Eyedropper Picks Up Pattern Instead of Color

I have obtained a JPG image by “print screen” which I have copied into Illustrator CS6, and I am trying to pick colors from it with the eyedropper tool in order to make a gradient. It picks up the colors alright, and even lets me copy them to the swatches panel. But when I try to group the picked colors together, or make a gradient out of them, it won’t let me, and says that you can’t do that with a “pattern”. Apparently the eyedropper picks up a “pattern” rather than a “color” (although it looks like a color to me; there are no “patterns” on the JPG image that I can see); and that is what prevents it from either grouping them together, or creating a gradient out of them. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you. I tried that, and this is the screenshot of what I get:
The small squares on the left are the colors which I have picked from my JPG image with the eyedropper tool, from which I want to make a gradient. The one circled in blue is selected, and the "Recolr Artwork" dialog box relating to the selected color is shown on the right. I have copied the five colors into the Swatches panel, circled in yellow. As you can see, it has identified them as patterns, and placed them next to the other patterns in the Swatches panel. And it wont let me create a gradient out of them because it identifies them as patterns rather than as colors. If I select those five colors in the swatches panel and click on the little folder icon on the bottom of the panel to make a color group out of them, it comes up with an error message saying, "Color groups cannot contain pattern or gradient swatches." Screenshot here:
So it identifies them as patterns rather than colors, and the "Recolor Artwork" dialog box doesn't give me any information to help me resolve the problem, as far as I can tell. No idea why the colors are being identified as patterns (or gradients). They look like colors to me. I see no patterns (or gradients). And I can't understand why the color picker is not picking colors. I have doble clicked on the eyedropper tool to open the options box, and unselected all the options except colors, and it is still not picking up colors. It is picking up patterns or gradients, instead of colors.

  • Changing pie chart to 3D pie causes it to lose the master page scheme and become rock patterns instead.

    When I change my Keynote pie chart to a 3D pie chart it loses the master page color scheme, becoming rock patterns instead. I haven't been able to get it to return to the original color scheme.

    Thanks for the response.
    On the first issue, unfortunately formatting the legend using that technique results in no change to the legend. The only way I was able to get it to resize was by resizing the entire chart area.
    On the second point, I must be missing something. Do you mean that there is no way to format a chart such that all slices have the desired formatting at runtime unless the report is always run with the same parameters? I might as well just draw a static picture :/

  • How to keep the eyedropper tool from spontaneously changing into color theme tool?

    How can I keep the eyedropper tool from changing into the color theme tool? Is there a key command? Its very annoying when I am trying to copy format and it keep changing spontaneously into the color them tool. Using CC and OS 10.9.5 on a Mac Book Pro. Thanks!

    You can't. Terminal brainfade by the engineers.

  • Y_GCD_19000119 report problem. System is picking M rate instead of P rate.

    Hi,
    Report Y_GCD_19000119 should use the 'P' Exchange Rate (Standard translation for cost planning) when converting from EUR to USD.  Currently the report is not converting at the correct rate, which can be demonstrated when comparing a manual calculation with the P rate versus the rate being used in SAP, and noting that the two do not match.
    The system is picking 'M' Rate instead of 'P' Rate.
    Thanks.

    Hi Ravi,
    Please check the configuration in SPRO under Controlling > Cost Center Accounting>Planning --> Manual Planning --> User-Defined Planning Layouts --> Create Planning Layouts for Activity Type Planning

  • How can I apply a pattern above a color fill?

    Hello, I'd like to apply a pattern above a color fill, at the moment I apply the color fill, then I convert it to a smart object and apply the pattern, this because if I apply pattern and color fill, the color fill goes above the pattern covering it.
    There is a way for skip this procedure and apply the pattern above without smart objects?
    Thank you.

    Try this i am sure it will help you to achive the goal
    From your Layer Style -> Select Color overlay, then Change the Blend mode to "overlay"
    after that Select Pattern and it should work .

    Does your image have an adjustment layer or a layer mask
    on the layer that is active when using the color picker?
    If you have an adjustment layer, make another layer active
    and see what happens.
    If the layer that is active has a layer mask, click on image
    thumbnail to the left of the layer mask and try the color

  • Eyedropper picking up gradient but not custom angle

    Hello,
    When I have a box/shape with a gradient and a custom angle, which I created using the gradation tool, the eyedropper picks up the gradient, but not the angle. I have checked the eyedropper preferences and it is checked to pick up everything.. Is there a way to get the eyedropper to also have  it grab that custom angle.
    thanks!
    babs

    Using the eyedropper tool on the run is a great asset using the graphic style is as well on a complex job or if you have been away from the project for a while.
    For the Op it would be good to at least mark Kurts Response as helpful it is not a point thing but rather a way for other users to determined where to look for the answers to the same question if this is confusing them as well.

  • Eyedropper picking background color

    I read the FAQ, which really doesn't answer this question, I don't want to have to hit X to flip the colors. I used to select a color from the swatches palette and it went to the foreground color, all of a sudden my eyedropper tool sends my selected color as the background color. Is this a preference problem?

    Hey Buko...
    Can you see what you can do about getting that graphic added to the Windows-for-PS FAQ section?
    I'm not asking because I made the graphic. I asking because it very clearly answers the questionI'd make the request even if Ramon created the image!

  • Color Picker won't change the color properly?

    Hi guys,
    I have a weird issue with the color. When I changed the color from dark green to bright lime green on Color Picker. The Color Picker show the specific color I want and then I click "OK". It did not change the dark green to bright lime green... instead it show the dull green color. It is really bugging me because I can't figured it what wrong with it. I checked the Color Mode (RGB mode) and Color Setting... everything seems to be right to me.
    Here is the quick screenshot:
    I also tested with other color, it still have the same problem. They won't show the bright color, it show the dull color instead.
    I hope you guys can help me out!
    Thanks,
    Christie

    OK, a few more thought on this.
    Here's what I did and everyone can check for themselves. I made a screen capture of the Color picker and paste it in a RGB and also a CMYK document as shown on the images below. In the CMYK document this converts the RGB color values of the screen capture into the CMYK color space of the document and the colors in the palette are displayed within the document's gamut. If you take the eyedropper and click on any color of the palette on the image you will never get out of gamut colors and this is how they should be displayed in the real Color Picker. The Color picker can still display in a little box out of gamut color if they are selected numerically using the RGB or HSB models but the point is that the display of the palette should be converted to a CMYK color space.
    In the RGB document on the second image, like in the real picker, clicking on the palette with the eyedropper will give a lot of out of gamut colors.
    Now thinking about out of gamut colors. Illustrator decides what is out of gamut colors by comparing the color space of a CMYK document to the working RGB  color space set in the Color Settings and for an RGB document to the  working CMYK space in the Color Settings. But this is not practical all the time because it is one way only from RGB to CMYK and can not be set from CMYK to RGB, RGB to RGB, and CMYK to CMYK.
    CMYK to RGB example: you may have a  document with U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space and one of its destinations is an sRGB color space. Because you can't set CMYK to RGB for out of gamut consideration, Illustrator will consider out of gamut all sRGB colors that are outside the U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space. But in this case your destination is sRGB and all colors from the sRGB color space should be presented in gamut and there is actually a small part of the U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 colors that are outside of the sRGB color space and only these colors should be shown as out of gamut.
    RGB to RGB example: your document is set in Adobe RGB color space because it will be eventually printed to several RGB printers some of which may have narrower gamut than the document. Then you want to set Illustrator to display out of gamut only the colors in the Adobe RGB color space that the RGB printer can't print, but unfortunately this is not possible even if you have the color profile of the printer.
    CMYK to CMYK example: you may have a  document with U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space but one of its destinations is U.S Web Uncoated v2, or US Newsprint, again not possible.
    So, in all these examples, the out of gamut colors Illustrator gives in the Color picker and panel are completely useless. Of course the major tool for these tasks remains the soft proofing which is working properly but why not make the out of gamut colors in the Color picker and panel work better and make more sense.

  • PO price picked from PR instead of contract

    Hi Gurus,
    I have a situation, where SRM shopping carts are creating PRs in R/3 and these PRs are converted to POs. In SRM, shopping carts are created with reference to a contract in backend and the POs created in backend are picking price from PRs, instead of Contracts. When I try to manually convert a SRM PR to a PO, it is throwing a warning message like 'price being taken from PR...' and converting it to PO. It is happening with only one vendor, where as for others, it is working fine. The main issue, here is, the PRs coming from SRM are carrying different prices,where the business expects the PRs to pick the standard price from backend contract. If anybody experienced similar situation, can you please suggest me. Thanks!
    -Tirumala

    hi Tirumala
    While converting PR to PO usualy price will be fetched from contract,inforecord or last PO.
    There is option available to copy PR price to PO as follow
    SPRO>MM>Pur>Environment Data>Define Default Values for Buyers
    here click Settings for Default Values..
    and copy 01 & create another Default value..
    go to Price Adoption Tab in that and select Radio button for " always Copy"..
    Save
    Go to SU01 trxn.. and in the parameters assign the Default Value along with
    the parameter ID "EVO".
    Please check in SU01 whether EVO parameter is assigned with parameter ID

  • Background image instead of color

    Hi, I have a Flex 4 application with this code:
    <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
                   xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
                   xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
                   backgroundColor="#000000"
                   applicationComplete="appComp()"
                   width="1600" height="900"
    public function appComp():void{
        stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL;
        stage.align = StageAlign.TOP;
        //stage.align = StageAlign.LEFT;
    NOTE: In the index.template.html I have change all width and heights from the default "${width}" and "${height}" to "100%"
    The documentation says of SHOW_ALL : "Borders can appear on two sides of the application."
    I can change the color of these borders with backgroundColor in Application tag, but....   How can I put an image (or swf) instead of these Borders?
    THANKS.
    Raúl.

    Hi There,
    In my knowledge, there are two ways to do that.
    1) Create a skin for your application(I guess this option is only for advanced users) and choose the background colour there
    2) A trick which I found is take a border container and use a background image for this border container.
    e.g.:-
    <s:BorderContainer
      width="100%" height="100%" x="0" y="2" backgroundImage="@Embed(source='assets/images/nameofimage.jpg')">
    //other components
    </s:BorderContainer>

  • What can I use instead of color variations in Elements 12?

    I had a copy of Elements 6 for many years. The feature I used most often was color variations. Unfortunately, I was unable to install my copy on my new computer, and I figured it was time to upgrade to the latest version anyway. Image my surprise when I discovered there was no feature called Color Variations in this version. I'm floored. Most of what I do in Elements doesn't have to do with photography; I am scanning book covers and must have the colors display accurately. I have not yet figured out what to use instead. All help appreciated.

    If you are on WINDOWS, you can put Color Variations into PSEv.12. See here:
    Pse12 color variation function removed - Elements Village
    Hopefully, you still have access to PSEv.6.

  • I am getting a grid like pattern over solid colors durring a disolve

    I recently upgraded to Studio. When a sequence dissolves, especially to white, I am seeing a grid like pattern. I have also noticed this pattern in shots where there is a solid color in one location for a period of time. Any ideas?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Check your view options in the canvas or viewer pulldown menu (little radio button looks like a pill in the top center-right or either window.) Sounds like you have your background set to checkerboard 1 or 2. That grid is telling you there is nothing to be seen here. Set it to black if you want it black. This won't take away the fact that there is transparency mind you, it just shows transparency as black. You can choose white, as well.
