Eyedropper ignores layer option

I'd love to be able to designate for the eyedropper tool to ingore specificed layers in my document.
There's a placed dieline on the top layer of every packaging file. I'll never need to pick up attributes from it, and it would save a step if I didn't have to temporarily turn off that layer each time I needed to use the eyedropper on the layers below it.

Illustrator actually chooses the colors per the order of this palette, so your 5th layer would be yellow. Once you delete a layer, Illustrator attempts to assign a unique unused color, and tries to go back to the start of the list,  but that routine does not work well.
Could not find anything in the Illustrator preferences code, so do not believe you will find an easy solution to your problem short of editing the application itself.

  • History Panel Option to ignore Layer Blend Mode Changes

Using shift+plus and minus keys to see various layer blend modes eats up my History. Not quite sure why it even records... you can't use the History Brush to "blend" previous blend modes. And it is not difficult to go back to a previous blend mode. I'd like to see a History Option to ignore Layer Blend Mode Changes, like you have for Layer Visibility Changes.

OK. Changes in the Blending Dialog don't record in History until committed. Thanks!
But I don't see a way to quickly go through the various Blend Modes like you can with Shift+ plus/minus keys. I really like that keyboard method to rapidly view and compare various Blend Modes.

  • PS CS4 constantly gets stuck in the layer "options" menus

I'm talking about things like the Opacity, Fill, or.. I never know what to call that sucker with the "Normal, Dissolve, Multiply," etc. options. (Sorry, I'm not a newbie, just never had a term for that presented to me.)
If I use one of those drop-down menus, then try to do something else, e.g., select the Text tool by pressing "T" (I have my setting as such), I get nowhere. Photoshop ignores every attempt to move out of that layer options box.
I've tried hitting ENTER as has been suggested: no change.
I've tried hitting the Spacebar: no change.
Only after manually clicking - sometimes several times - various other items in PS do I get a change in selection.
Seeing as I try to use the mouse as *in*frequently as possible - thus relying on the various hot-keys in PS to maneuver around, this is excruciatingly annoying. Often times I don't even notice that my tool selection/change hasn't taken; only to realize that the last several keystrokes or mouse moves I've made haven't taken because... my 'selection' (cursor?) is stuck in one of those options menus.
Not sure what to do. Maybe there's a post out there abou this, however, if there is, I've been unable to come up with appropriate search string by which to find it.
    Thanks, in advance,
    Jennifer

That sucker is called "Mode" or "Blending mode" it says it on the options bar and the tool tips.
It sounds like you have a mouse problem (probably lack of use ).  Try a different one or unplug/plug it a few times.

  • Help with "layer options" + frame fitting

I don't really understand how layer options work in conjunction with frame fitting options. Sometimes I will have a number of illustrations embedded within the same illustrator file and rejig the layer visibilities in order to separate each one but I find that the image shifts within the frame, partly I suppose because the bounding box may have changed. Can anyone refer me to a document that explains how this works - and if there's a way to keep the position locked so that layer vix changes don't have an effect on positioning?

Or make a rectangle around all the art on it's own layer and give it no fill or stroke. As long as that layer remains visible, I don't believe you will see any shifting (In this case I'd choose "art" as the crop).

  • Why in the layer options does not appear to me "video layers" why? help

why in the layer options does not appear to me
    "video layers" why? help
I need to encourage and not because my computer does not appear to me and others computers that has the same photoshop cc if that option appears. It would be helpful to know what thanks

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked

  • Select Dual Layer Option even without a DL-Burner

My problem is the following: I would like to create a iDVD-project which has the size of a dual-layer DVD and save it as an image. Unfortunately I do not own a DL-burner and therefore the Dual Layer option is grayed out.
Is there a solution to make this option selectable even without a DL-burner?
Thank you very much for your replies
    Adrian

    No way that I know...
Do you know someone with an DL external FireWire burner? That might work.

  • Object layer options in InDesign not working when I revise my file in Photoshop?

I have placed a layered photoshop file on multiple pages in my InDesign document. The photoshop file has a folder for each page that I can turn on in InDesign with object layer options. This works well until I revise the photoshop file in any way. When the photoshop file changes, InDesign updates all of the versions of the placed image to some sort of default, no longering recognizing the object layers I chose before revising the file. I've tried both "update link options" at the bottom of the dialog box to no avail. Any suggestions? I am using CS6, version 8.0. Thank you.

In the Object Layers Override dialog for each instance have you got it set to preseerve the current layer visibility on relink?
That should work UNLESS you change the number, naming or ordering of layers when you edit. If you do that ID no longer knows whaat to do and always uses the current layer visibility in the saved file.

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of suppressed and unsuppressed content in indesign layer option?

what are the advantages and disadvantages of suppressed and unsuppressed content in indesign layer option?

I occasionally use layers set to suppress output for holding text that differs from the text in the visible part of a document that I need for variables or TOC entries sometimes, or for notes or guides I want in the file but I don't want printed. You might also want to suppress a layer with some sort of overlay, like the die-lines for a die-cut piece, when you export a PDF for screen viewing.
I'm sure you can come up with other reasons for having content on a page in the layout, but not in the final output.

  • Effects using Object Layer Options

Under Object Layer Options I would love to be able to apply effects to individual layers. If I can view / turn "off" or "on" individuals layers, then why not be able to apply effects as well?
For instance: say I have an image of an apple photographed on a white background, that includes a cast shadow, and I want to place that image on a colored background in InDesign. In Photoshop, I would build the file so the clipped apple is on layer 1. The cast shadow would be on layer 2 below.
When placed in InDesign, and using Object Layer Options, it would be great if I could set layer 1 to "normal" and layer 2 to "multiply"... thus having only the cast shadow multiplied to the colored background.
Currently my method would be to place the same apple image twice in InDesign (directly on top of each other). I then use Object Layer Options to hide the cast shadow on the top image and keep the object effect set at normal. For the bottom image, I set the entire image to multiply. I then group the two images together.
Not a tedious task by any means, but having the ability to apply different layer effects to a single image would streamline the process.
BTW: does Adobe review the Feature Requests posted in this forum, or only those posted using their wishform address?: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.
    Just curious.

I've seen that technique used if the shadow is built using black ink only. Does it still work if the shadow is a process blend?

  • [AS] Making "keep overrides" the default graphic layer option for all placed graphics?

If I relink thisLink when it is missing, and update link option was set to keep overrides, everything is fine. But if it was set to application settings, I am in a world of hurt, because suddenly all my Unit numbers will show 1-32 piled on top of each other (all layers visible in Photoshop) or the wrong one (just one layer visible in Photoshop) or nothing at all!
The catch-22 is that until I relink missing links, update link option only shows "unknown" as the result. Arrrgh?
set myLinks to every link whose status = missing
    repeat with thisLink in myLinks
get update link option of graphic layer options of parent of thisLink
-->Returns "unknown" instead of "application settings" or "keep overrides"
        try
set update link option of graphic layer options of parent of thisLink to "keep overrides"
            relink thisLink to newLinkPath
            update thisLink
        on error
-->This always errors on the set update link option line
        end try
    end repeat
Anyone know a way around this or should I just change my name to Yossarian?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric.

Well, I give you points for creativity! Unfortunately, relink is destructive and overwrites any info with the default (which in CS2 is application settings).
What really kills me is that InDesign has some Sooper Seekrit internal list that only the Links palette knows about. So if you *manually* try and relink the document and then revert it, it automatically relinks against all the paths you've tried since launching it and therefore, the second time all the links show as linked and the process is non-destructive, unlike the "relink" command.
    Argh.
I will think on it some more though. Thanks for your input!
PS: Adobe apparently broke the ability to relink against a string in CS4 from what I can tell. In spite of the fact that the dictionary specifically lists alias or string or string (yes, says or string twice in the dictionary), only alias really seem to work.
    So...
set newLinkFolder to "" & path to home folder & "Pictures:"
set newLinkPath to newLinkFolder & name of thisLink
    try
    relink thisLink to newLinkPath
    on error
    display dialog "FAIL!"
    end try
    try
relink thisLink to newLinkPath as alias
    on error
display dialog "No fail. You'll never see this message!"
    end try

  • When I uncheck the "Print" on layer options, all other layers disappeared!

Hi, I received a ai file from one of my clients, she set one of the layers to be not printing just for place holder. And I coudln't see any layers, originally I thought might be the graphic or fonts she's using, so I recreate the file tried to found out what font or graphics. But after I double click the layer, call out the layer options to uncheck the Print, it mess up the whole layer panel. I chatted with Adobe yesterday, the girl asked me to delete my font management plug-in and try. It didn't work. After that I was on hold with another girl from Adobe for 40 mins, she put me on hold most of time, phone got disconnected, never call me back. I was on my 3rd call with them, wait for another hour still didn't get to sort it out. I waste my whole day without getting the answer. Very frustrated.
I set the cyan circle on the bottom layer with uncheck print setting, after I click ok, on the layer panel every layers are gone. But I still see all the graphics.
Please help, I'm waiting Adobe to call me back in another hour. And it would be my 4th call with them.
Thank you and sorry with such a long question.

hello, could you go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information'', copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

  • I can't select the B&W adjustment layer option

When I click on the adjustment layer button in the layers palette, I can't select the B&W adjustment layer option nor the Vibrance, Exposure, or Channel Mixer options. I am using CS5 (just upgraded recently) in Windows.  I am not sure why I can't select them (the text appears in light grey and isn't available for selection). Thank you!

Thank you Chris - it was in LAB mode and i changed it RGB and all is well. I hope i marked your answer correctly.

  • Why are all layer options greyed out in Acrobat?

I had no issues editing and viewing layers before, but all of a sudden some of my layers are missing and my layer options are all greyed out. Please help!

Yes, it should contain layers. I was able to access them before.

  • Ignore Update Option For App Store?

Software Update for the Mac offers the "ignore update" option for an unwanted update. Is there a similar mechanism in the app store to ignore an update and remove the annoying badge promts?

... I'm running Snow Leopard. Is it possible this feature is only available in Lion?
I had to boot a Snow Leopard system to be certain but sure enough, it's there:
This is the "purchases" tab though.
If you have the grey "X" in "Purchases", see if hiding the purchase will also hide its available updates. I cannot verify this since I have no available updates at the moment.

  • "Ignore Trackpad" option missing??

I have been trying to disable my trackpad function, but the "Ignore Trackpad" option has suddenly gone missing from my System Preference>Trackpad menu! I'm using an early 2008 MacBookPro & have just installed Snow Leopard. Not sure if that is related. But can someone help me retrieve the "Ignore Trackpad" button again???

Apple disabled it and I have not found a way to get it to work. If you search Google or Apple Discussion, you will find a Terminal command, but it does no work for me.
