Eye One Monitor with NEC 2690, SpectraView combination?

Hello,
I need to equip a new MacPro for my retouching business. I am considering the NEC 2690. I saw the version that comes equipped with the calibration device and SpectraView software. I was wondering if I could use my existing Eye One Monitor calibrator, and purchase the NEC LCD2690WUXI-BK (which is the version without the software and calibrator), and then buy the SpectraView software separately.
There isn't much price difference ($100) if I go this way, but I have been happy with the results that I get with the Eye One Monitor.
Does anyone know if the Eye One Monitor that I have is better or worse than the one that would come with the NEC 2690? I think that it is an X-Rite/Eye One unit also.
I did send the Eye One Monitor to X-Rite for recalibration and a small repair, and I received a brand new unit.
Thanks,
John Hill

I just purchased an NEC 2690. It's being driven by a MacPro.
Something very strange just happened:
The resolution of the monitor changed to 1600x1200 (supposed to be 1920x1200.)
No, this is not an issue of the wrong setting being chosen in System Prefs > Displays. I have 1920x1200 chosen there. It's the monitor itself. Upon start-up, it displays data showing resolution and frequency in the upper right corner. It says "1600x1200." I can confirm this by using the monitor's OSD and going to the info section where it says "1600x1200, 59.9Hz."
I've used it for about a week at the correct resolution. Any ideas what could have caused this change? And any idea how to get it back to 1920x1200? (And no, resetting to factory defaults doesn't do it.)
Thanks in advance.
Edit - One possibly important fact: This happened near the time that I launched a trial version of ColorEyes Pro (which I didn't get very far with.) Don't know if that's pertinent.

  • How to use one monitor with two Power Macs

I searched this forum and was unable to find an answer. Although I believe it's probably here.
Nevertheless, I have a Power Mac G5 and a rarely used Power Mac G3. I'd like to share the G5's VGA Accusync 120 CRT monitor with the G3. I know there is a way to switch the monitor between computers without pulling plugs in and out of the machines.
Does anyone have any specific switch I could buy to solve this issue. I don't care so much for picture quality for the G3. But I don't want to compromise picture quality for the G5.

You're looking for what's called a KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch.
This one should do what you're looking for. I've not used it, but it does VGA switching like you want and is inexpensive.

  • One monitor with mac mini and pc

i have a new mini and i want to use my dell flat panel with it. I assume all i need is a vga splitter. Does anyone have advice on this, such as one that works well? Any advice is appreciated.

I am using a Dell flat screen at work as well and it allows digital as well as analog input. In case your model is similar you might just connect the Mac with the digital in (providing a better image as well) and continue using the analog for your PC. Switching between the input devices works pretty easy as well with the "-" button on the panel...
unless Mac and PC have to share as well keyboard and mouse, then you need a KVM-Switch (Keyboard, Video, Mouse).

  • Calibrating 23" cinema with eye one 2

Does anyone know how to tweak profiles when using eye one 2 with 23" cinema display.
The profile created is not as good as could be ...blue is way off the red/green curves.

    Hi-
I too have this same problem.
In my case I believe the native white point on this screen is too high. (the i1 Display 2 reads it at 8500k -way too bluish.) so when you attempt to bring the white point down to 6500k or even 7000k it's like looking thru magenta sunglasses -not good. I do a lot of nature photography and vegetation appears an unnatural bluish-green. (If I bring the color temp down to around 5000k or 5500k; I can get leaves and trees to look OK but then everything else looks pinkish. -also on any scrolling text it has a pinkish smear; except when at the native white-point.
I am wondering if my screen has an abnormal backlight because when I compare it to my Ti-book, my friends 30" Cinema Display, the gloss 15 or the anti-glare 17 at the Apple store; mine appears considerably bluer. (I haven't yet seen another 15 a.g.) -my screen is a 9CBB -It has no stuck or dead pixels or uneven brightness so I am a little hesitant to exchange my machine only to have other problems.

  • Color Management - Different Lab-Values in Eye-One and PS4

After having calibrated my screen "Eizo" and my printer Epson 3800 for - in this case paper Tecco PL285 carefully, I reached almost exact the same Lab-values, as I checked the monitor profile, printer profile and messured the printed output with Eye-one - (Monitor-Profile, Print Profile PL285, Result Photoprint) see table below. Colorprofil ICC was Adobe1998 in all cases. My monitor is calibrated with Kelvin 5500, Gamma 2.2 and brightness 120.
BUT my question is - as I messured the colors direct in PS4 with the pipette (Photoshop messure), the Lab values were very much different. Can anybody explain me the different or tell me where to adjust ? - A pure "human-eye-control" with my eyes saw the colors as almost being alike, but trying to be perfect - I will be happy to learn about/solve this.

  • An old-chestnut...Eye-One Pro problems

Can anyone help me? There was a thread running a while ago, since closed, about problems with X-Rite Eye-One monitor and print profiler, and problems with getting the kit working. It all seemed to boil down to a problem with HP drivers. I gave up on this matter last year, assuming I'd lost my money, but I really do need to do a print-profile, and the kit is still not recognised in Leopard. The solution appeared, then, to be deleting HP drivers supplied by HP, and then to re-install HP drivers supplied by Apple. Is this still the only way of fixing this, and if so, how do I get the HP drivers from Apple (the link given by X-Rite to Apple doesn't work)? If anyone has found a solution to this infuriating issue, I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Ben,
I'm afraid I don't know as for the X-Rite & Print Profiler. But I know that the Apple HP Divers are on the Leopard Disk, or the Restore disks that came with your computer.

  • Two Mini Mac and One Monitor

    Hey everyone,
Whats the best one to do? I have two mini mac and one monitor with a WIRELESS (Bluetooth) keyboard and mouse...
    Should I get a KVM or Network,etc?
Or what is the best advice for me to get?
Im using one Mini Mac for work just as Photoshop and Lightroom ONLY,
Other mini mac for play around, download, internet search, etc
both 10.4.11 BUT will get Snow Leopard soon...
    1.66 Ghz Inter Core Duo
    and
cant remember the other Ghz as its shut down at the moment but higher then 1.66Ghz, Inter Core Duo
    Johnny

...with a WIRELESS (Bluetooth) keyboard and mouse...
Do you have a separate keyboard & mouse for the other Mac? Bluetooth keyboards and mice normally can only be paired to one device and since the Bluetooth receiver is built-in to the Macs, you normally can't attach your Bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse to a KVM. (If you have a non-Bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse with it's own dedicated receiver, then it's possible to use that with a USB KVM. But those are mostly PC keyboards/mice so most Mac people don't have such.)
So that basically eliminates KVM as a sharing device for you. Leaving just something like screen sharing to remote control one of the Macs. You probably will not like the way Photoshop and Lightroom work over screen sharing, so remote control just the "internet only" Mac, not the Photoshop Mac.

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • My Eye Dropper STILL does not work in CS5 while using Lion with one monitor. How can i fix this?!?

    Hello everyone!
This is my first post because i have grown very disgruntled at the fact that my eye dropper does not work my Premiere CS5. I would use the Ultra Key a lot but now I obviously can not really use it too well because of no eye dropper. I saw that this problem existed after the Lion update but this really should have been fixed by now. I am using only one monitor also. Is there a way to fix this or is this still known to be broken? I paid good money for CS5 and would be very upset if the only way around this is to pay MORE money to upgrade to CS5.5. Thanks.

Thanks for the response Stephen! I find this very bad on Adobe's part though if they do not feel obligated to fix CS5 for Lion. Eye dropper is a major part of Premiere and i am going to be very dissapointed if they do not fix that. With the amount of money the Suite costs, they definitly should make sure it runs well for quite a few years. I would expect a copy of CS4 to be able to work too. If they do not fix CS5 all because the OS has changed basically tells me that every 2 years or so, they stop caring about their product.
Sorry i sound so bitter about this but it has really hurt my workflow. Ultra key is great and something that FCP does not have so it has the edge in that respect, but now i can not even properly use it. I have to go into After Effects with the same clip, use that eyedropper to get the correct color # and then copy and paste the # into Ultra Key in Premiere which is very very annoying and slows down my system quite a bit.
So basically, they are probably not going to ever fix this? Thanks again

  • Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?

My mac mini has Elgato 'Eye TV' software that runs in 'Full Screen'.  I want to keep this setting & also connect another monitor to the macmini & use other Appilications on the other monitor?  Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?
    My early 2009 macmini can run Mac OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8

Yes, run one from HDMI and the other from Thunderbolt/minidisplayport sockets. In EyeTV Preferences check the screen you want for full screen use and make sure your Dock is on the other one.

  • Monitor calibration no longer works -- eye-one display 2

I have been reasonably successfully calibrating monitors for my Mac Pro desktop (Apple monitor) and Macbook Pro laptop for close to 3 years, with an X-rite eye-one display 2 system.  I'm using Mac OS 10.6.6 on both computers.
Over the last several days, calibrating on both monitors has yielded widely inaccurate profiles, although I'm calibrating the monitors in the same way I always have.  On the MacPro/Apple Cinema, the calibration seems to be proceeding fine, when I've finished the process, "before-after" looks good (i.e., slight change for the better with the new calibration); but when I click "finish calibration" and exit the software, the monitor profile is completely out of whack.  On a given image, about half the colors are now out of gamut (where none were before).  Similar symptoms on my laptop.  I tried downloading the latest software from X-rite on my desktop, and it didn't seem to help.   (On the other hand, when I calibrated my Apple monitor using the "Easy" option in the software, it actually worked almost acceptably, except for the luminance.)
The only way I can even use either computer is to go to system preferences and switch to the monitor to the most recent profile I was using before these troubles began.  (The laptop is actually unusable without going back to an earlier profile, because the drop-down texts at the top of the display are completely blacked out.)
Since this sort of behavior is happening with two different computers and monitors, and I've downloaded the latest software from X-rite (and reinstalled the software from the original installation disk), I'm assuming that the problem is with the puck (hardware).
I realize it may be hard to provide advice, given my difficulty in describing exactly what's happening.   But I'm interested in anyone's advice or thoughts. -- E.g, how to get through to X-Rite for help, altho from other forums, I've gotten the impression they won't be much help; is there any forum specifically devoted to eye-one display 2 (especially if this is the wrong forum).  Is there an expected life for the pucks (mine is about 3 years old)?  Do they sometimes fail in this way?
    Thanks.

It was an extremely frustrating process trying to know if indeed this was the way to calibrate this monitor, and after spending so much time and research was all I could come up with. Did you notice the graphing results of both types of calibration? The red (I believe it was) of the RBG graph line was not lined up at all with the G and B thus the weird color on the monitor, and with the Easy mode, they were at least in line, more or less.

  • Pantone eye-one Display 2 monitor calibration software - auto starting

    Hi,
I just calibrated my monitor using Pantone's eye-one Display 2 hardware and software (3.6.1). Now, when I login, the eye-one match software icon appears in the dock, bounces a few times, then disappears.
The software instructions made no mention of this. What is it doing? Can I stop it? Just as a matter of principle, I really don't like programs starting themselves and doing unknown things.
    Thanks!

The x-rite i1 display 2 won't work with any LCD lit panels. I've attended a x-rite training only six weeks ago and the guy explained the issues. So if you want to calibrate any LCD backlit screen, you have to get a more expensive thing -- maybe the Colormunki will do, but for sure the i1Pro will work. It's still a quite expensive upgrade.

    Hi leicaflexsl2,
It took me as long as it did because the HP Eye-One is a commercial product. I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community.

  • Why does my Mac Pro late 2013 drive both monitors with one GPU?

System report shows both of my WQHD monitors are running on one GPU.  When I add an HDMI display, it also runs on the same GPU.  Why would it not split the load?  This makes me wonder about when both GPUs are working, if ever.  Since Activity Monitor does not report GPU activity, does anyone know of an app that gives real-time reports on GPU usage?

If you add six displays, they will all be supported by one GPU -- the display GPU. The second GPU is reserved for un-interrupted GPU computing and has no Display output Hardware.
Anandtech has a discussion of this in his review of the late 2013 Mac Pro.
Under OS X the situation is a bit more complicated. There is no system-wide CrossFire X equivalent that will automatically split up rendering tasks across both GPUs.
By default, one GPU is setup for display duties while the other is used exclusively for GPU compute workloads. GPUs are notoriously bad at context switching, which can severely limit compute performance if the GPU also has to deal with the rendering workloads associated with display in a modern OS. NVIDIA sought to address a similar problem with their Maximus technology, combining Quadro and Tesla cards into a single system for display and compute.

  • Jagged text with NEC monitor & ATI 5770 graphics card

I just upgraded from a 23" ACD to the NEC PA271, which receives rave reviews in the design/photography communities.
Overall, I'm happy with the change. But one thing I've noticed is that some type appears jagged. It's almost as if anti-aliasing is behaving differently.
Display preference is set to native resolution (2560 x 1440). LCD font smoothing is turned on.
I've been on the phone with NEC. They had me send some screenshots. I also sent screenshots from my MacBook Pro for comparison. They agree that it's not right.
I told them I would see "snow" when the monitor first woke from sleep with the DVI connection, and they said that wasn't normal so they asked me to try the mini-display to display cable. I did, since I have the ATI 5770 card with 2 mini-display ports, but that didn't help.
Next step is they're going to replace the monitor. But it seems strange that it's only the text that doesn't display properly, and even then only certain text.
Just wondering if anyone here has any ideas before I go through the hassle of replacing the monitor.

In case anyone else has this problem:
I figured it out. It's described in this article:
    http://macperformanceguide.com/Trials-FontSmoothing.html
I chose the "medium" setting, and it looks fantastic. The text is now dark, clear and smooth – even when small.
