Eye TV 250 trouble

I don't know if this is the right place for this but I'm having trouble with my EYETV 250.
It basically works fine, great product and all, but there's one important thing that's not working.
In controls I have it set to Composite Video input and Games. But when I go to record it un-checks Games... And this makes it very difficult to capture what I'm trying to capture. Can you guys help me out here? I certainty need some help.

  • Elgato Eye TV 250 makes iMac "pop"?!

Just hooked up Elgato Eye TV 250 a few days ago to my new (Christmas) 24" iMac which has worked flawlessly from day one. I now notice that whenever the Eye TV application is open, every so often I hear a single pop come through my iMac. I haven't timed it, but I'm guessing it happens maybe twice every half hour (?). I am using a pair of external speakers (Altec Lansing) that work without any problems. I can't really tell if the pop comes from the speakers or from the computer itself. It's not a huge deal--a little annoying perhaps--but just thought I'd see if anyone knew what this was or, more importantly, if it could be doing any kind of damage?
    Thanks!

I've been using my eyeTV with my iMac 24" for just about a year with Comcast digital cable. I am able to view HD (16:9) content on those channels that are not scrambled. Today, I added a Direct TV STB (not HD) and I'm able to view razor sharp digital 4:3 as my STB is not HD capable. I don't have a HD box handy, but I would suspect that if you have one, you should be able to view the D*TV HD programming including movies. I know someone who also has the D*TV HD bundle and he routes his composite video out to a Samsung DVD Player/Burner. He can create movie DVDs in 16:9 "HD" using this setup. His TV is connected via HDMI from the DVD player so he can watch those movies in real time as well.
My only question right now is that while I can see the D*TV Guide on my mac's screen... when I switch channels with the mouse, it shows the change... but remains on the previous channel. So I have to use the D*TV remote to switch channels... a real PITA.

  • Eyes crossed from trouble shooting extra space and 1px bug

I"ve been trouble shooting a couple of pages theat are giving
me some grief. I've searched therough the forum threads and tried
all the solutions, which seemed viable, but to no avail. I have a
couple of pages with image maps for navigation that are creating a
range of extra space at the page bottom. I could really use a fresh
set of eyes, to scan my code, I've been over it and over it and
it's starting to blur. I've attached a portion of my master CSS
page, as well as code for lot 8 and 9 pages. Lot 8 has no extra
space in FF and just a bit in IE. Lot 9 is a prime example of the
greater issue on the other pages.
Additionally. I have a hack in place to accomodate a 1px IE
bug that shifts the page body right in IE. That hack is only
working on a few of the pages, when viewed in FF, which leads me to
believe something must be off. Again, My eyes are crossing from
    reading over the code.

Hey guys, im not exactly sure if this is the right place to post this but whatever... i'll post it anyways. I was wondering if this product is able to allow me to record video
of me playing halo 2 onto my computer and put it in I Movie
so that i can edit it.
(thanks in advance for any help you can offer)

If you mean recording while you're playing HALO on your Mac, then no. It records from a video input or external source. What you need is a screen recorder program.
Well if you were playing HALO on a game console (say, XBOX) and inputing the video feed in the EyeTV 250, then yes. If you go to the Elgato homepage it's all there. They refer to it as "Game mode".

  • Eye TV 250 Plus and Mac OSX Leopard

Does this device work well with Leopard? Also, has anyone used this device to capture VHS to MPEG-2? Does it do so without dropped frames?
I understand this device can buffer Live TV to RAM. Is ok to do with Leopard and does it make that RAM available again after closing the app.? Thanks.

Canopus will convert the analog source to DV format which is natively editable by iMovie.
EyeTV 250 and EyeTV Hybrid will convert the analog source to MPEG2. To edit in iMovie you need to further convert the MPEG2 files using MPEG Streamclip (free) and the Apple QuickTIme MPEG2 Playback Component ($20). You can convert them to AIC or DV for best editing results. I deinterlace in this step, as well. If you don't plan to edit, you can sent the MPEG2 files directly to TOAST from the EyeTV software. You can also convert the MPEG2 files to h.264 format using the EyeTV software for use on AppleTV, iPhone, iPod, iTunes, etc.
Personally, I use the EyeTV Hybrid, which is all you need if you have an Intel Mac. If you have a Power PC Mac, get an EyeTV that offloads the processing such as the 250. I have to go through an extra step before editing, but I am getting excellent results, and I also get to watch and record HDTV on my Mac.
These days, I should also mention that the EyeTV solution connects via USB, while the Canopus connects via Firewire. Some recent MacBooks do not have a Firewire port, but if you have an older Macbook, or any iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, they should all have firewire.

  • Eye TV 250 with 128 MB VRAM?

I would like to know if the eyeTV250 works fine with the intel iMac with 128 MV of VRAM instead of the 256?
I read somewhere the it requires 256? Can I still use it with 128 MB and would it work fine?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions. Firstly a couple of general points.
For future reference you've posted in the iMac G4 "Flat Panel" forum
You will be better to post in the iMac G5 or iMac Early 2006 forums in futureas you either have an iMac G5 or an iMac Intel (known as iMac (Early 2006)). Which particularly if you have software issues the type of processor will be valuable info on within these forums. The G5 is a totally different (64bit PowerPC) processor versus the 32bit Core Duo Intels in this year's iMacs.
    G5: Intel:
    - the users there will share more common experiences.
    On the TV question.
I have a MigliaMini USB2 TV tuner that uses the same software as the hardware EyeTV250 i.e. Elgato's EyeTV software version 2.2.1. It all works just fine on my iMac G4 1.25GHz with just 64Mb VRAM although I do usually switch it off from playing Live TV (it records okay) when I'm working in iDVD or iMovie because it ***** too many processor cycles. I think you'll be more than okay on your whizzy Intel Core Duo though...

  • Red-eye editing trouble

I recently bought my mother a 20" G5 hoping that it would be more reliable than her old laptop. Most things went well except for iphoto.
As soon as the G5 was online i updated the software ilife, os etc (2weeks ago).
I saved all her photos from an old XP laptop onto and external harddrive.
I then imported from the harddrive by dragging straight into iPhoto. The pics went across fine. BUT
Whenever she tries to adjust red-eye, the editing image changes, the system saves on clicking on done, the thumbnail changes and then when you reopen the file the redeye has returned.
When i imported the same files in the same way on my slightly older imac G5 the red-eye changes without trouble.
Her files are not locked or read only.
    Any ideas...

No. The only control over the red eye correction in iPhoto 08 is the size of the spot used. That would be a good feature request to make at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How to use Mac Mini's and HD Freeview to capture raw TV satellite feeds in NEW ZEALAND?

Hello, this is my first post on this kind of forum - I am not very tech savy so go easy on me! Ideally I am hoping someone can offer some constructive advice.
I am part of a business that captures television off air as part of an ongoing contract. The system was implemented years ago and consists of 12 capture chains which are set-top cable boxes. They are a mix of Freeview NZ (free) and Sky TV (pay) - both on Satellite (Optus B1 I believe). The boxes are connected to Eye TV 250 boxes which are running through mini mac's (Mac OS X 10.5.4) that all have 1TB drives attached.
We are capturing two hour scheduled harvest stream blocks, and editing the individual programmes out manually, for an average of 15 hours - equivalent to 27GB, per capture chain, per day. While this system works ok it is very labour intensive and we would like to make the system more automated. There are also a few issues which I would really appreciate some guidance or suggestions on:
1/ Eye TV turns the digital signal from the decoder to analog and then back out to digital again because we are using S-video composite cables. Ideally we would like to capture HD Raw signal with little or no compression at all. We could upgrade to the Eye TV HD box but would prefer not to because.....
2/ ...Eye TV creates a proprietary file format (Eye TV specific file) that requires exportation to play in QT or VLC and while you can export as MP4 this takes a considerable amount of time. Up to 7 hours for 1 hour of capture - far to slow for our requirements. Therefore we export as a Mpeg Program Stream which slightly compresses the file and spits out an Mpeg 2. IDEALLY we would be creating H.264 files
3/ We can only export up to 2 hours, 15 minutes of capture (any more than that and the file goes dead (black) from that point on).
4/ Because we are in little old NZ, Eye TV (North American) won't pick up the local EPG (Electronic Programming Guide). This means all the scheduling has to be done manually and the meta data is not captured.
So ultimately we would like a system that captures television with little or no compression of the digital signal, in an H.264 format, with the New Zealand EPG (Electronic Programming Guide) available for both scheduling and metadata, that fits within a Mac system, is not Eye TV (or does not create software specific files) AND is cost effective.
    Goodluck.

Hello & welcome to the foruns!
Maybe I can help with one facet...
Just a quick note for people who use Elgato’s EyeTV on their Macs in New Zealand. I’ve got an Automator script here that will fetch a TV schedule and load it into EyeTV. It takes care of deleting the file it downloads but you might need to open it (use the Automator program) to change where it downloads to.

  • Need Help Deciding on a MAC Mini

    Hi All,
Quick question for the experts here, because, I am actually torn right now on spending some money for a new Mini.
I am currently using a 2006 iMac, 2.16Ghz Intel Core 2 DUO with an ATI Radeon X1600.
I do movie converting, HD TV streaming (Eye TV 250+) unit, some web surfing, Music conversions, and, stream Audio.Video from my iMac to my iPhone/iPad when I'm away from my house and Garageband Recording (usually an 8 to 10 track recording)
all seems to work well, but, within the last year, even after a full reinstall of OS X, things are starting to bog down. I am running Lion on it now, and, for the most part, it's "OK", but, I kinda think it could be a little snappier and a little faster.
So, I'm looking at buying the i7 MAC Mini.
My question is, will this be a step forward, or, is my iMac a little better? (I don't know. this might be a stupid question). Basically, will I notice a HUGE improvement.
As I type this, I have the MINI in my shopping cart and I am approved for the 1 year finance plan. All I need to do is click "Purchase", but, I wanted to get some opinions on this before going ahead with it.
Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated

Yes. I have a monitor ready for it. I also have an external CD/DVD Drive as the internal in my iMac hasn't been too reliable lately.
I agree about the price of apple's memory. What I did was, as soon as I ordered the Mini (Yes, I went ahead and ordered it. i couldn't wait any longer), I went to the crucial website and got an 8gb memeory kit for $37.00, so, I was pretty happy about that
Anyway, thanks for the reply. I figured I would notice an improvement as well. I'm thinking, ESPECIALLY with video conversions

  • Trying to transfer from a VCR...

I have a vcr hooked up through ElGato eye TV 250 and have recorded clips to my harddrive. According to iMovie, it can accept any format. well, guess what...it doesn't. A quicktime error comes up...the error is as follows...
The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HD/Users/Documents/EyeTV Archive/Live Recording - 4/3/07 12_58 AM.eyetv” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -43
This doesn't look like being able to accept any format to me. The tutroial, from what i've seen, doesn't address recording from a VCR.
If anyone can help. it would be greatly appreciated. I have a ton of video to edit and create.
    Thank you.
iMac Dual Core 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

welcome chrono to the  boards of discussions...
    any format.. huh..? no:
iM is a DV-editor, meant to import lossless from firewire connected miniDV devices, by using the same codec, 'dv'...
due to the underlying Quicktime engine, iM 'swallows' some other (audio, video, still) codecs.. but not 'any'... the QT error -43 let us guess, it is somekind of mpeg...
the suffix of your file, you're trying to import, 'xxx.eyetv', is telling us, it is a proprietary format of your converter device..
I'm not familiar with these products, afaik, they come with some software, which allow an 'export'... if that export allows diff. formats, choose 'dv-stream'... if 'mpeg(2)' is the only option, you need to convert that with additional software (mp2 plugin (Apple, 19$)+ Mpeg Steamclip (free, www.suqared5.com) ...

  • No video input for external devices on iMac 24" display???

I got a 24" iMac a few days ago and love this thing. (Was in PC **** for last 30 years...) But one thing I am disappointed in is that there appears to be no video input to display video or to video capture. Is the only way to display video from an outside source by using a USB video capture device? For example, if I have a cable box or game console I want to display on the monitor, how can I do that? Seems silly to need to use a capture device to simply display video. Please let me know if there is simple way to do this. Thanks!

I don't see how using a camcorder would help especially although it would be technically possible to use it as a bridge between other devices I can't see how it would be worth your while.
Obviously not speaking from experience since almost all if not all DV cameras have passthrough, and feed video into a mac via firewire from the analog audio and video input port on the DV camera. They have been used for ages as decks (and are many times cheaper than DV decks) and as converters vs. buying a Canopus box etc., which are basically the same thing.
The EYE TV 250 does the same thing with a USB connection and its own software but for the myriad of DV cam owners the passthrough is a fine idea.

You can connect the composite video and analog audio out to a EYE TV 250 which has a cable that connects to its little mini USB port for this very purpose, then record to MPEG-2 using the hardware encoder built into the device. Since it also has a tuner you can record TV directly using the EYE TV as well. It is a PVR like you have basically.
A DVD recorder might be similarly priced, maybe even less . I use one with DVD and HD to record from the line out on my PVR but I have the EYE TV 250 as well.
What you can't do is input composite TV into the MacBook if that's your idea.

  • Quality of Elgato TV signal on my Mac

Sorry, this isn't directly an Apple TV question but I figure people here will know...
I'm using the Elgato Hybrid to receive TV signal on my Mac and while it is working, the quality of the video isn't good. I've tried adjusting all the software settings, but it looks considerably worse than my (old) TV and doesn't seem to match the great comments this product has gotten on website reviews. It's not stuttering (the video is smooth) but it is grainy and not sharp - like it's low resolution. Something is wrong; is there a way to figure out whether I am in fact getting all the performance out of this (compare it somehow to the pictures you guys get)? What are factors that impact quality? I'm in North America, using Comcast coax cable with a 17" Titanium laptop running 10.4.11.
Also, I have Comcast cable - if I switch to an "Eye TV 250 Plus" instead of the Hybrid, can I get the HD channels, and in that case, will the quality be even better (larger window, sharper image)? In that case, do I need a cable box from Comcast to access the high-number HD channels (830 etc.)? If so, how will the Eye TV 250 Plus change the channels on the cable box, and can I pick up the right piece of hardware somewhere (on-line?) or is Comcast the best place to go? Assuming getting the HD channels will improve the image further, what's the minimal hardware I need to get the channel 800's feed into the Eye TV 250 Plus (I think the Hybrid doesn't do HD TV)?
    Mike

some more dumb questions before I take the plunge and buy goods
I want to buy a "monitor quality" TV - Elgato [cost $150 and can be used on analogue / digital / even Fox] seems to be the simple key to turning a good monitor into an even better TV [2 meet the eye - the Apple 30" and/or the Dell 30" have resolutions of 2560 X 1600 - not sure what these numbers read but they look good, relevant to the best TV in that size
Next problem: to run a stand alone monitor as a TV [in my place on a kitchen wall - hence need it more as a TV rather than as a computer but I can see where a computer could be useful] using Elgato it will need to be connected to a mac computer => if this is correct what is the cheapest way forward
Solution, possible => could my imac run en external monitor at a distance [upstairs => downstairs via wireless or cable]
    Hope you can help

  • Migrating my Preferences to PS CC 2014

I haven't done this in a long, long time.  Is there an automated way to migrate Workspaces, Actions, Preferences in general from PS CC to PS CC 2014, in Windows 7?  I found this document Preference file functions, names, locations | Photoshop CS5, but when I follow the three-key instruction, all I manage to pull off is opening the Properties window.  A more detailed step-by-step instruction would be helpful... anyone!
Thanks for your time and attention.
    Miguel

There is potential but no known harm in doing this. With the Preset Migration, it is essentially doing this but also converting the files so they are supported by the new version. Without this conversion, there is the chance that some of the data will not work correctly and result in unexpected behavior. So I'd say try it, but keep an eye out for trouble.
