F4480 printer not printing, Mac thinks it is

I hooked this printer up to two different macs (OS 10.6 and 10.8) and tried to print a one-sided page with color thumbnails and text. Tried from a Mac app, also as a PDF. Nothing is happening at the printer, but one of the Macs think the job has been processed and completed (repeated several times). The older mac hasn't been able to send the page to completion (signal hangs).
Log files on 10.8 mac indicate that the computer has completed the job.
Printer isn't making a noise, nothing coming out, no signals or blinking. I konw it can do something, because I just switched out the black ink cartridge and got a test page. Also it scanned the test page, but isn't able to copy.
Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas? Did this thing just die?

Hi @LeeRob ,
Let's try a different approach. Please complete the following steps and let me know the outcome of your efforts;
Reset Printing System
Unplug the USB cable from the computer
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and plug the USB cable back in.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Note: You might also consider trying a different USB cable.
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

  • My wireless hp 5660 envy printer prints from my iPad but not my mac book pro

I can print from my ipad but not from my mac book pro, when I try to print from my Mac Book Pro the page just comes out blank...

    Hello @leafgirl ,
    Welcome to the HP forum.
I understand you can't print from your Mac book pro. I would like to help.
Since your iPad can print I think it is a software issue.
Go into system preferences and remove the printer.
I would also uninstall the HP software if any is present.
You should then verify and repair the disk permissions.
    Then do an Apple update.
    Reboot your Mac book pro.
    Then install the HP software.

  • I would like to add my Deskjet F4480 printer to my home wireless network. How can this done?

I have a Linksys wireless router that is the hub of my home wireless network.  I have been successful in adding a HP OfficeJet 6500 All-in-one Printer an old HP DeskJet 890C that I purchased in 1997 with a computer running Windows 95.  The HP 890C has been my tireless workhorse throughout my two kids K-12 school as well as printing reams of paper during my MBA...and guess what: it still works.  However, my daughter has just returned home from college and she has a HP DeskJet F4480 printer/scanner that she would like to add it to the home network.  I have been researching the problem, but haven't been successful in finding out if this printer is compatible to add to a wireless network.  Or simply, will a 802.11g Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter suffice?  I am also adding a new Windows 7 laptop in the network, that will need to print to this F4480.  I patiently await the forum's response.

My mistake, it seems that price was a deciding factor when I purchased the F4480 in lieu of a more expensive wireless ready printer-scanner.  I will eventually come-up with a solution as I did with the 890C where I have a wireless print server connected directly to the printer serial connection.  It seems that backward compatible is still evident, but I am having some problems coming up with the long-lasting HP49 and HP23 tri-color ink packs.
Here is the rub; I don't replace technology because it is out-dated. I upgrade and or repair everything myself. I found warranties not worth the paper their written on and in most cases, the technical support was lacking.  My Win95 desktop went thru several major components until I found that it was becoming harder to find software to run with it.  I finally replaced it in 2007.  Now it seems that there has been a paradigm shift toward utilities that are very hungry for memory, and even if I didn't want to, I am forced to come over to the dark side with a device that has a minimum of 8GB of RAM.

  • HP DJ4645 scanner does not see Mac OS 10 Maverick and computer does not see scanner

HP DJ4645 scanner does not see Mac OS 10 Maverick and computer does not see scanner.
I installed drivers and software from the HP website. Printer works fine but scaner does not work over WiFi. I did not try over USB because printer and computer are not in same room.

    Hi @mamedina ,
I see that you are not able to scan over the wireless network. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Deskjet 4645)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
I have provided a document to make sure the Scan to Computer is enabled. You will have to select 10.8, then Network Connection. A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet 4610 ...
If you are still not able to scan, then I would connect the printer to the computer by a USB cable to see if it is a network issue or  the scan port might be blocked on the router. Unfortunately the printer isn't accessible in the same room, but this will rule out a software issue or a network issue. You can contact the router company to check and open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router for scanning.
Please let me know the outcome.
    Have a nice day!

  • Why can I open attachments (pptx and PDF) on iPhone but not on Mac?

Why can I open attachments (pptx and PDF) on iPhone but not on my MacAir (OS X 10.9.2)? Generally, I can open PDFs on my Mac, but in this case, I opened on iPhone, and not on computer! Also pptx file from one sender opened on iPhone, and not on Mac, and the same pptx sent from another person wouldn't open on either! Help!

Hi there.  I think as far as PowerPoint files go (pptx) you will need a copy of Office or some other compatible software (e.g. Keynote) to open it on your Mac.  On an iPhone there is a viewer built in just so you can take a look at most common attachment types.  If you have a copy of Microsoft Office on your Mac you should be able to open the pptx files in PowerPoint.
OS X definitely has a PDF viewer, it's called Preview.  I think you can also load Adobe Acrobat if you want but I've stayed away from it for years as I find Preview faster and better.
If you still can't open a PDF file attached to an email message on your MacAir by double clicking on it, could you let us know what error message you get, or what happens?  That will help people to help you.

  • Mac thinks alt/option key is always held down

This problem has happened twice on this iMac in the last two weeks. The first time it didn't disappear until I reinstalled Yosemite fresh. Now it has randomly done it again. Here is the full deal.
iMac 27" late 2009, 12 gb of RAM, Wacom Intuos 3 tablet, external OWC Mercury Elite Pro FW800 2 TB drive, Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2, Apple Wireless Keyboard (came with iMac), Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500. The Mac goes along fine, then suddenly all type input from the keyboard is scrambled looking. However, the reason becomes clear when the Keyboard Viewer is opened: the Mac thinks the alt/option key is pressed. If the keyboard is powered off, taken away from the Mac, and linked up to an iPad Air 2, it works perfectly, so it isn't the keyboard.
I am at my wits end. After years without a Mac (but with an iPhone and an iPad), I expected not to run into this kind of PC-style inexplicable nuttiness. Maybe someone here can explain this phenomena and tell me whatbI am doing wrong.

  • Can manually subscribe with Windows but not with Mac

For some reason I am able to manually subscribe to the below feed just fine with iTunes on my PC (Windows XP) but I get an error when trying with my iMac (OS X 10.5.8):
The error I'm getting with my iMac references "An unknown error occured (400)"
I was troubleshooting a different feed and am getting similar results: it works fine with the PC, but not with the iMac:
The error I'm getting on this feed however states "The file might be corrupted, or a file type that iTunes cannot play"
Can anyone think of why these feeds work with Windows but not with Mac? Any advice is appreciated!

The problem lies with the URLs for your media files. The one for the top episode is
    http://www.metalspeak.com/episodes/MetalsPeak 10 - GenresPeak.mp3
This URL contains spaces, which are not allowed in a URL. Browsers - and from what you say iTunes in Windows - handles this by substituting the code %20 for each space when requesting the file; iTunes for Mac does not.
You need either to change the filename for each media file, removing the spaces or substituting something such as an underscore, and then amending the feed accordingly: or at the least to amend the feed by replacing each space with %20.
It's the same problem in the other feed.

  • Why is my library available in windows but not in MAC

Why am I not able to share my ipod library from my Windows formatted computer to my Mac? My library shows up in my Gateway system but not in Mac. where's my music?

I would also like to know why Verizon does not carry WPXJ 51 (ION Television) from Batavia for all WNY customers?  All other cable and satelite providers carry the channel.  The only explanation I can think of is that for some strange, bizarre reason Verizon thinks that WPXJ is local to Batavia and is OUTSIDE the Buffalo and WNY viewing area. However, this is absolutely FALSE because it does not require anymore than a standard digital over the air antenna to bring WPXJ in and receive channels 51.1, 51.2, 51.3, 51.4, 51.5, 51.6 in crystal clear HD picture and sound.  Though, I would still greatly like to be able to watch ION Television (WPXJ 51.1) on Verizon FiOS though.
C'mon Verizon, get real and wise up- Batavia is NOT outside the local WNY viewing area and should be covered inside WNY.  Are there any other more closer ION afiliates for Buffalo? No, because anyone with an OTA can get WPXJ from Batavia.
ION says it should be carried on channel 21, and hopefully then 521 for HD. So, Verizon- WHERE IS THE CHANNEL? There is currently NOTHING on these channels. ION says we should find their channel here, but we don't.  Do we need to get ION to contact you about it or will you just get smart and add it on your own soon?
Now would be the best time to get ION for their original holiday movies. Please add it very soon. Thank you!

  • United Airlines does not support MAC?

Please advise on this one, being that United only supports PC's?
Thank you for choosing United Airlines.
In the past we have been advised that our website is not compatible with Mac. Please contact United.com support at 1-800-589-5582 for additional information.

Mainly why would United say they do not support MAC? It is just a question.
It's a question nobody here would know, as we don't work them and can't speak for them. The site works fine, so there's no need in beating a dead horse. Log on, book your flights, and think nothing more.

  • RE1000 - Does not filter MAC ADDRESS

I bought this to extend the range of my new Linksys 3200, thinking that they would be compatible. Silly me! After spending 3 plus hours screwing around with this, I got online and happened to stumble on a post from another user, that stated that this device DOES NOT FILTER MAC ADDRESSES! So, if you want to use mac filtering you can't use this! Ridiculous! Some basic instructions to inform users of this fact would be helpful. But it comes with no manual or instructions whatsoever. Save your money.

I have a E2500 router, I was adding the Extender because of the size of the office.  I set my router up to "Permit only" Mac IDs', right there I should have questioned why nothing worked.  The Package & the base of the unit both had a matching MAC ID - to bad that the unit had a different one.  I don't remember how much time I spent but finally disable the MAC ID Filter on the router and got the real one.  From that point on, everything worked, I even was able to setup with the router internal security switch.  Just think how a little thing like an ID would make an IT Guy just a little more mis-trustful, not count the grey hair.

  • When I sync iTunes between my iPhone 4 and my PC, does it also download my iPhone browser history to my PC? My PC is not a Mac and doesn't have Safari. Thanks!

When I sync iTunes between my iPhone 4 and my PC, does it also download my iPhone browser history to my PC? My PC is not a Mac and doesn't have Safari. Thanks!

I'm not sure but I think as browser history is just a series of URL links they would work with any browser. I found this info
    Symptoms
When syncing iPhone or iPod touch bookmarks between Safari and Internet Explorer in Microsoft Windows, the Favorites bar in Internet Explorer 7 and 8 may not refresh to reflect changes or updates to the bookmarks.
For example, if you sync Safari bookmarks to your device and then make changes to the bookmarks on the device (such as deleting some bookmarks, editing the web address, re-arranging the order of the bookmarks), when you then sync those bookmarks to Internet Explorer, the changes will not be reflected in the Favorites bar for Internet Explorer.
    Resolution
To refresh the Favorites bar, quit and reopen Internet Explorer.
Seems to indicate they work with internet Explorer

  • Nano 5th Generation - Recognized on Mac, not on Mac iTunes

The 5th Generation iPod Nano that I have been using for a couple of years now is not being recognized by the iTunes on my new MacBook Pro. It IS recognized by the computer and it shows up in the Finder, but it never shows up as a device on iTunes.
However, I don't think it's a problem with the actual iPod because it still connects to the iTunes on my desktop PC that I used before getting my MacBook.
Any ideas why it would connect to the PC computer, the PC iTunes, the Mac computer, but NOT the Mac iTunes??? Both my Mac and my PC have the latest versions of iTunes, I believe.
Also, I'd like to try to fix this without having to restore the iPod and wipe it clean... unless someone knows a way I can somehow save all my music and all the playlists I have created?

    Hello lgallagher,
I would be concerned too if my iPod nano was not recognized by iTunes on my MacBook Pro.  I recommend reviewing this article for steps to take when your iPod is not recognized in iTunes:
