raster object. The temporary object's fill takes on the color under the cursor.
    5. Edit>Cut the temporary object to the clipboard.
    6. Edit>Undo until you have undone the rasterization of step 2.
    7. Edit>Paste. The pasted copy of the temporary object will still have the fill color you sampled.
Simply holding Shift while sampling with the eyedropper enables it to pick up colors from grads or raster objects, but does not cause it to pick up the screen colors resulting from transparency effects. That's why the above-described steps involve a temporary rasterization of the objects involved. The reason for the temporary object is to work around the fact that Undo also undoes the Eyedropper step or the addition of a Swatch were you to try that before undoing the rasterization. Undo does not, however, undo a copy/cut of something to the clipboard.
Everything in Illustrator is a workaround.

  • Indesign Cs4 6.01 and Eye Dropper Crash

    Anyone getting this problem?
Have some text off to the side in a textbox, and i am trying to use the eye dropper tool to change its style to some text in another text box and Indesign is crashing.
The text is even the same font family, just a differnt colour and size.

First thing to try is replacing the InDesign preferences.

  • Trouble with the Eye Dropper tool

The Eye Dropper tool is acting funky. It was preventing me from picking up the color of my template when in outline mode - instead selecting no fill and no stroke. I finally got it to work by unchecking "Appearance" in the tool options. I didn't actually change any settings inside appearance (everything inside is still checked). That did allow me to select the templates color, but now it is also selecting my "path color". If my layer's color is set to Cyan for example, eye dropper actually selects cyan if i click on the path.
Is there a way to allow template color selection but avoid path color selection?
EDIT: I just discovered that these settings don't even pick up the template color correctly. They choose the color of the auto-dim/opacity that occurs when setting a template.

When working from a template in outline mode, put the template on a template layer (see manual on how to do that). Then work on another layer. Only that second layer should be in outline mode.
Then, when picking up colors from a template pixel image, press the shift key when picking up the color with the eyedropper. Of course what Jacob says about screen values remains.
When asking questions in the forum, please be very specific about the tools you use and the artwork you use them on.
