EzDrummer Compatibility / Sequencer Suggestions???
Howdi All,
Is anyone using ezdrummer in GB08? If so how hard is it to get it going (I've had bad midi experiences)
I'm also wondering? Do you have to use a midi driver - keyboard etc, or can you just go straight to step recording in the piano roll. ((does GB have a piano roll??))
Basically what I'm looking for is something like fruityloops but with much better drum samples. I love the DFH samples and would definately add the vintage expansion range, but a big part of me is hesitant in going down the midi/playing drums on keyboard road. I've been using a boss DR670 but programming a drum sequence takes a few years...almost. I want the ease of clicking out a pattern on a grid or piano roll without compromising on sound quality.
I guess I'm hoping I can do all this with EZdrummer and GB.
Any help or suggestions would be GREAT!
Cheers, JD
I'l answer my own question for those who may one day search this forum for the same reason:
- They are compatible
- GB has a piano roll and you can draw in data (apple - click)
- I ended up getting Logic Express 8. (drawing in the piano roll is easier)
- EDrummer samples are brilliant!
Cheers.

Compatibility questions re: OS X Server and new ATA serial HD
The good news: We just got a 500 GB ATA serial HD with some end of year money just as we were running out of space on our 250 GB drive.
The bad news: We have an Xserve G5 running OS X Server 10.3.7 and the hard drive says we need to be running OS X Server 10.4.7 or later.
I checked the Apple Store to see if they had any ATA drives compatible with our version of the OS X software but the only 500 GB serial ATA I found was no longer available. Looking at the 750 GB ATA I can't find any specs as to software compatibility.
Suggestions? I really don't want to spend $1000 to upgrade to OS X 10.4 right now.
Thanks in advance for the input.
Xserve G5, OS X Server 10.3.7 Mac OS X (10.3.7)Hi PrintTech-
I think the hardware will be fine. You may want to search this forum as I seem to remember this question coming up before and it turned out that all was well.
Assuming that this is an Apple-branded drive in an Apple sled hardware-wise you should be fine.

Multiple users using one iPhoto library on a server
I'm working in a design company and we have a huge folder stuffed with reference images on our server. Accessing it is ok using Adobe Bridge but I recently had an idea to create an iPhoto library on the server, this would allow people to quickly find relevant images and by keyword or album. I set it up and all worked fine until I tried opening the library up on a colleagues machine. turns out the folder is 'locked' and completely unaccessable if someone else had it open. Is there a way to make the library more flexible so that more than one person can use it at one time? Thanks
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. IPhoto is not designed to be used on a network server. iPhoto is not reliable on any drive that isn't formatted OS X Extended. If the library is located on an OS X Extended formatted external HD withownership set to be ignored and connected to a Mac it can be accessed and used by other Macs. Just create a guest account that others can use to get to the external HD.
If you want multi user compatibility I suggest you look at one of the DAM (digital asset management) applications that offer that - like Media Expression. Other possible DAM applications are described and discussed at The DAM Forum.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete. -
Please...any expert have advice on upgrading the Touchsmart TX2-1274nr model from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium using the HP upgrade kit?
I have had several HP help chats since I bought this touchsmart model, and I've only had it for a little over a week and a half. And, it seems the HPOP chat does not allow me to type my sentences out fully...always cuts me off and chops up my sentences. Plus, it seems the agents that "help me" never seem to understand ANYTHING I am asking. This is quite frustrating, irritating and perplexing.
I tried for the first time to upgrade yesterday, and I did not understand the compatibility report. First, it says to update the "KEYBOARD FILTER" prior to upgrade. I searched the computer and nothing comed up, so I have no idea WHAT EXACTLY this is so I can update the driver. Secondly, it recommends uninstalling 11 programs...6 of which are games (which is fine). However, it recommends uninstalling the ATI INSTALLER MANAGER and ATI CONTROL CENTER. This is another VERY CONFUSING and VAGUE recommendation. This is because only the ATI INSTALLER MANAGER is listed in Programs & Features list. When you try to uninstall, it becomes confusing as to does one remove ALL ATI COMPONENTS...and, if not, how do you removed just the CCC and the INSTALLER MANAGER. I managed to get the CCC uninstalled, by performing and "custom" uninstal of the ATI INSTALLER MANAGER in the Prgrams & Features list, but the INSTALLER MANAGER still remains on the computer.
These problems proved for me confusing. So, I go yet again to HP Help chat and the "tech" was NOT HELPFUL. A little sarcastic & vague and just kept saying follow the onscreen instructions. The instructions have me confused, which is why I was asking so WINDOWS 7 INSTALLED CORRECTLY.
So, I went to another forum and asked for help. I was advised that the Keyboard Filter most likely meant it was referencting the N-Trig DuoSense Digitizer, and I was provided the link to the manufacturer's site to download the Windows 7 compatible drivers. HOWEVER, I could not find out why the compatibility report kept telling me to update the "Keyboard Filter" prior to upgrading.
So, I ended up removing all on the compatibility report suggested removals prior to upgrading EXCEPT the KEYBOARD FILTER DRIVER UPDATE & the ATI INSTALLER MANAGER.
I performed the full UPGRADE anyway.
Sure enough, when all was said and done, after the "UPGRADE" it seemed my system was running noticably SLOWER THAN when it had Vista. Secondly, I LOST MY TOUCHSCREEN ability. So, I went back to the link the 3rd party forum person recommended for the N-Trip DuoSense Digitizer Windows 7 drivers...and the touchscreen function returned. However, I KEPT LOSING MY INTERNET CONNECTION. Well, my wifi apeared to show a full wireless connection to our home network, but I would open up internet explorer and it would load my home page. I was able to maybe retain my internet explorer connection for a miunute or 2, and then no matter what website I enetered or link I clicked...NOTHING. It would just keep indicating it was loading but minutes would pass and nothing would happen. Plus, the windows system in general seem to be running slower.
So, I am highly irritated & upset over this. And all my searching and researching on HP site and others seem to not giver SPECIFIC AND CLEAR ANSWERS to any of these issues. WHY????? Am I the only one to have ALL THESE ISSUES? This morning, I ended up performing a F11 Windows recovery back to Vista Home Premium. What should I do?
Please, if anyone has had similar problems, sound off. Moreover...PLEASE if you have updated your Touchsmart TX2-1274nr SUCCESSFULLY....PLEASE...PLEASE...ADVISE me as to how I may accomplish the same!
I thank any advice/suggestions any of you may have in advance. Kindly, Jimmyb30ohioI have the TX2 1012NR and its can upgrade just fine! Here is a few recommendations "only if u have the HP Upgrade program disks"
If you have them you can install a clean copy and delete everything... Do not use the use me first disk included because it prompts you to install an older BIOS.... Just use the windows 7 upgrade disk and start the process. The clean install clears your entire drive but does not void your warranty! When you use the use me first disk after the install it actually loads everything else needed to get you up in running. The touchscreen driver and the HP Mediasmart programs will have to be downloaded from the HP support site. Once again its recommended that if there were any programs installed delete them do not try to update them! This causes issues and countless errors. Specifically with touchscreen drivers etc uninstall them before installing the ones from HP support. I found this was not the easy way to do it but the best way... I also recommend that when doing any sort of BIOS update that you remove your Battery and leave it connected to a power cord only! Last but not least if you really mess up and its under warranty... Send it to HP they will set it back up to factory defaults under Windows Vista with the more up to date BIOS installed. I hope my information helps! Sure you might loose some programs but in the end your computer runs faster and smoother because all the programs installed are made for Windows 7.... Also they did release the Touch Pack for download from the Microsoft website here is a link telling more about the features and benefits and how to get it as it is a totally free download...

Hi Everyone
I am pleased to announce that based on the feedback we got from community members we have decided to reinstate the mobile version of the community. So you can now access the forums on the move again!
It is important to remember that the mobile version does not provide all the forums’ features and functionality, but it is a scaled- down mobile-optimised version. This will allow you to access the community and perform key tasks on the move, such as reading, creating and replying to posts.
See below for our Frequently Asked Questions about the mobile version of the community.
Thx
Kerry
Frequently Asked Questions for accessing the community on a mobile device:
How do I access the community on my mobile device?
You should use the same URL you use to access the main community – www.bt.com/community
What devices can I use to access the community?
You can use any mobile device to access the community, but the user experience is optimised on devices which use a WebKit browser, including AppleWebKit for iPhone and Android, S60 Webkit for Nokia, and IE Mobile for HTC. To optimise the mobile experience on Blackberry and other devices, Opera Mini can be downloaded, which will enhance the way the community looks on your device. Further details on device compatibility and suggested browsers is included at the end of this FAQ message.
What tasks can I complete on the mobile version?
The mobile version is intended to keep you up to date with the community when you are on the move. This means that key functionality is available, but you cannot perform all functions that are available on the main site. Key tasks you can complete are as follows:
Sign in/out of community
View boards, threads, and messages
Create new thread
Reply to existing threads
Mark messages as read/unread
Give ratings
Send and receive private messages
Search the community
Follow other members (add to friends); See who is following you
Change certain mobile settings:
Turn on/off private messages
Subscribe to topics I post to
Create a mobile specific signature
View your profile
View existing bookmarks
Link back to main bt.com site and Help site
Why can’t I do everything on the mobile version as I would on the desktop version?
The mobile version is intended for ‘on the move’, easy access to key functionality of the community. Access on a mobile device needs to be quick to load and easy to read on small screens, so we have removed some of the extra features and functionality you normally see on the main site in order to achieve this. For example, the modules you see on the right hand side of the main site such as ‘top rated posts’ are not available on the mobile version as there is not enough space on the screen.
How does it work? If I post on the mobile version will it update on the main site?
Yes – the mobile version links directly into the main community site so any posts, replies, and PMs that you send will automatically be updated on the main site.
Do you plan to add any more functionality to the mobile version in future?
There are no immediate plans to add any further functionality than what exists in the current version. However, we are always looking to make improvements to any services we offer so if you have specific feedback on additional functionality you would like to see on the mobile version, please send me a PM.
What should I do if I have any problems using the mobile version?
If you have any problems using the mobile version we would recommend posting your query in the Forum Guidance and Ideas board when you’re with your PC so other members can give support and advice. The moderator team can also respond here if needed.
How secure is my data?
User details are stored securely and encrypted in the community system. The mobile version of the community is subject to the same tests as the rest of the community site and was implemented using the same security best practices. Members are reminded that they can control what profile information is viewable by others via their user settings.
Device compatibility chart
This table shows which device and browser combinations are supported and provide the best mobile experience:
Device
Browser required
iPhone
Apple WebKit
Android
Apple WebKit
Nokia
S60 WebKit
HTC
IE Mobile
If you have other mobile device/browser combinations we suggest that you download Opera mini as your browser to get the best mobile experience of the forums.

Why isn't this working? -
Is it no longer available?
There is one thing and one thing only at all ever so much that makes me angry about apple...once they come out with something new, the past product becomes almost a ghost, as if we all can just get up and go out with 2000 dollars to buy a new computer.
What am I complaining about???
It's only been some short time since they released the new macs with the iSight cameras built in, but I can't find just a normal iSight anywhere on the website!!! It's almost as if they don't care. I tried alternative places but they are excessively expensive, as in 300-500 dollars for the camera. I was told Apple useed to sell them directly for about 150. Why can't I find this price anywhere? I am willing to pay that much, but not the prices I have been seeing. I need a webcam for my computer, and I would rather have the real thing than waste my money on some POS that may or may not work and will have far lower quality. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.Hello squirrellycue
Because External iSight is out of production, if you cannot find an iSight in existing stock at an Apple VAR or a used equipment store, you will have few alternatives other than to compete for the advertised or auction items.
Fortunately, there are available alternatives to using External iSight. Many third party cameras, both Firewire and USB, are compatible, as are many DV Camcorders.
To be compatible with iChat AV, USB cameras must use iChatUSBCam add-on software. If you want to consider USB cameras, check the iChatUSBCam "camera guide" page for compatibility,
Some suggested External iSight alternatives are shown in these recent threads (topics):
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=858272&tstart=0
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=855562&tstart=50
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=856141&tstart=0
Contrary to one of the posts in this last thread, a DV Camcorder with Firewire output is not restricted to "(6 pin to 6pin)" cabling. For example, my Sony DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70 (both now discontinued) require 4 pin cabling to my Mac's 6 pin Firewire port. Both cameras work very well with all my applications.
You should use a quality Firewire cable if you choose to use a DV Camcorder or other Firewire camera, but the pin count will be governed by the Firewire cable requirements for your camera and the port you are using on your Mac.
Cheers,

Photoshop CS5 crashes before opening
I've been running Photoshop CS5 since it was launched and largely without problem.
Today, I installed a trial version of PTGui and that ran OK, but later I found I couldn't open Photoshop.
I re-installed the system twice, but to no benefit. Any ideas, please ? Thanks.

I've trashed the latest plug-ins and no improvement.
After I'd installed the two latest plug-ins, I noticed that the Plug-ins that had previously worked OK had disappeared from the Filters list. It was whilst attempting to recover that, I changed the Photoshop Preferences Plug-in Folder to the Addobe Photoshop CS5 main folder. I restarted Photoshop and haven't seen it since.
I can't get back int to reet that and as well as re-installing from the original discs, I copied across a copy of the whole folder from a back-up drive and that didn't work either. CS3 is installed and that works OK.
Could the change in Plug-in directory be causing this and if o, is possible to change the Preference ?
Lightroom is now asking for Photoshop Camera Raw Plug-in version 6.5 for full compatability and suggests to update in the Photoshop Help Menu. This happens when trying to Edit in Photoshop from Lightroom. So this is a bad news.
I do have a week old copy f my software drive to fall back on if all else fails, but I don't know if a simple fix is possible before going back to that. Plus it may not work.
Thanks. -
Photosmart 7520 - Non-HP Cartridge Message
As of today, I have received 4,874 "Non-HP Cartridge(s)" messages from HP. I consider this out and out harassment rather than reminders to use HP cartridges in the printer. I am using Office Depot cartridges because the local Office Depot was out of HP 7520 cartridges when I needed them last September. I tried the hard reset sequence suggested in an earlier post, but it did not work (I've received 12 messages from HP as I drafted this!). If HP is trying to drive off customers, they are doing a fine job. And at this point, on general principles, I can't envision buying genuine HP catrridges for the printer, or buying any other HP product in the future. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make the messages stop (short of buying HP cartridges), please let me know.
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.

Any time I start itunes, use the Apple site or try to use QuickTime, I get a pop up stating "Some of your Quick Time software is out of date. You can fix this by updating to the latest version (then choices of: 'Cancel', 'Do it now')". If I select 'Do it now', I get a second pop up which says "Information received from the Quick Time Server is Invalid. Please try again later."
Itunes seems to work if I select "Cancel". The Apple site keeps giving me the same popups.
I have uninstalled, and reinstalled Itunes/Quicktime with no impact. I've uninstalled the Apple Updater. I've tried the "DO it now" both behind a firewall and on an 'open' home DSL line with the same next pop up.
Thanks for your help. Not of any help, but misery loves company. I am having the same problem with Windows XP that had some older versions of quicktime on it. I have attempted to all traces of the old software, but whenever I download and attempt to use the current Quicktime download I get an error code like yours where I am instructed that "Some of your quicktime software is out of date. You can fix this problem by updating to the latest version" The box in which the error message appears seems to be of the style seen with older windows programs like Win 98. Anyway, as long as the new Quicktime is installed but not working properly then I can not access the apple store. Also everytime the error code appears windows pops up with its own message stating that Quicktime has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I too found no boxes checked when I looked under compatability as suggested by one poster. I tool have found no viruses.
I have not tried the safe mode installation suggested by one poster.
Do you have any older games installed that used older versions of Quicktime? -
Iphoto 6 no support for Nikon D40 (NEF-Format/RAW)
Hello,
I want to use iphoto (Version 6.0.5) with NEF-files of my D40, but that files are not supported yet. I haven´t found a solution in the forum.
I don´t want to buy another program to be able to edit the nef-files. The functions of iphoto are still enough for me.
Can anybody help me.
With regards
Stefan
Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.8)For maximum compatibility I suggest you run the 10.4.9 COMBO updater, the Quicktime 7.1.6 updater and the iPhoto 6.0.6 updater. Also, if you haven't already done so, run the Digital Camera RAW Support Update 1.0.1. Follow it with a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Lookout 6.0.2 modbus rtu problem?
One of our customers has Lookout 6.0.2 communicating with several CMI Scada Packs over wireless modems using Modbus RTU protocol. Suddenly last Friday night he got comm fail alarm pages on all but one site. The Modbus statistics window revealed that Lookout had stopped polling all sites except the one site that stayed in communications. The only activity was the one site.
He watched it poll this way for 2 hours, never returning to the normal polling cycle.
I had him exit and re-launch Lookout and polling returned to normal and has been that way since late Friday night.
This system has been in service for several years with very near 100% good communications sice we deployed it, up until now.
It was obviously a Lookout failure, since the only action taken was to exit and re-launch Lookout.
Isn't there a watchdog timer for this sort of error?
Is this a failure of the Modbus cbx object? (We are using the plain vanilla Modbus driver)

Solved!
Go to Solution.Hey Mr Domer
If it's the one I think it is, I designed and built the RTU system and repeater system after the "Packaged" system became obsolete.
That was back when 1200 baud was fast! I guess it was compared to the 300 baud limit on the old stuff. Probably been re-built a couple of times since.
Thanks for the sequencer suggestion. I will have to think on this since we are pushing the limits for polling... Some ScadaPacks in this syatem have to do up to 25 modbus transactions per site... We have serious I/O in this sytem lots of which is in floats. Haven't tried DNP yet but I am getting pressure from some distributors to go Clear SCADA and use DNP to thin out redundant polling. Thing is this system has worked flawlessly for years and now suddenly we have this issue, so I am not ready to throw in the towel yet and I doubt the board would go for the moneys to implement it. We are adding another 8 pump site this October after the canals are off line but before they are drained for winter. This is so we can test the system before the frost protection season for the almond crop.
If NI can't fix this I will probably just insist that my clients reboot every week. I am fortunate that these are not unmanned districts. Only problem is that each of them are at least a 2 hour drive from any one point so I need to keep callbacks to a minimum which would be zero callbacks if it weren't for software screwups.
Best regards

Mac mini start up shut down code
I appreciate the two responses, from '300Tech' and TITOUMAX to my original question.
I was reluctant to take the "sudo halt" terminal suggestion since a warning loomed over the danger of losing data.
I was unable to post a copy of the code sequences suggested by TITOMAX since the problem was solved by the time I saw his post.
I received an answer from Apple.
I was able to halt display of start up and shut down code by shutting the Mac mini down and starting the machine while holding down "cmd option PR" keys until the computer gave the normal start sound followed by a repeat of the start sound. This procedure led to a normal start up process and also a normal shut down process without the display of the "start up code" during start up or the display of the "shut down code" during shut down.
By the way, holding down the "cmd option R" keys with my left hand while pressing the Mac mini start button with my right hand and quickly getting my right hand in place to hold the "P" key was tricky, but only took two tries to achieve success.
I was concerned that the display of those lines of code was an indicator of an impending problem. It turned out to be an unintended feature following replacement of the logic board.
By the way, Apple Care has been wortwhile for me.Thanks for the report, that's called a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

Business Rules security from EAS throwing error while adding locations
Hi,
Currently we are trying to provide security to the BR's from EAS. As a part of which, we are trying to add location to the BR's. When we expand the Planning node on Locations, it throws the error, "Cannot connect to the Planning server <server name>". When we expand the Essbase server, we do see the application and database, but after a long time, around 10 mins.
After a call with Oracle, we have restarted the services RMI, EAS and planning in the sequence suggested. Also checked the RMI service, its running fine as well. Below is the error from hbrclient.log
"2011-08-06 20:41:58, 076 Warn AWT-Eventqueue -0 com.hyperion.hbr.core.metadatamanagerserviceremote - cannot retrieve connected rppt element for planning/a01gidssapp2a"
Hbrserver.log doesnt have any error. We also have performed reconfiguration of Planning services, but still no help.
Appreciate if someone can help us resolve the issue, since we have to release the servers for Planning by tomorrow. Thanks in advance.I assume that you are using BR as calculation module.
1. Try creating a new test user say HBRADMIN,
2. Provide him the admin access to BR, Essbase and Planning App,
3. Log into Planning Application,
4. Check the HBR Plugin Data table in EAS schema/databse, see if there is any entries in that table,
5. Now, Log into EAS console,
6. Try creating a test BR,
7. Select outline,
8. Select Location,
9. Add access.
If there is no entry in the HBR Plugin table, try making a manual entry, below is an example:
HP11113 11333 App1 HP11113 admin AABPAAANAAEKAAEHAABPAADOAAAIAAFG 8/7/2011 1:05:16 PM
AABPAAANAAEKAAEHAABPAADOAAAIAAFG is an encrypted password for 'password'.
Cheers...!!! -
Is it possible to create a stack with photos taken at different times? I have photos of the same object taken on different occasions and would like them together for purposes of comparisons, just like is done in stacks. In other words; they are not in sequence.
Suggestion: put them in an Album. It's perfect for this sort of group-making. Flag all the Images you want to group, go to "Flagged", select all, "File➞New➞Album", name your Album, check "Add selected items to new Album", re-select all, un-flag them.
Alternatively, you could use a keyword and a Smart Album. Say, like Cézanne, you regularly go out and make a picture of a local landmark. Since you store your Images in Aperture, you could apply a keyword -- say, "Le Mont St. Victoire" -- to each of them. You create a Smart Album with Smart Settings that automatically filters your Library for all Images with the keyword "Le Mont St. Victoire". Whenever you import a new picture of your landmark you apply the keyword to it. Now every time you select that Smart Album, it automatically shows you all Images in your Library with that keyword. -
TS1717 iTunes not starting after power fail and reinstall
I'm using a Samsung NP700 series laptop, with a dodgy battery, running Windows 7.
I was doing some work when the power failed and my battery failed soon after. When power was restored the system ran CHDISK during boot up and found several problems. I then started getting Win32 exceptions from CFNetwork.dll during start up and whenever I tried to start iTunes.
I followed the advice in the support pages and ended up doing a complete clean and reinstall. After this the exception had gone but iTunes failed to start. I got nothing, double click the icon nothing, open iTunes from the start menu, nothing. No reports, no errors it just failed to do anything.
I had installed the 64 bit version but it wanted to install in 'program files (X86)'. Was this the problem?
In desperation I ran iTunes using 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' that suggested XP SP2 mode and it worked. iTunes complained about being in compatibility but it ran.
Switching off compatibility mode reverts back to iTunes not bothering to start.
Oddly enough iTunes remembers that I was using an external drive for my library, I had expected to have to set that up again after the clean uninstall.
Still I am working, iTunes is not happy but I am working. In the next few days I hope to upgrade to Windows 8 - only God knows what problems that will cause.Okay, things have gone from bad to worse. I checked the event log again after another failure to start and found that iTunes hadn't started because of an exception thrown by AUDIOSES.DLL. Sfc failed to fix it so I tried a restore to an earlier date.
That's when things went badly wrong. After the restore my system refused to boot. Even the recovery disk failed. Fortunately I was preparing to upgrade my system to Windows 8 and already had the upgrade disk.
One clean upgrade to Windows 8 later and my computer is working again. All I have to do is install all my software again. This is not a big problem as I like to do this every so often to clear out the junk. Haven't got around to iTunes yet (still doing BIOS, drivers and firewall etc first). Hopefully I will be all back to normal in a couple of days. Good job that I am retired.
