  • My computer froze so i restarted it, and now that its back on every document i'v worked on has popped up on my desktop and will not exit. what should i do?

my computer froze so i restarted it, and now thats its back on every document i've work on has popped up on the desk top and wont exit. what sould i do?
it is a macbook pro, OS X mountain lion 10.8.2, i can open new windows and exit them but not all the pop ups

Start from your recovery system. OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion includes a built in set of utilities in the Recovery System. Restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R), and keep holding them until the Apple icon appears, indicating that your Mac is starting up. After the Recovery System is finished starting up, you should see a desktop with a OS X menu bar and a "Mac OS X Utilities" application window. Note: If you see a login window or your own desktop and icons, it is possible that you didn't hold Command-R early enough. Restart and try again.
When your computer finishes starting up, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities window.
Click the First Aid tab. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    Select your OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.

  • Is 'InstallSecurityCentral_787.exe really a Mozilla file or a trojan or virus carrier. It has popped up twice while using Firefox stating I have viruses but Comodo does not agree!

A window purporting to be a 'Firefox security alert' has popped up twice when opening websites (not the same site each time) stating I have viruses performing a scan stating there are 98 viruses but listing only 9 and stating I should download a program called InstallSecurityCentral_787.exe from http:// swocmod. ce. ms.
I am suspicious that this is a ploy to get me to load a trojan or virus and would appreciate advice on the subject.
I have run a Comodo virus test on the file and it came up clean but as it is a link loader and not the actual program this is not surprising.
A Comodo scan on Sunday 05/06/2011 did not find the files listed by the alert?
    Regards astralcc
''Edited to disable the link - TonyE''

That is not from Mozilla, it will be malware, do not install it.
There are many sites that will present you with a fake security alert trying to get you to install software. The genuine Firefox security alert will just warn you about a malicious site, it will not perform a scan or warn you that you have viruses installed and will not tell you to download any software.

  • What is the dialog box marked com.apple.internetaccounts.xpc? It has popped up and I can't get rid of it. I have tried every password I can think of.

This dialog box keeps popping up on my iMac. If I select cancel, it comes back. I reset my keychain yesterday because I couldn't get in. I chose a new password but it won't accept that. I've tried every password I've ever had for different Settings and am still getting no where. Another box has popped up. This one is AddressBookSourceSync wants to use the "login" keychain. I feel like I'm in a remake of "Groundhog's Day."

Does the alert refer to "Local Items?"

  • Help: Monitor has "popped" out of the neck slightly, now crooked

    Hi all,
I recently shipped my iMac G4 17"inch with no problem in terms of functionality. The internal components are fine and new pixels were slain in transit. However, the neck must have had some serious stress on it, because the neck has detached slightly from the back of the flat panel display. It has "popped out" on one side, making it crooked, tilting to the right slightly. (In other words, the silver circle that connects the neck to the flat panel is raised on one side and is no longer flush to the monitor, making it uneven and tilting the monitor in front). I tried applying some pressure, laying it flat on the screen and forcing it back into place, but I had no luck at all. Any suggestions? Is there anyway to detach the two and put it back together?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Although there are manuals available explaining how to disconnect the neck from the dome (please email me with your processor speed if you want a link) I don't think it will get you very far. The neck does not extend in to the iMac's dome base hardly at all so you won't get any leverage. I'd simply suggest wedging one side of the dome up to make the display level and put it down to experience. ;-(

when downloading ios 5 to my itunes an error message saying "the network connection has timed out" keeps popping up. how do i fix this?

    Temporarily dip ****.
And excluding the extremely high network traffic due to the many millions of users downloading the update a day or two after is was released, this is a problem with that swiss cheese for security garbage OS that is Windows only, which is the joke. An update that is now running on 1 in 3 compatible iDevices which is in the 10's of milllions is vaporware Einstein?
If I were your rep, I would tell you to **** off. Go get Windoze mobile devices.

  • A message has popped  up in safari saying we have won a prize cant get rid of it

a message has popped  up in safari saying we have won a prize cant get rid of it

Try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Then when the iPad has restarted clear Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
You could also close Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

  • How do I remove ransom ware from my mac? Seems the PC instructions don't work...

My computer was attacked with this ransom ware with the Finnish police text, asking me to pay 100€. I find instructions on how to remove this lock from my computer only for PC users. Is there an equivalent for Mac users?

Good morning Tåbbe, from your description, I believe you are dealing with Browlock. Your lock screen should look very similar to this:  Browlock is in a sense simpler than other ransomware, as the "lock screen" is actually just a web page that uses tricks to make it difficult to close. Depending on your browser, forcefully closing your browser should already do the trick of removing this threat. If you are having troubles with that, the nice folks at support can help you out. This said, if the lockscreen above does not look like the one you are seeing, please post more pictures and we'll help you identify what you have. Regards,   Paolo

  • How to remove a java script pop up

    Hi,
I imported a robohelp document from another company and i am
catering it to my company's needs. The problem is they have popups
which refer to .bmp and it is in java script. If i highlight the
word which has the pop up and remove the popup and then highlight
the normal word again and refer it to my topic in the project
manger; it still refers to their image and not mine. It is strange
but true. I don't know how to remove the java script cos each time
i hover over the highlighted text there are 2 red squares on the
left and right hand side of the word highlighted which i want to
change from their image to mine.
Any help would be much appreciated .

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and AdwareMedic.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

    Hi
My ipad has a message saying a movie rental has expired and I cant remove it, so am unable to use it. Can anyone help?

Hi there, this problem has probably been resolved now, but I must say that I came across these posts today as I had the same problem, my old e mail kept popping up, but all sorted now!  Old Apps are not tied to the old Apple ID, honestly!
Rudegar is so right, all you do is go the SETTINGS/iTunes & App Store, then select `Apple ID` `Sign Out` then you get the chance to enter your new ID, and it worked a treat!
Good luck with anyone else with this problem, as I spent so long on this, really stupid!
PS you`ll need to again verify bank details

Its likely there but he pop up page isn't resizing properly.
Try a reset: Simulaneously hold down the On and Home buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it should appear. When shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on.
