EZ Mask in PS CS5--Yes or No?

Anybody with experience using EZ Mask? Good? Bad? or Redundant plugin?
Thanks.

Prefs deletion would pretty much preclude dialogs opening on the wrong monitor, no?
I might try getting an updated display driver from the web site of the maker of your video card.

  • Help with clipping mask in illustrator cs5

In Illustrator CS5, is there any way to get rid of the white space around the artwork when exporting a jpg? I currently use the mask tool, but when you export the jpg, it still shows the white space where the clipped objects are. Is there any clipping mask? Or any way to just make the jpg the size of the artboard, that way any of the objects that fall off the edge of the artboard woldn't be included?

Yes but if I use the artboard, when I export it to a jpg it still has the white space around the outside. Some of my clipped images fall outside the clipping mask so there is white space where the physical images are even though the mask technically covers them up. Thanks

  • Clipping masks in ai CS5 deletes strokes and other crazy things

When creating a clipping mask, Illustrator CS5 deletes the stroke on the mask itself and when I add the stroke back in, it adds the same stroke to objects within the clipping mask.
In the file below, Figure 1 shows a rectangle with a black stroke and an orange circle with no stroke. Figure 2 shows the result of creating a clipping mask - the black stroke on the rectangle has been deleted. Figure 3 shows the result of adding the black stroke to the mask - it adds the stroke to the orange circle as well.
This is one of the many things about Illustrator that lead me to believe that the people at Adobe have never tried to work with their own programs. Why on earth would I want the stroke to be eliminated in the first place and why would I want it to be added to the items inside the mask when I go to replace it?
Is there something I should do differently or is this yet another oversight I'll have to work around forever?

Thank you to Larry and Scott! That's exactly right. I wasn't aware that by making a clipping mask you also make a group (and I'm not entirely sure that it logically should) but using the direct selection tool does the trick.
    Thanks again,
    Dave

  • Quick mask problem in CS5

I am a newbie and I have come across a problem which I cannot seem to rectify, when trying to use the quick mask tool and select the paintbrush it does not work, i.e no mask is created, can anyone help

Adobe Acrobat doesn't have a  quick mask tool.

  • Using an AI Object as a Mask in AE CS5

I have a "brush stroke" object in an AI file that I want to use in AE.  My goal is to have the brush stroke animated so it looks like it is being painted on the screen.  I have created a shape layer in AE and then copied and pasted the object from AI into the layer.  My problem is getting the brush stroke to work as a mask for a red solid.  How can I make this work and then animate the red solid to fake the effect of a painted brush stroke?
    My Layers:
My "brush stroke" with red solid in the composition:

    Hey everyone,
I thought I should post my final results after using the track mattes to make a brush stroke effect.
Built your brush strokes in AI, seperating each stroke into its own layer (not sublayers).
Import the AI file into AE by the individual layers.
In AE, placed the different imported brush strokes into separate layers in a composition.
After that, created a shape layer below each brush stroke layer.  Example:
Placed an ellipsis on each shape layer to act as the color.  Pick whatever color you would like the final brush stroke to be.  These were placed just outside of the brush stroke so the color will not be visible on frame 1.
Then animate the position of the ellipsis to move along the brush stroke.  Example:
Once the path is correct, you will not apply 2 effects to the shape layer.  Effect 1: Echo.  Effect 2: Gaussian Blur.
Be sure to have the Echo effect is above the Blur effect in your layer/effect options.  You may get a really strange error on the blur if not.
Increase the number of echoes under the effect options.  This depends on how long you want the stroke to last in your animation.  If you want it to be permanent, just make the number 500 or so.  It will last a long time.
Change the echo operator to Maximum.
Change blurriness to 7 under the gaussian blur effect options.
Now to make the shape layer act as if it is painting the brush stroke.  Use Dave's instructions above to get the Track Matte Menu visible.
Select Alpha for the TrkMat on the shape layer.  Be sure the brush stroke layer is invisible.
Then test your animation.  It should look something like this:
    1.2.3.
I hope this helps someone out there trying to do the same thing I am!

  • How to make clipping mask with text and vector pattern?

Hey there guys, any help would be greatly appreciated. Im making a logo for a client and am having a nightmare of a time trying to properly use the clipping masks in illustrator CS5. I copied and pasted the  logo I made behind itself with a different color just for a drop shadow-like effect. And now I'm trying to apply this diagonal line pattern I created over top the "shadow" I made to give it some texture.
Here's an example of what I'm going for, only imagine the line pattern on the text instead of banner

    Eric,
As I (mis)understand it, you can either keep the Type live (or outline it) and:
    1) Create one copy of the pattern for each Type object (this will give you the opportunity of having different(ly coloured) patterns;
    2) For each Type object, select the type object and one of the patterns and Object>Clipping Path>Make;
    or you can:
    1) Select both Type objects and Type>Create Outlines, then Object>Compound Path>Make;
    2) Select the compound object and the pattern and Object>Clipping Path>Make.

  • Can I upgrade from Illustrator CS3 to Cs5?

    Hi,
I have an older version CS3 pack education version; I am using illustrator and photoshop; my question is, can I upgrade illustrator and photoshop CS3 to CS5 or CS5.5 directly and skip the version CS4 in the middle?  Thanks.

Educational versions are not eligible for ANY upgrade. (Read the license) So, no.
If you had the commercial version you could skip CS4 and jump straight to CS5, yes.
Realize Adobe no longer sells anything prior to CS6, upgrade or otherwise.

  • Is camera raw filter available with LR 3 or CS5?

Is camera raw filter available with LR 3 or CS5?

There has been a Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop for many versions by now.
There is a new Camera Raw filter in PS CC—something that allows you to use the camera raw plug-in as a smart filter for a layer.
The Develop panel in Lightroom has the same adjustments as the Camera Raw plug-in for PS.
So depending on what you mean by “Camera Raw Filter” the answer is either LR3-No, CS5-No for the filter in PS-CC, or LR3-Yes, CS5-Yes if you mean the CR functionality.

  • Upgrade many CS4 flas to CS5 XFLs using JSFL ?

    Hello,
This is my first post on these forums, even though I read many of them in the past. I work as a Flash developper for a e-learning company.
I'm using Adobe Flash Professional CS5 on a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard).
I've been happily using the XFL format for my work projects. I managed to save half of my 1000+ CS4 flas as CS5 xfls, and store them in my subversion source control system. Appart from some glitches documented elsewhere, I find it much easier to keep control of my various revisions now, as it fits nicely in my usual workflow.
With this amount of files to deal with, I'm a big fan of JSFL. I didn't find a way to open my document, and save it as ${filename}.xfl automatically.
Do you know any way to programmatically save a document as a XFL? I still have 500 files to go!
    Thank you very much!
    Stéphane Mor
=================== My current workflow, in case you're trying to do the same =====================
Right now, for testing purposes, I use a workflow along those lines (into a folder full of flas, and only flas):
    -----start
In JSFL, I open all CS4 flas in a dir and save them again in CS5 fla (check "don't ask again" when prompted)
Now all my CS4 files are CS5 fla files (meaning they are basically zipped XFLs).
    # Find all files named xxx.fla (my own custom predictible xxx pattern) and make a dir with the same name without the 'fla' extension
    find . -type f|cut -c1-14|sed -e 's/\.\///'|xargs mkdir {}
    # Extract the flas to the newly created dirs
    find . -type f |cut -c1-14|sed -e 's/\.\///'|xargs -I {} unzip {}.fla -d {}
    rm -f *.fla
    ------end
This kind of works, and fills most of my needs, but I can't rely on it totally because, being French, some of my library items or folders have accented characters in them, and they show up like this, for instance:
    soci+%AEt+%AE.xml instead of société.xml
If you avoid accented characters (and probably spaces and special characters also) in your library items and folders, it should work pretty well, though!
    Good luck!

  • Selecting color layer should select its mask

In older versions of Photoshop (at least until CS3), clicking on a solid color, gradient or pattern layer in the layer palette selected its mask. In CS5, it doesn't select the mask anymore.
This is inconsistent with the adjustment layer behavior, where the mask is automatically selected, and does not make sense since there is no "image" area that can be edited like normal layers.
It's a little thing but you can't believe how many time I got the "this layer must be rasterized" dialog box since moving to CS5.

OK. I see your point about the eyedropper. I guess I'll have to aim better.
The double border should appear around the Fill layer icon to indicate that it is selected. That would make it consistent with normal layers.
Personally, I would prefer if, when you click on the layer name in the Layers panel, the option that was previously selected for that layer would be selected again (layer color, layer mask or vector mask). If you want to change it, click on the appropriate icon.
On a related note, is there a way to add a vector mask without first adding a layer mask?

  • Refine Mask extremely slow

I've just upgraded from CS3 and the selling point for me was the new Refine Mask features in CS5.
Everything is working beautifully - except the Edge Detection brush in Refine Mask.
It's very, very slow - I just sit and wait until it completes the tiniest stroke of the brush.  I'm working with a 20 mb file, so it's not particularly large.
I'm using an iMac  OSX 10.6.3,  2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo,  3GB SDRAM,  ATY RadeonX1600 Graphics.
Would appreciate any assistance you can offer.
    Thanks,
    Catherine

  • Quick Mask Icon

I just found out about the "Quick Mask Tool" in CS5.  I didn't know about it since it didn't appear in the tool bar on the left hand side.  I can't seem to find it anywhere.  I know that the shortcut is "Q", but when using the tool bar icon, there are some other selections that can be made.  I know this only from a tutorial that I am watching.  The person giving the tutorial only references the quick mask icon, but not how to get it to appear in the tool bar.
    Please help

Just to make sure: You are using Photoshop, not Photoshop Elements?
Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?
