    Problem with Time Machine using Verbatim USB2TB (Verbatim # 96865) external hard drive in regular and safe boot. According to the Verbatim website, this external drive is compatiable with MAC OS 10+ and can be formatted to the specific Mac filesystems.
    The following list of events below happen irregardless of running in regular or safe boot, so I noted my last attempt at a backup while in Safe Boot.
    Before this last attempt, I successfully zeroed out the data on the drive in regular boot.
    As you will see below, the drive works just fine until Time Machine gets it grimy digits on it and kills it like South Park kills Kenny.

    Hi iTunes-1,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!  The error message you posted indicates a possible firmware update is needed for iTunes for Windows to work with your CD drive.
    iTunes for Windows: Updating the firmware on your CD or DVD drive - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201852
    Having outdated firmware can cause issues using CDs and DVDs with iTunes for Windows. Firmware is a type of software stored in a chip in hardware that can sometimes be updated.Identifying drives and firmware versions
    To run CD Diagnostics, follow the steps in this document.
    After following the steps to run CD Diagnostics linked above, look at section three to find out more about your optical drive(s).
    Here is an example of what section three might look like:
    In this example there are two drives. Drive E is a Samsung DVD-ROM drive with a model designation of SD-616 that has firmware version F000. Drive F is an NEC drive with a model designation of NR-7900A that has firmware version 1.08.Updating the firmware
    If the optical drive you are using came with your computer, check with the support site for your computer for a firmware update. Typically you will need to go to the support website for the computer maker and click on a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your computer model designation and operating system version to see what updates are available. Then look through the available updates for a firmware update for your optical drive. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of your computer.
    If the optical drive you are using came as a separate part (was not included with a computer), check the support site for the drive maker for a firmware update. Sometimes the manufacturer is not clear in the CD Diagnostics results. In that case, you may just have to search the Internet for the drive model designation. You can usually find out who made the drive by looking through the results of such a search. Once you have identified who made your drive, go to the support website for that company. Look for a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your optical drive model designation. Download the updater and run it. Also, you mentioned that you have been successful burning a CD with the Windows OS.  Make sure that you have closed all software programs that can access the CD burner so that there isn't a conflict for the drive.   Sometimes chaning the burn speed from "maximum" to 8x can also help in this situation.
    I hope this information helps ...

  • My iDVD does not want to encode when I try to burn 2-part movies or series where I put 2 parts onto the disc. I was told before to use only Verbatim DVD-R, which I now do. Still having trouble.

    I was on here 11 months ago with the same encoding problem, where it would get to the encoding part of the burning and would stop, then up would pop up the "Open Finder" box, the one where it says you have put in an empty disc and would you like to eject it, ect.? I was told by the people I was in discussion  with that I should change from cheap dvds to Verbatim DVD-R only and I have, and  switch from "Magic iDVD" to "Create a New Project" and follow the directions there. I did that and for a while, it worked quite well. Now it doesn't. Once in a while there will be a newer movie that it will work on, but only a single and only a newer one that I have just downloaded. I download a lot of series from TV and used to have no problem. Is there any way to fix the encoding problem? I really need help on this and would really appreciate anyone who could give me assistance. And while I'm asking, are there any free cleaning services? I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to buy a computer cleaning service. I have gone to Disk Utility and gone through that, but that's all I can do.

    Hi
    There can be so many things that lead to this. As You download - then my first thought is
    In What Video-Codec ?
    There is no standard only out there but zillions of Codecs
    iDVD and iMovie are very selective in what they can use - sometimes they try and it looks like they manage - till the final DVD is to be tested in a standard DVD-player and fails.
    A. Open Your Movie (to be used) with QuickTime-Player (can handle so many more Codecs)
    B. If it play OK here - then Open Inspector [cmd+I] and read:
    Video Formatted (Codec) as: nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
    Frames per second: YY.yy
    What does they say ?
    Else what I can think of is in this note:
    Trouble-shooting guide
    When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a Codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
    ( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories - do not work (usually)
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work&#8232;(usually)
    • Run a Cleaning-DVD (no liquid - but the kind with brushes) - from time to time - I do
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    - close iPhoto
    - on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
    - now select all five options presented
    - WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
    (I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
    I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
    Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • Using "One Step DVD from Movie" on my IMac 10.8.6 using Verbatim DVD-R ("Life Series") 4.7 GB 16X 120, I get a wide angle version of my two minute story rather than the 3X4 standard aspect ratio that I normally get and want.  Help!

    While using "One Step DVD from Movie"  using DVD-R Verbatim ("Life Series" 4.7  16 X  120 min) on my IMac 10.6.8 I get a wide angle aspect ratio on the DVD not the standard 3X4 aspect ratio.  The Quicktime Movie is is standard 3X4 aspect ratio and the video video footage is standard 3X4 aspect ratio?  Advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
    1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
    Click to view full size
    3 -  reboot.
    4 - launch IDVD and try again.
    Personally I would not the the one step method but create the iDVD project  from scratch so you can make sure the widescreen option is not selected in the preferences and you can follow this workflow:
    Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
    To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
    Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Macbook Pro no longer recognises my Verbatim 47519 640GB 3.5" USB2.0 External Hard Drive

    Hi,
    I have got a Verbatim 47519 640GB 3.5" USB2.0 External Hard Drive that I have partitioned since transferring from a PC to my Macbook Pro and have been successfully using the external hard drive since my purchase.
    In the last week, my Macbook Pro has suddenly stopped recognising the external hard drive and I cannot access anything.  There is nothing wrong with the hard drive as I have been able to plug this in to 2 Windows PC laptops and the drive works fine, I can access the Windows side of the drive with no problems whatsoever.
    I have also tried to Disk Utility and also the Preferences from the Apple logo and nothing.
    Has the recent update caused this to happen?
    Thanks in advance if anyone can help.....

    atappe02 wrote:
    but I suppose I could go to an Apple store and plug it in? Haha
    That will work.  Bring your MBP and external HDD to a genius bar and have them check it.
    atappe02 wrote:
    When you say enclosure, do you mean the actual casing of the HHD? I was warned against pulling anything apart!?
    Yes.  I do not know who or why you were warned but I have taken an installed many HDDs in enclosures.  It is not brain surgery and just requires a few tools.  Usually just a #00 Phillips driver is required.
    Ciao.

  • Verbatim disk drive historically used only for time machine backups. Recently i added some other media files to use some of available space without partitioning, the disc now refuses to mount in finder despite appearing in disk utility. Repair fails. HELP

    Sorry to elaborate a bit more.
    I have used time machine since owning my mac book pro with no issues. i keep the timemachine backups on an external hard drive made by Verbatim. This has not external power source.
    Recently i decided to use up some of the available space on the external verbatim disk drive to store some movie files which were sitting on my macbook pro.
    Therefore i created a new folder outside of the time machine backup folder and stored the movie files in there.
    From then on Time machine failed... and a few days later i noticed it was not mounting in 'finder'
    Therefore i used disk utility to see if it was recognising it. Which i was. However when i try to repair it the repair process fails.
    In disk utility i am presented with 1 TB Samsung HN M10 which has a child called Verbatim HD.
    The 1TB Samsung hardware appears fine, but the verbatim disk i am unable to fully verify and fix.
    Does this mean i have lost all my back ups?
    Have I lost all the media that i put on there?
    Is there any way to fix this?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    didier07...

    To summarize: You used an external Verbatim HD for your TM backups. Then, you stored some movie files on the "spare" space on the Verbatim drive. Now, Disk Utility isn't being recognized, and repair is disabled. Your home Samsung drive is working fine, but the Verbatim cannot be verified.
    The problem, I believe, is that the external Verbatim drive wasn't partitioned. There should be two partitions: one for TM backups, the other for video. That way, you can perform backups, and still retain some space for video or somesuch.
    Frankly, I don't know how to fix this except through the following. (1) Erase the Verbatim drive, (2) Create a new blank space and format it, (3) Make two partitions - one for backup, the other for video. (4) Run TM through one partition, but switch to the other for your videos.  The better solution might be to have one dedicated drive (perhaps the Verbatim) for backups, and another dedicated drive for video backups; that way, you'll have plenty of space for expansion.
    I hope someone will correct me if I'm incorrect, but I believe you've essentially lost your backups and media. I don't know how you can retrieve that clump of the now-undifferentiated data on the Verbatim drive. To retrieve any lost data, you're going to require another external drive that's larger in capacity, as well as data recovery software; don't expect encouraging results. If you're desperate, there are firms like Drive Savers that can offer a more comprehensive solution - at a cost.
    Post if you have questions, or additional concerns!

  • Alternative to f:verbatim to use custom DIV classes?

    I have some pages with panelCustomizable facets containing simple HTML like so:
    <f:verbatim>
    <div class="tableClass">
    <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
    <tr>
    <td colspan="2"><h2>TABLE TITLE</h2></td>
    </tr>
    </f:verbatim>
    At runtime, in "*Edit mode*", when I try to "*Add Content*" - the page hangs with a message about "stopping long-running script" which point to core11.1.1.3.js line 4569
    By some trial and elimination - i think this is due to usage of f:verbatim tag- so whats the alternative?
    I could use included HTML snippets stored off the file system (as shown in Avitek sample) but the data will eventually be dynamic and coming from data controls - to which i want to add some formatted text

    Yannick - you are so right.
    I once added some plain text in Design view which automatically got wrapped in <f:verbatim> and I assumed all plain HTML needed it.
    Now this leads me to new exceptions which I will try to fix

  • Why won't my Mac recognize Verbatim Dual Layer blank DVDs?

    Why won't my Mac recognize Verbatim Dual Layer blank DVDs?
    I've just completed a 140 minute project in FCP. I've encoded an MPEG2 file that is 5.75GB in size. Brought into DVDSP and am trying to burn the DVD.
    I have Final Cut Studio 1, latest updates and everything.
    Because of the 5.75GB size I need to burn to Dual Layer DVD. I have Verbatim 4x 8.56GB dual layer DVDs.
    When I click buld/burn and pop in a dual layer DVD I get an error saying "please insert compatible disc".
    Even with every app closed. If I put one of these DVDs in my Mac it simply spits it out after about 20 seconds.
    For some reason the Mac won't handle or understand these Dual Layer DVDs.
    I bought this Mac Pro about 4 months ago and it is the 2 x 2.66Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon machine and the DVD drive (according to system profiler) is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-111D. In system profiler it says "Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-111D"
    Can anyone tell me if this DVD player is actually capable of dual layer, or do I need to buy one.
    In System Profiler under Revision it says: AB09 and under Protocol it says: ATAPI
    Can anyone advise please?

    If you have access to a pc into which you can install the 112, or if you have bootcamp, you can replace the Apple supplied firmware with Pioneer firmware. This should restore full functionality to the drive. The latest Pioneer firmware for the drive is version 1.21 and can be found here: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=1426

  • What is the usage of f:verbatim/ tag?

    I have seen the API, which said "Create and register a child UIOutput component associated with the closest parent UIComponent custom action, which renders nested body content."
    but I still cannot understand what it means!!
    I search the web and many web site just use <f:verbatim/>
    </f:verbatim/> as a example, but is there any situation which need to use <f:verbatim/> tag?
    if there is any non-jsf code (html, jsp) produce some output inside jsf tag, then we need to use <f:verbatim/> to enclosed it, like
    , is it?

  • C:import and f:verbatim leads to invalid jspx?

    When I c:import a JSP page that contains

        </table>
      </h:form>
    </f:subview>it produces wrong HTML, the button is above the table and the <td> that should contain the button is empty. The spec says I have to escape with f:verbatim, so my page now looks like:
    <f:subview id="included">
      <h:form>
        <f:verbatim>
          <table>
         <tr>
           <td>A button label</td>

        </f:verbatim>
      </h:form>
    </f:subview>This produces the desired HTML but is ugly and invalid XML - so I can not use XML syntax of JSP (JSPX). Is there a better way to use subviews?
    Thanks,

    If you really want to embed all that HTML, you can do the following to make it valid XML:
    <f:subview id="included">
      <h:form>
        <f:verbatim>
          <![CDATA[
          <table>
          <tr>
          <td>A button label</td>
          <td>
          ]]>
        </f:verbatim>
        <h:commandButton value="Press Me"/>
        <f:verbatim>
          <![CDATA[
          </td>
          </tr>
          </table>
          ]]>
        </f:verbatim>
      </h:form>
    </f:subview>

  • How do I transfer files verbatim across a socket connection?

    So, I've got this socket connection running between two computers. I want one computer to take a file (C:\SourceFile.doc for example) and transfer it verbatim over an Internet connection to another computer (C:\DestFile.doc for example). By verbatim, I mean bit for bit, no changes to the format. It would seem that a filereader/filewriter system would work, and it does fine for .txt or plain files, but if I try to do something fancy, like a Microsoft word document (.doc) it doesn't work. Specifically, it saves a bunch of garbage at the begging and end of the file. How do I correct this?
    From my file transmitter:
    out.println("Prepare for Text File");
    FileReader localin = new FileReader(file);
    int l=0;
    while((l=localin.read())!=-1)
         //System.out.print((char)l);
         out.print((char)l);
    localin.close();
    out.println("End Of File");
    From my file reciever
    if(line.equals("Prepare for Text File"))
         System.out.println("ready for text");               if(fileChooser.showSaveDialog(RadioComReciever.this)==JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
    File localFile=fileChooser.getSelectedFile();
              FileWriter localout = new FileWriter(localFile);
              line=in.readLine();
              while(!line.equals("End Of File"))
                   for(int i=0;i<line.length();i++)
                   {                                                                 localout.write((byte)line.charAt(i));
                   localout.write('\n');
                   System.out.println();
                   line=in.readLine();
              localout.close();
    Thanks for any help!

    But my program is already accessing text from a
    socket connection. Is there a way to transfer things
    over sockets other than text?Yes. Everything that goes over a socket connection is bytes. Certainly you can transfer text, because it can be represented in bytes, but not all files are text. So just send the bytes as is.
    Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for you help, I just
    thought scokets mostly transfered just text. Am I
    wrong?I don't have any statistics on how much Internet traffic is text. But 100% of it is bytes. Just send the bytes as is.
    And is it just me, or is the documentation on File
    I/O provided by Sun somewhat lacking?It isn't the job of the documentation to explain basic Java concepts like the difference between byte and char. That's the job of the tutorials. Like the Java I/O tutorial.

  • JDev 11, Should we use f:verbatim tag in ADF faces pages?

    When you type something in a facet in a jspx page it automaticaly get into an f:verbatim tag.
    yet in the code it has a warning:
    Using f:verbatium tag can cause undesirable results when used with PPR navigation. For inlining styles or javascript, af:resource should be used instead.
    Also if you use call and return from a dialog page, the page is procken
    [http://adfbugs.blogspot.com/2009/08/returning-from-dialog-to-page-that-has.html]
    Is this a bug? or we should not use f:verbatim?

    You shouldn't be using f:verbatim to just display text on your page instead put the text into one of the output components - such as outputText or the formatted outputText.

                  <f:facet name="entry">

             </t:tree2>In this case it prints after the yellow-folder-open.png (or yellow-folder-closed.png) and before the first h:outputText. I want it to print before the yellow-folder-open.png. How do I get this html displayed in the correct place?

    jamesellis22: I'm not at the point that I could answer your question, however would you be able to help me?

  • Can't burn Verbatim Archival grade DVDs

    Hi there! I own a Powermac G5 Dual 2.0 Ghz with Tiger updated and a Pioneer dvd recorder Mod. DVR-110D Firmware ver. 1.37. I can't burn Verbatim Archival grade DVD-R because I always get the following error code: 0x8002006E. It happens with Finder burn and Toast 8 too! Is a solution there to fix this problem? Thanks for your help
    Greetings Fabry
    Powermac G5 2Ghz Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Hi Fabrizio!
    I am particularly interested in your problem because I was about to buy some of those very disks!
    In fact, I started this thread some time ago:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4140243&#4140243
    I have been googling the error code, and from a variety of Mac related forums it appears that, as Templeton suggests, it is an incompatibility between the burner and the media.
    Some have had the problem with Matshita, some with Pioneer superdrives. Some have had success with exchanging one superdrive for another, some with using different media.
    What is strange is that Verbatim DVD-R of the 'regular' kind are the preferred brand here. I have read that F Shippey, who I hope will chip in here if he sees this thread, has tried the Verbatim Archival grade DVDs.
    We need a bigger user sample!
    Have you tried burning them at only 2x or 4x in Toast?
    Do you have any problems burning 'normal' Verbatim DVDs?
