F keys settings have suddenly changed in Vista!

Hi,
I have Vista installed on the computer. Used Leopard install DVD to copy all the drivers to work under Vista. At first there were no problems, I don't know what happened but when I press F11 or F12 for volume control the window expands or shrinks. The remote controller works as usual so I don't think there's something wrong with the driver. How do I reverse this? and use F11 and F12 as the volume control once again? Thank you~ have happy life!

Right clicking boot camp icon in start bar next to network & sound icons gives this help:
If the function keys don't work the way you expect By default in Windows, pressing function keys on portable Mac computers and newer Apple keyboards controls hardware features, such as volume and display brightness.
By holding down the Fn key as you press function keys, you can also use them to trigger application-specific software features. For example, if you open iTunes and press F1, iTunes Help opens.
You can switch the keyboard so that the function keys control application-specific features without pressing Fn. You then hold down Fn to use the function keys to control hardware features.
To set whether the function keys control hardware or software features
In Windows, click the Boot Camp system tray item and choose Boot Camp Control Panel.
Click the Keyboard tab.
Select or deselect "Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features."
Some Mac portable computers have a group of keys with small numbers on them that can be used as a numeric keypad. To use the numeric keypad, press the Num Lock (F6) key. The other letter keys are disabled and only the numeric keypad keys work. Press Num Lock again to return the keyboard to its normal functioning.

  • My 'save image as" settings have suddenly changed. where can i access them to change them back?

It used to be when I'd "save image as..." I could choose a folder and be given its contents in list form before saving. helped a lot in not duplicating names. Now when I save an image my save menu has suddenly changed to a completely horizontal format bar in whicj I choose one folder on the tree at a time and it gives me no choice as to format in which to save nor visual on the folders existing contents. How can I access settings for saving images?
    Thanks

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • TS3899 "cannot get mail" in iphone5 suddenly. been using iphone to check 2 email accounts for months now, one is gmail and not troubled. the other is thunderbird and i get this error message now. no settings have been changed or anything! ideas?

hey all, I have been getting the "cannot get mail" error message on my iphone5 suddenly.
ive been using iphone to check two email accounts for months now, one is gmail and not troubled. the other is mail from thunderbird and i get this error message now saying it is not responding. no settings have been changed or anything, it just suddenly stopped receiving mail on my device as of Tuesday afternoon.
Does anyone have iny ideas about why? i have yet to update to the new OS7 yet, could that be it?

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • All of a sudden, my settings have been changed, my homepage, and EVERYTHING. No matter how many times I go in and change them again, the SAME pages open up when I start FireFox and I am constantly being asked if I want Yahoo as my start page and default s

I don't know what happened. All of a sudden, my settings have been changed, my homepage, and EVERYTHING. No matter how many times I go in and change them again, the SAME pages open up when I start FireFox and I am constantly being asked if I want Yahoo as my start page and default search engine. I click the box 'do not ask me again' and it comes up EVERY TIME. I change things like I don't want history remembered, and when I reload FireFox again, it's back to the way it was BEFORE. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I don't know why this is happening, or how to fix it. What do I do??

I do not want to download another virus program.. I do not believe it is a virus. I am running the full version of Norton 360 and it is doing a daily scan. I have Windows 7, 64 bit OS.
This is very irritating !! If I wanted Yahoo I would ask for it !

  • Hi Support team, somehow my mozilla settings have been changed and it baceme transprenet, now how to change back to normal ?

Hi Support team, somehow my mozilla settings have been changed and it became transparent, now how to change back to normal because everything is transparent, menus, pages etc.

This could be the same problem other users are reporting as a white screen or black screen, caused by an incompatibility between Firefox 33 and some older graphics card/chipset drivers.
Please disable hardware acceleration as a temporary workaround. Step-by-step directions in this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025438
    Does that work?

  • "Network settings have be changed by another application" stuck in loops

I have the exact problem as others with Network System Preferences saying that the settings have been changed by another application. The message goes into a loop that can only be stopped with a Force Quit of the Preferences. I also have the Airport not connecting at start-up without choosing the Network Name from the Airport Pull down menu. I also think it may have started with the last Security upgrade and Java upgrade. I have used the airport utility to reconfig the base station. I discovered a system keychain with a password for the airport that my normal passwords would not open to show what it's password was. I have done many disk permissions and verifications. Any ideas? I would think if this is a Security update error, that Apple would be aware of it by now and post a repair. I have followed some threads on this issue but would rather wait for an Apple fix. There appears to be no way to contact Apple in customer support.

A Fix for "Your network preferences have been changed by another application" Error
In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the following:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    preferences.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
You will have to re-configure all your network settings since deleting these files will cause them to be returned to defaults.

  • Trashed plists to fix the problem 'Your network settings have been changed

What is the easiest way to get back the plists that I trashed when following advice on how to fix :Your network settings have been changed.

Drag them out of the trash and put them back to the place from which you dragged them to the trash. If you emptied the the trash they are basically gone (unless you want to go to the excessive step of file recovery with $100 software and a spare empty drive). By the way, they are automatically created again with default settings when you invoke features that need them so it's not like you have a hole in your computer file collection.

  • IPhone 4 MSG that settings have been changed (but not by me!)?!?

Twice I have awakened to a message on my iphone 4 that my settings have been changed. The first time this coincided with my Yahoo mail acct getting hacked, about 2wks ago. After that, I changed my Yahoo password and enabled Restrictions, but I got this MSG again today. Who or what is making changes, and how can I stop it? Thx!

I'm sorry, but I don't have that. Was waking up both times and msg disappears. "User settings" have been Reset is as close as i can get. No numerical code. Thank you.

  • Until yesterday I was getting mail through my gmail acount on Apple Mail.. Today I am unable to recieve any mail No settings have been changed, using valid password etc. Any thoughts?

Until yesterday I was getting mail through my gmail acount on Apple Mail. I am now not getting any email. No settings have been changed, using a valid password. Any thoughts?

I found the following advice at: http://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/230/Common+issues+with+Apple+Mail#gs/not-rec eiving-email
    Not receiving email
Once in a while, your Mail.app (sometimes referred to as "Apple Mail" or "Mac Mail"), stops receiving new mail. You may be able to verify that you are getting new mail via webmail, another email client or computer, or even via a mobile phone. When this happens, the fix is extraordinarily easy!
Here's how: From inside the Mail.app, click the Mailbox menu (see Figure 1):
Choose "take all accounts offline", and wait 10 seconds.
    Choose "take all accounts online".
Figure 1: Follow these steps to refresh your Mail application.
You should begin seeing your new mail flow into your inbox.
    It worked!

  • Mail has stopped working with msn on my iMac, iPad and iPhone. No settings have been changed.

Mail is no longer working with msn on my iMac, iPad and iPhone 6. No settings have been changed. I tried changing my password thinking I may have been hacked but it comes back saying wrong username and/or password. I have started the 2 way verification but nothing seems to work. Have I missed something?

  • Fixed "network settings have been changed" message but now can't network

As per suggestions, I deleted the files suggested, the message disappeared, and I reentered my network settings. But, now I can't connect to my laptop from my desktop. I can connect from my laptop to the desktop just fine, but when I try and connect in finder (and I tried connecting through network and through going to the laptop's ip address), it just spins for a while and then stops. Any notions?
The com.apple.nat.plist file didn't regenerate, but I put an old one in. Didn't seem to solve the problem.
    Thanks!

Ok, now I've gone and put back the original files in the hd/library/preferences/systemconfiguration folder. I've got the annoying "your network settings have been changed" message in my network window, but I still can't network to my laptop.
    Help?
FYI: The desktop is an old 2ghz x2 G5 running 10.4.11 and the laptop is a new MB unibody running 10.5.5

  • Privacy settings have not changed, but Firefox 18 is keeping me logged into facebook

I work for a FB game developer, and as a result I need to wipe cookies/cache in my browsers frequently. I have had Firefox set up to delete cookies when Firefox closes. This prevented me from staying logged into Facebook after closing Firefox. After upgrading to Firefox 18.0.2, I remain logged into my Facebook account even though I have not changed the cookie settings, nor have I selected the "keep me logged in" option on Facebook. Why has this behavior started and how do I make it stop if my settings haven't changed?

I set them both to 2, and it didn't make a difference.

  • Downloaded skype and now my settings have all changed!

Im a new mac user. i used to have firefox and some other apps on my computer plus ALOT of music. I downloaded skype and it was running fine, but today EVERYthing has changed. firefox is gone, my itunes library is gone and all my settings have changed. is there anyway to restore or undo what i did last night? im wondering if available memory had something todo with it?

Hi Chreesta and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I very much doubt that Skype itself is responsible, you didn't by any chance rename your 'Home' folder did you?
If so refer to the following:
