F keys stop working, can't quit, restart, control-option-escape doesn't wor
Weirdness. I tried to lower the volume on iTunes and the F key didn't work. Then I tried to change the brightness. Nothing. I then tried to restart using the menu choice under the Apple. Nada. Tried to quit using the menu, nothing. Tried control-option-escape. The window wouldn't come up. After doing this some more I'd get at least the square under the Apple to be highlighted after I asked it to either restart or quit but nothing would happen. I could quit apps but not start them. Their icons would bounce on the Dock but they wouldn't start up. Finally I hit the power button and it shut down. After restart, nothing was in the trash.
I had iTunes, Eudora and the latest Camino open when this happened.

All seems well now.
Why did I need to do this? Did the Geek Squad set things up incorrectly or was it my bringing some Library files over from an old backup? I exchanged or added some files in both my User and the root Library folders but only files I had a clue might be useful. Things like files from the Application support folder for apps I knew I wanted to set up with my old settings. I avoided replacing any file/folder that I thought might be better to leave alone. I don't remember all the files/folders I brought over but I could dig up some info if you'd like. I did let some apps be installed from their discs or downloaded new ones.

It's quite inexplicable, as I'm not able to access some system functions — I can't even open the force quit dialog to see if something has crashed. I can't open my Mac information (via "About this Mac"), but I can open System Preferences. Maybe all these functions share a common underlying process, I don't know.
I haven't found a way to fix this other than to hard restart the MacBook Pro by holding down the power button. I don't like doing that! I wish there was a workaround. Anyone have an idea?This entire thing is a hair over four months old, I don't think it should be acting up this much. Plus, this problem happens only once out of every 40 or 50 times I start this thing up. It's very infrequent, but it's there, and it just bothers me, I guess.
That said, I would try reinstalling, but I wouldn't be able to tell if it'd worked unless the problem never cropped up again in a long, long time. Sadly I also don't have access to my OSX discs at the moment (I'm out of the country). -
It really wasn't that much liquid but now I'm freaking out. I've always used clorox wipes and this has never happened to me. I'm going to leave it for a few days to dry just so I don't mess it up anymore. I'm debating putting it in rice. I just can't believe that small amount of liquid could ruin my macbook

The traces (copper connections) on the logic boards are pretty close together. It wouldn't take much to short two critical points out.
I hope putting it away for a few days (maybe in the warm sun) works for you. Because that is all I would have suggested. -
Brightness keys stopped working; won't restart or shut down
A couple days ago my brightness and volume keys stopped working. I thought restarting my computer (i also needed to restart it to install a software update) would fix this problem but then realized my Mac won't go to sleep, restart, or shut down. Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks for the help!

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
(If perchance you cant Find your Install Disk, at least do the Safe Boot part above). -
I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function, render workspace function, export file are still operational. How can I fix it so I may complete my assignment?
Besides DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite 6 is the only software on the machine. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Operating System on AMD FX 6100 six-Core Processor at 3.31gHz and 32 GB RAM memory. There are two SLI-bridged GTX680 NVidia cards.
The software was very stable for the last six months, working with 720P proxy files from 2.5K masters (Blackmagic Design Camera). I am working on a feature-length project that exceeds 1000 edits. I have broken the file into 2 one hour segments.
I have deactivated the software before reinstalling the entire OS from scratch. PP6 was very stable for 48 hours. Then the freezing space bar returns. After a dozen strokes into the project, same problem. I have made cache files store next to originals, I have deleted preview files if they were corrupted and causing instability. Am I missing something?
I have Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. I double checked the memory for damage/defect. Nothing says that the motherboard or other components are damaged.
I am in film competition overseas and need to have deliverables in less than a month's time. I lost the last two weeks troubleshooting and this crisis came at an inopportune moment of the project.

Upon launching Adobe Premiere Pro, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to launch TaskManager as well.
You will want to highlight Adobe QT32 Server.exe
Right click and select "End Process Tree"
You will get considerable stability in the program, long enough to get timing of cuts done. Be sure to save often.
If the program freezes, do not hit Save. You definitely want to avoid saving the corruption into your TimeLine
CTRL-ALT-DEL to relaunch the TaskManager and highlight Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
Right-click to "End Process"
No need to reboot the whole system; just launch Premiere Pro again and continue with the session. Note that your work reverted to Last Save.

This is a known problem with ADE (and it's been ongoing for a while, and I've never been able to track it down). Unfortunately the only workaround is to quite ADE and to restart.

Some keys stopped working for one user account
Dear all,
since a while (I can't say since when exactly) some of the keys stopped working: left control, left shift, and the tab key. In the beginning the caps lock didn't work as well, but it was my own setting. All other then the three listed work OK. As described in some KB articles I checked all settings for universal access, localisation, keyboard, mouse, and keyboard-shortcuts (all standard). I completely disassembled the keyboard (aprox. 50 screws!) cleaned it and checked the connections between the keys on the printed circuit. Everything looks good. Then my wife told me that she does not have the problem and indeed, in other user accounts it is all working OK. It means that it should be a setup problem in my profile. The keyboard viewer is showing every activated (pressed) key, but not the three that are not working - which is only consequent. When I disable the caps-lock then the keyboard viewer doesn't show this key being pressed either. My conclusion is that there must be a keyboard filter below the application level. Now I'm stuck.

Log back into your problem account.
Here's the whole litany for thoroughly checking your home folder. It's not as daunting as it looks.
1. Go to Users/yourname//Library/Fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
• Restart and test your applications.
• If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( Likely suspects are Times RO, Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.) If not, put your Fonts folder back.
2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
• Go to ~(YourHome/Library/Preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
• Restart and test your applications.
• If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
• Navigate to YourHome/Library.
• Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
• Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
• Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
• Click on "apply to all"
• If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
(Note:The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.)
4. Navigate to YourHome/Library/Caches and drag this folder to the trash, then log out and back or restart. There is no need to replace this folder.

Volumeicon volume keys stop working after adjusting volume via icon
When Volumeicon is first started, the volume keys work fine, (although it doesn't show the volume bar like it does when you scroll on the icon for some reason). When I adjust the volume by scrolling the mousewheel on the icon, the volume keys stop working and volume can only be adjusted via scrollwheel. Volumeicon must be restarted to restore volume key functionality.
Why is this happening? What's going on?Is this something that worked previously but then stopped working correctly?
What window manager / desktop environment are you using?
If you start volumeicon from the command line then use it are there any error messages?
Alternatively, does the volumeicon-gtk2 packagen in the AUR work better? -
Multicamera keyboard shortcut keys stopped working
PP 2014.0.1 release.
My keyboard shortcut keys (standard: 0,1,2) were working, but they stopped working mid-edit. Restarting the application did not fix this. Mouse works - but what a crappy way to select a camera.
Any suggestions?To answer my own question:
I discovered that the Multicamera track in the timeline must be targeted (enabled in the track header in the timeline) or the keyboard shortcuts to select a camera do not work. (I don't know how my track became untargeted, but it did.)
Although I understand how a keyboard shortcut will change the current clip in the multicamera sequence to the associated camera, the keyboard shortcut is strongly associated as input to the multicamera window, not the timeline. After all, I click on a camera view in the Multicamera program monitor to select that camera. I don't click in the timeline to do that. So It's not at all obvious that the multicamera track must be targeted for camera selection to work.
I find it confusing.
Do other users consider this a bug or good design? -
Windows 7 ESC key stopped working
I've got a fully patched Windows 7 Professional Desktop computer that I've been using for over 2 years. Yesterday my ESC key stopped working, which I first noticed when using Outlook and tried to close an open email window. I checked the keyboard
by moving it to another Windows 7 computer - works great. I also noticed that other keyboard shortcuts that utilize the ESC key still work, like for example pressing Ctrl / ESC brings up the Start menu. The problem is limited to functions that
operate off the ESC only - like closing an open email in Outlook or closing an open photograph on Facebook.
I downloaded a keyboard testing app that shows the key not working. But when I install this program on another computer and move the suspect keyboard - the program shows that it does in fact work.
I suspect something is wrong at a registry level - some entry has hijacked the key mapping. I've spent several hours on Google looking at various suggestions - all to no avail. I've tried updating drivers as a last resort - no change. Remember,
the ESC does work when used in a sequence involving multiple buttons. Any suggestions?I've encountered a similar situation regularly: my Esc key just quits working in mid session, and I always forget what the cause/fix is.
I have this same keyboard for over 8 years now, and it always works fine, so no, it's not a hardware issue - these issues typically never are. Rebooting the PC always solves the issue, but rebooting a dev workstation, with a gazillion apps open is a PITA.
Turns out in my case it's always Photoshop CS2 that 'kills' my Escape key; as soon as I close Photoshop, the Esc key functions normally again.
Another issue I get is the Ctrl/Shift/Alt keys sometimes quit working; again, a reboot always fixes the issue, but rebooting is always a last recourse. Usually I just mash the Caps Lock/Ctrl/Shift/Alt; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and I need

My "9-O-L-." keys stop working after startup and my arrow keys too.
Sometimes when I start up the keys will work for a bit then one by one stop functioning and then randomly work every so often, then it seems to "spread" to the right shift key, and sometimes the "8-I-K-," keys.
Around the same time when this all began my Battery completely stopped working too, does this have anything to do with it? I've reset my PRAM and no luck.
I'm planning on replacing the keyboard, will that fix the problem? or is it something deeper?

-AndrewI assume you've rebooted? Can you control the computer well enough to make a new account and log into it? Doubt this will fix it but maybe. The keyboard may need replacing but it might also be that the cable has worked loose so that some of the wires have disconnected but not all. Sounds like a trip or call to Apple is in order.

Anyway to create a domain file from the published site?
My friend and I both use iWeb. She created a site and her hard drive has since crashed. I am trying to see if there is a way to make a domain file from what's on the web without going through creating a page again. Any ideas?
