Eyedropper selecting outline color not underneath layer

I'm attempting to do a gradient mesh on an apple.  I'm stuck when filling the mesh with the eyedropper tool.
What i do is use the direct selection tool and click an anchor and then click the eyedropper tool on that anchor point  What is happening is the the outline color is being selected. So i found out Illustrator CS6 you have to hold shift while clicking the eyedropper.  I tried that and still can't get the color of the underneath layer, the fill color stays white?  Here is pic:
As you can see in the navigator window, the shade of red is that of the outline and not the apple underneath the outline.  I tried shift+eyedropper and white is the only color that get's sampled.  What am i doing wrong?

Yes the fill is focused.  Here is the eyedropper settings.  I tried again and it either samples the outline color or the smart guide color(green)  It should sample the template layer underneath(apple).

  • Make Eyedropper Set Foreground Color not Background

    How do you make color selections/sampling like with the Eyedropper set the Foreground color?
    It was always that way before CS3 unless I accidentally changed a pref unknowingly.
    Now when I select/sample color it sets the background color.
    I looked, but couldn't find a pref setting for this.

  • Eyedropper Selects Wrong Color

    Im using Photoshop CS5 (version 12.1 x64).
    When I try to use the Eyedropper Tool on a thin (1-4 pixel) shape (both pathed and raster) it will select the incorrect color and only give me a lighter, similar color.
    See below:
    This is me clicking right in the middle of this red line using the "pricision cursor" and it selects this pink color.
    I did not have this problem in previous versions of Photoshop.
    Anyone know why this is happening?

    Check the eyedropper tool -- you have it set to sample a larger area than a single pixel, so it's mixing the surrounding white in with your red line.

  • How do I use the eyedropper to select color in a layer

    Hi, if I bring a photo in to Photoshop, at that point I have just a layer and the eyedropper will work just fine selecting which ever color I want from that image. However, if I then bring in and place a second image into photoshop, so that now I have two layers that I'm working on, the eyedropper will not select any color on that new image. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but can't figure it out. I just want to be able to select a color from that second layer image.

    Hi, The options bar shows sample size 101 by 101 Average. That was my problem. When I was troubleshooting in order to try to explain to you what was happening, I noticed that when I sampled my models teeth, it gave me a color a bit lighter than her lipstick as my foreground color in my tool box. That started me thinking in the correct way. I didn't realize that my sample size had somehow gotten switched from point sample to 101 by 101 average. I appreciate the help. Thank you.

  • Layer Color not selectable?

    I have an imported svg file that I've saved to Illustrator 17.1. I can't seem to change the layer colors (they're all the same light blue) - the only options that come up in the Layer Options dialog are checkboxes for Lock and Show. Oddly, duplicating a layer seems to give the new layer a different color, but again I can't set the color of that layer myself.
    Really want to be able to do this, as I use layer colors to track their status (red = not even close to done, yellow = in progress, green = done in MY eyes, blue = done in the CUSTOMER's eyes).
    Thanks
    Tom

    It was an Inkscape file saved as Plain SVG.
    The strokes and fills generally imported fine. I had some filter effects and embedded pngs that did not import, but I was not unhappy about that. The layer structure generally came over fine, although there were many (sometimes MANY MANY) more Groups than in the original. Still, not hard to fix.

  • Selecting solid colors with Eyedropper

    Where is the option to have the Eyedropper only select solid colors and not multiple colors when sampling colors? I select the Eyedropper tool and do not see any options for this in the control panel.
    I only have options for Sample Size, which layers to sample from, and whether to show sampling ring.
    Thanks.

    Not sure what you really mean by "solid color."  A 1 px sampler will sample the solid color of that one pixel.  If you increase the sampler size, it will start to average the sampled pixels.  It will still be a solid color, jut a blend of the sampled pixel.  So if you want just the exact color that you're sampling, you should go with the 1 px size.

  • Selecting Color Balance adjustment layer brings up Levels adjustment layer

    Ok, so, all of a sudden I cannot get a color balance adjustment layer to come up. Every time I do photoshop creates a levels layer. Selecting levels makes a levels layer. All of the other adjustment layers seem to be working normally. How do I fix this? I have a deadline and no time to be reinstalling photoshop.

    Reinstalling the application seldom helps, and re-installing without trashing your preferences is futile as you end up right where you started.
    I understand your frustrartion, but please remember that you are not addressing Adobe here in this user to user forum.

  • How do I select a color range like in Photoshop OR copy/move a layer into the mask of another layer?

    Hi there,
    I'm trialling Photoshop Elements and wanting to use a black and white (grey scale) layer that I've made as a mask in another layer and don't know how to do it in Elements.  In Photoshop, I'd do this (there maybe a better way in PS to do it, but I haven't discovered it yet)...
    Click the layer i've created that I intend to use as a mask
    Select All
    Copy
    select layer that I want the mask to be applied to
    click the Add Layer Mask button (at the bottom of the Layers window)
    click the mask icon so it is highlighted (and the image isn't)
    switch to Channels view
    highlith the Layer Mask beneath the R,G,B layers and make it visible
    Paste
    make it invisible again
    switch back to layers.
    This works and retains the full range of transparency for semi transparency and soft edges of the mask etc.
    Alternatively, I can select a Color Range, but that doesn't seem to be available in PS Elements.
    So, how do I achieve the same result in PS Elements?
    Thanks for your help
    Jonno

    Perfect!   Thanks very much R_Kelly.  That does exactly what I was hoping to do.
    Cheers

  • Layer Background color not support on AP Element

    Hi I am new to dreamweaver. I just started learning how to
    use it, and I can't figure out why when I am validating the
    browser, I kept on getting a message that the layer background
    color is not supported in the AP element. I looked at my code and
    it seems fine. All I did was just insert the AP layer and I change
    the background color. Is there something I am doing wrong?

    Thank you. That's telling you that layer-background-color is
    NOT supported
    in those browsers (in fact, it's invalid HTML, being
    supported only in IE5
    and earlier). You should use CSS to specify colors, not the
    Property
    inspector, and you will avoid such traps. In fact, in CS3,
    when you use the
    Property inspector, the proper CSS is written in the
    stylesheet for you.

  • Color not changing on Selected Menu tab

    I'm creating a custom css and in doing so have been trying to change the text color of the selected menu tab. I've added it to my stylesheet but it is not changing upon running it. If I change the menu tab specifically via the properties of the tab, it will change. Is 'color' something we can change?
    Here is a snipet of my css:
    .af|menuTabs::selected {color:red;
    white-space:nowrap;
    font-family:Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,sans-serif;
    font-size:200%;
    background-color:white;
    font-weight:bold;
    text-decoration:none;
    Thanks,
    Lisa

A: Color not changing on Selected Menu tab

Your '.' before af|menuTabs is wrong.
It's just "af|menuTabs::selected" not ".af|menuTabs::selected".
Also, you need to use the ::selected-link pseudo-element to style the color of the text.
/* Make the selected tab bold */
af|menuTabs::selected-link
font-weight: bold;
font-size: 14pt;
color: green;
}

  • Could we have an eyedropper tool to select precise color to do HSL adjustments on?

    HSL is wonderful tool, I like it very much but would love to be able to precisely select a certain color with it's current HSL that is in my image and  with eyedropper tool and then only those pixels with that same color could be as custom color and have it affected by the HSL sliders.  now that would be cool, like color replacer in other programs
    thanks!

    You can do it. Click on the palette, hold and drag to your image. The eyedropper will sample colors outside the actual palette too.

  • Command-clicking layer name does not load layer as a selection (Photoshop CS2)

    Q: Why does Cmd-clicking a layer name not load the layer as a selection in Photoshop CS2?
    A: You must Cmd-click the layer thumbnail, not the layer name, to load the the layer as a selection.
    In Photoshop CS2 Cmd-clicking the layer name in the Layers Palette selects the layer. To select multiple layers use the following keystrokes:
    1. Multiple contiguous layers = Shift+click layer name
    2. Multiple non-contiguous layers = Cmd+click layer name

    It works for me and doesn't seem to care what tool i have selected or anything like that to make a difference. Maybe you should reset your preferences as it may be a glitch.
    Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift as soon as you tell photoshop to startup, and it will ask you if you want to delete the preferences, just click yes. (If you have a custom UI that you want to save, goto Windows>Workspace>Save Workspace, and then just reload it after resetting prefs.)

  • Allow the "Select a Color" eyedropper to select from the image.

    For example: you want to enhance the sky with blue...  it takes several attempts to get a natural oxygen blue from the rainbow box.  The ability to select that color direct from the image would give quicker and more accurate results.

    Feature already exists.
    Open the Adjustment Brush colour palette, click down anywhere on the palette while holding down the Alt/Option key, now while still holding down the Alt/Option key move the eyedropper to the image and click the spot you want to sample from.
    At least for me on Windows, you don't need to hold down a key.  Just click-and-drag.

  • Layer selection handles are not visible

    When creating a layer in DW 8 via the Insert > Layer
    Objects > Layer or by clicking on Draw Layer in the Layout tab
    in the Insert menu the Layer defaults to the width of my Design
    window. When I click on a Layer I cannot access any of the
    selection handles.
    Questions:
    1. How can I size a Layer to my liking instead of it always
    taking the width of my screen?
    2. What can I do so I can see eight selection handles when I
    click on a Layer?
    Thanks for looking.

    It sounds like you are looking at a <div> that is not a
    layer (it needs to
    be absolutely positioned to be a layer). Is that the case? If
    it is, then
    it SHOULD be the width of the screen, and it should have no
    resize handles.
    TO change the size you would need to edit the CSS.
