F10 - create video DVD from recorded TV programme

When I try to create a DVD from a recorded TV programme on my Qosmio F10 I get the following message-
"Media in the CD/DVD drive is not writable by Media Center"
I know that the media is writable by the Qosmio under normal windows but under Media Center it doesn't work on any format of DVD - data, video or DVD slide show.
Any ideas?
Tia,
Les

Hi
I found information that the driver upgrade can solve the problem.
Furthermore you can check this links. There useful und interesting news about Media Center.

  • Creating a DVD from camcorder video tape

    Hi all,

The easiest way (if you don't want to do any editing)
buy a dvd player/recorder, connect the video out of the camcorder to the dvd recorder input.

    Hi all,
I am tasked with creating a DVD from some of my dads camcorder tapes. Can anyone provide a simple advice list. I assume that iDVD (which i have never used) will be the software to use?

    Hello, Alan,
First, you need to determine if these tapes are digital or not. If they are not digital, you will need to convert them into a digital media format that your version of iMovie can accept. (For example, iMovie 6 can accept only DV footage).
Does your dad have the camcorder that he used to record the tapes? If his tapes are not digital, you can connect his camcorder to a digital camcorder and record each tape to digital miniDV tape. I think it is easier to use iMovie 6 for your movie-making, especially if you are thinking about editing this footage, cropping out bad parts, adding titles, effects and/or audio clips. That is why I am recommending recording to miniDV tapes.
Having the original footage on miniDV digital tapes is also a good way to store the originals, takes up very little space.
If his tapes are some other format, post back for info regarding how to proceed,
What version of iMovie do you have? I am assuming that you have iMovie08 since you are posting in iDVD08. As stated, I recommend that you do this project in iMovie 6. If you don't have it on your computer, you can download it here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
And, I recommend viewing this tutorial: http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/tutorial/
Once you have the footage on the miniDV tapes, you can connect your digital camcorder to your computer's Firewire port, open a new iMovie project and import the footage. You should limit each iMovie to about an hour and a half, if possible. A single-layer DVD can hold about 2 hours of content maximum. It doesn't matter what the size of the iMovie is in GB, only its length matters for iDVD.
After you import the footage you want, you can edit the clips and place them on iMovie's timeline in the order you wish. You can choose to add titles, transitions, effects and audio. iMovie has one video and two audio tracks so you can easily see what you are doing. If you want to have different chapters(scenes), you mark them in iMovie. Another advantage of iMovie 6 over iMovie 8 is that you can put chapter markers where you want them, not just at specified intervals.
After your movie is finished, close iMovie.
Open iDVD, create a new project in which to place your movie.
You should do this tutorial before you begin to work in iDVD:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#idvd-create-63
Once you get your first iDVD project ready to burn, do a 'save as disk image' and then burn the actual DVD from the disk image using Disk Utility. You will need to use a good brand of DVD-R disks, such as Verbatim or Maxell. Memorex has been problematic for many, and don't use a cheap store brand. Select a slow burn speed, 4x or less.
    That's a brief summary.....
Post back if you need further information! Good luck with your task!

You could've backed up your iPad prior to the "forced" upgrade which, by the way, you could have cancelled. iTunes doesn't upgrade your iPad, automatically, on its own. You had to click the Upgrade button to initiate the upgrade. You didn't have to do anything with that button. You can just leave it be.
iOS 8 is garbage on iPad 2 and 3 and even though iTunes keeps giving me the Update button option, I continually choose to ignore it.
Ignoring the Upgrade/Update button doesn't affect the normal iTunes/iDevice syncing/backing up operations.
You could've just left that button alone.
When was the last time you backed up your iPad?
While there is no way way to revert to a previous iOS version once you upgrade your iDevices iOS, iTunes saves multiple backups of your iDevice and if you backed up your iPad previously to this latest activity, you should be able to restore your iPad from an older  backup that should appear by date when  you plug your iDevice into your Mac, was for iTunes to launch and sync your iPad, then cancel the backup in progress and use the Restore function in iTunes to restore your iDevice from another previous backup version date.
If your current version of iTunes doesn't recognize your iPad2 under iOS 8, you need to check the iTunes update feature, in iTunes or in OS X Software Update feature in OS X Preferences panel to see if there is a iTunes update available for OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

  • Create a dvd from past project and event moved to external hard drive

i have version 7.04 DVD. Moved several projects and events to external hard drive. How do I go to "existing dvd projects" and create a dvd from a completed past dvd project? do i have to move the project and event back to the iMac hard drive..thanks

A iDVD project contain links to the various elements you have used to make the project. Unless you have actually saved the project as an iDVD Project Archive (an option under FILE in iDVD) which can be a very large file because it actually contains all the elements used in the project with adjusted links, simply moving a project (and/or elements used in the project) breaks all the necessary links. Sometimes you can reestablish the links (iDVD usually gives you a chance to try), but it can't always be done.
    Good luck.

How do I create a DVD from an iMovie '08 Project? I followed the directions in the help section but when I open iDVD, my project is "grayed out" and I cannot open it in iDVD.

In general, in imovie Share to Media Browser or Share to iTunes.
Then open iDVD. Open the Media Browser in iDVD (at bottom right of window). Navigate to your movies and you should see the movie you made. Drag it in to the iDVD project.

  • How do I create a DVD from my iPad2 recorded videos

I have recorded several of my kid's basketball games this summer. I have had parents ask if I can make a dvd of those games to share with the other families. My PC (runnings Windows Vista) does have a DVD burner. I have been able to sync my pics through ITunes, but never videos. Also, can I burn a dvd of my videos from ITunes? I've spent the last several days searching on "how to" but haven't found anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to the DVD burner you'll also need software that is capable of authoring DVDs.
I'm not a Windows person, but I believe Vista comes with an app called Windows DVD Maker.
You might have more success finding people knowledable with it use at Microsofts support site.

That one can be solved by encoding to vob as opposed to mpg. I do still get the time stamp warning, but I read that they can be ignored. The problem I'm having now is this one:

  • How do I create a DVD from iMovie when iDVD is no longer included in iLife (Lion).

I've been doing video editing for many years on PC using the Pinacle software. I have for years wanted to switch to a Mac that is known to be far better for this purpose than PC. A few days ago I bought an IMAC 27 inch, 3.1 MHz and was impressed with the Imovie program until I was going to burn the project onto a DVD as I had read about and explained in all Apple stores I've visited.
I realize to my great surprise that in the Lion version is no longer possible to burn a DVD using IDVD as mentioned in the help menu and in the Appel documentation online. I have tried with various other applications as well with no success. It is completely incomprehensible that Appel actually has removed this option from Ilife (IDVD) and I feel cheated.
I have now spoken with three different people from the support and none of them can give me a good explanation of how to burn an Imovie project onto DVD with this new operating system (which actually is a basic need). All documentation I find on internet and in the help section refers to iDVD, which is not included in Lion, and it does not even appear that I can buy the program separately. The new operating system is marketed as an improvement and this I find misleading advertising when such a basic need as creating a DVD is no longer possible (or extremely complicated). I do not experience that I have received the product I have been informed about in several stores and on Apple's website and considering of course to raise the entire purchase.
Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD? I want to create both a DVD frontpage and chapters as I have been doing on my pc for years.

Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD?
You can't.  You MUST buy iDVD.
Tell Apple how you feel.  They do read these comments, and often react.  Be nice.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
(On the above link, you will notice under Mac apps they do indeed show, iDVD!)
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $29. You WILL get iDVD.
or if you like downloads, go to the Apple Store via the Store button at the top, (not the App Store) and look for iLife 11 it will list iWeb and iDVD.  It IS available online.

  • How to create a dvd from iMovie '11

I have created a video in iMovie and am trying to transfer it to a DVD.  However, there is no Export function.  When I share the movie to a file it uses a .mp4 format which is then not able to be be burned to a disc.  In the past, the extension was .mov and I was able to create a DVD without any problems.

    You need iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • How to create a dvd from iPhoto11

I've created a book using iPhoto 11 (v9.5) and want to create of the book using idvd 7.1.2.  The share menu in iphoto no longer has the option to export to idvd.  Any assistance would be appreciated. I'm using Mavericks
    Thanks

    Here's the Export button:
You can't make a slideshow of the book pages unless you follow the workflow I posted above.  Here's a revised version of it:
First go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
Next go into the book and start a print process:
1 - go to the View All Pages mode in the book.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered and 200 for slideshows, etc.).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto.
6 - immediately rename the images in order with the Batch Change ➙ Title to Text  ➙ Page with Append checked. This will let you keep the pages in order by naming them Page -01, Page - 02, etc.  This will let your get them in the right order by a simple sort by title  as their original titles are really weird and can't be sorted into their original order by any method.
6 - select the images of the book and create a slideshow in iPhoto in the slideshow MODE.  You can set the theme and transition and add music to it if so desired.  This demo page has such a book converted to an iWeb slideshow. It will give you an idea what the page images will look like: iPhoto Book as an iWeb Slideshow
7 - export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size =480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to create a DVD from several FCP projects?

I'm strugeling to create a DVD. I feel like a fool because it used to go so easy with my old computer but with my new Mac it doesn't seem to work.....
    What I'm doing:
    - Footage MTS 1920x1080, 24Mbps .MOD files
    - I upload them from my camera into FCP
    - I make projects (let say 20 different ones)
    - I want to put all the projects on 1 DVD as seperate 'chapters/ icons'
    - With FCP I can only put one project at the time on a DVD, so that doesn't work
    - I bought DVD creater to put the exports of FCP on a DVD, problem I can not create a export out of FCP that will be recognised by dvd creater.
I know that I will be able to convert my FCP export into something else by some programme. But this is a work around, I don't really want to do such a extra step because the quality will be lower.
Ik hope someone has a solution for me!
    Kim

    Hello T,
I have just exported the slideshow from iPhoto to the iPhoto Slideshow Folder, opening iDVD.
I selected create a new project as EJ3 in MoMs folder hit CREATE and iDVD quit, disappears,
THE iDVD icon is still active on the doc but how ever it is simply GONE,
this is the second time i tried this. I will restart the computer and come back and try it again.
OK. I restarted the Mac, opened iDVD, selected MAGIC iDVD and in the movie section EJ3 was no where to be found.
I will now close iDVD and try create a new project, saved MY GREAT DVD to the desktop.
Cannot find EJ3 or the other exported iPHOTO slide shows under Elizabeth.....
    they are here
but I can't select, or import, or open in iDVD.
I am totally lost and thinking that this can't be done for some unknown reason.
I am thinking if iMOVIE is the way to go OR if I should delete iDVD and reinstall it from the iLIFE disk.
I am sorry for all this failure.
    at a loss right now.

  • How do I create a DVD from iMovie with menus? What iDVD use to do!

iDVD has disappeared on my new MacBook Pro, so how do I create a DVD with menus and everything?

    Hi
You can not do that - without any DVD authoring software as iDVD.
    So either
    • Treat to return Your new Mac (within 14 days) if Apple doesn't give You iDVD
    • Buy a second handed iLife'09 (pref as You then get all Themes - not so in iLife'11 - AND - after program-up-date they will be the same version anyway)
    • Buy another DVD-authoring software as Roxio Toast™ (costs a bit - contanin lot's of other things too - that was of great value to me (not so to everyone)
    • Use the free (and very simple/basic) BURN™ - as You at least can get Your Movie onto a Playable DVD
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • Trying to create new DVD from selected portions of existing DVD

I have a DVD I created of my son singing from a video we copied into the Mac several months ago. I can't find the file on the MAC and I'm not sure it would help with my objective if i found it. The video tape has been taped over.
I want to capture selected portions of the old DVD onto a new DVD.
Using a camcorder and a different tape, I learned tha I-movie lets me capture clips directly from the camcorder.
How do I create clips from the old DVD and import them into iMovie like the camcorder allowed me to do. Once I create the clips, is it difficult to create a new DVD from the clips. This is a new process to me. It may be an easy step I'm missing, but missing that step is a show stopper. Can someone help. -- thanks

    Hi
Tapeing over an old tape - has it's major disadvantages. You'll never get that
same good quality again. The DVD disc has a very much lower quality than the original
    what ever way You choose.
Easy: Connect Your Camera to a set-top DVD player and copy to a new tape.
    Best quality I've got.
More elaborate (read pricey) use a video-bridge (some Cameras can do this)
Lazy and not that expencive: Buy Roxio Toast™ and let it convert back to streamingDV
that iMovie can handle. Probably about the same quality as copy to tape.
And don't put a mini DVD disc into Your Mac. You need a trayloaded DVD to do this.
