EyeTV to iDVD - fit four hours on 4.7 GB

I already e-mailed Elgato, and they told me this was impossible, at least the way I wanted to, and wondered if anyone has managed to succeed in doing this, as it is a struggle. My present system lets me go from EyeTV to Toast and create DVDs up to 4 hours in length. Unfortunately the menu selection in Toast is rather sparse, and I much prefer iDVD's menu selection process.
I haven't upgraded yet to iDVD 6, and was hoping someone here could convince me that it could replace Toast in what I do.
I have an Elgato EyeTV 200 box, and makes several exported formats with its EyeTV 1.8 software (which I may spend $50 to upgrade to version 2, if I hear it can do what I want). I captures the video as MPEG-2 muxed. Unfortunately if I want to use it in iDVD, I have to export it to DV first, and then import to iDVD. iDVD 5 anyway only lets me fit 2 hours of video on a single 4.7 GB DVD. Remember I said EyeTV can do 4 hours. Has anyone figured out a way to get the MPEG-2 files of EyeTV to be accepted by iDVD and maintain their 4 hour length when burnt by iDVD while using iDVD to construct menus in version 6 of iDVD? Does one need to go through iMovie to do this? If you outline a method to do this with iDVD 6, I'd like to know, as that would convince me to get iLife '06.
Thank you.

Well I do have Toast 6.1.1. I don't want to go
through the hassle of upgrading Toast again. It was
really silly the way they made it almost impossible
to get the 6.1.1 update when Toast 7 was released.
I finally managed to get it, but not after
twisting a few arms.
One option would be to use Popcorn.
Create a DVD image in Toast 6 and then use Popcorn to compress the DVD down so you can fit four hours onto a 4.7GB disk.
This functionality is included in Toast 7.
Personally I would get Toast 7.

  • Fitting four hours onto a DVD?

    Hello all.
Is there any way using Compressor to fit four hours of video onto a DVD?
When i try to compress, it gives me a maximum amount of something lie 174 minutes at a CBR of 2.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

I created a custom compression setting that allowed me to get 4 hours onto a single DVD5 (the 4.7gig single layer DVDs). However, the footage looked absolutely terrible.
It is much better to go with the 150 Min compression and put it on a Dual Layer DVD (DVD9: 8.5gigs of space).
    Hope that helps!

  • No Internet Access For Four Hours!

    Hi Folks,
Yesterday afternoon at approximately 2:00pm, I lost my internet connection. I thought it would just be a 'blip' that would correct itself in a couple of minutes. How wrong I was! My connection was down for just over four hours!! Because of some critical work I had been doing beforehand, I went into panic mode. I checked the loss of connection on two separate machines and the problem was for real. Incidentally, if it hadn't been for Network Magic Pro installed on both PCs, I would not have known what had happened. I used to rely on the flashing blue icon in the system tray but that only indicates network activity.
The longest I've ever lost my internet connection before this occurrence was about one minute and this was caused by interference from a neighbour using the same wireless channel as me. Easily remedied.
Although I live in Bracknell, I suspect this problem was more widespread but I have no way of knowing.
Did anyone else witness this problem?

    Get a faster Internet connection
Try disabling all Security software on the computer, that can cause problems with the download and install.

  • I've waited FOUR hours and the update for the new iPod software isn't done!

as the title says, i've been waiting four hours. iTunes is still backing up my iPod. last night i attempted downloading the new software, and it didnt transfer onto my iPod. the screen for my iPod in itunes says there is still an update, but im not exactly sure if i did something wrong. i was rudely awakend this morning at about 2 or 3 AM by my computer's bright screen and a 'bing' noise. I was still about half asleep, but I think it said that my computer had to be restarted to complete the operation. I hit "OK" and went back to sleep. I dont know if i did something wrong, but when I woke up later, i restarted my computer, and it still said there is an update, so I hit "update" and it started backing up my iPod. my iTunes sometimes freezes after left alone for too long, so i closed it. I started this process at about noon, and at 4 it was about 1/10 of the way loaded. anything would help! thanks sorry this is so long!

First time I upgraded my original iPod Touch it took hours. It was actually backing up all the videos and photographs on the iPod - no idea why as it shouldn't have done that and future synchs of both that iPod Touch and a newer version, and my two iPhones, were straightforward.
Although there was no camera in the first iPod touch I had lots of screen shots stored on it. I also removed all photos and videos from the machine and started again which speeded things. Do you have any apps which cache data (mbox mail, appsniper), if so remove those from the iPod - I have a vague recollection they affected the install.
Good luck, I remember how frustrating it was that time.

  • Four hours to download a movie?  Seriously?

I just tried renting a movie on iTunes and received a message that it would be ready to play in four hours?  Seriously?????  That's never happened before.  I tried calling Apple Support, which was a waste of time.  So frustrated... I thought family movie night was supposed to be relaxing.  Now I just want to throw the Apple TV in the trash.

    Hello scottsaints123,
I would be concerned too if the download speed was dramatically slower than usual when trying to download a movie.  I recommend following these steps:
Try restarting your router / base station and Apple TV
Restart your base station or router. Sometimes this is done by turning the router off for a few seconds, and then on again, but check the documentation provided by the manufacturer.
To restart your Apple TV, press and hold Menu and Menu down/scroll for about 6 seconds and then chooseRestart from the menu.
If the issue continues after restarting, reset your router or base station and Apple TV to factory settings
Reset your base station or router. Use the documentation provided by the manufacturer to reset to factory settings.
To reset your Apple TV perform a factory restore.

Blinking orange will NEVER turn green. You'll have to UN mount it to see green.

Shuffle works with iTunes NOT WMP.

My phone is completely frozen and the update has not loaded for four hours. How do I fix the problem without losing all of my stuff?

You're saying you don't back up your phone regularly? You should ALWAYS back up before updating your phone. That said, try resetting first: hold down the home button and the power button for at least 10-20 seconds until you see the Apple. Hopefully you can then try to perform the update again. Start doing backups if your data is important to you.

  • How to fit 3 hours move into SL?

I have 725 Mg, a single MP4 file, 3 hours movie, that I would like to make a DVD from. The iDVD is showing over 5,5 GB, and it says that it can not make one. Is there a way to squeeze into 4,7GB SL disc? I don't care if the quality is lower.
    Thanks,

There are two ways of achieving that:
    1. Use dual-layer DVDs. These can accept up to 4 hours of video.
    2. Use Roxio Toast to burn the single-layer DVD using its 'compress-to-fit' feature. Expect quality loss.

  • Encoding Audio in iDVD for 41 hours. Is there any hope?

I know others have had the same problem. The Activity Monitor shows iDVD Not Responding, but still using 96% CPU. Has anyone ACTUALLY completed a DVD using iDVD 6.0.3 and OSX 10.4.8? My movie is 70 min. long with DV, photos, and iTunes music (one song from Apple Music Store).
Should I have hope and wait or Cancel and try another approach? Will creating a "Best Quality" Quicktime Movie and dragging it into iDVD give me the same quality result as my current iMovie to IDVD method?

What i cannot understand is that iDVD and iMovie were created so that you could add transitions, music (encouraged to be from your iTunes library), titles and voice overs, yet when i (and it appears many others) try to do exactly that, we are left waiting for 24 hours + for the audio to encode.
To me this is completely unacceptable. I would understand if i was using some software that didnt recomend you to use iTunes as a music source, or it wasnt designed to add a couple of songs along the timeline.
If iTunes suddenly stopped being able to play music files or transfer them to your iPod there would be an uproar. Thats what iTunes was designed for, to arrange your music, and transfer it to your iPod.
And thats what iMovie and iDVD were invented for. To edit videos, and add music from your itunes library to those videos and then create your own DVD.
Dont get me wrong, I apreciate all the posts offering workarounds and suggestions to finish off what should be a simple project, i just feel that a lot of people think that its 'us' to blame (the persons having the problem) and not the software which was desinged to do the very thing that it currently isnt doing.
Ive just spent £1000 on a new Macbook because i was sick to the back teeth of the problems i always exprienced on windows. Now i have a project sitting on my machine using up valuable space whilst i wait and hope that a fix will come out.
    Anyway, appologies for my rant
    regards

  • IDVD: Fitting a large AVI file on DVD

I have a large (2.5Gb) avi file that I want to burn on dvd using iDVD, and though I am using a dual-layer dvd, it is still not large enough to accommodate that video (I'm exceeding the capacity by about 500 Mb). Is there an option in iDVD to "fit" the video on the media you've got? I'm ok with (hopefully small) quality loss.

First off, the size of your AVI file in GB doesn't matter to iDVD. What DOES count is the running time in minutes.
On a double-layer DVD the maximum content length is about 120 minutes in iDVD.
iDVD doesn't offer an option to force fit the content to the media. I suggest you look at Roxio's Toast Titanium which does offer such an option. You might also want to look at the free BURN at http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/

  • Idvd fit audio to slideshow

When I import or create a slideshow with music in Idvd, I choose the fit audio to slideshow option. The timing of the specific slides with the music has been choreographed, especially the conclusion of both photos and music at the end.As an Iphoto slideshow,a Quicktime movie, etc...the product is perfect. However, once in idvd the sldies will continue past the conclusion of the music.Even deleting thumbnails does not solve the issue. This wasn't an issue until Leopard upgrade.Any thoughts?

I had a simialr issue today as well which you may wish to read about as to how I resolved (or worked around) this issue.
